14 以色列王约哈斯的儿子约阿施在位第二年，犹大王约阿施的儿子亚玛谢登基作王。 2 他登基的时候是二十五岁，在耶路撒冷作王共二十九年。他母亲名叫约耶但，是从耶路撒冷来的。 3 他行耶和华看为正的事；只是不像他的祖先大卫，却是照着他父亲约阿施所行的一切去行。 4 只是邱坛还没有废去，人民仍在邱坛献祭焚香。 5 当国家在他手中稳定以后，他就把那些击杀他父王的臣仆杀了。
6 但他们的儿子没有处死，这是按照摩西律法书上所写，是耶和华的吩咐：“不可因儿子的罪处死父亲，也不可因父亲的罪处死儿子；各人要因自己的罪而死。” 7 他在盐谷击杀了一万以东人，又攻取了西拉，然后把它的名字改称为约帖，直到今日。

11 但是亚玛谢不听他的话。于是以色列王约阿施上来，和犹大王亚玛谢在属犹大的伯．示麦相见。 12 犹大人被以色列人击败，各人逃回自己的家去了。 13 以色列王约阿施在伯．示麦捉住了亚哈谢的孙子、约阿施的儿子犹大王亚玛谢。他们来到耶路撒冷，拆毁了耶路撒冷一段城墙，从以法莲门直到角门，共两百公尺。 14 又掠去耶和华殿里和王宫的宝库里找到的所有金子、银子和一切器皿，还有人质，就回撒玛利亚去了。

Amaziah Reigns in Judah(A)
14 In (B)the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, (C)Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, became king. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 3 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like his father David; he did everything (D)as his father Joash had done. 4 (E)However the [a]high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
5 Now it happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he executed his servants (F)who had murdered his father the king. 6 But the children of the murderers he did not execute, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, in which the Lord commanded, saying, (G)“Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; but a person shall be put to death for his own sin.”
7 (H)He killed ten thousand Edomites in (I)the Valley of Salt, and took [b]Sela by war, (J)and called its name Joktheel to this day.
8 (K)Then Amaziah sent messengers to [c]Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us face one another in battle.” 9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, (L)“The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the (M)cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. 10 You have indeed defeated Edom, and (N)your heart has [d]lifted you up. Glory in that, and stay at home; for why should you meddle with trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
11 But Amaziah would not heed. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went out; so he and Amaziah king of Judah faced one another at (O)Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 12 And Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled to his tent. 13 Then Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh; and he went to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from (P)the Gate of Ephraim to (Q)the Corner Gate—[e]four hundred cubits. 14 And he took all (R)the gold and silver, all the articles that were found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15 (S)Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did—his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 16 So Jehoash [f]rested with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Then Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.
17 (T)Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 19 And (U)they formed a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to (V)Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there. 20 Then they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.
21 And all the people of Judah took (W)Azariah,[g] who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah. 22 He built (X)Elath[h] and restored it to Judah, after [i]the king rested with his fathers.
Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, became king in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years. 24 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from all the (Y)sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. 25 He (Z)restored the [j]territory of Israel (AA)from the entrance of Hamath to (AB)the[k] Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which He had spoken through His servant (AC)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet who was from (AD)Gath Hepher. 26 For the Lord (AE)saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter; and whether bond or free, (AF)there was no helper for Israel. 27 (AG)And the Lord did not say that He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did—his might, how he made war, and how he recaptured for Israel, from (AH)Damascus and Hamath, (AI)what had belonged to Judah—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 29 So Jeroboam [l]rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. Then (AJ)Zechariah his son reigned in his place.

Amaziah’s Demise
14 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah became king. 2 He was 25 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 29 years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 3 Now he did what was right in the eyes of Adonai, yet not like his father David—he did like all his father Joash had done. 4 Still, the high places were not taken away. The people were still sacrificing and burning incense in the high places.
5 Once the kingdom was established in his hand, he killed his courtiers who had assassinated his father the king. 6 However, he did not execute the children of the assassins, keeping what is written in the Torah of Moses, where Adonai commanded saying, “The fathers will not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but each one will be put to death for his own sin.”
7 He struck down 10,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt, captured Sela in the battle, and renamed it Joktheel, as it is to this day.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come! Let’s meet face to face.”
9 But King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying, “The briar in Lebanon sent word to the cedar in Lebanon saying: ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild beast in Lebanon passed by and trampled down the briar. 10 You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has become arrogant. Glory and stay at home! Why should you provoke trouble and cause your own downfall—you and Judah with you?”
11 But Amaziah would not listen. So King Jehoash of Israel advanced, and he and Amaziah king of Judah confronted each other at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 12 Judah was routed before Israel—they fled every man to his home. 13 King Jehoash of Israel captured King Amaziah of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh. Then Jehoash advanced to Jerusalem and breached the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—400 cubits. 14 He also took all the gold and silver and all the articles that were found in the House of Adonai and in the treasuries of the royal palace, as well as hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 16 Then Jehoash slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Then his son Jeroboam became king in his place.
17 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 19 They conspired against him in Jerusalem, so he fled to Lachish, but they sent men after him to Lachish and assassinated him there. 20 Then they brought his body back on horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and proclaimed him king in place of his father Amaziah. 22 It was he who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah after the previous king slept with his fathers.
23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and he reigned 41 years. 24 But he did what was evil in Adonai’s eyes. He did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he caused Israel to commit. 25 It was he who restored Israel’s border from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, as was the word of Adonai, God of Israel, which He spoke by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.
26 For Adonai saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter and spared no one—whether bond or free—nor was there a helper for Israel. 27 But Adonai did not say He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, so He delivered them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash. 28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam and all that he did, and his might, including how he fought and recovered Damascus and Hamath for Judah in Israel, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 29 Then Jeroboam slept with his fathers with the kings of Israel. His son Zechariah became king in his place.
