Las divisiones militares de David
27 Esta es la lista de los israelitas que eran jefes de familia, comandantes de 1000 y de 100 hombres y oficiales que estaban al servicio del rey en los asuntos relacionados con las divisiones militares. Cada división tenía 24 000 hombres y prestaban servicio al rey en turnos mensuales durante todo el año:
2 Yasobeán hijo de Zabdiel estaba encargado de la primera división de 24 000 hombres durante el primer mes. 3 Él era descendiente de Fares y era comandante en jefe de todos los oficiales del ejército que hacían su turno el primer mes.
4 Doday descendiente de Ajoj era el encargado de la división de 24 000 hombres que prestaba servicio durante el segundo mes. Miclot era el comandante en jefe de esta división.

10 Heles el pelonita, descendiente de Efraín, era el comandante de la división de 24 000 hombres que hacía su turno el séptimo mes.
11 Sibecay de Jusá, descendiente de Zera, era el comandante de la división de 24 000 hombres que hacía su turno el octavo mes.
12 Abiezer el de Anatot, descendiente de Benjamín, era el comandante de la división de 24 000 hombres que hacía su turno el noveno mes.
13 Maray de Netofa, descendiente de Zera era el comandante de la división de 24 000 hombres que hacía su turno el décimo mes.
14 Benaías de Piratón, descendiente de Efraín, era el comandante de la división de 24 000 hombres que hacía su turno el undécimo mes.
15 Jelday de Netofa, descendiente de Otoniel, era el comandante de la división de 24 000 hombres que hacía su turno el duodécimo mes.
16 Esta es la lista de los jefes de las tribus de Israel:
Eliezer hijo de Zicrí era el jefe de la tribu de Rubén;
Sefatías hijo de Macá, de la de Simeón;
17 Jasabías hijo de Quemuel, de la de Leví;
Sadoc, de la de Aarón;
18 Eliú hermano de David, de la de Judá;
Omrí hijo de Micael, de la de Isacar;
19 Ismaías hijo de Abdías, de la de Zabulón;
Jerimot hijo de Azriel, de la de Neftalí;
20 Oseas hijo de Azazías, de la de Efraín;
Joel hijo de Pedaías, de la media tribu de Manasés;
21 Idó hijo de Zacarías, de la otra media tribu de Manasés en Galaad;
Jasiel, hijo de Abner, de la de Benjamín.
22 Azarel hijo de Jeroán, de la de Dan.
Todos ellos eran los jefes de las tribus de Israel.
23 David no censó a los menores de 20 años porque el SEÑOR había prometido que el pueblo de Israel sería tan numeroso como las estrellas del cielo. 24 Joab hijo de Sarvia había empezado el censo pero no pudo terminarlo porque Israel recibió un castigo de Dios a causa de este censo y por eso ese dato no aparece en Las crónicas del rey David.
Administradores del rey
25 Azmávet hijo de Adiel era el tesorero del rey.
Jonatán hijo de Uzías estaba a cargo de los depósitos del campo, de los pueblos, de las ciudades y de las fortalezas.
26 Ezrí hijo de Quelub estaba encargado de los campesinos que cultivaban la tierra.
27 Simí, de la familia de Ramat, estaba encargado de los viñedos. Zabdí, de la familia de Sefán, estaba a cargo del almacenaje del vino en las bodegas.
28 Baal Janán, de la familia de Guéder, estaba a cargo de los olivos y de los bosques de higueras silvestres de la región de la Sefelá. Joás estaba encargado de la producción de aceite de oliva.
29 Sitray de Sarón estaba encargado del ganado que pastaba en Sarón, y Safat hijo de Adlay era el encargado del ganado que pastaba en los valles.
30 Obil el ismaelita estaba a cargo de los camellos. Jehedías el de Meronot estaba a cargo de las burras.
31 Jaziz el agareno estaba encargado de los rebaños de ovejas.
Todos ellos eran los administradores de los bienes del rey David.
32 Jonatán, tío de David, trabajaba como uno de los principales asesores del rey. Jonatán era un hombre muy inteligente, sabio y con mucha educación y conocimiento. Jehiel hijo de Jacmoní era responsable del cuidado de los hijos del rey.
33 Ajitofel era otro asesor del rey. Husay el arquita era hombre de confianza del rey. 34 Después de Ajitofel seguían en rango Abiatar y Joyadá hijo de Benaías. Joab era el comandante en jefe del ejército del rey.

27 Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
2 Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
3 Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.
4 And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.
5 The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
6 This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son.
7 The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
8 The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
9 The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
10 The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
11 The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
12 The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
13 The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
14 The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
15 The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
16 Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah:
17 Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of the Aaronites, Zadok:
18 Of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:
19 Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel:
20 Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah:
21 Of the half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner:
22 Of Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel.
23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.
24 Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
25 And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:
26 And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:
27 And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite:
28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:
29 And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:
30 Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite:
31 And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.
32 Also Jonathan David's uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons:
33 And Ahithophel was the king's counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king's companion:
34 And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king's army was Joab.

Army Commanders.[a] 1 This is the list of the Israelite family heads, commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and other officers who served the king in all that pertained to the divisions, of twenty-four thousand men each, that came and went month by month throughout the year.
2 Over the first division for the first month was Ishbaal, son of Zabdiel, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men; 3 a descendant of Perez, he was chief over all the commanders of the army for the first month. 4 Over the division of the second month was Eleazar, son of Dodo, from Ahoh, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men.(A) 5 (B)The third army commander, for the third month, was Benaiah, son of Jehoiada the chief priest, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 6 This Benaiah was a warrior among the Thirty and over the Thirty. His son Ammizabad was over his division. 7 Fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel, brother of Joab, and after him his son Zebadiah, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men.(C) 8 Fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth, a descendant of Zerah, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 9 Sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira, son of Ikkesh, from Tekoa, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 10 Seventh, for the seventh month, was Hellez, from Beth-pelet, of the Ephraimites, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 11 Eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a descendant of Zerah, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men.(D) 12 Ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer from Anathoth, of Benjamin, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 13 Tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai from Netophah, a descendant of Zerah, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 14 Eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the Ephraimites, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men. 15 Twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, of the family of Othniel, and in his division were twenty-four thousand men.
Tribal Leaders. 16 Over the tribes of Israel, for the Reubenites the leader was Eliezer, son of Zichri; for the Simeonites, Shephatiah, son of Maacah; 17 for Levi, Hashabiah, son of Kemuel; for Aaron, Zadok; 18 for Judah, Eliab,(E) one of David’s brothers; for Issachar, Omri, son of Michael; 19 for Zebulun, Ishmaiah, son of Obadiah; for Naphtali, Jeremoth, son of Azriel; 20 for the Ephraimites, Hoshea, son of Azaziah; for the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel, son of Pedaiah; 21 for the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo, son of Zechariah; for Benjamin, Jaasiel, son of Abner; 22 for Dan, Azarel, son of Jeroham. These were the commanders of the tribes of Israel.
23 David did not count those who were twenty years of age or younger, for the Lord had promised to multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens.(F) 24 Joab, son of Zeruiah, began to take the census, but he did not complete it, for because of it wrath fell upon Israel. Therefore the number was not recorded in the book of chronicles of King David.(G)
Overseers. 25 Over the treasuries of the king was Azmaveth,(H) the son of Adiel. Over the treasuries in the country, the cities, the villages, and the towers was Jonathan, son of Uzziah. 26 Over the farm workers who tilled the soil was Ezri, son of Chelub. 27 Over the vineyards was Shimei from Ramah, and over their produce for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite. 28 Over the olive trees and sycamores of the Shephelah was Baalhanan the Gederite, and over the stores of oil was Joash. 29 Over the cattle that grazed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite, and over the cattle in the valleys was Shaphat, the son of Adlai; 30 over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite; 31 and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite. All these were the overseers of King David’s possessions.
David’s Court. 32 Jonathan, David’s uncle and a man of intelligence, was counselor and scribe; he and Jehiel, the son of Hachmoni, attended the king’s sons. 33 Ahithophel was also the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.(I) 34 After Ahithophel[b] came Jehoiada, the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. The commander of the king’s army was Joab.

The schematic enumeration of the soldiers presented here appears artificial and exaggerated (12 x 24,000 = 288,000 men!). However, the Hebrew word (’eleph) translated “thousand” might also designate a military unit of much smaller size.

25 And Azmaveth the son of Adiel was over the king’s treasuries; and Jehonathan the son of Uzziah was over the storehouses in the field, in the cities, in the villages, and in the fortresses. 26 Ezri the son of Chelub was over those who did the work of the field for tilling the ground. 27 And Shimei the Ramathite was over the vineyards, and Zabdi the Shiphmite was over the produce of the vineyards for the supply of wine. 28 Baal-Hanan the Gederite was over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the lowlands, and Joash was over the store of oil. 29 And Shitrai the Sharonite was over the herds that fed in Sharon, and Shaphat the son of Adlai was over the herds that were in the valleys. 30 Obil the Ishmaelite was over the camels, Jehdeiah the Meronothite was over the donkeys, 31 and Jaziz the (P)Hagrite was over the flocks. All these were the officials over King David’s property.
32 Also Jehonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a wise man, and a [d]scribe; and Jehiel the [e]son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons. 33 (Q)Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and (R)Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion. 34 After Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, then (S)Abiathar. And the general of the king’s army was (T)Joab.
