上帝賜摩西能力
4 摩西回答說：「他們不會相信我或聽我的話，他們會說，『耶和華根本沒有向你顯現。』」 2 耶和華對摩西說：「你手裡拿的是什麼？」摩西說：「是一根手杖。」 3 耶和華說：「把它丟在地上！」於是，摩西把杖丟在地上，杖變成了一條蛇。摩西連忙跑開。 4 耶和華說：「你伸手抓住牠的尾巴！」摩西就伸手抓蛇的尾巴，蛇在他手中變回了杖。 5 耶和華說：「這樣，他們就會相信他們祖先的上帝耶和華，就是亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的上帝，曾經向你顯現。」
6 耶和華又說：「把手放進懷裡。」摩西把手放進懷裡，手抽出來的時候，竟患了痲瘋病，像雪一樣白。 7 耶和華說：「再把手放進懷裡。」摩西又把手放進懷裡，這次再抽出來的時候，手已經復原，跟其他地方的皮肉一樣。 8 耶和華說：「縱然他們不聽你的話，不信第一個神蹟，也必定相信第二個神蹟。 9 如果他們兩個神蹟都不相信，還是不聽你的話，你就從尼羅河裡取些水來倒在旱地上，那水就會在旱地上變成血。」
10 摩西對耶和華說：「主啊！我向來不善言辭，即使你對僕人說話以後，我還是不善言辭，因為我是個拙口笨舌的人。」 11 耶和華對他說：「是誰造人的口舌？是誰使人變成啞巴或聾子？是誰使人目明或眼瞎？不都是我耶和華嗎？ 12 去吧！我必賜給你口才，指示你說什麼話。」 13 但是摩西說：「主啊，請派其他人去吧。」 14 耶和華向摩西發怒說：「利未人亞倫不是你哥哥嗎？他是個能言善辯的人，正要來迎接你。他見到你一定很歡喜。 15 你要把該說的話傳給他，我會賜你們口才，教你們如何行事。 16 他要替你向百姓說話，做你的發言人，你對他來說就像上帝一樣。 17 你要把手杖帶在身邊，以便行神蹟。」
18 摩西回到家裡，對他的岳父葉忒羅說：「求你讓我回埃及去探望我的親人，看看他們是否在世。」葉忒羅說：「你平安地去吧。」 19 耶和華在米甸對摩西說：「你只管放心回埃及去，想害你性命的人都已經死了。」 20 於是，摩西拿著上帝的杖，帶著妻子和兒子騎驢返回埃及。 21 耶和華對摩西說：「你到了埃及，見到法老的時候，務要照我賜給你的能力在法老面前行神蹟。但我要使他的心剛硬，他必不讓百姓離開。 22 那時，你就告訴法老，『耶和華說，以色列是我的長子， 23 我對你說過讓我的長子出去事奉我，但你執意不肯。看啊，我要殺你的長子。』」
24 摩西在途中夜宿的時候，耶和華遇見摩西，想要殺他。 25 他的妻子西坡拉拿起鋒利的火石，割下兒子的包皮，放在摩西腳前，說：「你真是我的血郎。」 26 這樣，耶和華才沒殺他。當時，西坡拉說「血郎」是指割禮一事。
27 耶和華對亞倫說：「你到曠野去迎接摩西。」他就在上帝的山上遇見摩西，並親吻他。 28 摩西把耶和華吩咐他的以及要他行的神蹟都告訴了亞倫。 29 摩西和亞倫一起回去招聚以色列的眾長老， 30 亞倫把耶和華對摩西的吩咐詳細地告訴他們。摩西又在百姓面前行了那些神蹟， 31 百姓相信了。以色列人聽見耶和華眷顧他們、看到了他們的苦難，都俯伏敬拜祂。

Le obiezioni di Mosè
4 (A)*Mosè rispose e disse: «Ma ecco, essi non mi crederanno e non ubbidiranno alla mia voce, perché diranno: “Il Signore non ti è apparso”».
2 Il Signore gli disse: «Che cos'è quello che hai in mano?» Egli rispose: «Un bastone». 3 Il Signore disse: «Gettalo a terra». Egli lo gettò a terra ed esso diventò un serpente; Mosè fuggí davanti a quello. 4 Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la tua mano e prendilo per la coda». Egli stese la mano, lo prese ed esso ritornò un bastone nella sua mano. 5 «Farai questo», disse il Signore, «affinché credano che il Signore, il Dio dei loro padri, il Dio d'*Abraamo, il Dio d'*Isacco e il Dio di *Giacobbe ti è apparso».
6 Il Signore gli disse ancora: «Mettiti la mano nel petto». Egli si mise la mano nel petto; e, quando la tirò fuori, ecco che la mano era *lebbrosa, bianca come la neve. 7 Il Signore gli disse: «Rimettiti la mano nel petto». Egli si rimise la mano nel petto; e, quando la tirò fuori, ecco che era ritornata come il resto della sua carne. 8 «Avverrà», disse il Signore, «che, se non ti crederanno e non daranno ascolto alla testimonianza del primo segno, crederanno a quella del secondo segno. 9 Se non crederanno neppure a questi due segni e non ubbidiranno alla tua voce, tu prenderai dell'acqua del Fiume, la verserai sull'asciutto, e l'acqua che avrai presa dal Fiume diventerà sangue sull'asciutto».
10 Mosè disse al Signore: «Ahimè, Signore, io non sono un oratore; non lo ero in passato e non lo sono da quando tu hai parlato al tuo servo; poiché io sono lento di parola e di lingua». 11 Il Signore gli disse: «Chi ha fatto la bocca dell'uomo? Chi rende muto o sordo o veggente o cieco? Non sono io, il Signore? 12 Ora dunque va', io sarò con la tua bocca e t'insegnerò quello che dovrai dire». 13 Mosè disse: «Ti prego, Signore, manda il tuo messaggio per mezzo di chi vorrai!» 14 Allora l'ira del Signore si accese contro Mosè ed egli disse: «Non c'è *Aaronne tuo fratello, il *Levita? Io so che parla bene. E, per l'appunto, egli esce a incontrarti; e, quando ti vedrà, si rallegrerà in cuor suo. 15 Tu gli parlerai e gli metterai le parole in bocca. Io sarò con la tua bocca e con la sua bocca e vi insegnerò quello che dovrete fare. 16 Egli parlerà per te al popolo; cosí ti servirà da bocca e tu sarai per lui come Dio. 17 Ora prendi in mano questo bastone con il quale farai i prodigi[a]».
Ritorno di Mosè in Egitto
18 (B)Allora Mosè se ne andò, tornò da Ietro[b] suo suocero e gli disse: «Lascia che io vada e ritorni dai miei fratelli che sono in Egitto, e veda se sono ancora vivi». Ietro disse a Mosè: «Va' in pace».
19 Il Signore disse a Mosè in Madian: «Va', torna in Egitto, perché tutti quelli che cercavano di toglierti la vita sono morti». 20 Mosè dunque prese sua moglie e i suoi figli, li mise su un asino e tornò nel paese d'Egitto. Mosè prese nella sua mano anche il bastone di Dio. 21 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Quando sarai tornato in Egitto, avrai cura di fare davanti al *faraone tutti i prodigi che ti ho dato potere di compiere; ma io gli indurerò il cuore ed egli non lascerà partire il popolo. 22 Tu dirai al faraone: “Cosí dice il Signore: *Israele è mio figlio, il mio primogenito, 23 e io ti dico: «Lascia andare mio figlio, perché mi serva; se tu rifiuti di lasciarlo andare, ecco, io ucciderò tuo figlio, il tuo primogenito”».
24 Mentre si trovava in viaggio, il Signore gli venne incontro nel luogo dov'egli pernottava, e cercò di farlo morire. 25 Allora Sefora prese una selce tagliente, recise il prepuzio di suo figlio e con quello gli toccò i piedi, dicendo: «Tu sei per me uno sposo di sangue!» 26 Allora il Signore lo lasciò. Lei aveva detto: «Sposo di sangue!», a causa della circoncisione.
27 (C)Il Signore disse ad Aaronne: «Va' nel deserto incontro a Mosè». Egli andò, lo incontrò al monte di Dio e lo baciò. 28 Mosè riferí ad Aaronne tutte le parole che il Signore lo aveva incaricato di dire, e tutti i prodigi[c] che gli aveva ordinato di fare. 29 Mosè e Aaronne dunque andarono e radunarono tutti gli *anziani degli Israeliti. 30 Aaronne riferí tutte le parole che il Signore aveva detto a Mosè e fece i prodigi[d] in presenza del popolo. 31 Il popolo prestò loro fede. Essi compresero che il Signore aveva visitato i figli d'Israele e aveva visto la loro afflizione, e s'inchinarono e adorarono.

Potere taumaturgico concesso a Mosè
4 Mosè rispose: «Ecco, non mi crederanno, non ascolteranno la mia voce, ma diranno: Non ti è apparso il Signore!». 2 Il Signore gli disse: «Che hai in mano?». Rispose: «Un bastone». 3 Riprese: «Gettalo a terra!». Lo gettò a terra e il bastone diventò un serpente, davanti al quale Mosè si mise a fuggire. 4 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la mano e prendilo per la coda!». Stese la mano, lo prese e diventò di nuovo un bastone nella sua mano. 5 «Questo perché credano che ti è apparso il Signore, il Dio dei loro padri, il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe». 6 Il Signore gli disse ancora: «Introduci la mano nel seno!». Egli si mise in seno la mano e poi la ritirò: ecco la sua mano era diventata lebbrosa, bianca come la neve. 7 Egli disse: «Rimetti la mano nel seno!». Rimise in seno la mano e la tirò fuori: ecco era tornata come il resto della sua carne. 8 «Dunque se non ti credono e non ascoltano la voce del primo segno, crederanno alla voce del secondo! 9 Se non credono neppure a questi due segni e non ascolteranno la tua voce, allora prenderai acqua del Nilo e la verserai sulla terra asciutta: l'acqua che avrai presa dal Nilo diventerà sangue sulla terra asciutta».
Aronne interprete di Mosè
10 Mosè disse al Signore: «Mio Signore, io non sono un buon parlatore; non lo sono mai stato prima e neppure da quando tu hai cominciato a parlare al tuo servo, ma sono impacciato di bocca e di lingua». 11 Il Signore gli disse: «Chi ha dato una bocca all'uomo o chi lo rende muto o sordo, veggente o cieco? Non sono forse io, il Signore? 12 Ora và! Io sarò con la tua bocca e ti insegnerò quello che dovrai dire». 13 Mosè disse: «Perdonami, Signore mio, manda chi vuoi mandare!». 14 Allora la collera del Signore si accese contro Mosè e gli disse: «Non vi è forse il tuo fratello Aronne, il levita? Io so che lui sa parlar bene. Anzi sta venendoti incontro. Ti vedrà e gioirà in cuor suo. 15 Tu gli parlerai e metterai sulla sua bocca le parole da dire e io sarò con te e con lui mentre parlate e vi suggerirò quello che dovrete fare. 16 Parlerà lui al popolo per te: allora egli sarà per te come bocca e tu farai per lui le veci di Dio. 17 Terrai in mano questo bastone, con il quale tu compirai i prodigi».
Ritorno di Mosè in Egitto. Partenza da Madian
18 Mosè partì, tornò da Ietro suo suocero e gli disse: «Lascia che io parta e torni dai miei fratelli che sono in Egitto, per vedere se sono ancora vivi!». Ietro disse a Mosè: «Và pure in pace!». 19 Il Signore disse a Mosè in Madian: «Và, torna in Egitto, perché sono morti quanti insidiavano la tua vita!». 20 Mosè prese la moglie e i figli, li fece salire sull'asino e tornò nel paese di Egitto. Mosè prese in mano anche il bastone di Dio.
21 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Mentre tu parti per tornare in Egitto, sappi che tu compirai alla presenza del faraone tutti i prodigi che ti ho messi in mano; ma io indurirò il suo cuore ed egli non lascerà partire il mio popolo. 22 Allora tu dirai al faraone: Dice il Signore: Israele è il mio figlio primogenito. 23 Io ti avevo detto: lascia partire il mio figlio perché mi serva! Ma tu hai rifiutato di lasciarlo partire. Ecco io faccio morire il tuo figlio primogenito!».
Circoncisione del figlio di Mosè
24 Mentre si trovava in viaggio, nel luogo dove pernottava, il Signore gli venne contro e cercò di farlo morire. 25 Allora Zippora prese una selce tagliente, recise il prepuzio del figlio e con quello gli toccò i piedi e disse: «Tu sei per me uno sposo di sangue». 26 Allora si ritirò da lui. Essa aveva detto sposo di sangue a causa della circoncisione.
Incontro con Aronne
27 Il Signore disse ad Aronne: «Và incontro a Mosè nel deserto!». Andò e lo incontrò al monte di Dio e lo baciò. 28 Mosè riferì ad Aronne tutte le parole con le quali il Signore lo aveva inviato e tutti i segni con i quali l'aveva accreditato.
29 Mosè e Aronne andarono e adunarono tutti gli anziani degli Israeliti. 30 Aronne parlò al popolo, riferendo tutte le parole che il Signore aveva dette a Mosè, e compì i segni davanti agli occhi del popolo. 31 Allora il popolo credette. Essi intesero che il Signore aveva visitato gli Israeliti e che aveva visto la loro afflizione; si inginocchiarono e si prostrarono.

Signs for Moses
4 Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen(A) to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A staff,”(B) he replied.
3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”
Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake,(C) and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe(D) that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
6 Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[a]—it had become as white as snow.(E)
7 “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored,(F) like the rest of his flesh.
8 Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe(G) you or pay attention to the first sign,(H) they may believe the second. 9 But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood(I) on the ground.”
10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”(J)
11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute?(K) Who gives them sight or makes them blind?(L) Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go;(M) I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”(N)
13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”(O)
14 Then the Lord’s anger burned(P) against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet(Q) you, and he will be glad to see you. 15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth;(R) I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. 16 He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth(S) and as if you were God to him.(T) 17 But take this staff(U) in your hand(V) so you can perform the signs(W) with it.”
Moses Returns to Egypt
18 Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.”
Jethro said, “Go, and I wish you well.”
19 Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill(X) you are dead.(Y)” 20 So Moses took his wife and sons,(Z) put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff(AA) of God in his hand.
21 The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders(AB) I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart(AC) so that he will not let the people go.(AD) 22 Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son,(AE) 23 and I told you, “Let my son go,(AF) so he may worship(AG) me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’”(AH)
24 At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses[b] and was about to kill(AI) him. 25 But Zipporah(AJ) took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin(AK) and touched Moses’ feet with it.[c] “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. 26 So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)
27 The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he met Moses at the mountain(AL) of God and kissed(AM) him. 28 Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform.
29 Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders(AN) of the Israelites, 30 and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs(AO) before the people, 31 and they believed.(AP) And when they heard that the Lord was concerned(AQ) about them and had seen their misery,(AR) they bowed down and worshiped.(AS)

3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6 And the Lord said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.
20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
21 And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.
24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.
28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:
30 And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
