上帝賜摩西能力
4 摩西回答說：「他們不會相信我或聽我的話，他們會說，『耶和華根本沒有向你顯現。』」 2 耶和華對摩西說：「你手裡拿的是什麼？」摩西說：「是一根手杖。」 3 耶和華說：「把它丟在地上！」於是，摩西把杖丟在地上，杖變成了一條蛇。摩西連忙跑開。 4 耶和華說：「你伸手抓住牠的尾巴！」摩西就伸手抓蛇的尾巴，蛇在他手中變回了杖。 5 耶和華說：「這樣，他們就會相信他們祖先的上帝耶和華，就是亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的上帝，曾經向你顯現。」
6 耶和華又說：「把手放進懷裡。」摩西把手放進懷裡，手抽出來的時候，竟患了痲瘋病，像雪一樣白。 7 耶和華說：「再把手放進懷裡。」摩西又把手放進懷裡，這次再抽出來的時候，手已經復原，跟其他地方的皮肉一樣。 8 耶和華說：「縱然他們不聽你的話，不信第一個神蹟，也必定相信第二個神蹟。 9 如果他們兩個神蹟都不相信，還是不聽你的話，你就從尼羅河裡取些水來倒在旱地上，那水就會在旱地上變成血。」
10 摩西對耶和華說：「主啊！我向來不善言辭，即使你對僕人說話以後，我還是不善言辭，因為我是個拙口笨舌的人。」 11 耶和華對他說：「是誰造人的口舌？是誰使人變成啞巴或聾子？是誰使人目明或眼瞎？不都是我耶和華嗎？ 12 去吧！我必賜給你口才，指示你說什麼話。」 13 但是摩西說：「主啊，請派其他人去吧。」 14 耶和華向摩西發怒說：「利未人亞倫不是你哥哥嗎？他是個能言善辯的人，正要來迎接你。他見到你一定很歡喜。 15 你要把該說的話傳給他，我會賜你們口才，教你們如何行事。 16 他要替你向百姓說話，做你的發言人，你對他來說就像上帝一樣。 17 你要把手杖帶在身邊，以便行神蹟。」
18 摩西回到家裡，對他的岳父葉忒羅說：「求你讓我回埃及去探望我的親人，看看他們是否在世。」葉忒羅說：「你平安地去吧。」 19 耶和華在米甸對摩西說：「你只管放心回埃及去，想害你性命的人都已經死了。」 20 於是，摩西拿著上帝的杖，帶著妻子和兒子騎驢返回埃及。 21 耶和華對摩西說：「你到了埃及，見到法老的時候，務要照我賜給你的能力在法老面前行神蹟。但我要使他的心剛硬，他必不讓百姓離開。 22 那時，你就告訴法老，『耶和華說，以色列是我的長子， 23 我對你說過讓我的長子出去事奉我，但你執意不肯。看啊，我要殺你的長子。』」

Moses Argues with God
4 Then Moses answered, “Look, they won’t believe me and they won’t listen to me.[a] Instead, they’ll say, ‘The Lord didn’t appear to you.’”
2 “What’s that in your hand?” the Lord asked him.
Moses[b] answered, “A staff.”[c]
3 Then God[d] said, “Throw it to the ground.” He threw it to the ground and it became a snake. Moses ran away from it.
4 Then God told Moses, “Reach out[e] and grab its tail.” So he reached out, grabbed it, and it became a staff[f] in his hand. 5 God said, “I’ve done this[g] so that they may believe that the Lord God of their ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
6 Again the Lord told him, “Put your hand into your bosom.”[h] He put his hand into his bosom and as soon as he brought it out it was leprous, like snow.[i] 7 Then God[j] said, “Put your hand back into your bosom.” He returned it[k] to his bosom and as soon as he brought it out,[l] it was restored like the rest of[m] his skin.[n]
8 “Then if they don’t believe you and respond to the first sign, they may respond to the second[o] sign. 9 But if they don’t believe even these two signs, and won’t listen to you, then take some water out of the Nile River[p] and pour it on the dry ground. The water you took from the Nile River[q] will turn into blood on the dry ground.”
10 Then Moses told the Lord, “Please, Lord, I’m not eloquent.[r] I never was in the past[s] nor am I now since you spoke to your servant. In fact, I talk too slowly[t] and I have a speech impediment.”[u]
11 Then God asked him, “Who gives a person a mouth? Who makes him unable to speak, or deaf, or able to see, or blind, or lame? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now, go! I myself will help you with your speech,[v] and I’ll teach you what you are to say.”
13 Moses said, “Please, Lord, send somebody else.”[w]
14 Then the Lord was angry with Moses and said, “There’s your brother Aaron, a descendant of Levi, isn’t there? I know that he certainly is eloquent.[x] Right now he’s coming to meet you and he will be pleased to see you. 15 You’re to speak to him and tell him what to say.[y] I’ll help both you and him with your speech,[z] and I’ll teach both of you what you are to do. 16 He is to speak to the people for you as your spokesman[aa] and you are to act in the role of[ab] God for him. 17 Now pick up that staff with your hand. You’ll use it to perform the signs.”
Moses Decides to Return to Egypt
18 Moses left and returned to his father-in-law Jethro. Moses[ac] told him, “Please let me go and return to my own people[ad] in Egypt so I can see whether they’re still alive.”
Jethro told Moses, “Go in peace.”
19 The Lord told Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, because all the men who wanted to kill you are dead.” 20 So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on donkeys, and headed back to the land of Egypt. Moses took the staff of God in his hand.
21 Then the Lord told Moses, “When you set out to return to Egypt, keep in mind[ae] all the wonders that I’ve put in your power,[af] so that you may do them before Pharaoh. But I’ll harden his heart so that he won’t let the people go. 22 You are to say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Israel is my firstborn son. 23 And I say to you, ‘Let my son go so he may serve me. If you refuse to let him go, then I will kill your firstborn son.’”’”
Zipporah Circumcises Moses’ Son
24 But later on, at the lodging place along the way, the Lord met Moses[ag] and was about to kill him. 25 Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin, and touched Moses’[ah] feet with it, saying while doing so,[ai] “…because you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” 26 Then the Lord[aj] withdrew from him, and she said, “…a bridegroom of blood because of circumcision.”
Moses and Aaron Meet and Return to Egypt
27 The Lord told Aaron, “Go meet Moses in the desert.” So Aaron[ak] went, found[al] him at the mountain of God, and embraced[am] him. 28 Moses told Aaron all of the Lord’s messages that he had sent with Moses, and all of the signs that he commanded him to do.[an] 29 Later, Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of Israel. 30 Aaron spoke everything that the Lord had spoken to Moses, and Moses[ao] performed the miracles[ap] before the very eyes of the people. 31 The people believed and understood[aq] that the Lord had paid attention to the Israelis and had seen their affliction. They bowed their heads and prostrated themselves in worship.

4 Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen(A) to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A staff,”(B) he replied.
3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”
Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake,(C) and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe(D) that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
6 Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[a]—it had become as white as snow.(E)
7 “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored,(F) like the rest of his flesh.
8 Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe(G) you or pay attention to the first sign,(H) they may believe the second. 9 But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood(I) on the ground.”
10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”(J)
11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute?(K) Who gives them sight or makes them blind?(L) Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go;(M) I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”(N)
13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”(O)
14 Then the Lord’s anger burned(P) against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet(Q) you, and he will be glad to see you. 15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth;(R) I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. 16 He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth(S) and as if you were God to him.(T) 17 But take this staff(U) in your hand(V) so you can perform the signs(W) with it.”
Moses Returns to Egypt
18 Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.”
Jethro said, “Go, and I wish you well.”
19 Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill(X) you are dead.(Y)” 20 So Moses took his wife and sons,(Z) put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff(AA) of God in his hand.
21 The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders(AB) I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart(AC) so that he will not let the people go.(AD) 22 Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son,(AE) 23 and I told you, “Let my son go,(AF) so he may worship(AG) me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’”(AH)
24 At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses[b] and was about to kill(AI) him. 25 But Zipporah(AJ) took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin(AK) and touched Moses’ feet with it.[c] “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. 26 So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)
27 The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he met Moses at the mountain(AL) of God and kissed(AM) him. 28 Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform.
29 Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders(AN) of the Israelites, 30 and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs(AO) before the people, 31 and they believed.(AP) And when they heard that the Lord was concerned(AQ) about them and had seen their misery,(AR) they bowed down and worshiped.(AS)

4 Moisés disse ao Senhor:
—O que farei se eles não acreditarem em mim nem me escutarem? Eles dirão: “O Senhor não lhe apareceu!”
2 Então o SENHOR lhe perguntou:
—O que tem na mão?
Moisés respondeu:
—Uma vara.
3 O Senhor lhe disse:
—Atire a vara para o chão.
Moisés atirou-a para o chão e a vara transformou-se numa cobra. Então Moisés fugiu dela, 4 mas o SENHOR lhe disse:
—Estenda a sua mão e pegue nela pela cauda.
Quando Moisés estendeu a mão e pegou na cauda da cobra, ela tornou-se numa vara de novo.
5 Então o SENHOR disse:
—Faça isso para que eles creiam que o SENHOR lhe apareceu, o Deus dos seus antepassados, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó.
6 O SENHOR também lhe disse:
—Ponha a sua mão no peito.
Moisés colocou a mão no peito e, quando a tirou, ela estava cheia de lepra, branca como a neve.
7 E Deus lhe disse:
—Coloque de novo a sua mão no peito.
Ele voltou a colocar a mão no peito. E, quando a tirou, a mão estava curada, tão boa como o resto da sua pele.
8 —Se não acreditarem em você depois do primeiro sinal, acreditarão depois do segundo. 9 Mas se mesmo depois do segundo sinal ainda não acreditarem em você, então tire um pouco da água do rio Nilo e derrame-a na terra seca. A água que tirar do Nilo se transformará em sangue ao tocar na terra.
10 Moisés disse ao SENHOR:
—Por favor, Senhor, nunca falei muito bem. Nem antes nem mesmo agora que está falando com o seu servo. Tenho muita dificuldade em falar.
11 O SENHOR lhe disse:
—Quem faz com que a pessoa possa ou não possa falar? Quem faz a pessoa ouvir? Quem faz a pessoa ver ou ser cega? Sou eu, o SENHOR! 12 Vá agora. Eu estarei com você e lhe ensinarei o que deve falar.
13 Mas Moisés disse:
—Por favor, Senhor, envie qualquer outra pessoa, mas não a mim.
14 E o SENHOR ficou irritado com Moisés e lhe disse:
—Está bem! O seu irmão Aarão, da tribo de Levi, fala bem. Ele anda à sua procura e ficará contente por ver você. 15 Ensine a ele o que deve dizer. Eu direi o que vocês devem dizer e ensinarei o que devem fazer. 16 Será ele quem falará por você ao povo. Ele será como seu profeta e você será como seu Deus. 17 Leve a vara que tem na mão, pois é com ela que irá fazer os milagres que mostrarão o meu poder.
Moisés volta para o Egito
18 Moisés foi falar com o seu sogro Jetro e lhe disse:
—Por favor, deixe-me voltar ao Egito, pois quero ver se os meus irmãos hebreus ainda estão vivos.
Jetro disse a Moisés:
—Vá em paz.
19 Quando Moisés ainda estava em Midiã, o SENHOR tinha lhe dito:
—Já pode voltar para o Egito porque já morreram todos os que queriam matar você.
20 Então Moisés levou a sua mulher e aos seus filhos num jumento e voltou para o Egito, levando a vara de Deus na mão.
21 O SENHOR também tinha dito a Moisés:
—Quando você chegar ao Egito, não se esqueça de fazer diante do faraó todas as maravilhas que eu lhe dei poder para fazer. Mas eu farei com que o faraó seja teimoso e não deixe sair o meu povo. 22 Então você dirá ao faraó que eu, o SENHOR, digo isto: “Israel é o meu primeiro filho! 23 Falei para você deixar sair o meu filho para me adorar, mas você recusou. Por isso vou matar o seu primeiro filho”.
24 No caminho para o Egito, Moisés parou num certo lugar para passar a noite. O SENHOR encontrou-se com Moisés nesse lugar e queria matá-lo. 25 Mas Zípora pegou numa faca de pedra e circuncidou o seu filho. Depois, pegou na pele cortada e tocou com ela os pés de Moisés. E disse a Moisés:
—Você é um marido de sangue[a].
26 Então o SENHOR deixou Moisés viver. Zípora chamou Moisés de “marido de sangue” por causa da circuncisão.
27 Enquanto isso o SENHOR tinha dito a Aarão:
—Encontre-se com Moisés no deserto.
E Aarão foi se encontrar com ele no monte de Deus[b] e o saudou com carinho. 28 Moisés contou a Aarão tudo o que o SENHOR tinha lhe mandado dizer e todos os sinais que tinha lhe mandado fazer. 29 Então Moisés e Aarão reuniram-se com todos os líderes de Israel. 30 Aarão contou-lhes tudo o que o SENHOR tinha dito a Moisés e Moisés fez os sinais diante do povo. 31 E todo o povo acreditou neles. Quando os israelitas souberam que o SENHOR os vinha libertar, já que tinha visto o seu sofrimento, eles inclinaram-se em adoração ao SENHOR.

2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6 And the Lord said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.
20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
21 And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.
24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.
28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:
30 And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
