磐石出水
17 以色列全体会众按照耶和华的吩咐，从汛旷野启程，一程一程往前行，来到利非订安营，可是那里没有水喝。 2 百姓便跟摩西吵闹，要他给他们水喝。摩西便对他们说：“你们为什么跟我吵闹？为什么试探耶和华？” 3 百姓非常口渴，他们向摩西抱怨说：“你为什么要把我们带出埃及，让我们一家大小和牲畜都在这里渴死？”
4 摩西就呼求耶和华说：“我拿这些百姓怎么办？他们准备拿石块打死我！” 5 耶和华对摩西说：“你带着之前击打尼罗河水的杖，率领以色列的几个长老走在众人前面。 6 我必在何烈的磐石那里等候你们，你用杖击打磐石，磐石必流出水来给众人喝。”摩西便当着以色列长老的面这样做了。 7 摩西称那地方为玛撒和米利巴[a]，因为百姓在那里吵闹，又试探耶和华，说：“耶和华真的在我们当中吗？”
战胜亚玛力人
8 后来，亚玛力人到利非订攻打以色列人。 9 摩西对约书亚说：“选一些人出去迎战亚玛力人。明天，我会带着上帝的杖站在山顶上。” 10 约书亚便遵照摩西的吩咐迎战亚玛力人，摩西、亚伦和户珥站在山顶上。 11 摩西什么时候举手，以色列人就得胜；他的手什么时候垂下来，亚玛力人就占上风。 12 不久，摩西的手疲倦发软，亚伦和户珥就抬来一块石头让摩西坐下，然后站在他的两边扶着他的手，他就稳稳地举着手，直到日落。 13 这样，约书亚用刀杀败了亚玛力人。

Water From the Rock
17 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin,(A) traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim,(B) but there was no water(C) for the people to drink. 2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water(D) to drink.”(E)
Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”(F)
3 But the people were thirsty(G) for water there, and they grumbled(H) against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die(I) of thirst?”
4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone(J) me.”
5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff(K) with which you struck the Nile,(L) and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(M) Strike(N) the rock, and water(O) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](P) and Meribah[b](Q) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
The Amalekites Defeated
8 The Amalekites(R) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(S) 9 Moses said to Joshua,(T) “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff(U) of God in my hands.”
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur(V) went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning,(W) but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.(X) 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite(Y) army with the sword.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write(Z) this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out(AA) the name of Amalek(AB) from under heaven.”
15 Moses built an altar(AC) and called(AD) it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites(AE) from generation to generation.”(AF)

蛙灾
8 耶和华对摩西说：“你进宫去告诉法老，‘耶和华说，让以色列百姓离开，好事奉我。 2 如果你不听从，我就使青蛙来毁坏你的国土。 3 尼罗河将充满青蛙，它们要跳到你的宫里、卧室和床铺上，你的臣仆和百姓家里，你的炉灶和揉面盆里。 4 青蛙还会跳到你和你的百姓及众臣仆身上。’”

苍蝇之灾
20 耶和华对摩西说：“明天清早，你趁法老去河边时去见他，告诉他，‘耶和华说，放我的子民走，他们好事奉我， 21 不然，我就叫无数的苍蝇飞到你、你的臣仆和百姓身上，进到你们各自的家中，使埃及遍地布满苍蝇。 22 但那天，我子民居住的歌珊却丝毫不会受搅扰，这样你就知道我耶和华主宰天下。 23 我要把我的子民跟你的百姓分开，明天我必行这神迹。’” 24 耶和华果然这样行。密密麻麻的苍蝇飞进法老的王宫和他臣仆的家里，埃及全国都受到苍蝇的毁坏。 25 法老召见摩西和亚伦，对他们说：“你们可以去献祭给你们的上帝，不过要在我的境内举行。” 26 摩西说：“这怎么行？我们用来献祭的东西，是埃及人最憎恶的。如果我们在埃及境内举行这样的仪式，他们一定会拿石头打死我们。 27 我们要照我们上帝耶和华的吩咐离开这里，走三天的路程到旷野去献祭给祂。” 28 法老说：“好，我让你们去旷野献祭给你们的上帝耶和华，只是不要走得太远。现在为我祈求吧。” 29 摩西说：“我离开这里就去祈求耶和华，使苍蝇明天就离开你及你的臣仆和百姓，但这次你不可再食言，阻止以色列人去向耶和华献祭。” 30 摩西说完以后，便离开王宫，去祈求耶和华。 31 耶和华就照摩西的祈求，使成群的苍蝇离开法老及其臣仆和百姓，一只也没有留下。 32 这一次，法老又硬着心，不肯让百姓离开埃及。
瘟疫之灾
9 耶和华对摩西说：“你再进宫见法老，告诉他，‘希伯来人的上帝耶和华说，让我的子民去事奉我。 2 如果你不让他们走，继续扣留他们， 3 我就会使你田间所有的牲畜，包括马、驴、骆驼和牛羊，都染上严重的瘟疫。 4 但我要把埃及和以色列的牲畜分开，以色列人的牲畜必丝毫无损。’” 5 耶和华定了日期，说：“明天耶和华必在此地行这事。” 6 第二天，耶和华就这样行了，埃及的牲畜都死了，但以色列人的牲畜一头也没死。 7 法老派人去探查，发现以色列人的牲畜真的安然无恙。可是，他仍然顽固，不肯让以色列人离开。
脓疮之灾
8 耶和华对摩西和亚伦说：“你们去取几把窑里的灰，摩西要在法老面前把灰抛向空中。 9 这灰要变成尘土，散布在埃及每一个角落，落在人或牲畜身上，就会起疱长疮。” 10 摩西和亚伦便取了一些窑里的灰，站在法老面前，摩西把灰抛向空中，埃及人和牲畜身上就开始起疱长疮。 11 埃及的巫师无法与摩西对抗，因为他们及所有埃及人身上都长了脓疮。 12 耶和华使法老的心刚硬，他就不听他们的话，正如耶和华对摩西说的。
冰雹之灾
13 耶和华对摩西说：“明天一早你再去见法老，对他说，‘希伯来人的上帝耶和华这样说，你要让我的子民出去事奉我。 14 这一次，我要降下大灾祸在你及你的臣仆和百姓身上，好叫你知道普天之下我独一无二。 15 我若用瘟疫攻击你和你的百姓，你们早就灭亡了。 16 我让你活到现在，是为了向你彰显我的权能，使我的名传遍天下。 17 但你竟然在我的子民面前狂傲自大，不让他们离开。 18 明天这个时候，我要使天上降下大冰雹，是你们埃及立国以来从没有见过的。 19 现在，你要叫人赶快到田间把牲畜和属于你的一切都带到安全的地方。凡留在田间的人或牲畜都会被冰雹打死。’” 20 有些法老的臣仆听了耶和华的话就很害怕，赶忙把在田间的仆人和牲畜都召回屋里。 21 但那些不把耶和华的话放在心上的，仍把他们的奴仆和牲畜留在田间。 22 耶和华对摩西说：“你向天伸杖，天就会降下冰雹，落在埃及的一切人畜身上，摧毁田间的一切农作物。” 23 摩西向天伸出手杖，耶和华就发出雷电和冰雹，火光飞向大地。耶和华在埃及降下冰雹。 24 那时冰雹夹杂着火降下来，极为严重，在埃及史无前例。 25 冰雹摧毁了埃及境内田间的一切，包括人和牲畜，摧毁了田里的一切作物，打断了所有的树木， 26 只有以色列人所住的歌珊没有冰雹。 27 法老派人召来摩西和亚伦，对他们说：“这次我犯罪了，耶和华是对的，我和我的百姓错了。 28 请你们向耶和华祷告，好止住雷电和冰雹。我准许以色列人出去，你们不必再留在这里了。” 29 摩西回答说：“我一出城，就向耶和华举手祷告，雷电和冰雹必立刻停止，这样你就知道普天下都属于耶和华。 30 但我知道你和你的臣仆还是不敬畏上帝耶和华。”

蝗虫之灾
10 耶和华对摩西说：“你去见法老，我已使他和他臣仆的心刚硬，好在他们当中行我这些神迹。 2 这样，你就可以把我如何严惩埃及人以及我在他们当中所行的神迹告诉你的子孙，好叫你们知道我是耶和华。”
3 摩西和亚伦便进宫去见法老，对他说：“希伯来人的上帝耶和华说，‘你要到什么时候才肯在我面前谦卑下来，让我的子民离开这里去事奉我？ 4 这次你若再不答应，明天我要使蝗虫飞入你的国境。 5 它们铺天盖地，要吃光冰雹过后田间所剩的，包括一切树木。 6 你的王宫及臣仆和所有埃及人的房屋都要布满蝗虫，这是你祖祖辈辈从未见过的蝗灾。’”摩西说完，便转身离开法老。
7 臣仆对法老说：“这个人还要给我们添多少麻烦呢？让他们离开去事奉他们的上帝耶和华吧！埃及已经快崩溃了，你不知道吗？” 8 法老便召摩西和亚伦进宫，对他们说：“你们去事奉你们的上帝耶和华吧！但你们谁要去呢？” 9 摩西回答说：“我们男女老幼都要去，还有我们的牛群和羊群，因为我们要去守耶和华的节期，向祂献祭。” 10 法老听后，说：“我若让你们带走妇女和孩子，最好耶和华能保护你们！你们真是居心叵测。 11 不行！只有男子可以去事奉耶和华，这是你们一直要求的。”法老说完，便下令把他们赶出去。
12 耶和华对摩西说：“你向埃及伸杖，使蝗虫飞来吃尽冰雹过后剩下的植物。” 13 摩西就向埃及伸杖。耶和华使东风在埃及境内刮了整整一天一夜，到早晨，东风带来了蝗虫。 14 埃及到处都布满了蝗虫，数目之多实在是空前绝后。 15 整个埃及铺满蝗虫，地上一片黑暗。这些蝗虫吃尽了冰雹过后剩下的农作物和树上的果子，没有留下一点青绿。 16 法老急忙召见摩西和亚伦，对他们说：“我得罪了你们的上帝耶和华，又得罪了你们。 17 现在求你饶恕我的罪，就这一次，为我祈求你们的上帝耶和华撤去这场死亡之灾吧！” 18 摩西就离开法老出去祈求耶和华， 19 耶和华就把风向倒转，变成猛烈的西风，把蝗虫刮走，吹进红海。埃及境内一只蝗虫也没留下。 20 可是，耶和华又使法老心硬，不让以色列人离开埃及。
黑暗之灾
21 耶和华对摩西说：“你向天伸杖，使埃及全境漆黑一片，那黑暗浓得甚至可以摸到。” 22 摩西向天伸杖，埃及全境便漆黑了三天之久。 23 埃及人彼此看不见，谁也不敢移动半步。可是，以色列人住的地方却有光。 24 法老把摩西召来，对他说：“去吧，带着你们的妇女和孩子去事奉耶和华吧，但你们要把牛羊留下。” 25 摩西回答说：“你要让我们带走牛羊，因为它们是献给我们上帝耶和华的祭物和燔祭牲。 26 我们要带走所有的牲畜，一只蹄子也不留下，因为我们要从其中选一些来献给我们的上帝耶和华。我们抵达目的地前，还不知道把哪些献给祂。” 27 但耶和华使法老的心刚硬，不肯让以色列百姓离开。 28 法老对摩西说：“给我滚出去！不要再让我见到你，因为你再见我面之日必死。” 29 摩西回答说：“你说得好，我必不再见你的面。”
灭长子之灾
11 耶和华对摩西说：“我给法老和埃及再降下一场灾难，之后他必放你们走，甚至是迫不及待地赶你们走。 2 你要告诉以色列人，不论男女，去向邻近的埃及人索取金器银器。” 3 耶和华使埃及人恩待以色列人，法老的臣仆和百姓极其尊重摩西。
4 摩西说：“耶和华说，‘今晚半夜，我要走遍埃及。 5 埃及境内，从坐王位的法老的长子到推磨的女奴的长子，以及所有头生的牲畜，都必死亡。 6 那时整个埃及必充满悲惨的哭号声，惨况空前绝后。 7 但在以色列人中，连狗也不会向人或牲畜吠叫，这样你们就知道耶和华将把埃及人和以色列人分开。 8 到那天，你所有的臣仆都要来俯伏在我面前，求我和跟随我的百姓离开这里。那时我才会离开。’”摩西说完便怒气冲冲地离开法老。 9 耶和华曾对摩西说：“法老一定不肯听你的话，因此我要在埃及多行神迹。” 10 摩西和亚伦在法老面前行了这一切的神迹，但耶和华使法老的心刚硬，他不让以色列人离开他的国土。
逾越节
12 耶和华在埃及对摩西和亚伦说： 2 “从现在开始，你们要以这个月为一月，为一年之首。 3 你要向以色列全体会众宣布，本月的第十日，每家都要预备一只羊羔，一家一只。 4 倘若家人太少，吃不了一只，可以跟最近的邻居共享一只，你们要按人数和各人的食量预备羊羔。 5 羊羔必须是毫无残疾、一岁的公绵羊或公山羊。 6 全体会众要把羊留到本月十四日，在黄昏时分宰杀， 7 然后取点血涂在房子的门框和门楣上，全家要在房子里吃羊肉。 8 当晚，你们要用火把羊肉烤熟，与无酵饼和苦菜一起吃。 9 不可吃生羊肉，也不可煮着吃，要把整只羊，连头带腿和内脏一并烤着吃。 10 不可把肉留到早晨，留到早晨的肉要烧掉。 11 你们吃的时候，要束腰、穿鞋、手中拿杖，要赶快吃，这是耶和华的逾越节。
12 “因为那一夜我要巡遍埃及，把境内所有长子和头生的牲畜全都杀掉，也要严惩埃及所有的神明。我是耶和华。 13 涂在你们房屋上的血是一个记号，我见到这血就会越过你们。我击打埃及的时候，那灾祸不会落到你们身上。 14 你们要记住这一天，守为耶和华的节期，作为世世代代永远的定例。
除酵节
15 “七天之内你们都要吃无酵饼。第一天，要清除家中所有的酵。任何人若在这七天当中吃有酵的饼，要将他从以色列人中铲除。 16 在节期的第一天和第七天，你们都要招聚百姓举行圣会。这两天所有人都不得工作，除了预备各人要吃的以外，不可做任何工。 17 你们要守这无酵节，因为我在这天把你们大队人马从埃及领了出来。你们要守这节期，作为世世代代永远的定例。 18 从一月十四日晚上开始，直到二十一日晚上，你们都要吃无酵饼。 19 在这七天内，你们屋里不能有酵。任何人若吃了有酵的东西，不论他是寄居者还是本地人，要将他从以色列会众中铲除。 20 无论你们住在哪里都要吃无酵饼，不能吃有酵的食物。”
21 于是，摩西召集以色列的众长老，对他们说：“你们家家户户都要挑选羊羔，把这逾越节的羊羔宰了。 22 拿一把牛膝草蘸盆里的血，把血涂在门框和门楣上。天亮前，你们不可踏出门外。 23 因为耶和华要巡行各地，击杀埃及人，祂看见你们的门框和门楣上有血，就必越过你们的家门，不让灭命者进你们家杀人。 24 这是你们世世代代都要遵守的定例。 25 你们进入耶和华应许给你们的地方以后，要守这逾越节。 26 你们的儿女问你们守这节期的意义时， 27 你们就说，‘这是献给耶和华逾越节的祭，因为我们从前在埃及时，祂击杀埃及人，却越过以色列人所住的房子，救了我们各家。’”百姓听了摩西这番话，都低头下拜。 28 耶和华怎么吩咐摩西和亚伦，以色列人就照样遵行。
29 到了半夜，耶和华把所有埃及人的长子都杀了，包括坐王位的法老的长子、牢中囚犯的长子和一切头生的牲畜。 30 晚上，法老及其臣仆和所有埃及人都惊醒了，到处都是哭号声，因为没有一家不死人的。 31 法老连夜召见摩西和亚伦，对他们说：“你们和以色列人走吧，离开我的人民。就照你们的要求，去事奉耶和华吧！ 32 照你们的要求，把所有的牛羊都带走吧！也要为我祝福。” 33 埃及人催促以色列人赶快离开埃及，因为他们说：“我们都要死了。” 34 于是，以色列百姓就把没有酵的面团放在揉面盆里，用衣服包起来扛在肩上， 35 又遵照摩西的吩咐向埃及人索取金器、银器和衣服。 36 耶和华使埃及人恩待以色列人，他们要什么，埃及人就给什么。这样，以色列人夺取了埃及人的财富。
37 以色列百姓从埃及的兰塞启行，前往疏割，妇女孩童不算在内，单是步行的男子就有六十万， 38 同行的还有许多外族人和大群的牛羊。 39 他们用从埃及带出来的面团烤成无酵饼，面团没有酵，因为他们被催促离开埃及，没有时间准备食物。 40 以色列人在埃及共住了四百三十年， 41 正好满了四百三十年的那一天，耶和华带领以色列大队人马离开了埃及。 42 那天晚上是耶和华把祂的子民带出埃及之夜，因此以后世世代代的以色列人都要在那日守夜，以尊崇耶和华。
43 耶和华对摩西和亚伦说：“以下是逾越节的条例。
“所有外族人都不可吃逾越节的羊羔， 44 但那些买来的奴隶若接受了割礼，就可以吃。 45 寄居的外族人和雇用的工人不可吃。 46 你们吃的时候，应当在房子里吃，不得把肉带到外面去，也不可折断羊羔的一根骨头。 47 以色列全体会众都要守这节期。 48 跟你们住在一起的外族人如果想为耶和华守逾越节，他全家的男子都必须接受割礼，这样才可以像以色列人一样守逾越节，但没有接受割礼的人绝不可吃逾越节的羊羔。 49 本地人和在你们中间寄居的外族人都要遵守这规矩。”
50 耶和华怎样吩咐摩西和亚伦，以色列百姓都遵命而行。 51 就在那一天，耶和华带领以色列大队人马离开了埃及。
奉献头胎
13 耶和华对摩西说： 2 “以色列人中的长子和头生的牲畜都属于我，因此要把他们分别出来，使他们圣洁，归给我。”
3 摩西对百姓说：“你们要记住离开埃及的这一天，因为耶和华用大能的手把你们从受奴役的地方解救出来。不可吃带酵的食物。 4 你们是在亚笔月[a]的这一天从埃及出来的， 5 将来耶和华带领你们进入迦南以后，你们每逢此月都要为祂守节期。那里现在住着迦南人、赫人、亚摩利人、希未人和耶布斯人。耶和华已经向你们祖先起誓，应许赐给你们那奶蜜之乡。 6 在节期的七天之内，你们只可以吃无酵饼，到了第七天，你们要为耶和华守节期。 7 七天之内要吃无酵饼，你们境内不得有酵或是带酵的东西。 8 那时，要告诉你们的子孙，‘这节期是纪念我们离开埃及时耶和华为我们所做的一切。’ 9 这节期就好像在你们手上或额上作的记号，叫你们记得耶和华的律法，祂曾经用大能的手把你们带出埃及。 10 因此，每一年你们都要按时守这节期。
11 “将来耶和华成就祂起誓给你们祖先的应许，领你们进入迦南人的土地，把那里赐给你们以后， 12 你们要把所有长子和头生的公畜归给祂。 13 所有头生的公驴必须用羊羔赎回，不然就要打断它的脖子。要赎回你们所有的长子。 14 将来你们的子孙问起这件事的意义，你们就回答，‘耶和华曾经用大能的手把我们从受奴役之地——埃及领出来。 15 当时法老硬着心不肯放我们走，所以耶和华就把埃及人的长子和头生的牲畜全都杀了。因此，我们把所有头生的公畜当作祭牲献给耶和华，只把长子赎回来。’ 16 这事就像在你们手上作记号，额上作标记，以牢记耶和华曾用大能的手领我们离开埃及。”
云柱和火柱
17 法老让以色列人离开埃及后，上帝没有带领他们穿越非利士地区，虽然那是条捷径。因为上帝说：“如果他们遇上战争，就会改变主意，返回埃及。” 18 所以，上帝领他们绕道而行，走旷野的路，前往红海[b]。以色列人离开埃及时都带着兵器。 19 摩西把约瑟的骸骨一起带走，因为约瑟曾叫以色列人郑重发誓，对他们说：“上帝必眷顾你们，把你们带出埃及，那时你们要把我的骸骨也一起带走。” 20 以色列人从疏割启程，来到旷野边缘的以倘安营。 21 耶和华走在他们前面，白天用云柱为他们指示道路，晚上用火柱照亮他们，这样他们可以日夜赶路。 22 白天的云柱和晚上的火柱从不离开他们。
过红海
14 耶和华对摩西说： 2 “你吩咐以色列人改变方向，在比·哈希录附近的海边扎营，在红海和密夺之间，对面是巴力·洗分。 3 法老必定以为你们走迷了路，被困在旷野。 4 我要使法老的心刚硬，使他派兵追赶你们。我要在法老和埃及军兵身上得到荣耀，好叫埃及人知道我是耶和华。”于是，以色列人依言而行。
5 有人向埃及王报信，说以色列百姓逃走了。法老和他的臣仆便改变主意，说：“我们怎么可以让以色列人就这样离开我们，不再服侍我们呢？” 6 法老便吩咐人预备战车，他亲自领军， 7 率领埃及所有的战车，包括六百辆最精锐的战车，每辆车上都有战车长。 8 耶和华使法老的心刚硬，法老就追赶毫无惧色地离开埃及的以色列人。 9 埃及大军的战车骑兵倾巢而出，沿着海边追赶，在巴力·洗分对面的比·哈希录附近追上了正在那里安营的以色列人。
10 以色列人看见法老大军追了上来，非常害怕，便呼求耶和华。 11 他们对摩西说：“难道埃及没有坟地，要你带我们出来死在旷野吗？为什么要带我们离开埃及呢？ 12 我们对你说过，别管我们，就让我们服侍埃及人吧。服侍埃及人总比死在旷野好啊！” 13 摩西对百姓说：“你们不用害怕，站稳了，看耶和华用什么方法解救你们。你们再也看不到你们今天看到的埃及人了。 14 耶和华必为你们争战，你们要保持镇静。” 15 耶和华对摩西说：“为什么向我呼求呢？吩咐以色列人往前走吧。 16 你举手向海伸出手杖，把海水分开，以色列人可以从中间的干地走过去。 17 我要使埃及人的心刚硬，他们会紧追不舍，跟着你们走进海底。我要在法老及其大军、战车和骑兵身上得到荣耀。 18 当我在法老及其战车和骑兵身上得到荣耀时，埃及人就知道我是耶和华。”
19 这时，在以色列人前面领路的上帝的天使，转到百姓后面，云柱也随着移到后面立住。 20 云柱停在埃及军队和以色列人的中间，埃及军队这边一片黑暗，以色列人那边却有光，双方整夜都无法接近对方。
21 摩西向海伸出手，耶和华便整夜用强劲的东风吹退海水，将海底变成干地。海水分开后， 22 以色列人踏着干地走入海中，海水如两道墙立在他们左右。 23 法老的军兵车马紧追不舍，都跟着下到海中。 24 到了破晓时分，耶和华从云柱火柱中俯视埃及军队，扰乱他们的队伍。 25 祂使他们战车的轮子脱落，难以前行。于是，埃及人说：“我们逃命吧，因为耶和华在帮助以色列人对付我们！”
26 耶和华对摩西说：“你向海伸出手，使海水回流，淹没埃及军队。” 27 天刚亮的时候，摩西向海伸出手，海水便复原。埃及人纷纷向岸上逃命，耶和华却使大水把他们卷回海中。 28 海水回流，法老的战车和人马都淹没在大海之中，全军覆没。 29 全体以色列人却在干地上走过红海，海水在他们两边筑成水墙。 30 那天，耶和华就这样从埃及人手中拯救了以色列人。后来，以色列人还看见埃及人的尸体横在海边。 31 以色列百姓亲眼看见耶和华怎样以大能对付埃及人，他们就敬畏耶和华，又信服祂和祂的仆人摩西。
摩西颂赞耶和华
15 那时，摩西和以色列人便歌颂耶和华说：
“我要歌颂耶和华，
因祂大获全胜，
祂把战马骑兵都卷入海中。
2 耶和华是我的力量，我的诗歌，
也成了我的拯救；
祂是我的上帝，我要赞美祂；
祂是我父亲的上帝，我要尊崇祂。
3 耶和华是战士，
祂名叫耶和华。
4 祂把法老的战车和全军都抛进海中，

8 1 [a]Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship(A) me. 2 If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs(B) on your whole country. 3 The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people,(C) and into your ovens and kneading troughs.(D) 4 The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”
5 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff(E) over the streams and canals and ponds, and make frogs(F) come up on the land of Egypt.’”
6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs(G) came up and covered the land. 7 But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts;(H) they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
8 Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray(I) to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices(J) to the Lord.”
9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time(K) for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”
10 “Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said.
Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God.(L) 11 The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
12 After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the Lord about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh. 13 And the Lord did what Moses asked.(M) The frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards and in the fields. 14 They were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief,(N) he hardened his heart(O) and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
The Plague of Gnats
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff(P) and strike the dust of the ground,’ and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats.” 17 They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats(Q) came on people and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats. 18 But when the magicians(R) tried to produce gnats by their secret arts,(S) they could not.
Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, 19 the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger(T) of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart(U) was hard and he would not listen,(V) just as the Lord had said.
The Plague of Flies
20 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning(W) and confront Pharaoh as he goes to the river and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship(X) me. 21 If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies; even the ground will be covered with them.
22 “‘But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen,(Y) where my people live;(Z) no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know(AA) that I, the Lord, am in this land. 23 I will make a distinction[b] between my people and your people.(AB) This sign will occur tomorrow.’”
24 And the Lord did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials; throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies.(AC)
25 Then Pharaoh summoned(AD) Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land.”
26 But Moses said, “That would not be right. The sacrifices we offer the Lord our God would be detestable to the Egyptians.(AE) And if we offer sacrifices that are detestable in their eyes, will they not stone us? 27 We must take a three-day journey(AF) into the wilderness to offer sacrifices(AG) to the Lord our God, as he commands us.”
28 Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray(AH) for me.”
29 Moses answered, “As soon as I leave you, I will pray to the Lord, and tomorrow the flies will leave Pharaoh and his officials and his people. Only let Pharaoh be sure that he does not act deceitfully(AI) again by not letting the people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.”
30 Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord,(AJ) 31 and the Lord did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained. 32 But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart(AK) and would not let the people go.
The Plague on Livestock
9 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, so that they may worship(AL) me.” 2 If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back, 3 the hand(AM) of the Lord will bring a terrible plague(AN) on your livestock in the field—on your horses, donkeys and camels and on your cattle, sheep and goats. 4 But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt,(AO) so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.’”
5 The Lord set a time and said, “Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land.” 6 And the next day the Lord did it: All the livestock(AP) of the Egyptians died,(AQ) but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died. 7 Pharaoh investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart(AR) was unyielding and he would not let the people go.(AS)
The Plague of Boils
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh. 9 It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils(AT) will break out on people and animals throughout the land.”
10 So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals. 11 The magicians(AU) could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. 12 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart(AV) and he would not listen(AW) to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses.
The Plague of Hail
13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship(AX) me, 14 or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know(AY) that there is no one like(AZ) me in all the earth. 15 For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people(BA) with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. 16 But I have raised you up[c] for this very purpose,(BB) that I might show you my power(BC) and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 17 You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. 18 Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm(BD) that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.(BE) 19 Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.’”
20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared(BF) the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But those who ignored(BG) the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.
22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt—on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.” 23 When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the Lord sent thunder(BH) and hail,(BI) and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24 hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.(BJ) 25 Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields—both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree.(BK) 26 The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen,(BL) where the Israelites were.(BM)
27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,”(BN) he said to them. “The Lord is in the right,(BO) and I and my people are in the wrong. 28 Pray(BP) to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go;(BQ) you don’t have to stay any longer.”
29 Moses replied, “When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands(BR) in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth(BS) is the Lord’s. 30 But I know that you and your officials still do not fear(BT) the Lord God.”
31 (The flax and barley(BU) were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. 32 The wheat and spelt,(BV) however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)
33 Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands toward the Lord; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land. 34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts. 35 So Pharaoh’s heart(BW) was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had said through Moses.
The Plague of Locusts
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart(BX) and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these signs(BY) of mine among them 2 that you may tell your children(BZ) and grandchildren how I dealt harshly(CA) with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the Lord.”(CB)
3 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble(CC) yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 4 If you refuse(CD) to let them go, I will bring locusts(CE) into your country tomorrow. 5 They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left(CF) after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields.(CG) 6 They will fill your houses(CH) and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians—something neither your parents nor your ancestors have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now.’”(CI) Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh.
7 Pharaoh’s officials said to him, “How long will this man be a snare(CJ) to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the Lord their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?”(CK)
8 Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship(CL) the Lord your God,” he said. “But tell me who will be going.”
9 Moses answered, “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival(CM) to the Lord.”
10 Pharaoh said, “The Lord be with you—if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil.[d] 11 No! Have only the men go and worship the Lord, since that’s what you have been asking for.” Then Moses and Aaron were driven out of Pharaoh’s presence.
12 And the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand(CN) over Egypt so that locusts swarm over the land and devour everything growing in the fields, everything left by the hail.”
13 So Moses stretched out his staff(CO) over Egypt, and the Lord made an east wind blow across the land all that day and all that night. By morning the wind had brought the locusts;(CP) 14 they invaded all Egypt and settled down in every area of the country in great numbers. Never before had there been such a plague of locusts,(CQ) nor will there ever be again. 15 They covered all the ground until it was black. They devoured(CR) all that was left after the hail—everything growing in the fields and the fruit on the trees. Nothing green remained on tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
16 Pharaoh quickly summoned(CS) Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned(CT) against the Lord your God and against you. 17 Now forgive(CU) my sin once more and pray(CV) to the Lord your God to take this deadly plague away from me.”
18 Moses then left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord.(CW) 19 And the Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which caught up the locusts and carried them into the Red Sea.[e] Not a locust was left anywhere in Egypt. 20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(CX) and he would not let the Israelites go.
The Plague of Darkness
21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness(CY) spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness(CZ) covered all Egypt for three days. 23 No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.(DA)
24 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go,(DB) worship the Lord. Even your women and children(DC) may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind.”(DD)
25 But Moses said, “You must allow us to have sacrifices and burnt offerings(DE) to present to the Lord our God. 26 Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshiping the Lord our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the Lord.”
27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(DF) and he was not willing to let them go. 28 Pharaoh said to Moses, “Get out of my sight! Make sure you do not appear before me again! The day you see my face you will die.”
29 “Just as you say,” Moses replied. “I will never appear(DG) before you again.”
The Plague on the Firstborn
11 Now the Lord had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go(DH) from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely.(DI) 2 Tell the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.”(DJ) 3 (The Lord made the Egyptians favorably disposed(DK) toward the people, and Moses himself was highly regarded(DL) in Egypt by Pharaoh’s officials and by the people.)
4 So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight(DM) I will go throughout Egypt.(DN) 5 Every firstborn(DO) son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill,(DP) and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. 6 There will be loud wailing(DQ) throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again. 7 But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any person or animal.’ Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction(DR) between Egypt and Israel. 8 All these officials of yours will come to me, bowing down before me and saying, ‘Go,(DS) you and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will leave.”(DT) Then Moses, hot with anger, left Pharaoh.
9 The Lord had said to Moses, “Pharaoh will refuse to listen(DU) to you—so that my wonders(DV) may be multiplied in Egypt.” 10 Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(DW) and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country.
The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread(DX)
12 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 “This month is to be for you the first month,(DY) the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb[f](DZ) for his family, one for each household.(EA) 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 5 The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect,(EB) and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month,(EC) when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.(ED) 7 Then they are to take some of the blood(EE) and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 8 That same night(EF) they are to eat the meat roasted(EG) over the fire, along with bitter herbs,(EH) and bread made without yeast.(EI) 9 Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs.(EJ) 10 Do not leave any of it till morning;(EK) if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 11 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste;(EL) it is the Lord’s Passover.(EM)
12 “On that same night I will pass through(EN) Egypt and strike down(EO) every firstborn(EP) of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods(EQ) of Egypt. I am the Lord.(ER) 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over(ES) you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.(ET)
14 “This is a day you are to commemorate;(EU) for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.(EV) 15 For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast.(EW) On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off(EX) from Israel. 16 On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work(EY) at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat; that is all you may do.
17 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(EZ) because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt.(FA) Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.(FB) 18 In the first month(FC) you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day. 19 For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And anyone, whether foreigner(FD) or native-born, who eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off(FE) from the community of Israel. 20 Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live,(FF) you must eat unleavened bread.”(FG)
21 Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover(FH) lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop,(FI) dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood(FJ) on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. 23 When the Lord goes through the land to strike(FK) down the Egyptians, he will see the blood(FL) on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over(FM) that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer(FN) to enter your houses and strike you down.
24 “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance(FO) for you and your descendants. 25 When you enter the land(FP) that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. 26 And when your children(FQ) ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover(FR) sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’”(FS) Then the people bowed down and worshiped.(FT) 28 The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded(FU) Moses and Aaron.
29 At midnight(FV) the Lord(FW) struck down all the firstborn(FX) in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock(FY) as well. 30 Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing(FZ) in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.
The Exodus
31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship(GA) the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds,(GB) as you have said, and go. And also bless(GC) me.”
33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry(GD) and leave(GE) the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!”(GF) 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs(GG) wrapped in clothing. 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold(GH) and for clothing.(GI) 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed(GJ) toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered(GK) the Egyptians.
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses(GL) to Sukkoth.(GM) There were about six hundred thousand men(GN) on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people(GO) went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. 39 With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out(GP) of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt[g] was 430 years.(GQ) 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions(GR) left Egypt.(GS) 42 Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.(GT)
Passover Restrictions
43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “These are the regulations for the Passover meal:(GU)
“No foreigner(GV) may eat it. 44 Any slave you have bought may eat it after you have circumcised(GW) him, 45 but a temporary resident or a hired worker(GX) may not eat it.
46 “It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.(GY) 47 The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
48 “A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the Lord’s Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land.(GZ) No uncircumcised(HA) male may eat it. 49 The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner(HB) residing among you.”
50 All the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded(HC) Moses and Aaron. 51 And on that very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of Egypt(HD) by their divisions.(HE)
Consecration of the Firstborn
13 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Consecrate to me every firstborn male.(HF) The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.”
3 Then Moses said to the people, “Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt,(HG) out of the land of slavery, because the Lord brought you out of it with a mighty hand.(HH) Eat nothing containing yeast.(HI) 4 Today, in the month of Aviv,(HJ) you are leaving. 5 When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites,(HK) Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites(HL)—the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey(HM)—you are to observe this ceremony(HN) in this month: 6 For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival(HO) to the Lord. 7 Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders. 8 On that day tell your son,(HP) ‘I do this because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ 9 This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand(HQ) and a reminder on your forehead(HR) that this law of the Lord is to be on your lips. For the Lord brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand.(HS) 10 You must keep this ordinance(HT) at the appointed time(HU) year after year.
11 “After the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites(HV) and gives it to you, as he promised on oath(HW) to you and your ancestors,(HX) 12 you are to give over to the Lord the first offspring of every womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the Lord.(HY) 13 Redeem with a lamb every firstborn donkey,(HZ) but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.(IA) Redeem(IB) every firstborn among your sons.(IC)
14 “In days to come, when your son(ID) asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.(IE) 15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed the firstborn of both people and animals in Egypt. This is why I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn sons.’(IF) 16 And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead(IG) that the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand.”
Crossing the Sea
17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”(IH) 18 So God led(II) the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.[h] The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.(IJ)
19 Moses took the bones of Joseph(IK) with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”[i](IL)
20 After leaving Sukkoth(IM) they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.(IN) 21 By day the Lord went ahead(IO) of them in a pillar of cloud(IP) to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left(IQ) its place in front of the people.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol(IR) and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon.(IS) 3 Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ 4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart,(IT) and he will pursue them.(IU) But I will gain glory(IV) for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”(IW) So the Israelites did this.
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled,(IX) Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds(IY) about them and said, “What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!” 6 So he had his chariot made ready and took his army with him. 7 He took six hundred of the best chariots,(IZ) along with all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers over all of them. 8 The Lord hardened the heart(JA) of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly.(JB) 9 The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses(JC) and chariots, horsemen[j] and troops(JD)—pursued the Israelites and overtook(JE) them as they camped by the sea near Pi Hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon.(JF)
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried(JG) out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?(JH) What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”(JI)
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid.(JJ) Stand firm and you will see(JK) the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see(JL) again. 14 The Lord will fight(JM) for you; you need only to be still.”(JN)
15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?(JO) Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff(JP) and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water(JQ) so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts(JR) of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them.(JS) And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord(JT) when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.”
19 Then the angel of God,(JU) who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud(JV) also moved from in front and stood behind(JW) them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness(JX) to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand(JY) over the sea,(JZ) and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind(KA) and turned it into dry land.(KB) The waters were divided,(KC) 22 and the Israelites went through the sea(KD) on dry ground,(KE) with a wall(KF) of water on their right and on their left.
23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen(KG) followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud(KH) at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.(KI) 25 He jammed[k] the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting(KJ) for them against Egypt.”(KK)
26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place.(KL) The Egyptians were fleeing toward[l] it, and the Lord swept them into the sea.(KM) 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea.(KN) Not one of them survived.(KO)
29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground,(KP) with a wall(KQ) of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the Lord saved(KR) Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand(KS) of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared(KT) the Lord and put their trust(KU) in him and in Moses his servant.
The Song of Moses and Miriam
15 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song(KV) to the Lord:
“I will sing(KW) to the Lord,
for he is highly exalted.
Both horse and driver(KX)
he has hurled into the sea.(KY)
2 “The Lord is my strength(KZ) and my defense[m];
he has become my salvation.(LA)
He is my God,(LB) and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt(LC) him.
3 The Lord is a warrior;(LD)
the Lord is his name.(LE)
4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army(LF)
he has hurled into the sea.
The best of Pharaoh’s officers
are drowned in the Red Sea.[n]
5 The deep waters(LG) have covered them;
they sank to the depths like a stone.(LH)
6 Your right hand,(LI) Lord,
was majestic in power.
Your right hand,(LJ) Lord,
shattered(LK) the enemy.
7 “In the greatness of your majesty(LL)
you threw down those who opposed you.
You unleashed your burning anger;(LM)
it consumed(LN) them like stubble.
8 By the blast of your nostrils(LO)
the waters piled up.(LP)
The surging waters stood up like a wall;(LQ)
the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.(LR)
