以撒為兒子祝福
27 以撒年老的時候，眼睛昏花，幾乎看不見。他把大兒子以掃叫來，說：「我兒啊！」以掃說：「我在這裡。」 2 以撒說：「我年老了，不知道還能活多久。 3 現在，帶著你的弓箭去田野為我打些野味來， 4 照我喜歡的口味，做成美食給我吃，以便我在死前給你祝福。」
5 利百加聽見了以撒跟兒子以掃說的話。以掃出去打獵後， 6 利百加就對她兒子雅各說：「我聽見你父親對你哥哥以掃說， 7 『你去打些野味回來，做成美食給我吃，以便我死之前在耶和華面前給你祝福。』 8 現在，孩子，你要聽我的話，照我的吩咐去做。 9 你到羊群裡選兩頭上好的山羊羔，我好照你父親喜愛的口味做成美食， 10 由你拿去給他吃，讓他死前為你祝福。」
11 雅各對母親利百加說：「哥哥以掃渾身是毛，我的皮膚光滑。 12 如果父親用手摸我，一定會發覺我騙他，那時候我不但得不到祝福，反會招來咒詛。」 13 他母親利百加對他說：「孩子啊，有咒詛，我來承擔。你只管聽我的話，把羊羔牽來。」
14 於是，雅各把羊牽來交給母親，他母親就照他父親喜愛的口味做成美食。 15 利百加又拿了大兒子以掃留在家裡最好的衣服，給小兒子雅各穿上， 16 再用山羊皮把雅各光滑的手和脖子都包起來， 17 然後把做好的美味和餅交給雅各。
18 雅各來到父親跟前，叫了一聲：「父親。」以撒回答說：「我在這裡，孩子，你是誰？」 19 雅各對父親說：「我是你的大兒子以掃，你吩咐我的事，我已經辦好了。請你坐起來，吃我打的野味，然後給我祝福。」 20 以撒對他說：「孩子，你怎麼這麼快就打到野味了？」雅各回答說：「因為你的上帝耶和華讓我碰見好機會。」 21 以撒說：「孩子，過來，讓我摸摸看你是不是我兒以掃。」 22 雅各挨到父親跟前，以撒摸著他說：「聲音是雅各的聲音，手卻是以掃的手。」 23 因為雅各手上有毛，與他哥哥以掃的手一樣，以撒分辨不出來，就給他祝福。 24 以撒又問：「你真是我的兒子以掃嗎？」雅各回答說：「是。」 25 以撒便說：「把野味拿給我，我吃了你打的野味就為你祝福。」雅各遞上野味，以撒吃了；雅各又拿酒給他喝，他也喝了。 26 以撒對他說：「孩子，你過來親吻我。」 27 雅各就挨上前去親了父親。以撒聞到他衣服上的氣味，就祝福他說：
「我兒子的香氣就像蒙耶和華賜福之田地的香氣。
28 願上帝賜你天上的甘霖、肥沃的土地並豐富的五穀和新酒。
29 願萬民都臣服於你，
萬國都向你下拜。
願你成為你弟兄的主人，
願你母親的兒子向你下拜。
咒詛你的，願他受咒詛；
祝福你的，願他蒙祝福。」
以掃求父親祝福
30 雅各接受了以撒的祝福才剛離開，他的哥哥以掃就打獵回來了。 31 以掃把野味煮好，拿到父親跟前，說：「父親，請起來吃你兒子煮的野味，然後給我祝福。」 32 他父親以撒問道：「你是誰？」以掃回答說：「我是你的長子以掃。」 33 以撒大為震驚，說：「你沒有來之前，拿野味來給我吃的是誰呢？我已經吃了，也給那人祝福了，他將來必蒙祝福。」
34 以掃聽了放聲痛哭，說：「父親啊，求你也為我祝福！」 35 以撒說：「你弟弟已經用詭計把你的福分奪去了。」 36 以掃說：「怪不得他叫雅各，他已經騙了我兩次，先前把我長子的名分奪去，現在又奪去我的福分！」接著他對父親說：「難道你沒有留下別的祝福可以給我嗎？」
37 以撒對以掃說：「我已經立他做你的主人，使他的眾弟兄做他的僕人，並給他五穀和新酒。孩子啊，我還能為你做什麼呢？」 38 以掃對父親說：「父親啊，你只有一個祝福嗎？父親啊，求你也為我祝福！」以掃又放聲大哭。 39 以撒對他說：
「你住的地方必遠離肥沃的土地，
也不會有天上的甘霖。
40 你必倚靠刀劍生活，
又必服侍你的弟弟。
到你無法忍受的時候，
你必掙脫頸上的重軛。」
雅各逃往舅父家
41 以掃因為父親把祝福給了雅各，就對雅各懷恨在心，暗自思量說：「父親已經不久人世，他死後，我要把雅各殺掉！」 42 以掃的計謀傳到利百加耳中。她就派人把雅各叫來，對他說：「你哥哥以掃想要殺你洩憤！ 43 孩子，聽我的話，現在就逃到哈蘭你舅舅拉班那裡， 44 與他住些日子，一直住到你哥哥的氣消了。 45 等他氣消了，忘了你對他所做的事，我會派人接你回來。我何必在一天之內失去你們兩個呢？」 46 利百加對以撒說：「我被這些赫人女子煩死了。如果雅各也像以掃一樣娶那些赫人女子為妻，我活著還有什麼意思呢？」

Isaac bendice a Jacob y Esaú
27 Isaac era ya anciano y sus ojos se habían nublado tanto que ya no veía. Entonces llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor, y le dijo:
— ¡Hijo mío!
Él respondió:
— Aquí estoy.
2 Continuó Isaac:
— Como ves, ya soy un anciano y cualquier día me puedo morir. 3 Quiero que vayas al monte con tu arco y tus flechas y me traigas algo de caza. 4 Después me lo guisas como a mí me gusta y me lo traes para que me lo coma, pues deseo darte mi bendición antes de morir.
5 Pero Rebeca había estado escuchando lo que Isaac le decía a su hijo Esaú y, en cuanto este salió al monte a cazar algo para su padre, 6 ella llamó a su hijo Jacob y le dijo:
— Según acabo de escuchar, tu padre le ha pedido a tu hermano Esaú 7 que cace un animal y se lo traiga para hacerle un guiso como a él le gusta, y después le dará su bendición delante del Señor antes de morir. 8 Así que ahora, hijo mío, haz lo que te mando. 9 Vete al rebaño y tráeme dos de los mejores cabritos. Yo prepararé a tu padre un guiso como a él le gusta 10 y tú se lo llevarás para que coma; y así te dará su bendición antes de morir.
11 Pero Jacob replicó a Rebeca, su madre:
— Sabes que mi hermano Esaú es velludo y yo soy lampiño. 12 Si resulta que mi padre llega a palparme y descubre que soy un impostor, me acarrearé maldición en lugar de bendición.
13 Su madre le dijo:
— Caiga sobre mí esa maldición, hijo mío. Tú haz lo que te digo y tráeme esos cabritos.
14 Jacob fue en busca de los cabritos, se los llevó a su madre y ella preparó el guiso como a su padre le gustaba. 15 Después Rebeca tomó la ropa de su hijo mayor Esaú, el mejor vestido que guardaba en casa, y se lo vistió a Jacob, su hijo menor. 16 Con la piel de los cabritos le cubrió las manos y la parte lampiña del cuello, 17 y puso en las manos de su hijo Jacob el guiso y el pan que había preparado.
18 Jacob entró adonde estaba su padre y le dijo:
— ¡Padre!
Isaac respondió:
— Aquí estoy. ¿Quién eres tú, hijo mío?
19 Jacob dijo:
— Soy Esaú, tu primogénito. Ya hice lo que me pediste. Ven, incorpórate para comer de lo que he cazado, y después me darás tu bendición.
20 Isaac dijo a su hijo:
— ¡Qué pronto has encontrado caza!
Jacob respondió:
— El Señor tu Dios me la puso al alcance.
21 Pero Isaac le dijo:
— Acércate, hijo mío, deja que te palpe para saber si de veras eres o no mi hijo Esaú.
22 Y Jacob se acercó a Isaac, su padre, que palpándolo dijo:
— La voz es la de Jacob, pero las manos son de Esaú. 23 Así que no lo reconoció porque sus manos eran velludas como las de su hermano Esaú. Ya se disponía a bendecirlo 24 cuando volvió a preguntarle:
— ¿Eres tú de verdad mi hijo Esaú?
Jacob contestó:
— Lo soy.
25 Entonces su padre le dijo:
— Sírveme de lo que has cazado, hijo mío, para que coma, y te daré mi bendición.
Jacob sirvió de comer a su padre, y comió; también le sirvió vino, y bebió. 26 Después Isaac, su padre, le dijo:
— Acércate ahora, hijo mío, y bésame.
27 Cuando Jacob se acercó para besarlo, Isaac le olió la ropa. Entonces lo bendijo con estas palabras:
“El aroma de mi hijo
es como el aroma de un campo
que el Señor ha bendecido.
28 Que Dios te conceda del cielo el rocío,
y de la tierra una abundante cosecha
de vino y de trigo.
29 Que tengas pueblos por vasallos
y naciones se inclinen ante ti.
Que seas señor de tus hermanos
y ante ti se postren los hijos de tu madre.
¡Maldito sea quien te maldiga,
y quien te bendiga, bendito sea!”.
30 Apenas había terminado Isaac de bendecir a Jacob y de salir este de donde estaba su padre, cuando volvió de cazar Esaú, su hermano. 31 Preparó también Esaú un guiso, se lo llevó a su padre y le dijo:
— Levántate, padre, come de esto que ha cazado tu hijo y dame tu bendición.
32 Su padre Isaac le preguntó:
— ¿Quién eres tú?
Él respondió:
— Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito.
33 Isaac se estremeció sobremanera y exclamó:
— Entonces ¿quién es el que fue a cazar y me lo trajo y comí de todo antes de que tú llegaras? Le di mi bendición, y bendecido quedará.
34 Al oír Esaú las palabras de su padre, lanzó un grito atroz, lleno de amargura, y le suplicó:
— ¡Dame tu bendición a mí también, padre!
35 Pero Isaac le respondió:
— Ha venido tu hermano con engaños y te ha robado tu bendición.
36 Esaú exclamó:
— ¡Con razón le pusieron el nombre de Jacob! Ya van dos veces que me ha hecho trampa; primero me quitó mi primogenitura, y ahora me ha arrebatado mi bendición. ¿No te queda otra bendición para mí?
37 Isaac le respondió:
— Mira, lo he puesto por señor tuyo y he declarado siervos suyos a todos sus hermanos. Le he provisto de vino y trigo, ¿qué puedo hacer ya por ti, hijo mío?
38 Pero Esaú insistió:
— ¿Es que sólo tienes una bendición, padre? ¡Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío!
Y Esaú se puso a llorar y a dar grandes gritos.
39 Entonces Isaac, su padre, le dijo:
Vivirás lejos de la tierra fértil,
lejos del rocío del cielo.
40 Vivirás de tu espada
y a tu hermano servirás.
Pero cuando te rebeles,
lograrás quitar su yugo de tu cuello.
41 Desde entonces Esaú guardó un profundo rencor hacia su hermano por la bendición que le había dado su padre, y se decía: “No está lejos el día en que hagamos duelo por la muerte de mi padre; después de eso, mataré a mi hermano Jacob.”
42 Alguien contó a Rebeca lo que Esaú, su hijo mayor, estaba tramando; así que mandó llamar a Jacob, el hijo menor, y le dijo:
— Mira, tu hermano Esaú quiere matarte para vengarse de ti. 43 Créeme, hijo mío, debes huir en seguida a Jarán, a casa de mi hermano Labán. 44 Quédate con él por algún tiempo, hasta que se apacigüe la furia de tu hermano. 45 Cuando ya se haya calmado y olvide lo que le has hecho, entonces te mandaré aviso para que vuelvas. ¡No quiero perderos a los dos el mismo día!
46 Luego Rebeca dijo a Isaac:
— Estas nueras hititas me están amargando la vida. Como Jacob se case también con una de esas hititas, con una nativa de este país, ¡más me valdría morir!

Jacob obtiene la bendición de Isaac
27 Aconteció que cuando Isaac envejeció, y sus ojos se oscurecieron quedando sin vista, llamó a Esaú su hijo mayor, y le dijo: Hijo mío. Y él respondió: Heme aquí. 2 Y él dijo: He aquí ya soy viejo, no sé el día de mi muerte. 3 Toma, pues, ahora tus armas, tu aljaba y tu arco, y sal al campo y tráeme caza; 4 y hazme un guisado como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo, y comeré, para que yo te bendiga antes que muera. 5 Y Rebeca estaba oyendo, cuando hablaba Isaac a Esaú su hijo; y se fue Esaú al campo para buscar la caza que había de traer.
6 Entonces Rebeca habló a Jacob su hijo, diciendo: He aquí yo he oído a tu padre que hablaba con Esaú tu hermano, diciendo: 7 Tráeme caza y hazme un guisado, para que coma, y te bendiga en presencia de Jehová antes que yo muera. 8 Ahora, pues, hijo mío, obedece a mi voz en lo que te mando. 9 Ve ahora al ganado, y tráeme de allí dos buenos cabritos de las cabras, y haré de ellos viandas para tu padre, como a él le gusta; 10 y tú las llevarás a tu padre, y comerá, para que él te bendiga antes de su muerte. 11 Y Jacob dijo a Rebeca su madre: He aquí, Esaú mi hermano es hombre velloso, y yo lampiño. 12 Quizá me palpará mi padre, y me tendrá por burlador, y traeré sobre mí maldición y no bendición. 13 Y su madre respondió: Hijo mío, sea sobre mí tu maldición; solamente obedece a mi voz y ve y tráemelos. 14 Entonces él fue y los tomó, y los trajo a su madre; y su madre hizo guisados, como a su padre le gustaba. 15 Y tomó Rebeca los vestidos de Esaú su hijo mayor, los preciosos, que ella tenía en casa, y vistió a Jacob su hijo menor; 16 y cubrió sus manos y la parte de su cuello donde no tenía vello, con las pieles de los cabritos; 17 y entregó los guisados y el pan que había preparado, en manos de Jacob su hijo.
18 Entonces este fue a su padre y dijo: Padre mío. E Isaac respondió: Heme aquí; ¿quién eres, hijo mío? 19 Y Jacob dijo a su padre: Yo soy Esaú tu primogénito; he hecho como me dijiste: levántate ahora, y siéntate, y come de mi caza, para que me bendigas. 20 Entonces Isaac dijo a su hijo: ¿Cómo es que la hallaste tan pronto, hijo mío? Y él respondió: Porque Jehová tu Dios hizo que la encontrase delante de mí. 21 E Isaac dijo a Jacob: Acércate ahora, y te palparé, hijo mío, por si eres mi hijo Esaú o no. 22 Y se acercó Jacob a su padre Isaac, quien le palpó, y dijo: La voz es la voz de Jacob, pero las manos, las manos de Esaú. 23 Y no le conoció, porque sus manos eran vellosas como las manos de Esaú; y le bendijo. 24 Y dijo: ¿Eres tú mi hijo Esaú? Y Jacob respondió: Yo soy. 25 Dijo también: Acércamela, y comeré de la caza de mi hijo, para que yo te bendiga; y Jacob se la acercó, e Isaac comió; le trajo también vino, y bebió. 26 Y le dijo Isaac su padre: Acércate ahora, y bésame, hijo mío. 27 Y Jacob se acercó, y le besó; y olió Isaac el olor de sus vestidos, y le bendijo, diciendo:
Mira, el olor de mi hijo,
Como el olor del campo que Jehová ha bendecido;
28 Dios, pues, te dé del rocío del cielo,
Y de las grosuras de la tierra,
Y abundancia de trigo y de mosto.
29 Sírvante pueblos,
Y naciones se inclinen a ti;
Sé señor de tus hermanos,
Y se inclinen ante ti los hijos de tu madre.
Malditos los que te maldijeren,
30 Y aconteció, luego que Isaac acabó de bendecir a Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de delante de Isaac su padre, que Esaú su hermano volvió de cazar. 31 E hizo él también guisados, y se los llevó a su padre, y le dijo: Levántese mi padre, y coma de la caza de su hijo, para que me bendiga. 32 Entonces Isaac su padre le dijo: ¿Quién eres tú? Y él le dijo: Yo soy tu hijo, tu primogénito, Esaú. 33 Y se estremeció Isaac grandemente, y dijo: ¿Quién es el que vino aquí, que trajo caza, y me dio, y comí de todo antes que tú vinieses? Yo le bendije, y será bendito. 34 Cuando Esaú oyó las palabras de su padre, clamó con una muy grande y muy amarga exclamación, y le dijo: Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío. 35 Y él dijo: Vino tu hermano con engaño, y tomó tu bendición. 36 Y Esaú respondió: Bien llamaron su nombre Jacob, pues ya me ha suplantado dos veces: se apoderó de mi primogenitura,(C) y he aquí ahora ha tomado mi bendición. Y dijo: ¿No has guardado bendición para mí? 37 Isaac respondió y dijo a Esaú: He aquí yo le he puesto por señor tuyo, y le he dado por siervos a todos sus hermanos; de trigo y de vino le he provisto; ¿qué, pues, te haré a ti ahora, hijo mío? 38 Y Esaú respondió a su padre: ¿No tienes más que una sola bendición, padre mío? Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío. Y alzó Esaú su voz, y lloró.(D)
39 Entonces Isaac su padre habló y le dijo:
He aquí, será tu habitación en grosuras de la tierra,
Y del rocío de los cielos de arriba;
40 Y por tu espada vivirás, y a tu hermano servirás;
Y sucederá cuando te fortalezcas,
Jacob huye de Esaú
41 Y aborreció Esaú a Jacob por la bendición con que su padre le había bendecido, y dijo en su corazón: Llegarán los días del luto de mi padre, y yo mataré a mi hermano Jacob. 42 Y fueron dichas a Rebeca las palabras de Esaú su hijo mayor; y ella envió y llamó a Jacob su hijo menor, y le dijo: He aquí, Esaú tu hermano se consuela acerca de ti con la idea de matarte. 43 Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedece a mi voz; levántate y huye a casa de Labán mi hermano en Harán, 44 y mora con él algunos días, hasta que el enojo de tu hermano se mitigue; 45 hasta que se aplaque la ira de tu hermano contra ti, y olvide lo que le has hecho; yo enviaré entonces, y te traeré de allá. ¿Por qué seré privada de vosotros ambos en un día? 46 Y dijo Rebeca a Isaac: Fastidio tengo de mi vida, a causa de las hijas de Het. Si Jacob toma mujer de las hijas de Het, como estas, de las hijas de esta tierra, ¿para qué quiero la vida?

27 When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see,(A) he called for Esau his older son(B) and said to him, “My son.”
“Here I am,” he answered.
2 Isaac said, “I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death.(C) 3 Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country(D) to hunt some wild game for me. 4 Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like(E) and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing(F) before I die.”(G)
5 Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country(H) to hunt game and bring it back, 6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob,(I) “Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau, 7 ‘Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.’(J) 8 Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you:(K) 9 Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats,(L) so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.(M) 10 Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing(N) before he dies.”
11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “But my brother Esau is a hairy man(O) while I have smooth skin. 12 What if my father touches me?(P) I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse(Q) on myself rather than a blessing.”
13 His mother said to him, “My son, let the curse fall on me.(R) Just do what I say;(S) go and get them for me.”
14 So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it.(T) 15 Then Rebekah took the best clothes(U) of Esau her older son,(V) which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob. 16 She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins.(W) 17 Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made.
18 He went to his father and said, “My father.”
“Yes, my son,” he answered. “Who is it?”(X)
19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn.(Y) I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game,(Z) so that you may give me your blessing.”(AA)
20 Isaac asked his son, “How did you find it so quickly, my son?”
“The Lord your God gave me success,(AB)” he replied.
21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Come near so I can touch you,(AC) my son, to know whether you really are my son Esau or not.”
22 Jacob went close to his father Isaac,(AD) who touched(AE) him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau;(AF) so he proceeded to bless him. 24 “Are you really my son Esau?” he asked.
“I am,” he replied.
25 Then he said, “My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.”(AG)
Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here, my son, and kiss me.”
27 So he went to him and kissed(AH) him(AI). When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes,(AJ) he blessed him and said,
“Ah, the smell of my son
is like the smell of a field
that the Lord has blessed.(AK)
28 May God give you heaven’s dew(AL)
and earth’s richness(AM)—
an abundance of grain(AN) and new wine.(AO)
29 May nations serve you
and peoples bow down to you.(AP)
Be lord over your brothers,
and may the sons of your mother bow down to you.(AQ)
May those who curse you be cursed
and those who bless you be blessed.(AR)”
30 After Isaac finished blessing him, and Jacob had scarcely left his father’s presence, his brother Esau came in from hunting. 31 He too prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Then he said to him, “My father, please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.”(AS)
32 His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?”(AT)
“I am your son,” he answered, “your firstborn, Esau.(AU)”
33 Isaac trembled violently and said, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me?(AV) I ate it just before you came and I blessed him—and indeed he will be blessed!(AW)”
34 When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry(AX) and said to his father, “Bless(AY) me—me too, my father!”
35 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully(AZ) and took your blessing.”(BA)
36 Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob[a]?(BB) This is the second time he has taken advantage of(BC) me: He took my birthright,(BD) and now he’s taken my blessing!”(BE) Then he asked, “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?”
37 Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine.(BF) So what can I possibly do for you, my son?”
38 Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud.(BG)
39 His father Isaac answered him,(BH)
“Your dwelling will be
away from the earth’s richness,
away from the dew(BI) of heaven above.(BJ)
40 You will live by the sword
and you will serve(BK) your brother.(BL)
But when you grow restless,
you will throw his yoke
from off your neck.(BM)”
41 Esau held a grudge(BN) against Jacob(BO) because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning(BP) for my father are near; then I will kill(BQ) my brother Jacob.”(BR)
42 When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau(BS) had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.(BT) 43 Now then, my son, do what I say:(BU) Flee at once to my brother Laban(BV) in Harran.(BW) 44 Stay with him for a while(BX) until your brother’s fury subsides. 45 When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him,(BY) I’ll send word for you to come back from there.(BZ) Why should I lose both of you in one day?”
46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m disgusted with living because of these Hittite(CA) women. If Jacob takes a wife from among the women of this land,(CB) from Hittite women like these, my life will not be worth living.”(CC)

27 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
6 And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the Lord before my death.
8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.
11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.
14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
17 And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first born; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the Lord thy God brought it to me.
21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine and he drank.
26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:
28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.
30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.
32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.
33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;
45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
