²⁵“以色列的上帝耶和华啊，你曾对你仆人——我父大卫说，‘你的子孙若像你一样谨慎行事、遵行我的旨意，你的王朝就不会中断。’求你信守这应许。 ²⁶以色列的上帝耶和华啊，求你实现你向你仆人——我父大卫的应许。

²⁷“然而，上帝啊，你真的会住在人间吗？看啊，诸天尚且不够你居住，更何况我建造的这殿呢？

²⁵Therefore now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.

²⁶And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.

²⁷But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

²⁵“Now Lord, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises^(A) you made to him when you said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me faithfully as you have done.’ ²⁶And now, God of Israel, let your word that you promised^(B) your servant David my father come true.

²⁷“But will God really dwell^(C) on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven,^(D) cannot contain^(E) you. How much less this temple I have built!
