24 百姓就向摩西发怨言,说:“我们喝什么呢?” 25 摩西呼求耶和华,耶和华指示他一棵树[a]。他把树丢在水里,水就变甜了。

耶和华在那里为他们定了律例、典章,在那里考验他们。 26 他说:“你若留心听从耶和华—你 神的话,行我眼中看为正的事,侧耳听我的诫令,遵守我一切的律例,我就不将所加于埃及人的疾病加在你身上,因为我是医治你的耶和华。”

24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

24 So the people grumbled(A) against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”(B)

25 Then Moses cried out(C) to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw(D) it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.

There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.(E) 26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep(F) all his decrees,(G) I will not bring on you any of the diseases(H) I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals(I) you.”
