Jacob Goes to Egypt
46 So Israel(A) set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba,(B) he offered sacrifices(C) to the God of his father Isaac.(D)
2 And God spoke to Israel(E) in a vision at night(F) and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”
“Here I am,”(G) he replied.
3 “I am God, the God of your father,”(H) he said. “Do not be afraid(I) to go down to Egypt,(J) for I will make you into a great nation(K) there.(L) 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again.(M) And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.(N)”
5 Then Jacob left Beersheba,(O) and Israel’s(P) sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts(Q) that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. 6 So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt,(R) taking with them their livestock and the possessions(S) they had acquired(T) in Canaan. 7 Jacob brought with him to Egypt(U) his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.(V)
8 These are the names of the sons of Israel(W) (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt:
Reuben the firstborn(X) of Jacob.
9 The sons of Reuben:(Y)
Hanok, Pallu,(Z) Hezron and Karmi.(AA)
10 The sons of Simeon:(AB)
Jemuel,(AC) Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar(AD) and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.
11 The sons of Levi:(AE)
Gershon,(AF) Kohath(AG) and Merari.(AH)
12 The sons of Judah:(AI)
Er,(AJ) Onan,(AK) Shelah, Perez(AL) and Zerah(AM) (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan).(AN)
The sons of Perez:(AO)
Hezron and Hamul.(AP)
13 The sons of Issachar:(AQ)
Tola, Puah,[a](AR) Jashub[b](AS) and Shimron.
14 The sons of Zebulun:(AT)
Sered, Elon and Jahleel.
15 These were the sons Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan Aram,[c](AU) besides his daughter Dinah.(AV) These sons and daughters of his were thirty-three in all.
16 The sons of Gad:(AW)
Zephon,[d](AX) Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli.
17 The sons of Asher:(AY)
Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah.
Their sister was Serah.
The sons of Beriah:
Heber and Malkiel.
18 These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah,(AZ) whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah(BA)—sixteen in all.
19 The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel:(BB)
Joseph and Benjamin.(BC) 20 In Egypt, Manasseh(BD) and Ephraim(BE) were born to Joseph(BF) by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.[e](BG)
21 The sons of Benjamin:(BH)
Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.(BI)
22 These were the sons of Rachel(BJ) who were born to Jacob—fourteen in all.
25 These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah,(BN) whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel(BO)—seven in all.
26 All those who went to Egypt with Jacob—those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives—numbered sixty-six persons.(BP) 27 With the two sons[f] who had been born to Joseph in Egypt,(BQ) the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy[g] in all.(BR)
28 Now Jacob sent Judah(BS) ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen.(BT) When they arrived in the region of Goshen, 29 Joseph had his chariot(BU) made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel.(BV) As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father[h] and wept(BW) for a long time.(BX)
30 Israel(BY) said to Joseph, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive.”(BZ)
31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan,(CA) have come to me.(CB) 32 The men are shepherds;(CC) they tend livestock,(CD) and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’(CE) 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’(CF) 34 you should answer, ‘Your servants(CG) have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’(CH) Then you will be allowed to settle(CI) in the region of Goshen,(CJ) for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.(CK)”

46 And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.
2 And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.
3 And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:
4 I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.
5 And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him:
7 His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.
8 And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn.
9 And the sons of Reuben; Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

24 And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.
25 These are the sons of Bilhah, which Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven.
26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were threescore and six;
27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.
28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.
29 And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.
30 And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.
31 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;
32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.
33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?
34 That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

46 Israel salió con todo lo que tenía y llegó a Beerseba(A), y ofreció sacrificios al Dios de su padre Isaac(B). 2 Y Dios habló a Israel en una visión nocturna[a](C), y dijo: «Jacob, Jacob». Y él respondió: «Aquí estoy(D)».
3 Y Él dijo: «Yo soy Dios, el Dios de tu padre(E); no temas descender a Egipto, porque allí te haré una gran nación(F). 4 Yo descenderé contigo(G) a Egipto, y ciertamente, Yo también te haré volver[b](H); y José cerrará[c] tus ojos(I)».
5 Entonces Jacob se fue[d] de Beerseba. Los hijos de Israel llevaron a su padre Jacob, y a sus pequeños y a sus mujeres, en las carretas que Faraón había enviado para llevarlo(J). 6 Y tomaron sus ganados y los bienes que habían acumulado en la tierra de Canaán y vinieron a Egipto(K), Jacob y toda su descendencia[e] con él: 7 sus hijos y sus nietos con él, sus hijas y sus nietas. A toda su descendencia[f] trajo consigo a Egipto.
8 Estos son los nombres de los hijos de Israel(L), Jacob y sus hijos, que fueron a Egipto: Rubén, primogénito de Jacob. 9 Los hijos de Rubén: Hanoc, Falú, Hezrón y Carmi. 10 Los hijos de Simeón: Jemuel[g], Jamín, Ohad, Jaquín[h], Zohar[i] y Saúl, hijo de la cananea(M). 11 Los hijos de Leví: Gersón, Coat y Merari. 12 Los hijos de Judá: Er, Onán, Sela, Fares y Zara, pero Er y Onán murieron en la tierra de Canaán. Los hijos de Fares fueron Hezrón y Hamul(N).

28 Jacob envió a Judá delante de sí a José, para indicar delante de él el camino a Gosén(X), y llegaron a la tierra de Gosén. 29 José preparó su carro y subió a Gosén para ir al encuentro de su padre Israel. Apenas lo vio[y], se echó sobre su cuello y lloró largamente sobre su cuello(Y).
30 Entonces Israel dijo a José: «Ahora ya puedo morir[z], después que he visto tu rostro y sé que todavía vives». 31 Y José dijo a sus hermanos y a la familia[aa] de su padre: «Subiré y lo haré saber a Faraón, y le diré: “Mis hermanos y la familia de mi padre, que estaban en la tierra de Canaán, han venido a mí(Z). 32 Los hombres son pastores de ovejas, pues son hombres de ganado. Han traído sus ovejas y sus vacas, y todo lo que tienen”.
33 »Y cuando Faraón los llame y les diga: “¿Cuál es su ocupación(AA)?”, 34 ustedes responderán: “Sus siervos han sido hombres de ganado desde su[ab] juventud hasta ahora, tanto nosotros como nuestros padres(AB)”, a fin de que habiten en la tierra de Gosén(AC). Porque para los egipcios todo pastor de ovejas es una abominación(AD)».
