2 天地萬物都造好了。 2 第七天，上帝完成了祂的創造之工，就在第七天歇了一切的工。 3 上帝賜福給第七天，將其定為聖日，因為祂在這一天歇了祂一切的創造之工。 4 這是有關創造天地的記載。
上帝造亞當和夏娃
耶和華上帝創造天地的時候， 5 地上還沒有草木菜蔬，因為耶和華上帝還沒有降雨在地上，土地也沒有人耕作， 6 但有水從地裡湧出，澆灌大地。 7 耶和華上帝用地上的塵土造了人，把生命的氣息吹進他的鼻孔裡，他就成了有生命的人。 8 耶和華上帝在東方的伊甸開闢了一個園子，把祂所造的人安置在裡面。 9 耶和華上帝使地面長出各種樹木，它們既好看又能結出可吃的果子。在園子的中間有生命樹和分別善惡的樹。
10 有一條河從伊甸流出來灌溉那園子，又從那裡分出四條支流。 11 第一條支流叫比遜河，它環繞著哈腓拉全境。那裡有金子， 12 且是上好的金子，還有珍珠和紅瑪瑙。 13 第二條支流是基訓河，它環繞著古實全境。 14 第三條支流名叫底格里斯河，它流經亞述的東邊。第四條支流是幼發拉底河。
15 耶和華上帝把那人安置在伊甸的園子裡，讓他在那裡耕種、看管園子。 16 耶和華上帝吩咐那人說：「你可以隨意吃園中所有樹上的果子， 17 只是不可吃那棵分別善惡樹的果子，因為你若吃了，當天必死。」
18 耶和華上帝說：「那人獨自一人不好，我要為他造一個相配的幫手。」 19 耶和華上帝用塵土造了各種田野的走獸和空中的飛鳥，把牠們帶到那人跟前，看他怎麼稱呼這些動物。他叫這些動物什麼，牠們的名字就是什麼。 20 那人給所有的牲畜及田野的走獸和空中的飛鳥都起了名字。可是他找不到一個跟自己相配的幫手。 21 耶和華上帝使那人沉睡，然後從他身上取出一根肋骨，再把肉合起來。 22 耶和華上帝用那根肋骨造成一個女人，帶到那人跟前。 23 那人說：
「這才是我的同類，
我骨中的骨，肉中的肉，
要稱她為女人，
因為她是從男人身上取出來的。」
24 因此，人要離開父母，與妻子結合，二人成為一體。 25 當時，他們夫婦二人都赤身露體，並不覺得羞恥。

The Seventh Day—Rest
2 So the sky, the earth and all that filled them were finished. 2 By the seventh day God finished the work he had been doing. So on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 God blessed the seventh day and made it a holy day. He made it holy because on that day he rested. He rested from all the work he had done in creating the world.
The First People
4 This is the story of the creation of the sky and the earth. When the Lord God made the earth and the sky, 5 there were no plants on the earth. Nothing was growing in the fields. The Lord God had not yet made it rain on the land. And there was no man to care for the ground. 6 But a mist often rose from the earth and watered all the ground.
7 Then the Lord God took dust from the ground and formed man from it. The Lord breathed the breath of life into the man’s nose. And the man became a living person. 8 Then the Lord God planted a garden in the East, in a place called Eden. He put the man he had formed in that garden. 9 The Lord God caused every beautiful tree and every tree that was good for food to grow out of the ground. In the middle of the garden, God put the tree that gives life. And he put there the tree that gives the knowledge of good and evil.
10 A river flowed through Eden and watered the garden. From that point the river was divided. It had four streams flowing into it. 11 The name of the first stream is Pishon. It flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 That gold is good. Bdellium and onyx[a] are also there. 13 The name of the second river is Gihon. It flows around the whole land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is Tigris. It flows out of Assyria toward the east. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
15 The Lord God put the man in the garden of Eden to care for it and work it. 16 The Lord God commanded him, “You may eat the fruit from any tree in the garden. 17 But you must not eat the fruit from the tree which gives the knowledge of good and evil. If you ever eat fruit from that tree, you will die!”
The First Woman
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is right for him.”
19 From the ground God formed every wild animal and every bird in the sky. He brought them to the man so the man could name them. Whatever the man called each living thing, that became its name. 20 The man gave names to all the tame animals, to the birds in the sky and to all the wild animals. But Adam[b] did not find a helper that was right for him. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to sleep very deeply. While the man was asleep, God took one of the ribs from the man’s body. Then God closed the man’s skin at the place where he took the rib. 22 The Lord God used the rib from the man to make a woman. Then the Lord brought the woman to the man.
23 And the man said,
“Now, this is someone whose bones came from my bones.
Her body came from my body.
I will call her ‘woman,’
because she was taken out of man.”
24 So a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife. And the two people will become one body.
25 The man and his wife were naked, but they were not ashamed.

2 याप्रमाणे पृथ्वी, आकाश आणि त्यांतील सर्वकाही पूर्ण करुन झाले. 2 देवाने आपण करीत असलेले काम संपवले म्हणून सातव्या दिवशी त्याने काम करण्यापासून विसावा घेतला. 3 देवाने सातवा दिवस आशीर्वाद देऊन पवित्र केला व विशेष ठरविला कारण त्या दिवशी जग निर्माण करताना त्याने केलेल्या सर्व कामापासून विसावा घेतला.
मानवाची सुरवात
4 हा आकाश व पृथ्वी निर्माण केल्याचा इतिहास आहे. देवाने आकाश व पृथ्वी उत्पन्न केली त्या वेळी जे जे घडले त्यांच्या उत्पत्ति क्रमाविषयीचा हा वृत्तान्त आहे. 5 त्यापूर्वी पृथ्वीवर वनस्पती नव्हती, शेतात काही उगवले नव्हते. कारण परमेश्वराने अद्याप पृथ्वीवर पाऊस पाडला नव्हता आणि जमिनीची मशागत करण्यास कोणी मनुष्य नव्हता.
6 पृथ्वीवरुन धुके वर जात असे व त्याने सर्व जमिनीवर पाणी शिपंडले व पसरले जात असे. 7 नंतर परमेश्वर देवाने जामिनीतील मातीचा मनुष्य घडवला व त्याच्या नाकपुड्यात जीवनाचा श्वास फुंकला आणि मनुष्य जीवधारी म्हणजे जीवंत प्राणी झाला. 8 मग परमेश्वर देवाने पूर्वेकडे एदेन नावाच्या जागेत एक बाग लावली आणि त्या बागेत आपण घडविलेल्या मनुष्याला ठेवले. 9 परमेश्वर देवाने सुदंर दिसणारी अन्नासाठी उत्तम अशी सर्व जातीची झाडे बागेमध्ये उगवली आणि बागेच्या मध्यभागी जीवनाचे झाड आणि बऱ्यावाईटाचे ज्ञान देणारे झाड अशी झाडे लावली.
10 एदेन बागेत एक नदी उगम पावली व तिने सर्व बागेला पाणी पुरवले. नंतर ती नदी विभागून तिच्या चार वेगळया नद्या झाल्या. 11 पहिल्या नदिचे नाव पीशोन होते. ही सर्व हवीला देशाला वेढा घालून वाहाते 12 त्या देशात चांगल्या प्रतीचे सोने सापडते. तेथे मोती व गोमेद ही रत्ने सापडतात 13 दुसऱ्या नदीचे नाव गीहोन आहे, ही सगळ्या कूश म्हणजे इथिओपिया देशाभोवती वाहते. 14 तिसऱ्या नदिचे नाव हिद्दकेल. ही अश्शूर म्हणजे असीरिया देशाच्या पूर्वेस वहात जाते. चौथ्या नदीचे नाव फरात म्हणजे युफ्रेटीस असे आहे.
15 परमेश्वर देवाने मनुष्याला एदेन बागेत तिची मशागत करण्यासाठी व बागेची काळजी घेण्यासाठी ठेवले. 16 परमेश्वराने मनुष्याला ही आज्ञा दिली; परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “बागेतील कोणत्याही झाडाचे फळ तू खुशाल खाऊ शकतो. 17 परंतु बऱ्यावाईटाचे ज्ञान करुन देणाऱ्या झाडाचे फुळ तू खाऊ नको; जर त्या झाडाचे फळ तू खाशील तर तू नक्की मरशील.”
पहिली स्त्री
18 नंतर परमेश्वर बोलला, “मनुष्याने एकटे असावे हे बरे नाही; मी त्याच्यासाठी योग्य मदतनीस निर्माण करीन.”
19 परमेश्वराने मातीतून शेतातील सर्व जातीचे प्राणी आणि आकाशातील सर्वजातीचे पक्षी उत्पन्न केले आणि त्यांना मनुष्याकडे नेले आणि मनुष्याने म्हणजे आदामाने त्या सर्वांना नावे दिली. 20 आदामाने सर्व पाळीव प्राणी, आकाशातील सर्वपक्षी आणि सर्व वनपशू म्हणजे जंगलातील, रानावनातील जनावरे यांना नावे दिली. आदामाने हे सर्व पशू—पक्षी पाहिले परंतु त्याला त्यांच्यात आपणासाठी योग्य असा मदतनीस सापडला नाही. 21 तेव्हा परमेश्वर देवाने आदामाला गाढ झोप लागू दिली. आणि तो झोपला असता परमेश्वराने आदामाच्या शरीरातून एक फासळी काढली व ती जागा चमडचाने बंद केली. तेव्हा ती मांसाने भरुन आली. 22 परमेश्वराने आदामाची फासळी काढून तिची स्त्री बनवली आणि तिला आदामाकडे नेले. 23 तेव्हा आदाम म्हणाला,
“आता ही मात्र माझ्यासारखी आहे.
तिची हाडे माझ्या हाडा पासून
व तिचे शरीर माझ्या शरीरापासून बनवले आहे.
मी तिला स्त्री म्हणजे नारी असे नाव देतो.
कारण ती नरापासून बनवलेली आहे.”
24 म्हणून मनुष्य आपल्या आईबापांस सोडून आपल्या बायकोला जडून राहील आणि ते दोघे एक देह होतील.
25 एदेन बागेत आदाम व त्याची बायको ही दोघे नग्न होती. परंतु त्यांना कसलीच लाज वाटत नव्हती.
