34 一天，利亞給雅各所生的女兒底娜到外面去見當地的女子。 2 當地首領希未人哈抹的兒子示劍看到她，就抓住她，強行玷污了她。 3 他戀慕雅各的女兒底娜，就用甜言蜜語討她歡心。 4 他求父親哈抹為他說親，把底娜娶過來。 5 消息傳到雅各耳中時，他的兒子們正在田野放牧。他只好忍氣吞聲，等兒子們回來再作打算。 6 示劍的父親哈抹來和雅各商議。 7 雅各的兒子們一聽說這事，就從田野趕回來。大家都非常憤怒，因為示劍不該對以色列家做這醜事——玷污雅各的女兒。
8 哈抹跟他們商議說：「我兒子示劍愛慕你們家的女兒，請你們把女兒嫁給他吧！ 9 我們可以互相通婚，你們可以把女兒嫁給我們的兒子，也可以娶我們的女兒為妻。 10 你們可以在我們這裡安頓下來，這片土地就在你們面前，住在這裡做買賣、置產業吧。」 11 示劍對底娜的父親和她的弟兄們說：「請你們恩待我，你們要什麼，我都給你們。 12 只要你們答應把女兒嫁給我，無論你們要多少聘金和禮物，我必如數奉上。」
雅各之子計殺示劍人
13 雅各的兒子們因為示劍玷污了他們的妹妹底娜，就假意對示劍和他的父親哈抹說： 14 「我們不能把妹妹嫁給沒有受過割禮的人，這對我們是一種羞辱。 15 除非你們所有的男子都跟我們一樣受割禮， 16 我們才能答應和你們通婚，共同生活，結成一個民族。 17 如果你們不肯這樣做，我們就把妹妹帶走。」
18 哈抹父子欣然答應。 19 示劍毫不遲延地照辦，因為他熱戀底娜。在哈抹家族中，他最受人尊重。 20 哈抹父子來到城門口，對那城的居民說： 21 「這些人跟我們相處和睦，就讓他們在這裡定居、做買賣吧。我們這裡有足夠的地方可以容納他們，我們可以和他們通婚。 22 可是，他們有一個條件，就是要我們所有的男子和他們一樣接受割禮，他們才答應和我們一起生活，結成一個民族。 23 到時候，他們的財產和牛羊等所有牲畜不全歸我們了嗎？我們同意他們吧，這樣他們就會在我們這裡定居。」 24 在城門進出的人聽了哈抹父子的話，都表示贊同。於是，城裡的男子都接受了割禮。
25 到了第三天，他們傷口正疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子——底娜的哥哥西緬和利未拿著利劍，乘眾人沒有防備，潛入城中，殺掉了所有的男子， 26 包括哈抹和示劍，從示劍家裡帶走了底娜。 27 雅各的兒子又到城裡擄掠，因為他們的妹妹在那裡被人玷污。 28 他們搶走牛群、羊群、驢群和城裡城外所有的東西， 29 並帶走所有財物、婦孺以及房屋裡的一切。 30 雅各責備西緬和利未說：「你們為什麼要給我惹麻煩，使我在當地的迦南人和比利洗人中留下臭名呢？我們人數很少，要是他們聯手來攻擊我們，我們全家必遭滅門之禍。」 31 他們說：「他怎麼能把我們的妹妹當妓女對待？」

Dinah Is Raped
34 Dinah, daughter of Leah and Jacob, went out to visit some of the Canaanite women. 2 When Shechem, son of the local ruler Hamor the Hivite, saw her, he took her and raped her. 3 He became very fond of Jacob’s daughter Dinah. He loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.
4 So Shechem said to his father Hamor, “Get me this girl for my wife.”
5 Jacob heard that Shechem had dishonored his daughter Dinah. His sons were with his livestock out in the open country, so Jacob kept quiet until they came home.
6 So Shechem’s father Hamor came to Jacob to speak with him. 7 Jacob’s sons came in from the open country as soon as they heard the news. The men felt outraged and very angry because Shechem had committed such a godless act against Israel’s family by raping Jacob’s daughter. This shouldn’t have happened.
8 Hamor told them. “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please let her marry him. 9 Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us, and take ours for yourselves. 10 You can live with us, and the land will be yours. Live here, move about freely in this area, and acquire property here.”
11 Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and her brothers, “Do me this favor. I’ll give you whatever you ask. 12 Set the price I must pay for the bride and the gift I must give her as high as you want. I’ll pay exactly what you tell me. Give me the girl as my wife.”
13 Then Jacob’s sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a misleading answer because he had dishonored their sister Dinah. 14 They said, “We can’t do this. We can’t give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised. That would be a disgrace to us! 15 We will give our consent to you only on one condition: Every male must be circumcised as we are. 16 Then we’ll give our daughters to you and take yours for ourselves, and we’ll live with you and become one people. 17 If you won’t agree to be circumcised, we’ll take our daughter and go.”
18 Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem. 19 The young man didn’t waste any time in doing what they said because he took such pleasure in Jacob’s daughter. He was the most honored person in all his father’s family.
20 So Hamor and his son Shechem went to their city gate to speak to the men of their city. They said, 21 “These people are friendly toward us, so let them live in our land and move about freely in the area. Look, there’s plenty of room in this land for them. We can marry their daughters and let them marry ours. 22 These people will consent to live with us and become one nation on one condition: Every male must be circumcised as they are. 23 Won’t their livestock, their personal property, and all their animals be ours? We only need to agree to do this for them. Then they’ll live with us.”
24 All the men who had come out to the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem. So they were all circumcised at the city gate.
25 Two days later, while the men were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and boldly attacked the city. They killed every man 26 including Hamor and his son Shechem. They took Dinah from Shechem’s home and left. 27 Then Jacob’s sons stripped the corpses and looted the city where their sister had been dishonored. 28 They took the sheep and goats, cattle, donkeys, and whatever else was in the city or out in the fields. 29 They carried off all the wealth and all the women and children and looted everything in the houses.
30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have caused me a lot of trouble! You’ve made the people living in the area, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, hate me. There are only a few of us. If they join forces against me and attack me, my family and I will be wiped out.”
31 Simeon and Levi asked, “Should Shechem have been allowed to treat our sister like a prostitute?”

34 Lúc đó Đi-na, con gái của Lê-a và Gia-cốp đi ra thăm viếng các phụ nữ trong xứ. 2 Khi hoàng tử Sê-chem con trai Ha-mô, người Hê-vít, vua xứ ấy, thấy nàng thì bắt nàng và làm tình cùng nàng. 3 Sê-chem mê Đi-na nên lấy lời ngon ngọt nói cùng nàng. 4 Anh chàng nói với Ha-mô cha mình rằng, “Cha làm ơn xin phép cho con cưới cô nầy làm vợ.”
5 Gia-cốp hay tin Sê-chem đã làm nhục con gái mình, nhưng vì tất cả các con trai ông đang ở ngoài đồng chăn gia súc, nên ông không nói gì, chờ họ trở về. 6 Trong khi ông đang chờ thì Ha-mô cha Sê-chem đi đến nói chuyện với Gia-cốp.
7 Khi các con trai Gia-cốp hay biết sự việc, họ liền từ đồng trở về. Họ vô cùng tức giận vì Sê-chem dám làm chuyện bỉ ổi như thế cho Ít-ra-en. Hắn ta không có quyền ăn nằm với con gái Gia-cốp.
8 Nhưng Ha-mô nói với các anh của Đi-na rằng, “Sê-chem, con trai tôi mê Đi-na lắm. Làm ơn cho nó lấy cô ấy làm vợ. 9 Các ông hãy lập sui gia với chúng tôi. Chúng tôi sẽ kết hôn cùng các phụ nữ quí ông rồi quí ông hãy lấy phụ nữ chúng tôi làm vợ. 10 Các ông có thể cùng sinh sống trong đất nầy với chúng tôi. Các ông được tự do tậu đất đai và kinh doanh ở dây.”
11 Sê-chem cũng năn nỉ Gia-cốp và các anh của Đi-na rằng, “Làm ơn nhận đề nghị của chúng tôi. Các ông đòi gì tôi cũng bằng lòng hết. 12 Các ông muốn sính lễ [a] bao nhiêu cũng được, tôi sẽ thoả mãn miễn là tôi lấy được Đi-na.”
13 Các con trai Gia-cốp dùng mưu để nói chuyện với Sê-chem và cha anh ta, vì Sê-chem đã làm nhục Đi-na, em gái mình. 14 Các người anh bảo họ, “Gả em gái chúng tôi cho anh là điều chúng tôi không thể làm được, vì mấy anh không cắt dương bì. Làm chuyện đó là điều nhục nhã cho chúng tôi. 15 Chúng tôi chỉ có thể cho anh lấy nó với một điều kiện: Tất cả các người đàn ông trong thành phố nầy của các anh phải chịu cắt dương bì giống như chúng tôi. 16 Rồi các anh sẽ kết hôn với phụ nữ của chúng tôi và chúng tôi sẽ kết hôn với phụ nữ của các anh. Sau đó chúng tôi sẽ sinh sống trong xứ các anh và trở thành cùng một dân. 17 Nhưng nếu các anh không chịu cắt dương bì thì chúng tôi sẽ bắt Đi-na và đi nơi khác.”
18 Ha-mô và Sê-chem bằng lòng lời đề nghị của họ. 19 Cho nên Sê-chem vội vàng bằng lòng cắt dương bì vì anh ta quá mê con gái Gia-cốp.
Sê-chem vốn được trọng vọng hơn cả trong gia đình. 20 Ha-mô và Sê-chem đi đến cửa thành nói chuyện với các người đàn ông trong thành rằng, 21 “Những người nầy muốn kết thân với chúng ta. Cho nên chúng ta hãy cho họ sống chung trong đất ta và kinh doanh ở đây. Đất nầy đủ rộng cho tất cả mọi người. Chúng ta hãy kết sui gia với họ. 22 Nhưng chúng ta phải chịu một điều kiện: Tất cả đàn ông trong chúng ta phải chịu cắt dương bì như họ. Như thế họ sẽ bằng lòng sống trong xứ ta, rồi chúng ta sẽ trở thành một dân mà thôi. 23 Nếu chúng ta làm như thế thì các bầy gia súc của họ sẽ thuộc về chúng ta. Thôi chúng ta hãy làm theo như điều họ muốn để họ lưu cư trong xứ chúng ta.” 24 Tất cả những người đi đến cửa thành đều nghe chuyện nầy. Họ đồng ý với Ha-mô và Sê-chem, nên mọi người đàn ông đều chịu cắt dương bì.
25 Ba ngày sau khi chịu cắt dương bì, lúc mọi người đàn ông hãy còn đau ê ẩm thì Xi-mê-ôn và Lê-vi, hai con trai Gia-cốp, anh của Đi-na, lấy gươm tấn công bất ngờ vào thành, giết sạch mọi người đàn ông trong thành. 26 Họ giết Ha-mô và Sê-chem con ông ta rồi mang Đi-na ra khỏi nhà Sê-chem, xong ra đi. 27 Các con trai Gia-cốp lục soát các xác chết lấy hết những gì trong thành, nơi em gái mình bị làm nhục. 28 Họ cướp gia súc, bầy chiên, lừa, mọi thứ trong thành và trong đồng ruộng. 29 Họ lấy hết nữ trang, thậm chí đến vợ và con cùng mọi thứ trong nhà.
30 Gia-cốp quở Xi-mê-ôn và Lê-vi, “Tụi bay gây rắc rối cho tao. Bây giờ người Ca-na-an và Phê-rê-sít trong xứ sẽ ghét tao. Mình chỉ có ít người. Nếu họ họp nhau lại đánh, thì chúng mình chỉ có chết thôi.”
31 Nhưng các anh em bảo, “Chúng con không thể để họ đối xử với em gái chúng con như với con điếm được.”

34 Now Dinah,(A) the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land. 2 When Shechem(B) son of Hamor(C) the Hivite,(D) the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her.(E) 3 His heart was drawn to Dinah(F) daughter of Jacob;(G) he loved(H) the young woman and spoke tenderly(I) to her. 4 And Shechem said to his father Hamor, “Get me this girl as my wife.”(J)
5 When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled,(K) his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he did nothing about it until they came home.
6 Then Shechem’s father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob.(L) 7 Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked(M) and furious,(N) because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in[a] Israel(O) by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.(P)
8 But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.(Q) 9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.(R) 10 You can settle among us;(S) the land is open to you.(T) Live in it, trade[b] in it,(U) and acquire property in it.(V)”
11 Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes,(W) and I will give you whatever you ask. 12 Make the price for the bride(X) and the gift I am to bring as great as you like, and I’ll pay whatever you ask me. Only give me the young woman as my wife.”
13 Because their sister Dinah had been defiled,(Y) Jacob’s sons replied deceitfully(Z) as they spoke to Shechem and his father Hamor. 14 They said to them, “We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised.(AA) That would be a disgrace to us. 15 We will enter into an agreement with you on one condition(AB) only: that you become like us by circumcising all your males.(AC) 16 Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves.(AD) We’ll settle among you and become one people with you.(AE) 17 But if you will not agree to be circumcised, we’ll take our sister and go.”
18 Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem. 19 The young man, who was the most honored(AF) of all his father’s family, lost no time in doing what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter.(AG) 20 So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city(AH) to speak to the men of their city. 21 “These men are friendly toward us,” they said. “Let them live in our land and trade in it;(AI) the land has plenty of room for them. We can marry their daughters and they can marry ours.(AJ) 22 But the men will agree to live with us as one people only on the condition that our males be circumcised,(AK) as they themselves are. 23 Won’t their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours?(AL) So let us agree to their terms, and they will settle among us.(AM)”
24 All the men who went out of the city gate(AN) agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male in the city was circumcised.
25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain,(AO) two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon(AP) and Levi,(AQ) Dinah’s brothers, took their swords(AR) and attacked the unsuspecting city,(AS) killing every male.(AT) 26 They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword(AU) and took Dinah(AV) from Shechem’s house and left. 27 The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city(AW) where[c] their sister had been defiled.(AX) 28 They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys(AY) and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.(AZ) 29 They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children,(BA) taking as plunder(BB) everything in the houses.(BC)
30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble(BD) on me by making me obnoxious(BE) to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land.(BF) We are few in number,(BG) and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.”
31 But they replied, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?(BH)”
