19 后来，亚扪人的王拿辖死了，他的儿子接续他作王。 2 大卫说：“我要恩待拿辖的儿子哈嫩，因为他的父亲曾恩待我。”于是大卫差派使者去为了他丧父的事安慰他。大卫的臣仆到了亚扪人境内，去见哈嫩要安慰他。 3 但亚扪人的众领袖对哈嫩说：“大卫差派这些慰问的人到你这里来，你以为他是尊敬你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你，不是为了窥探、倾覆、侦察这地吗？” 4 于是，哈嫩拿住大卫的臣仆，剃去他们的胡须，又把他们的衣服，从臀部以下割去半截，然后才放他们走。 5 有人去把这些人遭遇的事告诉大卫，他就派人去迎接他们；因为他们非常羞耻，王就说：“你们可以住在耶利哥，等到你们的胡须长长了才回来。”

6 亚扪人看见自己与大卫结了仇恨，哈嫩和亚扪人就派人用三万公斤银子，从米所波大米、亚兰玛迦和琐巴去雇战车和马兵。 7 他们雇了三万二千辆战车，以及玛迦王和他的军队；他们都来在米底巴前面安营。亚扪人也从他们的各城聚集起来，出来作战。 8 大卫听见了，就差派约押和全体勇士出去。 9 亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；前来助阵的列王，也在田野摆阵。

10 约押看见自己前后受敌，就从以色列所有的精兵中，挑选一部分出来，使他们摆阵去迎战亚兰人， 11 他把其余的人交在他兄弟亚比筛手下，使他们摆阵去迎战亚扪人。 12 约押对亚比筛说：“如果亚兰人比我强，你就来帮助我；如果亚扪人比你强，我就去帮助你。 13 你当刚强；为了我们的人民和我们 神的众城镇，我们要刚强；愿耶和华成全他看为美的行事。”

14 于是约押和他的军队前进，预备作战攻打亚兰人；亚兰人却在约押面前逃跑了。 15 亚扪人看见亚兰人逃跑，他们也在约押的兄弟亚比筛面前逃跑，退回城里。约押就回耶路撒冷去了。
16 亚兰人看见自己在以色列人面前被打败，就差派使者去把大河那边的亚兰人调过来，有哈大底谢的元帅朔法率领他们。 17 大卫得到报告，就招聚以色列众人，渡过约旦河，来到亚兰人那里，向他们摆阵。大卫摆好阵迎战亚兰人，亚兰人就与他交战。 18 亚兰人在以色列人面前逃跑；大卫杀了亚兰人七千辆战车上的军兵和四万步兵。又杀了亚兰人的元帅朔法。 19 哈大底谢的臣仆看见自己在以色列人面前被打败了，就与大卫议和，臣服了他；于是亚兰人不敢再帮助亚扪人。

19 नाहाश अम्मोनी लोगों का राजा था। नाहाश मरा, और उसका पुत्र नया राजा बना। 2 तब दाऊद ने कहा, “नाहाश मेरे प्रति दयालु था, इसलिए मैं नाहाश के पुत्र हानून के प्रति दायालु रहूँगा।” अतः दाऊद ने अपने दूतों को उसके पिता की मृत्यु पर सांत्वना देने भेजे। दाऊद के दूत हानून को सांन्तवा देने अम्मोन देश को गए।
3 किन्तु अम्मोनी प्रमुखों ने हानून से कहा, “मूर्ख मत बनो। दाऊद ने सच्चे भाव से तुम्हें सांत्वना देने के लिये या तुम्हारे मृत पिता को सम्मान देने के लिये नहीं भेजा है! नहीं, दाऊद ने अपने सेवकों को तुम्हारी और तुम्हारे देश की जासूसी करने को भेजा है। दाऊद वस्तुतः तुम्हारे देश को नष्ट करना चाहता है!” 4 इसलिये हानून ने दाऊद के सेवकों को बन्दी बनाया और उनकी दाढ़ी मुड़ावा दी[a] हानून ने कमर तक उनके वस्त्रों की छोर को कटवा दिया। तब उसने उन्हें विदा कर दिया।
5 दाऊद के व्यक्ति इतने लज्जित हुए कि वे घर को नहीं जा सकते थे। कुछ लोग दाऊद के पास गए और बताया कि उसके व्यक्तियों के साथ कैसा बर्ताव हुआ। इसलिये राजा दाऊद ने अपने लोगों के पास यह सूचना भेजा: “तुम लोग यरीहो नगर में तब तक रहो जब तक फिर दाढ़ी न उग आए। तब तुम घर वापस आ सकते हो।”
6 अम्मोनी लोगों ने देखा कि उन्होंने अपने आपको दाऊद का घृणित शत्रु बना दिया है। तब हानून और अम्मोनी लोगों ने पचहत्तर हजार पौंड चाँदी, रथ और सारथियों को मेसोपोटामियाँ से खरीदने में लगाया। उन्होंने अराम में अरम्माका और सोबा नगरों से भी रथ और सारथी प्राप्त किये। 7 अम्मोनी लोगों ने बत्तीस हजार रथ खरीदे। उन्होंने माका के राजा को और उसकी सेना को भी आने और सहायता करने के लिये भुगतान किया। माका का राजा और उसके लोग आए और उन्होंने मेदबा नगर के पास अपना डेरा डाला। अम्मोनी लोग स्वयं अपने नगरों से बाहर आए और युद्ध के लिये तैयार हो गये।
8 दाऊद ने सुना कि अम्मोनी लोग युद्ध के लिये तैयार हो रहे हैं। इसलिये उसने योआब और इस्राएल की पूरी सेना को अम्मोनी लोगों से युद्ध करने के लिये भेजा। 9 अम्मोनी लोग बाहर निकले तथा युद्ध के लिये तैयार हो गए। वे नगर द्वार के पास थे। जो राजा सहायता के लिये आए थे, वे स्वयं खुले मैदान में खड़े थे।
10 योआब ने देखा कि उसके विरुद्ध लड़ने वाली सेना के दो मोर्चे थे। एक मोर्चा उसके सामने था और दूसरा उसके पीछे था। इसलिये योआब ने इस्राएल के कुछ सर्वोत्तम योद्धाओं को चुना। उसने उन्हें अराम की सेना से लड़ने के लिये भेजा। 11 योआब ने इस्राएल की शेष सेना को अबीशै के सेनापतित्व में रखा। अबीशै योआब का भाई था। वे सैनिक अम्मोनी सेना के विरुद्ध लड़ने गये। 12 योआब ने अबिशै से कहा, “यदि अरामी सेना मेरे लिये अत्याधिक शक्तिशाली पड़े तो तुम्हें मेरी सहायता करनी होगी। किन्तु यदि अम्मोनी सेना तुम्हारे लिये अत्याधिक शक्तिशाली प्रामाणित होगी तो मैं तुम्हारी सहायता करूँगा। 13 हम अपने लोगों तथा अपने परमेश्वर के नगरों के लिये युद्ध करते समय वीर और दृढ़ बनें। यहोवा वह करे जिसे वह उचित मानता है।”
14 योआब और उसके साथ की सेना ने अराम की सेना पर आक्रमण किया। अराम की सेना योआब और उसकी सेना के सामने से भाग खड़ी हुई। 15 अम्मोनी सेना ने देखा कि अराम की सेना भाग रही है अतः वे भी भाग खड़े हुए। वे अबीशै और उसकी सेना के सामने से भाग खड़े हुए। अम्मोनी अपने नगरों को चले गये और योआब यरूशलेम को लौट गया।
16 अराम के प्रमुखों ने देखा कि इस्राएल ने उन्हें पराजित कर दिया। इसलिये उन्होंने परात नदी के पूर्व रहने वाले अरामी लोगों से सहायता के लिये दूत भेजे। शोपक हदरेजेर की अराम की सेना का सेनापति था। शोपक ने उन अन्य अरामी सैनिकों का भी संचालन किया।
17 दाऊद ने सुना कि अराम के लोग युद्ध के लिये इकट्ठा हो रहे हैं। इसलिये दाऊद ने इस्राएल के सभी सैनिकों को इकट्ठा किया। दाऊद उन्हें यरदन नदी के पार ले गया। वे अरामी लोगों के ठीक आमने सामने आ गए। दाऊद ने अपनी सेना को आक्रमण के लिये तैयार किया और अरामियों पर आक्रमण कर दिया। 18 अरामी इस्राएलियों के सामने से भाग खड़े हुए। दाऊद और उसकी सेना ने सात हजार सारथी और चालीस हजार अरामी सैनिकों को मार डाला। दाऊद और उसकी सेना ने अरामी सेना के सेनापति शोपक को भी मार डाला।
19 जब हदरेजेर के अधिकारियों ने देखा कि इस्राएल ने उनको हरा दिया तो उन्होंने दाऊद से सन्धि कर ली। वे दाऊद के सेवक बन गए। इस प्रकार अरामियों ने अम्मोनी लोगों को फिर सहायता करने से इन्कार कर दिया।

19 后来，亚扪王拿辖死了，他儿子继位。 2 大卫说：“我要恩待拿辖的儿子哈嫩，因为他父亲曾经恩待我。”他便派臣仆去安慰丧父的哈嫩。大卫的臣仆来到亚扪境内要安慰哈嫩， 3 亚扪的官长却对哈嫩说：“大卫派人来安慰你，你以为他是来吊唁你父亲吗？他的臣仆来见你不过是来探听虚实，想征服这地方。” 4 哈嫩便把大卫的臣仆抓起来，剃去他们一半胡子，割去他们下身的衣服，然后放走他们。 5 消息传到大卫那里，他就派人去迎接他们，告诉他们住在耶利哥，等胡须长好了再回来，因为他们倍觉羞辱。
6 哈嫩及其他亚扪人知道得罪了大卫，就派人用三十四吨银子从美索不达米亚、亚兰玛迦和琐巴招兵买马， 7 雇了三万二千辆战车和玛迦王及其军队。他们在米底巴附近扎营，亚扪人也从各城出来准备作战。 8 大卫听见消息后，就派约押率领全体勇士出战。 9 亚扪人在城门前列阵，来助战的诸王在郊野列阵。

16 亚兰人见自己败在以色列人手下，就派使者调来幼发拉底河那边的亚兰人，由哈大底谢的将军朔法率领。 17 大卫听到消息后，就召集以色列全军，渡过约旦河，列阵与亚兰人交战。 18 他们击溃了亚兰人，杀了七千名战车兵、四万步兵，还杀了他们的将军朔法。 19 哈大底谢的属下见自己败于以色列人，便向大卫求和，臣服于他。从此，亚兰人不敢再支援亚扪人了。

David Wins the Battle Over the Ammonites
19 Nahash was king of Ammon. After he died, his son became the next king after him. 2 David thought, “I’m going to be kind to Hanun. His father Nahash was kind to me.” So David sent messengers to Hanun. He wanted them to tell Hanun how sad he was that Hanun’s father had died. David’s messengers went to the land of Ammon. They told Hanun how sad David was.
3 The Ammonite commanders spoke to Hanun. They said, “David has sent messengers to tell you he is sad. They say he wants to honor your father. But the real reason they’ve come is to look the land over. They want to destroy it.” 4 So Hanun grabbed David’s messengers. He shaved them. He cut off their clothes just below the waist and left them half naked. Then he sent them away.
5 Someone came and told David what had happened to his men. So David sent messengers to them because they were filled with shame. King David said to them, “Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out again. Then come back here.”
6 The Ammonites realized that what they had done had made David very angry with them. So Hanun and the Ammonites got 38 tons of silver. They used it to hire chariots and chariot riders from Aram Naharaim, Aram Maakah and Zobah. 7 They hired 32,000 chariots and riders. They also hired the king of Maakah and his troops. All of them came out and camped near Medeba. At the same time the Ammonites brought their troops together from their towns. Then they marched out to fight.
8 David heard about it. So he sent Joab out with the entire army of Israel’s fighting men. 9 The Ammonites marched out. They took up their battle positions at the entrance to their city. The kings who came to help them gathered their troops together in the open country.
10 Joab saw that there were lines of soldiers in front of him and behind him. So he chose some of the best troops in Israel. He sent them to march out against the Arameans. 11 He put the rest of the men under the command of his brother Abishai. They were sent to march out against the Ammonites. 12 Joab said, “Suppose the Arameans are too strong for me. Then you must come and help me. But suppose the Ammonites are too strong for you. Then I’ll come and help you. 13 Be strong. Let’s be brave as we fight for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what he thinks is best.”
14 Then Joab and the troops with him marched out to attack the Arameans. They ran away from him. 15 The Ammonites realized that the Arameans were running away. So they also ran away from Joab’s brother Abishai. They went inside the city. Then Joab went back to Jerusalem.
16 The Arameans saw that they had been driven away by Israel. So they sent messengers to get some Arameans from east of the Euphrates River. The Arameans were under the command of Shophak. He was the commander of Hadadezer’s army.
17 David was told about it. So he gathered together the whole army of Israel. They went across the Jordan River. David marched out against the Arameans. He lined up his soldiers opposite them. He lined them up to meet the Arameans in battle. The Arameans began to fight against him. 18 But then they ran away from Israel. David killed 7,000 of their chariot riders. He killed 40,000 of their soldiers who were on foot. He also killed Shophak, the commander of their army.
19 The people who were under the rule of Hadadezer saw that Israel had won the battle over them. So they made a peace treaty with David. They were brought under his rule.
After that, the Arameans wouldn’t help the Ammonites anymore.
