4 ¶ Y el hombre conoció a su mujer Eva, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: He ganado varón por el SEÑOR.
2 Y otra vez dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y fue Abel pastor de ovejas, y Caín fue labrador de la tierra.
3 ¶ Y aconteció andando el tiempo, que Caín trajo del fruto de la tierra presente al SEÑOR.
4 Y Abel trajo también de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, y de su grosura. Y miró el SEÑOR a Abel y a su presente;
5 y a Caín y a su presente no miró. Y se ensañó Caín en gran manera, y decayó su semblante.
6 ¶ Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué te has ensañado, y por qué se ha inmutado tu rostro?
7 Cierto que si bien hicieres, será acepto; y si no hicieres bien, a las puertas duerme el pecado, y a ti será su deseo, mas tú debes enseñorearte de él.
8 ¶ Y habló Caín a su hermano Abel; y aconteció que estando ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel, y le mató.
9 ¶ Y El SEÑOR dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está Abel tu hermano? Y él respondió: No sé; ¿soy yo guarda de mi hermano?
10 Y él le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra.
11 Ahora pues, maldito seas tú de la tierra que abrió su boca para recibir la sangre de tu hermano de tu mano:
12 Cuando labrares la tierra, no te volverá a dar su fuerza; fugitivo y vagabundo serás en la tierra.
13 ¶ Y dijo Caín al SEÑOR: Grande es mi iniquidad para ser soportada.
14 He aquí me echas hoy de la faz de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé; y seré fugitivo y vagabundo en la tierra; y será que cualquiera que me hallare, me matará.
15 Y le respondió el SEÑOR: Cierto que cualquiera que matare a Caín, siete veces será castigado. Entonces el SEÑOR puso señal en Caín, para que no lo hiriera cualquiera que le hallara.
16 ¶ Y salió Caín de delante del SEÑOR, y habitó en tierra de Nod, al oriente de Edén.
17 Y conoció Caín a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad, y llamó el nombre de la ciudad del nombre de su hijo, Enoc.
18 Y a Enoc nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mehujael, y Mehujael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec.
19 ¶ Y tomó para sí Lamec dos mujeres: el nombre de la una fue Ada, y el nombre de la otra Zila.
20 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas, y crían ganados.
21 Y el nombre de su hermano fue Jubal, el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan arpa y órgano.
22 Y Zila también dio a luz a Tubal-Caín, acicalador de toda obra de bronce y de hierro: y la hermana de Tubal-Caín fue Naama.
23 ¶ Y dijo Lamec a sus mujeres: Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz; mujeres de Lamec, escuchad mi dicho: Que varón mataré por mi herida, y un joven por mi golpe;
24 que siete veces será vengado Caín, mas Lamec setenta veces siete.
25 ¶ Y conoció aún Adán a su mujer, la cual dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Set; porque Dios (dijo ella) me ha dado otra simiente por Abel, al cual mató Caín.
26 Y a Set también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós. Entonces comenzó a ser invocado el nombre del SEÑOR.

Caín y Abel
4 El hombre tuvo relaciones sexuales con Eva, su mujer, y ella quedó embarazada y dio a luz a Caín.[a] Y dijo: «¡Con la ayuda del Señor, he tenido un varón!». 2 Después dio a luz a Abel, hermano de Caín.
Abel se dedicó a pastorear ovejas, mientras que Caín se dedicó a trabajar la tierra. 3 Tiempo después, Caín presentó al Señor una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra. 4 Abel también presentó al Señor lo mejor de su rebaño, es decir, los primogénitos con su grasa. Y el Señor miró con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda, 5 pero no miró así a Caín ni a su ofrenda. Por eso Caín se enfureció y andaba cabizbajo.
6 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «¿Por qué estás tan enojado? ¿Por qué andas cabizbajo? 7 Si hicieras lo bueno, podrías andar con la frente en alto. Pero si haces lo malo, el pecado está a la puerta para dominarte. No obstante, tú puedes dominarlo».
8 Caín habló con su hermano Abel.[b] Y cuando estaban en el campo, Caín atacó a su hermano y lo asesinó.
9 El Señor preguntó a Caín:
—¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel?
—No lo sé —respondió—. ¿Acaso soy yo el que debe cuidar a mi hermano?
10 —¡Qué has hecho! —exclamó el Señor—. Desde la tierra, la sangre de tu hermano me reclama justicia. 11 Por eso, ahora quedarás bajo la maldición de la tierra, la cual ha abierto sus fauces para recibir la sangre de tu hermano, que tú has derramado. 12 Cuando cultives la tierra, no te dará sus frutos y en el mundo serás un fugitivo errante.
13 —Este castigo es más de lo que puedo soportar —dijo Caín al Señor—. 14 Hoy me condenas al destierro y nunca más podré estar en tu presencia. Andaré por el mundo errante como un fugitivo y cualquiera que me encuentre me matará.
15 —No, al contrario[c] —respondió el Señor—, el que mate a Caín será castigado siete veces.
Entonces el Señor puso una marca a Caín para que no lo matara cualquiera que lo encontrara. 16 Así Caín se alejó de la presencia del Señor y se fue a vivir a la región llamada Nod,[d] al este del Edén.
17 Caín tuvo relaciones sexuales con su mujer, la cual quedó embarazada y dio a luz a Enoc. Caín construyó una ciudad y le puso el nombre de su hijo Enoc. 18 Enoc tuvo un hijo llamado Irad, que fue el padre de Mejuyael. Este a su vez fue el padre de Metusael, y Metusael fue el padre de Lamec.
19 Lamec tuvo dos mujeres. Una de ellas se llamaba Ada y la otra, Zila. 20 Ada dio a luz a Jabal, quien a su vez fue el antepasado de los que viven en tiendas de campaña y crían ganado. 21 Jabal tuvo un hermano llamado Jubal, quien fue el antepasado de los que tocan el arpa y la flauta. 22 Por su parte, Zila dio a luz a Tubal Caín, que fue herrero y forjador de toda clase de herramientas de bronce y de hierro. Tubal Caín tuvo una hermana que se llamaba Naamá.
23 Lamec dijo a sus mujeres Ada y Zila:
«¡Escuchen bien, mujeres de Lamec!
¡Escuchen mis palabras!
Maté a un hombre por haberme agredido
y a un muchacho por golpearme.
24 Si Caín será vengado siete veces,
setenta y siete veces será vengado Lamec».
25 Adán volvió a tener relaciones sexuales con su mujer y ella tuvo un hijo al que llamó Set,[e] porque dijo: «Dios me ha concedido otro descendiente en lugar de Abel, al que mató Caín». 26 También Set tuvo un hijo, a quien llamó Enós.
Desde entonces se comenzó a invocar el nombre del Señor.

Cain and Abel
4 Adam[a] made love to his wife(A) Eve,(B) and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[b](C) She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth[c] a man.” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.(D)
Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.(E) 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering(F) to the Lord.(G) 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions(H) from some of the firstborn of his flock.(I) The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,(J) 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry?(K) Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door;(L) it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.(M)”
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”[d] While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.(N)
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”(O)
“I don’t know,(P)” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.(Q) 11 Now you are under a curse(R) and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you.(S) You will be a restless wanderer(T) on the earth.(U)”
13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear. 14 Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence;(V) I will be a restless wanderer on the earth,(W) and whoever finds me will kill me.”(X)
15 But the Lord said to him, “Not so[e]; anyone who kills Cain(Y) will suffer vengeance(Z) seven times over.(AA)” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. 16 So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence(AB) and lived in the land of Nod,[f] east of Eden.(AC)
17 Cain made love to his wife,(AD) and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city,(AE) and he named it after his son(AF) Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.
19 Lamech married(AG) two women,(AH) one named Adah and the other Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments(AI) and pipes.(AJ) 22 Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged(AK) all kinds of tools out of[g] bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah.
23 Lamech said to his wives,
“Adah and Zillah, listen to me;
wives of Lamech, hear my words.
I have killed(AL) a man for wounding me,
a young man for injuring me.
24 If Cain is avenged(AM) seven times,(AN)
then Lamech seventy-seven times.(AO)”
25 Adam made love to his wife(AP) again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth,[h](AQ) saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.”(AR) 26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.(AS)
At that time people began to call on[i] the name of the Lord.(AT)

4 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
