該隱和亞伯
4 亞當和他妻子夏娃同房，夏娃便懷孕，生了該隱。她說：「耶和華讓我得了一個男孩。」 2 後來，夏娃又生了該隱的弟弟亞伯。長大後，亞伯做了牧羊人，該隱做了農夫。
3 到了收成的時候，該隱把地裡的出產當祭物獻給耶和華， 4 亞伯也把羊群中頭生的羊及其最肥美的部分獻給耶和華。耶和華悅納亞伯和他的祭物， 5 卻不悅納該隱和他的祭物。該隱便非常惱火，面帶怒容。 6 耶和華問該隱：「你為什麼惱火？為什麼面帶怒容？ 7 如果你做得對，難道不會蒙悅納嗎？如果你做得不對，罪就蹲在你的門口要控制你，但你必須制伏罪。」
8 該隱對弟弟亞伯說：「我們去田間吧！」[a]他們在田間的時候，該隱動手打亞伯，把他殺了。
9 後來，耶和華問該隱：「你弟弟亞伯在哪裡？」他說：「我不知道！難道我是弟弟的看護人嗎？」 10 耶和華說：「你做了什麼事？你弟弟的血從地裡向我哭訴。 11 地張開口從你手上接受了你弟弟的血，你在地上必受咒詛。 12 你種地，地卻不會再為你長出任何東西，你必在地上四處漂泊。」 13 該隱對耶和華說：「這懲罰太重！我承受不了。 14 今天你把我趕出去，使我不能再見你的面。我在地上四處漂泊，見到我的人都會殺我。」 15 耶和華對他說：「不會的，因為凡殺你的，必遭受七倍的報應。」於是，耶和華在該隱身上留下一個記號，免得見到他的人殺他。 16 該隱離開耶和華，來到伊甸東邊的挪得住下來。
該隱的後代

4 Adam connut Eve, sa femme; elle conçut, et enfanta Caïn et elle dit: J'ai formé un homme avec l'aide de l'Éternel.
2 Elle enfanta encore son frère Abel. Abel fut berger, et Caïn fut laboureur.
3 Au bout de quelque temps, Caïn fit à l'Éternel une offrande des fruits de la terre;
4 et Abel, de son côté, en fit une des premiers-nés de son troupeau et de leur graisse. L'Éternel porta un regard favorable sur Abel et sur son offrande;
5 mais il ne porta pas un regard favorable sur Caïn et sur son offrande. Caïn fut très irrité, et son visage fut abattu.
6 Et l'Éternel dit à Caïn: Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu?
7 Certainement, si tu agis bien, tu relèveras ton visage, et si tu agis mal, le péché se couche à la porte, et ses désirs se portent vers toi: mais toi, domine sur lui.
8 Cependant, Caïn adressa la parole à son frère Abel; mais, comme ils étaient dans les champs, Caïn se jeta sur son frère Abel, et le tua.
9 L'Éternel dit à Caïn: Où est ton frère Abel? Il répondit: Je ne sais pas; suis-je le gardien de mon frère?
10 Et Dieu dit: Qu'as-tu fait? La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre jusqu'à moi.
11 Maintenant, tu seras maudit de la terre qui a ouvert sa bouche pour recevoir de ta main le sang de ton frère.
12 Quand tu cultiveras le sol, il ne te donnera plus sa richesse. Tu seras errant et vagabond sur la terre.
13 Caïn dit à l'Éternel: Mon châtiment est trop grand pour être supporté.
14 Voici, tu me chasses aujourd'hui de cette terre; je serai caché loin de ta face, je serai errant et vagabond sur la terre, et quiconque me trouvera me tuera.
15 L'Éternel lui dit: Si quelqu'un tuait Caïn, Caïn serait vengé sept fois. Et l'Éternel mit un signe sur Caïn pour que quiconque le trouverait ne le tuât point.
16 Puis, Caïn s'éloigna de la face de l'Éternel, et habita dans la terre de Nod, à l'orient d'Éden.
17 Caïn connut sa femme; elle conçut, et enfanta Hénoc. Il bâtit ensuite une ville, et il donna à cette ville le nom de son fils Hénoc.
18 Hénoc engendra Irad, Irad engendra Mehujaël, Mehujaël engendra Metuschaël, et Metuschaël engendra Lémec.
19 Lémec prit deux femmes: le nom de l'une était Ada, et le nom de l'autre Tsilla.
20 Ada enfanta Jabal: il fut le père de ceux qui habitent sous des tentes et près des troupeaux.
21 Le nom de son frère était Jubal: il fut le père de tous ceux qui jouent de la harpe et du chalumeau.
22 Tsilla, de son côté, enfanta Tubal Caïn, qui forgeait tous les instruments d'airain et de fer. La soeur de Tubal Caïn était Naama.
23 Lémec dit à ses femmes: Ada et Tsilla, écoutez ma voix! Femmes de Lémec, écoutez ma parole! J'ai tué un homme pour ma blessure, Et un jeune homme pour ma meurtrissure.
24 Caïn sera vengé sept fois, Et Lémec soixante-dix-sept fois.
25 Adam connut encore sa femme; elle enfanta un fils, et l'appela du nom de Seth, car, dit-elle, Dieu m'a donnée un autre fils à la place d'Abel, que Caïn a tué.
26 Seth eut aussi un fils, et il l'appela du nom d'Énosch. C'est alors que l'on commença à invoquer le nom de l'Éternel.

Cain Murders Abel
4 Adam made love to his wife Eve. She became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “I have gotten the man that the Lord promised.” 2 Then she gave birth to another child, Abel, Cain’s brother. Abel was a shepherd, and Cain was a farmer.
3 Later Cain brought some crops from the land as an offering to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought some choice parts of the firstborn animals from his flock. The Lord approved of Abel and his offering, 5 but he didn’t approve of Cain and his offering. So Cain became very angry and was disappointed. 6 Then the Lord asked Cain, “Why are you angry, and why do you look disappointed? 7 If you do well, won’t you be accepted? But if you don’t do well, sin is lying outside your door ready to attack. It wants to control you, but you must master it.”
8 Cain talked to his brother Abel. Later, when they were in the fields, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
9 The Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I don’t know,” he answered. “Am I supposed to take care of my brother?”
10 The Lord asked, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground. 11 So now you are cursed from the ground, which has received the blood of your brother whom you killed. 12 When you farm the ground, it will no longer yield its best for you. You will be a fugitive, a wanderer on the earth.”
13 But Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can stand! 14 You have forced me off this land today. I have to hide from you and become a fugitive, a wanderer on the earth. Now anyone who finds me will kill me!”
15 So the Lord said to him, “Not so! Anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” The Lord gave Cain a sign so that anyone meeting him would not kill him.
16 Then Cain left the Lord’s presence and lived in Nod [The Land of Wandering], east of Eden.
Cain’s Ten Descendants—Cain to Lamech
17 Cain made love to his wife. She became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was building a city, and he named it Enoch after his son. 18 To Enoch was born Irad. Irad was the father of Mehujael. Mehujael was the father of Methushael. And Methushael was the father of Lamech.
19 Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal. He was the first person to live in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the first person to play the harp and the flute. 22 Zillah also had a son, Tubalcain, who made bronze and iron tools. Tubalcain’s sister was Naamah.
23 Lamech said to his wives,
“Adah and Zillah, listen to me!
Wives of Lamech, hear what I say!
I killed a man for bruising me,
a young man for wounding me.
24 If Cain is avenged 7 times,
then Lamech, 77 times.”
Adam’s Godly Descendants—Adam to Enosh
25 Adam made love to his wife again. She gave birth to a son and named him Seth, because ⌞she said,⌟ “God has given [a] me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.”
26 A son was also born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to worship the Lord.

4 El hombre se unió a su mujer Eva, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Caín.[a] Y dijo: «¡Con la ayuda del Señor, he tenido un hijo varón!» 2 Después dio a luz a Abel, hermano de Caín. Abel se dedicó a pastorear ovejas, mientras que Caín se dedicó a trabajar la tierra. 3 Tiempo después, Caín presentó al Señor una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra. 4 Abel también presentó al Señor lo mejor de su rebaño, es decir, los primogénitos con su grasa. Y el Señor miró con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda, 5 pero no miró así a Caín ni a su ofrenda. Por eso Caín se enfureció y andaba cabizbajo.
6 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «¿Por qué estás tan enojado? ¿Por qué andas cabizbajo? 7 Si hicieras lo bueno, podrías andar con la frente en alto. Pero, si haces lo malo, el pecado te acecha, como una fiera lista para atraparte. No obstante, tú puedes dominarlo».
8 Caín habló con su hermano Abel. Mientras estaban en el campo, Caín atacó a su hermano y lo mató.
9 El Señor le preguntó a Caín:
―¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel?
―No lo sé —respondió—. ¿Acaso soy yo el que debe cuidar a mi hermano?
10 ―¡Qué has hecho! —exclamó el Señor—. Desde la tierra, la sangre de tu hermano reclama justicia. 11 Por eso, ahora quedarás bajo la maldición de la tierra, la cual ha abierto sus fauces para recibir la sangre de tu hermano, que tú has derramado. 12 Cuando cultives la tierra, no te dará sus frutos, y en el mundo serás un fugitivo errante.
13 ―Este castigo es más de lo que puedo soportar —le dijo Caín al Señor—. 14 Hoy me condenas al destierro, y nunca más podré estar en tu presencia. Andaré por el mundo errante como un fugitivo, y cualquiera que me encuentre me matará.
15 ―No será así[b] —replicó el Señor—. El que mate a Caín, será castigado siete veces.
Entonces el Señor le puso una marca a Caín, para que no fuera a matarlo quien lo hallara. 16 Así Caín se alejó de la presencia del Señor y se fue a vivir a la región llamada Nod,[c] al este del Edén.
17 Caín se unió a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc. (Caín había estado construyendo una ciudad, a la que le puso el nombre de su hijo Enoc). 18 Enoc tuvo un hijo llamado Irad, que fue el padre de Mejuyael. Este, a su vez, fue el padre de Metusael, y Metusael fue el padre de Lamec. 19 Lamec tuvo dos mujeres. Una de ellas se llamaba Ada, y la otra, Zila. 20 Ada dio a luz a Jabal, quien a su vez fue el antepasado de los que viven en tiendas de campaña y crían ganado. 21 Jabal tuvo un hermano llamado Jubal, quien fue el antepasado de los que tocan el arpa y la flauta. 22 Por su parte, Zila dio a luz a Tubal Caín, que fue herrero y forjador de toda clase de herramientas de bronce y de hierro. Tubal Caín tuvo una hermana que se llamaba Noamá.
23 Lamec dijo a sus mujeres Ada y Zila:
«¡Escuchad bien, mujeres de Lamec!
¡Escuchad mis palabras!
Maté a un hombre por haberme herido,
y a un muchacho por golpearme.
24 Si Caín será vengado siete veces,
setenta y siete veces será vengado Lamec».
25 Adán volvió a unirse a su mujer, y ella tuvo un hijo al que llamó Set,[d] porque dijo: «Dios me ha concedido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, al que mató Caín». 26 También Set tuvo un hijo, a quien llamó Enós. Desde entonces se comenzó a invocar el nombre del Señor.
