亞伯蘭與羅得分道揚鑣

13 亞伯蘭帶著妻子、侄兒羅得和所有的一切離開埃及去南地。 ²這時候亞伯蘭已經擁有很多牲畜和金銀。 ^3-4他從南地漸漸遷移到伯特利，到了他從前在伯特利和艾中間搭帳篷和築壇的地方。他又在那裡求告耶和華。 ⁵和亞伯蘭同行的羅得也有牛群、羊群和帳篷。 ⁶他們的牲畜很多，那地方容納不下，他們無法住在一起。 ⁷亞伯蘭的牧人和羅得的牧人彼此爭執。那時，迦南人和比利洗人也住在那裡。

⁸亞伯蘭對羅得說：「我們不該彼此爭執，我們的牧人也不該互相爭執，因為我們是骨肉至親。 ⁹整片土地不就在你面前嗎？我們分開吧。如果你往左邊去，我就往右邊走；如果你往右邊去，我就往左邊走。」 ¹⁰羅得舉目眺望，看見整個約旦河平原，遠至瑣珥，水源充足。在耶和華還沒有毀滅所多瑪和蛾摩拉之前，那地方就好像耶和華的伊甸園，又像埃及。 ¹¹於是，羅得選了整個約旦河平原，向東遷移，他們便分開了。 ¹²亞伯蘭住在迦南，羅得則住在平原的城邑裡，並漸漸把帳篷遷移到所多瑪附近。 ¹³所多瑪人極其邪惡，在耶和華眼中罪惡滔天。

Abram and Lot Part Ways

13 Abram traveled from Egypt, along with his wife and everyone who belonged to his household^[a]—including Lot—to the Negev.^[b]

²Now Abram had become quite wealthy in livestock, silver, and gold. ³He journeyed by stages from the Negev^[c] to Bethel, the place where his tent had formerly been, between Bethel and Ai, ⁴where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the Lord.

⁵Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks of sheep, herds, and tents. ⁶But the land could not support them living together, because they had so many livestock that they could not stay together. ⁷There was strife between the herdsmen in charge of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen in charge of Lot’s livestock. Also, at that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land.

⁸So Abram told Lot, “Please, let’s not have strife between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, since we are relatives.^[d] ⁹Isn’t the whole land available to you? Let’s separate: If you go^[e] to the left, then I will go to the right; if you go^[f] to the right, then I will go to the left.”

¹⁰Lot looked around and noticed that the whole Jordan plain as far as Zoar was well-watered like the garden of the Lord or like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) ¹¹So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan plain. Then Lot traveled eastward, and they separated from each other.

¹²So Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the plain, setting up his tent in the vicinity of Sodom. ¹³Now the men of Sodom were particularly evil and sinful in their defiance of^[g] the Lord.

¹⁴After Lot had separated from Abram, the Lord told Abram, “Look off to the north, south^[h], east, and west^[i] from where you’re living, ¹⁵because I’m going to give you and your descendants all of the land that you see—forever! ¹⁶I’ll make your descendants as plentiful as^[j] the specks of^[k] dust of the earth, so that if one could count the specks of^[l] dust of the earth, then your descendants could also be counted. ¹⁷Get up! Walk throughout the length and breadth of the land, because I’m going to give it to you.”

¹⁸So Abram moved his tent and settled beside the oaks of Mamre that are by Hebron, where he built an altar to the Lord.

Abram Inherits Canaan

13 Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and ^(A)Lot with him, ^(B)to the ^[a]South. ²^(C)Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. ³And he went on his journey ^(D)from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, ⁴to the ^(E)place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram ^(F)called on the name of the Lord.

⁵Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents. ⁶Now ^(G)the land was not able to ^[b]support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together. ⁷And there was ^(H)strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. ^(I)The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land.

⁸So Abram said to Lot, ^(J)“Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. ⁹^(K)Is not the whole land before you? Please ^(L)separate from me. ^(M)If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

¹⁰And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all ^(N)the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord ^(O)destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) ^(P)like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward ^(Q)Zoar. ¹¹Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. ¹²Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot ^(R)dwelt in the cities of the plain and ^(S)pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. ¹³But the men of Sodom ^(T)were exceedingly wicked and ^(U)sinful against the Lord.

¹⁴And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot ^(V)had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—^(W)northward, southward, eastward, and westward; ¹⁵for all the land which you see ^(X)I give to you and ^(Y)your ^[c]descendants forever. ¹⁶And ^(Z)I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. ¹⁷Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”

¹⁸^(AA)Then Abram moved his tent, and went and ^(AB)dwelt by ^[d]the terebinth trees of Mamre, ^(AC)which are in Hebron, and built an ^(AD)altar there to the Lord.
