4 Entonces Moisés respondió diciendo: He aquí que ellos no me creerán, ni oirán mi voz; porque dirán: No te ha aparecido Jehová. 2 Y Jehová dijo: ¿Qué es eso que tienes en tu mano? Y él respondió: Una vara. 3 Él le dijo: Échala en tierra. Y él la echó en tierra, y se hizo una culebra; y Moisés huía de ella. 4 Entonces dijo Jehová a Moisés: Extiende tu mano, y tómala por la cola. Y él extendió su mano, y la tomó, y se volvió vara en su mano. 5 Por esto creerán que se te ha aparecido Jehová, el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob.
6 Le dijo además Jehová: Mete ahora tu mano en tu seno. Y él metió la mano en su seno; y cuando la sacó, he aquí que su mano estaba leprosa como la nieve. 7 Y dijo: Vuelve a meter tu mano en tu seno. Y él volvió a meter su mano en su seno; y al sacarla de nuevo del seno, he aquí que se había vuelto como la otra carne. 8 Si aconteciere que no te creyeren ni obedecieren a la voz de la primera señal, creerán a la voz de la postrera. 9 Y si aún no creyeren a estas dos señales, ni oyeren tu voz, tomarás de las aguas del río y las derramarás en tierra; y se cambiarán aquellas aguas que tomarás del río y se harán sangre en la tierra.
10 Entonces dijo Moisés a Jehová: ¡Ay, Señor! nunca he sido hombre de fácil palabra, ni antes, ni desde que tú hablas a tu siervo; porque soy tardo en el habla y torpe de lengua. 11 Y Jehová le respondió: ¿Quién dio la boca al hombre? ¿o quién hizo al mudo y al sordo, al que ve y al ciego? ¿No soy yo Jehová? 12 Ahora pues, ve, y yo estaré con tu boca, y te enseñaré lo que hayas de hablar. 13 Y él dijo: ¡Ay, Señor! envía, te ruego, por medio del que debes enviar. 14 Entonces Jehová se enojó contra Moisés, y dijo: ¿No conozco yo a tu hermano Aarón, levita, y que él habla bien? Y he aquí que él saldrá a recibirte, y al verte se alegrará en su corazón. 15 Tú hablarás a él, y pondrás en su boca las palabras, y yo estaré con tu boca y con la suya, y os enseñaré lo que hayáis de hacer. 16 Y él hablará por ti al pueblo; él te será a ti en lugar de boca, y tú serás para él en lugar de Dios. 17 Y tomarás en tu mano esta vara, con la cual harás las señales.
Moisés vuelve a Egipto
18 Así se fue Moisés, y volviendo a su suegro Jetro, le dijo: Iré ahora, y volveré a mis hermanos que están en Egipto, para ver si aún viven. Y Jetro dijo a Moisés: Ve en paz. 19 Dijo también Jehová a Moisés en Madián: Ve y vuélvete a Egipto, porque han muerto todos los que procuraban tu muerte. 20 Entonces Moisés tomó su mujer y sus hijos, y los puso sobre un asno, y volvió a tierra de Egipto. Tomó también Moisés la vara de Dios en su mano. 21 Y dijo Jehová a Moisés: Cuando hayas vuelto a Egipto, mira que hagas delante de Faraón todas las maravillas que he puesto en tu mano; pero yo endureceré su corazón, de modo que no dejará ir al pueblo. 22 Y dirás a Faraón: Jehová ha dicho así: Israel es mi hijo, mi primogénito. 23 Ya te he dicho que dejes ir a mi hijo, para que me sirva, mas no has querido dejarlo ir; he aquí yo voy a matar a tu hijo, tu primogénito.(A)
24 Y aconteció en el camino, que en una posada Jehová le salió al encuentro, y quiso matarlo. 25 Entonces Séfora tomó un pedernal afilado y cortó el prepucio de su hijo, y lo echó a sus pies, diciendo: A la verdad tú me eres un esposo de sangre. 26 Así le dejó luego ir. Y ella dijo: Esposo de sangre, a causa de la circuncisión.
27 Y Jehová dijo a Aarón: Ve a recibir a Moisés al desierto. Y él fue, y lo encontró en el monte de Dios, y le besó. 28 Entonces contó Moisés a Aarón todas las palabras de Jehová que le enviaba, y todas las señales que le había dado. 29 Y fueron Moisés y Aarón, y reunieron a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel. 30 Y habló Aarón acerca de todas las cosas que Jehová había dicho a Moisés, e hizo las señales delante de los ojos del pueblo. 31 Y el pueblo creyó; y oyendo que Jehová había visitado a los hijos de Israel, y que había visto su aflicción, se inclinaron y adoraron.

Mose får makt att göra under
4 Mose svarade: "Men om de inte tror mig och inte lyssnar på mina ord utan säger: Herren har inte uppenbarat sig för dig?" 2 Då sade Herren till honom: "Vad är det du har i handen?" 3 Han svarade: "En stav." Han sade: "Kasta den på marken!" När han då kastade den på marken förvandlades den till en orm, och Mose flydde för den. 4 Men Herren sade till Mose: "Räck ut handen och tag den i stjärten." Då räckte han ut handen och grep ormen, och den förvandlades åter till en stav i hans hand. 5 Herren sade: "Genom detta skall de tro att Herren, deras fäders Gud, Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud och Jakobs Gud, har uppenbarat sig för dig."
6 Herren sade ytterligare till honom: "Stick in handen i barmen!" Han gjorde så, och när han drog ut handen, se, då var den vit som snö av spetälska. 7 Sedan sade Gud: "Stick tillbaka handen i barmen!" Mose gjorde så, och när han drog ut den igen, se, då var den på nytt som hans övriga kropp. 8 Och Herren sade: "Om de inte tror dig eller ger akt på det första tecknet, så måste de tro på det andra tecknet. 9 Men om de inte ens tror på dessa två tecken eller lyssnar till dina ord, tag då av Nilens vatten och häll ut det på torra marken. Vattnet som du tagit ur floden skall då förvandlas till blod på torra marken."
10 Då sade Mose till Herren: "Men Herre, jag är ingen talför man. Jag har inte varit det tidigare, och jag är det inte heller nu sedan du har talat till din tjänare. Jag är trög att tala och har en trög tunga." 11 Herren sade till honom: "Vem har givit människan munnen och vem gör henne stum eller döv, seende eller blind? Är det inte jag, Herren? 12 Gå nu! Jag skall vara med din mun och lära dig vad du skall säga." 13 Men Mose sade: "Herre, jag ber dig: Sänd ditt budskap med vilken annan du vill." 14 Då upptändes Herrens vrede mot Mose och han sade: "Har du inte din bror Aron, leviten? Jag vet att han är en man som kan tala. Och se, han är på väg för att möta dig, och när han får se dig skall han känna glädje i sitt hjärta. 15 Du skall tala till honom och lägga orden i hans mun. Och jag skall vara med din mun och hans mun, och jag skall lära er vad ni skall göra. 16 Han skall tala i ditt ställe till folket. Han skall vara som en mun för dig, och du skall vara som Gud för honom. 17 Du skall ta den här staven i handen, och med den skall du göra dina tecken."
Mose återvänder till Egypten
18 Mose återvände till sin svärfar Jetro och sade till honom: "Låt mig vända tillbaka till mina bröder i Egypten för att se om de lever än." Jetro sade till Mose: "Gå i frid!" 19 Och när Mose var i Midjan sade Herren till honom: "Vänd åter till Egypten, ty alla de män som stod efter ditt liv är döda." 20 Då tog Mose sin hustru och sina söner och satte dem på sin åsna och vände tillbaka till Egyptens land. Och Mose tog Guds stav i handen.
21 Herren sade till Mose: "När du vänder åter till Egypten, se då till att du inför farao gör alla de under som jag har givit dig makt att utföra. Men jag skall göra honom hård till sinnes så att han inte släpper folket. 22 Du skall säga till farao: Så säger Herren: Israel är min förstfödde son, 23 och jag har sagt till dig: Släpp min son, så att han kan hålla gudstjänst åt mig. Men du har inte velat släppa honom. Se, därför skall jag döda din förstfödde son."
24 Under resan hände det på ett viloställe att Herren kom emot Mose och ville döda honom. 25 Då tog Sippora en vass flintsten och skar bort sin sons förhud, vidrörde Moses fötter med den och sade: "Du är en blodsbrudgum för mig." 26 Och Herren lät honom vara. Det var med tanke på omskärelsen som hon sade "blodsbrudgum".
27 Och Herren sade till Aron: "Gå och möt Mose ute i öknen!" Han gav sig i väg och mötte Mose på Guds berg, och han kysste honom. 28 Och Mose berättade för Aron allt som Herren hade talat när han sände honom, och om alla de tecken som han hade befallt honom att göra. 29 Sedan gick Mose och Aron och kallade samman alla de äldste av Israels barn. 30 Och Aron talade om allt vad Herren hade sagt till Mose, och han gjorde tecknen inför folkets ögon. 31 Då trodde folket, och när de hörde att Herren hade tagit sig an Israels barn och sett deras lidande, böjde de sig ner och tillbad.

Miraculous Signs for Pharaoh
4 Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”
2 So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
He said, “A rod.”
3 And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), 5 “that they may (A)believe that the (B)Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”
6 Furthermore the Lord said to him, “Now put your hand in your bosom.” And he put his hand in his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, (C)like snow. 7 And He said, “Put your hand in your bosom again.” So he put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, (D)it was restored like his other flesh. 8 “Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the (E)first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign. 9 And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you shall take water from [a]the river and pour it on the dry land. (F)The water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land.”
10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but (G)I am slow of speech and [b]slow of tongue.”
11 So the Lord said to him, (H)“Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore, go, and I will be (I)with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”
13 But he said, “O my Lord, (J)please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.”
14 So (K)the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite your (L)brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, (M)he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 15 Now (N)you shall speak to him and (O)put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and (P)I will teach you what you shall do. 16 So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and (Q)you shall be to him as God. 17 And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.”
Moses Goes to Egypt
18 So Moses went and returned to (R)Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.”
And Jethro said to Moses, (S)“Go in peace.”
19 Now the Lord said to Moses in (T)Midian, “Go, return to (U)Egypt; for all the men who (V)sought your life are dead.” 20 Then Moses (W)took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took (X)the rod of God in his hand.
21 And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those (Y)wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But (Z)I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then you shall (AA)say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: (AB)“Israel is My son, (AC)My firstborn. 23 So I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed (AD)I will kill your son, your firstborn.” ’ ”
24 And it came to pass on the way, at the (AE)encampment, that the Lord (AF)met him and sought to (AG)kill him. 25 Then (AH)Zipporah took (AI)a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and [c]cast it at [d]Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!” 26 So He let him go. Then she said, “You are a [e]husband of blood!”—because of the circumcision.
27 And the Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness (AJ)to meet Moses.” So he went and met him on (AK)the mountain of God, and kissed him. 28 So Moses (AL)told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the (AM)signs which He had commanded him. 29 Then Moses and Aaron (AN)went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 30 (AO)And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people. 31 So the people (AP)believed; and when they heard that the Lord had (AQ)visited the children of Israel and that He (AR)had looked on their affliction, then (AS)they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Signs for Moses
4 Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen(A) to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A staff,”(B) he replied.
3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”
Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake,(C) and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe(D) that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
6 Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[a]—it had become as white as snow.(E)
7 “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored,(F) like the rest of his flesh.
8 Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe(G) you or pay attention to the first sign,(H) they may believe the second. 9 But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood(I) on the ground.”
10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”(J)
11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute?(K) Who gives them sight or makes them blind?(L) Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go;(M) I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”(N)
13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”(O)
14 Then the Lord’s anger burned(P) against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet(Q) you, and he will be glad to see you. 15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth;(R) I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. 16 He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth(S) and as if you were God to him.(T) 17 But take this staff(U) in your hand(V) so you can perform the signs(W) with it.”
Moses Returns to Egypt
18 Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.”
Jethro said, “Go, and I wish you well.”
19 Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill(X) you are dead.(Y)” 20 So Moses took his wife and sons,(Z) put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff(AA) of God in his hand.
21 The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders(AB) I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart(AC) so that he will not let the people go.(AD) 22 Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son,(AE) 23 and I told you, “Let my son go,(AF) so he may worship(AG) me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’”(AH)
24 At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses[b] and was about to kill(AI) him. 25 But Zipporah(AJ) took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin(AK) and touched Moses’ feet with it.[c] “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. 26 So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)
27 The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he met Moses at the mountain(AL) of God and kissed(AM) him. 28 Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform.
29 Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders(AN) of the Israelites, 30 and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs(AO) before the people, 31 and they believed.(AP) And when they heard that the Lord was concerned(AQ) about them and had seen their misery,(AR) they bowed down and worshiped.(AS)

8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.
24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.
28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:
30 And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
