上帝对大卫的应许
17 大卫住进宫殿后，对拿单先知说：“你看，我住在香柏木建的王宫中，耶和华的约柜却在帐篷里。” 2 拿单对大卫说：“你有什么想法，就去做吧！因为上帝与你同在。”
3 当晚，上帝对拿单说： 4 “你去告诉我的仆人大卫，‘耶和华说，你不是为我建造殿宇的人。’ 5 从我把以色列人带出埃及那天起直到今天，我从未住过殿宇，都住在四处迁移的帐篷里。 6 在我与以色列人同行的日子，我从未责问任何我委派牧养我子民的士师，‘你为何不为我建造香柏木的殿宇呢？’
7 “现在你要告诉我的仆人大卫，‘万军之耶和华说，你原本在草场牧羊，我召你来做我以色列子民的首领。 8 无论你去哪里，我都与你同在，为你铲除所有仇敌。现在我要使你声名远播，与世上的伟人齐名。 9-10 我必为我的以色列子民预备一个地方，栽培他们，使他们住在自己的家园，不再受惊扰，不会像从前我设立士师治理他们的时候那样受恶人压迫。我必制服你所有的仇敌，我耶和华向你宣告，我必建立你的王朝。 11 你离世归到祖先那里的时候，我必使你的一位后裔继承你的王位，使他的国坚立。 12 他要为我建造殿宇，我必使他王位永固。 13 我要做他的父亲，他要做我的儿子。我的慈爱曾离开在你之前的扫罗王，但我的慈爱必不离开他。 14 我要使他永远治理我的家和我的国。他的王位必永远稳固。’” 15 拿单就把所听到的启示全部告诉大卫。
大卫的祷告
16 于是，大卫王走进会幕，在耶和华面前坐下，说：“耶和华上帝啊，我是谁？我的家算什么？你竟如此厚待我。 17 上帝啊，不止如此，你还应许将来要恩待仆人的后裔。耶和华上帝啊，你视我为尊贵的人。 18 你将尊荣加于仆人，我还能说什么？因为你了解仆人。 19 耶和华啊，你按照自己的心意为仆人成就这大事，并显明出来。 20 耶和华啊，我们从未听过有谁能与你相比，你是独一无二的上帝。 21 世上有谁能与你的以色列子民相比？你从埃及救赎他们，让他们做你的子民，为他们驱逐外族人、行伟大奇妙的事，使自己声名远播。 22 你让以色列人永远做你的子民，你耶和华做他们的上帝。
23 “耶和华啊，愿你永远信守你对仆人和仆人家的应许，愿你成就自己的应许。 24 这样，你的名必永远坚立，被尊崇，人们必说，‘以色列的上帝——万军之耶和华是以色列的上帝’，你仆人大卫的家必在你面前坚立。 25 我的上帝啊，因为你曾启示仆人，说要为仆人建立王朝，仆人才敢这样向你祈求。 26 耶和华啊，唯独你是上帝，你应许要将这福气赐给仆人。 27 愿你赐福仆人的王朝，使它在你面前永远坚立。耶和华啊，你已赐下祝福，你的祝福是永远的！”

17 大卫住在自己宫中的时候，他对拿单先知说：“看哪，我住在香柏木做的王宫，耶和华的约柜却在帐幕里。” 2 拿单对大卫说：“你可以照你的心意去作，因为 神与你同在。” 3 当夜， 神的话临到拿单，说： 4 “你去对我的仆人大卫说：‘耶和华这样说：你不可建殿给我居住。 5 因为自从我领以色列人上来那天起，直到今日，我都未曾住过殿宇，只是从这帐幕到那帐幕，从这帐棚到那帐棚。 6 我和以色列众人，无论走到甚么地方，从没有向以色列的哪一个士师，就是我所吩咐牧养我的子民的，说：你们为甚么不给我建造香柏木的殿宇呢？’ 7 现在你要对我的仆人大卫说：‘万军之耶和华这样说：我把你从羊圈中选召出来，使你不再跟随羊群，使你作领袖管治我的子民以色列。 8 无论你到哪里去，我总与你同在；在你面前消灭你所有的仇敌；我必使你获得名声，好象世上伟人的名声一样。 9 我要为我的子民以色列人选定一个地方，栽培他们，使他们住在自己的地方，不再受搅扰，也不再像从前被恶徒苦害他们， 10 好象我吩咐士师统治我的子民以色列人的日子一样。我必制伏你所有的仇敌，并且我告诉你，耶和华必为你建立家室。 11 你的寿数满足，归你列祖那里的时候，我必兴起你的后裔接替你，他是你的众子中的一位；我必坚立他的国。 12 他要为我建造殿宇，我必坚立他的王位，直到永远。 13 我要作他的父亲，他要作我的儿子；我的慈爱必不离开他，像离开在你以前的那位一样； 14 我却要把他坚立在我的家里和我的国里，直到永远；他的王位必永远坚立。’” 15 拿单就按着这一切话和他所见的一切，告诉了大卫。

16 于是大卫王进去，坐在耶和华面前，说：“耶和华 神啊，我是甚么人？我的家算甚么，你竟带领我到这个地步？ 17 神啊，这在你眼中看为小事，你对你仆人的家的未来发出应许！耶和华 神啊，你看我好象一个高贵的人。 18 你把荣耀加在你仆人身上，我还有甚么话可以对你说呢？你认识你的仆人。 19 耶和华啊，为了你仆人的缘故，也是按着你的心意，你行了这一切大事，为要使人知道这一切大事。 20 耶和华啊，照着我们耳中所听见的，没有谁能与你相比；除你以外，再没有别的神。 21 世上有哪一个国能比得上你的子民以色列呢？ 神亲自把他们救赎出来，作自己的子民，又在你从埃及所救赎出来的子民面前驱逐列国，以大而可畏的事建立自己的名。 22 你使你的子民以色列永远作你的子民；耶和华啊，你也作了他们的 神。 23 耶和华啊，现在求你永远坚立你应许你仆人和他的家的话，照着你所说的实行吧。 24 愿你的名永远坚立、尊大，以致人人都说：‘万军之耶和华以色列的 神，实在是以色列人的 神。’这样，你仆人大卫的家就在你面前得到坚立了。 25 我的 神啊，因为你启示了你的仆人，要你的仆人为你建造殿宇，所以你仆人才敢在你面前这样祷告。 26 耶和华啊，唯有你是 神，你曾应许把这福气赐给你的仆人； 27 现在请你赐福你仆人的家，使它在你面前永远存留。耶和华啊，因为你已经赐福了你仆人的家，它必永远蒙福。”

The Lord’s Covenant with David
17 When David(A) had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the Lord’s covenant is under tent curtains.”(B)
2 So Nathan told David, “Do all that is on your heart, for God is with you.”
3 But that night(C) the word of God came to Nathan: 4 “Go to David My servant and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build Me a house to dwell in.(D) 5 From the time I brought Israel out of Egypt until today I have not lived in a house; instead, I have moved from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.(E) 6 In all My travels throughout Israel, have I ever spoken a word to even one of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, asking: Why haven’t you built Me a house of cedar?’(F)
7 “Now this is what you will say to My servant David: ‘This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.(G) 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest in the land. 9 I will establish a place for My people Israel and plant them,(H) so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not continue to oppress them as they formerly have 10 ever since the day I ordered judges to be over My people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies.
“‘Furthermore, I declare to you that the Lord Himself will build a house for you. 11 When your time comes to be with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who is one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He will build a house for Me,(I) and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me.(J) I will not take away My faithful love from him as I took it from the one who was before you.(K) 14 I will appoint him over My house and My kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.’”(L)
15 Nathan reported all these words and this entire vision to David.
David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving
16 Then(M) King David went in, sat in the Lord’s presence, and said,
Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far? 17 This was a little thing to You,[a] God, for You have spoken about Your servant’s house in the distant future. You regard me as a man of distinction,[b] Lord God. 18 What more can David say to You for honoring Your servant? You know Your servant. 19 Lord, You have done all this greatness, making known all these great promises because of Your servant and according to Your will.(N) 20 Lord, there is no one like You, and there is no God besides You, as all we have heard confirms. 21 And who is like Your people Israel? God, You came to one nation on earth to redeem a people for Yourself, to make a name for Yourself through great and awesome works by driving out nations before Your people You redeemed from Egypt.(O) 22 You made Your people Israel Your own people forever, and You, Lord, have become their God.(P)
23 Now, Lord, let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house be confirmed forever, and do as You have promised. 24 Let Your name be confirmed and magnified forever in the saying, “Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel.” May the house of Your servant David be established before You. 25 Since You, my God, have revealed to[c](Q) Your servant that You will build him a house, Your servant has found courage to pray in Your presence. 26 Yahweh, You indeed are God, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant. 27 So now, You have been pleased to bless Your servant’s house that it may continue before You forever. For You, Lord, have blessed it, and it is blessed forever.
