Jehoahaz King of Israel
13 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years. 2 He did evil(A) in the eyes of the Lord by following the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit, and he did not turn away from them. 3 So the Lord’s anger(B) burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power(C) of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad(D) his son.
4 Then Jehoahaz sought(E) the Lord’s favor, and the Lord listened to him, for he saw(F) how severely the king of Aram was oppressing(G) Israel. 5 The Lord provided a deliverer(H) for Israel, and they escaped from the power of Aram. So the Israelites lived in their own homes as they had before. 6 But they did not turn away from the sins(I) of the house of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit; they continued in them. Also, the Asherah pole[a](J) remained standing in Samaria.
7 Nothing had been left(K) of the army of Jehoahaz except fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest and made them like the dust(L) at threshing time.
8 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoahaz, all he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Jehoash[b] his son succeeded him as king.
Jehoash King of Israel
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he continued in them.
12 As for the other events of the reign of Jehoash, all he did and his achievements, including his war against Amaziah(M) king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals(N) of the kings of Israel? 13 Jehoash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam(O) succeeded him on the throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. “My father! My father!” he cried. “The chariots(P) and horsemen of Israel!”
15 Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,”(Q) and he did so. 16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.
17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!”(R) Elisha said, and he shot. “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.”(S)
18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.”(T)
20 Elisha died and was buried.
Now Moabite raiders(U) used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life(V) and stood up on his feet.
22 Hazael king of Aram oppressed(W) Israel throughout the reign of Jehoahaz. 23 But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant(X) with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To this day he has been unwilling to destroy(Y) them or banish them from his presence.(Z)
24 Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben-Hadad(AA) his son succeeded him as king. 25 Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured from Ben-Hadad son of Hazael the towns he had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Three times(AB) Jehoash defeated him, and so he recovered(AC) the Israelite towns.

3 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4 And Jehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)

16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.
17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

13 Nang ikadalawampu't tatlong taon nang paghahari sa Juda ni Joas na anak ni Ahazias, nagsimula namang maghari sa Israel si Jehoahaz na anak ni Jehu. Naghari siya sa Samaria sa loob ng labimpitong taon. 2 Ginawa rin niya ang mga bagay na hindi kalugud-lugod kay Yahweh. Sinundan rin niya ang mga masasamang gawain ni Jeroboam na anak ni Nebat, na nanguna sa Israel para magkasala. 14 Si(A) Eliseo ay nagkasakit nang malubha at dinalaw siya ni Haring Jehoas ng Israel. Lumuluha nitong sinabi, “Ama ko, ama ko! Magiting na tagapagtanggol ng Israel!”
15 Iniutos ni Eliseo sa hari, “Kumuha ka ng pana at mga palaso.” Kumuha naman si Jehoas. Muling nag-utos si Eliseo, “Humanda ka sa pagtudla.” 16 Sinabi uli ni Eliseo, “Banatin mo ang pana.” Binanat ng hari ang pana at ipinatong ni Eliseo sa kamay ni Jehoas ang kanyang mga kamay. 17 Pagkatapos, iniutos ni Eliseo, “Buksan mo ang bintanang nakaharap sa Siria at itudla mo ang palaso.” Sinunod naman ito ni Jehoas. Sinabi ni Eliseo, “Iyan ang palaso ng tagumpay ni Yahweh laban sa mga taga-Siria. Lalabanan mo sila sa Afec hanggang sa sila'y malipol. 18 Ngayon, kumuha ka muli ng mga palaso at itudla mo sa lupa.” Sumunod muli si Jehoas. Tatlong beses siyang tumudla sa lupa. 19 Dahil dito'y pagalit na sinabi ni Eliseo, “Bakit tatlong beses ka lamang tumudla? Sana'y lima o anim na beses para lubusan mong malupig ang Siria. Sa ginawa mong iyan, tatlong beses ka lang magtatagumpay laban sa Siria.”
20 Namatay si Eliseo at inilibing.
Nang panahong iyon, nakagawian na ng mga Moabita na salakayin ang Israel taun-taon tuwing tagsibol. 21 Minsan, may mga Israelitang naglilibing ng isang lalaki. Walang anu-ano, may natanawan silang pangkat ng mga tulisan na palapit sa kanila. Kaya't sa pagmamadali ay naitapon na lamang nila ang bangkay sa libingan ni Eliseo. Nang ito'y sumayad sa kalansay ni Eliseo, nabuhay ang bangkay at bumangon.
Ang Digmaan ng Israel at Siria
22 Ang Israel ay pinahirapan ni Haring Hazael ng Siria sa buong panahon ng paghahari ni Jehoahaz. 23 Ngunit kinahabagan sila ni Yahweh dahil sa kasunduan niya kina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob. Kaya hanggang ngayo'y hindi niya ito hinayaang lubusang nililipol ni pinababayaan man.
24 Nang mamatay si Haring Hazael ng Siria, ang anak niyang si Ben-hadad ang humalili sa kanya. 25 Tatlong beses siyang natalo ni Jehoas at nabawi nito ang lahat ng bayan ng Israel na nasakop ni Hazael sa panahon ng paghahari ni Jehoahaz na ama ni Jehoas.

Muling nag-utos si Eliseo, “Humanda ka sa pagtudla.” 16 Sinabi uli ni Eliseo, “Banatin mo ang pana.” Binanat ng hari ang pana at ipinatong ni Eliseo sa kamay ni Jehoas ang kanyang mga kamay. 17 Pagkatapos, iniutos ni Eliseo, “Buksan mo ang bintanang nakaharap sa Siria at itudla mo ang palaso.” Sinunod naman ito ni Jehoas. Sinabi ni Eliseo, “Iyan ang palaso ng tagumpay ni Yahweh laban sa mga taga-Siria. Lalabanan mo sila sa Afec hanggang sa sila'y malipol. 18 Ngayon, kumuha ka muli ng mga palaso at itudla mo sa lupa.” Sumunod muli si Jehoas. Tatlong beses siyang tumudla sa lupa. 19 Dahil dito'y pagalit na sinabi ni Eliseo, “Bakit tatlong beses ka lamang tumudla? Sana'y lima o anim na beses para lubusan mong malupig ang Siria. Sa ginawa mong iyan, tatlong beses ka lang magtatagumpay laban sa Siria.”
20 Namatay si Eliseo at inilibing.
Nang panahong iyon, nakagawian na ng mga Moabita na salakayin ang Israel taun-taon tuwing tagsibol. 21 Minsan, may mga Israelitang naglilibing ng isang lalaki. Walang anu-ano, may natanawan silang pangkat ng mga tulisan na palapit sa kanila. Kaya't sa pagmamadali ay naitapon na lamang nila ang bangkay sa libingan ni Eliseo. Nang ito'y sumayad sa kalansay ni Eliseo, nabuhay ang bangkay at bumangon.
Ang Digmaan ng Israel at Siria
22 Ang Israel ay pinahirapan ni Haring Hazael ng Siria sa buong panahon ng paghahari ni Jehoahaz. 23 Ngunit kinahabagan sila ni Yahweh dahil sa kasunduan niya kina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob. Kaya hanggang ngayo'y hindi niya ito hinayaang lubusang nililipol ni pinababayaan man.
24 Nang mamatay si Haring Hazael ng Siria, ang anak niyang si Ben-hadad ang humalili sa kanya. 25 Tatlong beses siyang natalo ni Jehoas at nabawi nito ang lahat ng bayan ng Israel na nasakop ni Hazael sa panahon ng paghahari ni Jehoahaz na ama ni Jehoas.
