18 耶和华在幔利橡树那里，向亚伯拉罕显现。那时，是一天中最热的时候，亚伯拉罕正坐在帐棚门口； 2 他举目观看，忽然看见三个人在他对面站着；亚伯拉罕看见了，就从帐棚门口跑去迎接他们，俯伏在地， 3 说：“我主啊，我若在你眼前蒙恩，求你不要离开你的仆人。 4 让我叫人拿点水来，你们可以洗洗脚，然后在树下歇一歇。 5 让我拿点饼来给你们吃，使你们可以恢复精力，然后再走，因为你们既然到了仆人这里来，就应该这样。”他们说：“就照着你所说的去作。” 6 亚伯拉罕赶快进帐棚，到撒拉那里，说：“你快拿三斗细面调和，作些饼。” 7 亚伯拉罕又跑到牛群里，牵了一头又嫩又好的牛犊，交给仆人；仆人就赶快去预备。 8 亚伯拉罕又拿了乳酪、奶和预备好的牛犊肉来，摆在他们面前。他们吃的时候，亚伯拉罕在树下侍候他们。

9 他们问亚伯拉罕：“你的妻子撒拉在哪里？”他回答：“在帐棚里。” 10 其中一位说：“到明年这个时候，我必回到你这里来。那时，你的妻子撒拉必生一个儿子。”撒拉在那人后面的帐棚门口，也听见了这话。 11 当时，亚伯拉罕和撒拉都老了，上了年纪，撒拉的月经也停止了。 12 撒拉心里暗笑，说：“现在我已经衰老了，我的丈夫也老了，我还有房事的乐趣吗？”
13 耶和华对亚伯拉罕说：“撒拉为甚么暗笑说：‘我已经老了，真的还能生育吗？’ 14 耶和华岂有难成的事吗？到明年这个时候，我要回到你这里来，那时，撒拉必生一个儿子。” 15 撒拉害怕起来，就否认，说：“我没有笑。”但那位说：“不，你实在笑了。”
16 三人就从那里起身，向着所多玛观望。亚伯拉罕与他们同行，要送他们一程。 17 耶和华说：“我要作的事，岂可瞒着亚伯拉罕呢？ 18 亚伯拉罕必要成为强大兴盛的国，地上的万国，都必因他得福。 19 我拣选了他（“拣选”直译是“认识”），是要他吩咐子孙，和他的家属，遵守我耶和华的道，秉公行义，好叫我耶和华应许亚伯拉罕的话都可实现。”
神要毁灭所多玛和蛾摩拉
20 耶和华说：“控告所多玛和蛾摩拉的声音甚大，他们的罪恶极重。 21 我现在要下去，看看他们所行的，是不是全像那声闻于我的控告；如果不是，我也会知道的。”

22 其中二人从那里动身，向所多玛走去，亚伯拉罕却仍然站在耶和华面前。 23 亚伯拉罕上前说：“你真的要把义人和恶人一同除灭吗？ 24 假如城中有五十个义人，你还真的要除灭那地方，不为城里的五十个义人而赦免那地方吗？ 25 你绝不会作这样的事：把义人与恶人一同杀死，把义人和恶人一样看待，你绝不会这样！审判全地的主，岂可不行公义吗？” 26 耶和华说：“我若在所多玛城中找到五十个义人，我就因他们的缘故，赦免那地方所有的人。” 27 亚伯拉罕回答，说：“我虽然是灰尘，还大胆地对我主说话。 28 假如这五十个义人中缺少了五个，你会因为缺少了五个就毁灭全城吗？”他说：“我若在那里找到四十五个，我也不会毁灭那城。” 29 亚伯拉罕再问他说：“假如在那里找到四十个呢？”他回答：“我因这四十个的缘故，也不这样作。” 30 亚伯拉罕说：“请我主不要动怒，容我再问：‘假如在那里找到三十个呢？’”他回答：“我若在那里找到三十个，也不这样作。” 31 亚伯拉罕说：“我再大胆地对我主说，假如在那里找到二十个呢？”他回答：“我因这二十个的缘故，也不毁灭那城。” 32 亚伯拉罕说：“请我主不要动怒，容我问这最后的一次，假如在那里找到十个呢？”他回答：“我因这十个的缘故，也不毁灭那城。” 33 耶和华与亚伯拉罕说完了话，就走了；亚伯拉罕也回到自己的地方去了。

Dios visita a Abraham
18 Ésta es la historia del día en que Dios se le apareció a Abraham cerca del bosque de Mamré. Ese día hacía tanto calor que Abraham estaba sentado a la entrada de su tienda de campaña. 2 De pronto, levantó la vista y vio a tres hombres cerca de donde él estaba. Enseguida corrió a su encuentro, y se inclinó ante ellos en señal de respeto, 3 y les dijo:
—Señores, estoy para servirles. Si creen que merezco su visita, no se vayan. Quédense aquí un rato. 4 Voy a ordenar que traigan un poco de agua, para que se laven los pies y puedan descansar bajo este árbol. 5 Voy a traerles también un poco de pan, para que recobren las fuerzas y puedan seguir su camino. ¡Ésta es su casa, y estoy para servirles!
Los tres visitantes le contestaron:
—Está muy bien. Haz todo lo que dijiste.
6 Abraham entró corriendo a la tienda donde estaba Sara, y le dijo: «¡Date prisa! Toma unos veinte kilos de la mejor harina, y ponte a hacer pan».
7 Luego fue al corral, tomó el más gordo de sus terneros, y se lo dio a un sirviente para que lo preparara enseguida. 8 Además del ternero, Abraham les ofreció a sus invitados mantequilla y leche. Mientras ellos comían, Abraham se quedó de pie bajo un árbol, atento para servirles.
9 Los visitantes le preguntaron:
—¿Y dónde está tu esposa?
Abraham les respondió:
—Está dentro de la tienda.
10 Uno de ellos le dijo:
—El año que viene volveré a visitarte, y para entonces tu esposa ya será madre de un hijo.
Sara estaba a la entrada de la tienda, detrás de Abraham, escuchando lo que decían. 11 Abraham y Sara ya eran muy ancianos, y Sara no estaba ya en edad de tener hijos, 12 así que ella se rió y dijo entre dientes: «Eso sería muy bonito, pero mi esposo y yo estamos muy viejos para tener un hijo».
13 Entonces Dios le dijo a Abraham:
—¿De qué se ríe Sara? ¿Acaso no cree que puede ser madre, a pesar de su edad? 14 ¿Hay algo que yo no pueda hacer? El año que viene, por estos días, volveré a visitarte, y para entonces Sara ya será madre.
15 Al oír esto, Sara sintió miedo. Por eso mintió y aseguró:
—No me estaba riendo.
Sin embargo, Dios le dijo:
—Yo sé bien que te reíste.
Abraham ruega por Sodoma
16 Los visitantes se levantaron para seguir su camino a la ciudad de Sodoma. Abraham los acompañó por un rato para despedirlos. 17 Pero Dios pensó:
«No puedo ocultarle a Abraham lo que voy a hacer, 18 porque sus descendientes formarán una nación grande y poderosa. Por medio de ellos todas las naciones de la tierra van a ser bendecidas. 19 Para eso lo elegí, para que les ordene a sus hijos y a toda su familia que me obedezcan, y que hagan lo que es bueno y justo. Si Abraham lo hace así, yo cumpliré con todo lo que le he prometido».
20 Entonces Dios le dijo a Abraham:
—Ya son muchas las quejas que hay en contra de Sodoma y Gomorra. Ya es mucho lo que han pecado. 21 Iré allá y veré con mis propios ojos si es verdad todo lo que me han dicho.
22 Los visitantes de Abraham se apartaron de allí y se fueron a Sodoma. Sin embargo, Abraham se quedó ante Dios, 23 y acercándose a él le dijo:
—No me digas que vas a matar a los buenos junto con los malos. 24 Supongamos que en la ciudad se encuentran cincuenta personas buenas. ¿No perdonarías, por esas cincuenta personas, a todos los que allí viven? 25 ¡Tú eres el juez de toda la tierra! ¡Tú no puedes matar a los que hacen lo bueno junto con los que hacen lo malo! ¡Tú eres un Dios justo!
26 Y Dios le contestó:
—Si encuentro en Sodoma cincuenta personas buenas, por ellas perdonaré a toda la ciudad.
27 Pero Abraham volvió a decir:
—Dios mío, perdona mi atrevimiento de hablar contigo, pues ante ti no soy nada. 28 Pero, ¿qué pasará si en toda la ciudad sólo hay cuarenta y cinco personas buenas? ¿Destruirás de todos modos la ciudad?
Dios respondió:
—Si encuentro esas cuarenta y cinco personas, no la destruiré.
29 Una vez más, Abraham dijo:
—¿Y qué tal si sólo encuentras cuarenta?
Dios le aseguró:
—Por esos cuarenta, no destruiré la ciudad.
30 Pero Abraham insistió:
—Dios mío, no te enojes conmigo si sigo hablando; pero, ¿qué pasará si no hay más que treinta personas buenas?
Y Dios le dijo:
—Si encuentro esas treinta personas, no destruiré la ciudad.
31 Abraham volvió a insistir:
—Dios mío, realmente soy muy atrevido, pero ¿si sólo se encuentran veinte?
Dios respondió:
—Hasta por esos veinte, no destruiré la ciudad.
32 De nuevo dijo Abraham:
—Yo te ruego, Dios mío, que no te enojes conmigo, pero sólo insistiré una vez más. ¿Y qué tal si sólo se encuentran diez?
Y Dios le aseguró:
—Por esos diez, no destruiré la ciudad.
33 Luego de hablar con Abraham, Dios se fue de allí. Abraham, por su parte, regresó a su tienda de campaña.

18 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
17 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
20 And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.
23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26 And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.
30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.
32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
33 And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
