亚拿尼亚和撒非喇
5 一个名叫亚拿尼亚的人和他的妻子撒非喇也卖掉一些田产。 2 他私自留下一部分钱，只把剩下的放在了使徒的脚边。这事他妻子也知道。 3 彼得说∶“亚拿尼亚，你为什么要让撒旦占据你的心，而对圣灵说谎，藏起了一部分卖田的钱呢？ 4 你卖地之前，难道那块地不是属于你的吗？你卖地后，难道那笔钱不是任你支配的吗？你怎么会想出这个主意来的呢？你不是对人说谎，而是在对上帝说谎。” 5 亚拿尼亚听到这里，便一头栽倒在地死了。所有听到这事的人都充满了恐惧。 6 年轻男子走上去，把他的尸体裹了起来，抬出去埋了。
7 过了三个小时左右，亚拿尼亚的妻子走了进来，她并不知道所发生的事情。 8 彼得问她道∶“告诉我，你们卖地的钱就这些吗？”
撒非喇答道∶“对，就是这些。”
9 听罢，彼得对她说∶“你们俩为什么打定主意要试探主的灵呢？看，那些埋葬了你丈夫的人，正站在门口，他们也会把你给抬出去的。” 10 话音刚落，她便栽倒在了彼得的脚旁，死掉了。那些人进来发现他死了，便把她也抬了出去，埋在了她丈夫的旁边。 11 整个教会的人们，以及所有听说了这件事的人都充满了敬畏。
来自上帝的证明
12 通过使徒之手，许多奇事和神迹在人们中间得以发生。使徒们都聚在“所罗门廊”下， 13 但是外人都不敢加入他们，尽管所有的人都称颂他们。 14 越来越多的人信仰了主，有许多男女加入到信徒的行列。 15 大家把他们的病人都抬到大街上，让他们躺在床上或者垫子上，以便当彼得走过时，至少让他的身影落在一些病人身上。 16 从耶路撒冷附近城镇来的人群，带来了他们的病人和那些受到邪灵折磨的人，这些人的病全都被治好了。
使徒被捕
17 因此，大祭司 [a]和他的同僚们，也就是撒都该党徒们，都非常嫉妒。 18 他们便逮捕了使徒，把他们投进了监狱。 19 可是，夜里，主的一个天使打开了狱门，把他们领了出来，并对他们说： 20 “去站在大殿院子里，告诉人们关于这新生命的全部事情。” 21 使徒们听从了这话，在黎明时分，进了大殿院，开始教导人们。
大祭司和他的同僚们来了，他们召集起议会和所有的以色列的长老，并派人去监狱里带使徒们。 22 但是，当那些人来到监狱时，却发现使徒们不在里面了。他们便返回去报告， 23 说∶“我们发现牢门牢牢地锁着，卫兵也守在门外，可是打开一看，里面一个人也没有。” 24 大殿的警卫队长和祭司长听到这些，都觉得十分纳闷，不知道发生了什么事， 25 这时，有个人进来告诉他们说∶“你们关进监狱里的那些人正站在大殿院里教唆人们呢！” 26 警卫队长便带着手下的人，又把那些使徒们抓了回来。他们没有动用暴力，因为他们害怕在场的人们会用石头砸他们。
27 他们把使徒带了进来，让他们站在全议会人的面前，大祭司质问他们∶ 28 “我们已严厉的禁止过，不许你们再以这个人的名义教导。可是你们的教导还是充满了耶路撒冷，并且要把这个人的死归罪于我们！”
29 彼得和其他的使徒们答道∶“我们必须服从上帝，而不是服从人。 30 耶稣被你们吊死在十字架上，而我们祖先的上帝却使耶稣从死亡中复活。 31 上帝把他做为王子和救世主升到了自己的右侧，以便让他给以色列人悔过自新和得到宽恕的机会。 32 我们是这一切的见证人，上帝赋予服从他的人的圣灵，也是这一切的见证！”
33 议会的人听到这里，都勃然大怒起来。他们想把使徒 [b]们杀了。 34 但是，议会里有一个法利赛人，名字叫迦玛列，是一位受所有人尊敬的律法师。他下令让人们把使徒们带出去一会儿， 35 然后对其他人说∶“我的同胞以色列人啊，你们计划如何去处置这些人，必须慎重。 36 记得曾出现过丢大吧？他自命不凡，大约有四百男子加入了他，他被杀掉了，他的跟随者都被驱散了，没折腾出什么结果来。 37 在他之后，到了人口普查的时候，又出现了加利利人犹大，他引诱一些人跟随自己，他也被杀了，他的随从也被驱散了。 38 因此，关于目前这个案子，我告诉你们，不要管这些人，由他们去吧，因为，他们的计划或活动，如果是源于人，他们必要失败； 39 但是，如果它源于上帝，你们就无法阻止他们，并且甚至会有可能发现自己在与上帝做对。
他们听取了他的意见， 40 于是把使徒们叫了进来，下令打了他们一顿，并发布命令不许他们再以耶稣的名义传道，然后便把他们放了。 41 使徒们非常高兴地离开了议会，因为他们被认为配得上为了耶稣的名字受耻辱。 42 日复一日，无论是在大殿院里还是在人们家里，他们从末停止过教导人们和宣讲耶稣是基督 [c]的福音。

A-na-nia và Xa-phi-ra chết
5 Tuy nhiên có một người tên A-na-nia và vợ là Xa-phi-ra bán một ít đất. 2 Ông giữ lại một phần tiền cho mình, bà vợ cũng biết chuyện ấy và đồng lòng với chồng. Ông đem phần tiền còn lại giao cho các sứ đồ. 3 Phia-rơ hỏi, “A-na-nia ơi, sao ông để Sa-tăng cai trị tư tưởng ông đến nỗi ông nói dối cùng Thánh Linh và giữ lại một phần tiền bán đất? 4 Trước khi ông bán đất thì đất đó thuộc về ông. Ngay sau khi bán rồi, ông có thể dùng tiền ấy cách nào cũng được. Tại sao ông lại định làm chuyện nầy? Ông đã nói dối Thượng Đế chứ không phải dối chúng tôi đâu!” 5-6 A-na-nia vừa nghe như thế liền té xuống tắt thở. Có mấy thanh niên vào, liệm xác ông, mang đi chôn. Ai nghe chuyện cũng kinh sợ.
7 Khoảng ba giờ sau, vợ ông vào, chưa hay biết sự việc vừa xảy ra. 8 Phia-rơ hỏi, “Bà hãy nói cho tôi biết, đây có phải là trọn số tiền bán đất của bà không?”
Xa-phi-ra trả lời, “Dạ phải, đó là số tiền bán được.”
9 Phia-rơ bảo, “Tại sao hai vợ chồng bà đồng mưu thách thức Thánh Linh của Chúa? Kìa, mấy người vừa chôn chồng bà đã về đến cửa, họ sẽ mang bà đi luôn.” 10 Ngay lúc đó Xa-phi-ra té xuống nơi chân Phia-rơ và tắt thở. Khi các thanh niên bước vào thấy bà chết, họ liền mang bà ra chôn bên cạnh chồng. 11 Cả hội thánh [a] và mọi người nghe chuyện ấy đều kinh sợ.
Các sứ đồ chữa lành nhiều người
12 Các sứ đồ làm nhiều dấu kỳ và phép lạ trong dân chúng. Tất cả đều nhóm họp dưới vòm cổng Sô-lô-môn. 13 Không ai khác dám gia nhập nhóm của họ nhưng dân chúng thì rất kính nể họ. 14 Càng ngày càng có nhiều người, cả nam lẫn nữ, tin nhận Chúa và thêm vào số các tín hữu. 15 Dân chúng mang những người bệnh nằm trên chõng và trên chiếu đặt giữa phố để mong khi Phia-rơ đi qua thì bóng của ông có thể che phủ họ. 16 Quần chúng từ các tỉnh quanh Giê-ru-sa-lem mang những người bệnh và bị ác quỉ quấy nhiễu đến, tất cả đều được chữa lành.
Các sứ đồ gặp khó khăn với nhóm lãnh đạo
17 Thầy tế lễ tối cao và các thân hữu của ông, thuộc nhóm gọi là Xa-đu-xê, đầy ganh tức. 18 Họ bắt các sứ đồ tống giam vào ngục. 19 Nhưng ban đêm, một thiên sứ Chúa mở cửa ngục, dẫn các sứ đồ ra ngoài. Thiên sứ dặn, 20 “Hãy ra đứng nơi đền thờ và giảng cho dân chúng mọi điều về sự sống mới nầy.” 21 Nghe thế, các sứ đồ vâng lời đi vào đền thờ lúc sáng sớm và tiếp tục dạy.
Khi thầy tế lễ tối cao và các thân hữu đến triệu tập một cuộc họp gồm những nhà lãnh đạo và bô lão Do-thái. Họ sai người vào ngục để giải các sứ đồ đến. 22 Nhưng khi vào ngục thì các sĩ quan không thấy các sứ đồ đâu, nên họ trở về báo cáo với nhóm lãnh đạo Do-thái. 23 Họ trình, “Ngục đóng và khóa kỹ, có lính canh gác ngoài cửa, nhưng mở cửa thì chẳng thấy ai cả!” 24 Nghe thế, viên sĩ quan chỉ huy toán lính gác đền thờ và các giới trưởng tế vô cùng hoang mang, không hiểu đầu đuôi ra sao. 25 Bỗng có người đến báo, “Kìa! Mấy người các ông nhốt trong ngục đang đứng trong đền thờ dạy dỗ dân chúng.” 26 Viên sĩ quan chỉ huy cùng các lính dưới quyền liền đi ra bắt các sứ đồ mang đến, nhưng không dám mạnh tay vì sợ dân chúng ném đá.
27 Toán lính giải các sứ đồ ra giữa buổi họp, bắt đứng trước các nhà lãnh đạo Do-thái. Rồi thầy tế lễ tối cao hỏi họ, 28 “Chúng tôi đã ra lệnh tuyệt đối cấm các anh không được dạy danh ấy nữa, vậy mà xem kìa, mấy anh làm cho Giê-ru-sa-lem tràn ngập đạo giáo của mấy anh, và còn muốn đổ trách nhiệm trên chúng tôi về cái chết của người nầy nữa.”
29 Phia-rơ và các sứ đồ khác đáp, “Chúng tôi phải vâng lời Thượng Đế chứ không thể vâng lời nhà cầm quyền loài người! 30 Các ông giết Chúa Giê-xu bằng cách treo Ngài lên cây thập tự, nhưng Thượng Đế là Chúa của các tổ tiên chúng ta đã khiến Ngài sống lại từ kẻ chết! 31 Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng được Thượng Đế cất nhắc lên, ngồi bên phải Ngài, để làm Lãnh tụ và Cứu Chúa. Ngài làm như thế cho toàn dân Do-thái có cơ hội ăn năn để được tha tội. 32 Chúng tôi đã chứng kiến việc nầy. Thánh Linh, Đấng mà Thượng Đế ban cho những ai vâng phục, cũng xác nhận những điều nầy là thật.”
33 Khi các nhà lãnh đạo Do-thái nghe vậy, họ vô cùng tức giận và muốn giết các sứ đồ. 34 Nhưng có một người Pha-ri-xi tên Ga-ma-liên đứng lên giữa buổi họp. Ông là giáo sư luật được toàn dân kính nể. Ông bảo đem các sứ đồ ra khỏi buổi họp trong chốc lát. 35 Ông nói, “Dân Ít-ra-en nghe đây, các anh hãy cẩn thận về cách đối xử với mấy người nầy. 36 Các anh còn nhớ khi Thêu-đa nổi lên không? Hắn tự nhận mình là vĩ nhân, có khoảng bốn trăm người theo. Nhưng sau khi hắn bị giết, các kẻ theo hắn đều tan lạc, chẳng làm được trò gì. 37 Sau đó, có người tên Giu-đa từ miền Ga-li-lê xuất hiện vào thời kỳ đăng bộ [b]. Hắn lãnh đạo một toán thuộc hạ nhưng sau khi hắn bị giết, bọn thuộc hạ cũng bị tiêu tan. 38 Cho nên tôi khuyên mấy anh: Tránh xa mấy người nầy đi, đừng đụng tới họ. Vì nếu kế hoạch nầy là do quyền lực con người mà ra thì sẽ bị sụp đổ. 39 Nhưng nếu từ Thượng Đế đến, thì mấy anh ngăn chặn họ không nổi đâu vì chẳng khác nào đánh giặc với Thượng Đế!”
Các nhà lãnh tụ Do-thái đồng ý với lời bàn của Ga-ma-liên. 40 Họ cho gọi các sứ đồ vào, đánh đòn và cấm không cho giảng danh Chúa Giê-xu nữa rồi thả ra. 41 Các sứ đồ rời buổi họp, vui mừng vì được vinh dự chịu nhục trong danh Chúa Giê-xu. 42 Mỗi ngày trong đền thờ hay nhà riêng, họ luôn luôn dạy dỗ dân chúng về Tin Mừng rằng Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng Cứu Thế.

欺骗圣灵
5 一个名叫亚拿尼亚的人与妻子撒非喇也把田产卖了。 2 他私自留下一部分钱，然后把其余的拿去交给使徒，这件事他妻子也知道。 3 彼得说：“亚拿尼亚，你为什么让撒旦充满你的心，欺骗圣灵，私自留下一些卖地的钱呢？ 4 田产没有卖的时候属于你，即使卖了，卖地的钱也由你支配。你怎么做出这种事呢？你不是欺骗人，你是欺骗上帝！” 5 亚拿尼亚听见这话，当场倒地而死。听见这件事的人都非常惧怕。 6 有几个青年上前把他的尸体裹起来，抬出去埋葬了。
7 大约过了三个小时，亚拿尼亚的妻子也进来了，她还不知道发生了什么事。 8 彼得问她：“你们卖田地的钱就这么多吗？”她说：“是的，就这么多。”
9 彼得说：“你们二人怎么串通起来试探主的灵呢？埋葬你丈夫的人就到门口了，他们也要把你抬出去。” 10 撒非喇立刻倒在彼得脚前死了。那些青年进来看见她已经死了，便把她抬出去葬在她丈夫的旁边。 11 整个教会和听见这件事的人都非常惧怕。
神迹奇事
12 主借着使徒们在百姓中行了许多神迹奇事，大家同心合意地在所罗门廊那里聚会。 13 其他人不敢接近他们，不过百姓都很敬重他们。 14 信主的人数不断增加，男女都有。 15 人们甚至把病人抬到街上，放在床上或垫子上，希望彼得路过时的影子可以落在病人身上。 16 还有大群的人从耶路撒冷附近的城镇带着病人和被污鬼搅扰的人赶来，他们都得了医治。
使徒受迫害
17 大祭司和他的同党撒都该人看见这情形，妒火中烧， 18 便把使徒拘捕，关在监里。 19 当天晚上，有一位主的天使把狱门打开，领他们出来， 20 说：“你们到圣殿去，把这生命之道传给百姓。” 21 使徒遵从命令，在黎明的时候来到圣殿开始教导众人。
大祭司和他的同党召集了所有公会[a]的人和以色列的众长老，然后派人去监狱把使徒押来受审。 22 差役来到监狱时，发现使徒已经不见了，就回去禀告，说： 23 “我们看见牢门紧锁，守卫都站在门外，但打开门一看，里面却空无一人！”
24 圣殿护卫长和祭司长听后，都很困扰，不知道是怎么回事。 25 这时有人来报告说：“你们关押在牢里的人正在圣殿里教导人！” 26 圣殿护卫长和差役再去把使徒抓回来。这次他们不敢动粗，生怕百姓会用石头打他们。
27 使徒被带来后站在公会前，大祭司盘问他们，说： 28 “我们不是严禁你们奉耶稣的名去教导百姓吗？你们竟然在耶路撒冷各处传道，还想把杀那人的血债归到我们身上！”
29 彼得和其他使徒申辩说：“我们要服从的是上帝，而非人。 30 你们钉死在十字架上的耶稣，我们祖先的上帝已经使祂复活了。 31 上帝把祂提升到自己的右边，立祂为君王和救主，好赐给以色列人悔改的机会，使他们的罪得到赦免。 32 我们就是这些事的见证人，上帝赐给顺服祂之人的圣灵也同样做见证。”
33 他们听了，怒气冲天，打算杀掉使徒。 34 公会中有一位名叫迦玛列的法利赛人，是个德高望重的律法教师。他站起来，叫人把使徒暂且押到外面， 35 然后说：“以色列人啊，你们应当慎重处置这些人。 36 不久前，有个名叫杜达的人起来自立山头，吸引了差不多四百个跟随者，但他被杀之后，那些跟随者就各奔东西，销声匿迹了。 37 后来，又有个加利利人犹大在户口登记期间鼓动百姓跟随他造反。他被杀之后，那些跟随者也烟消云散了。 38 所以，像现在这种情形，我劝大家还是不要管他们，随他们去吧。他们的计划和行为如果是出于人意，终必失败； 39 但如果是出于上帝，你们不但无法阻止他们，恐怕反而是在抵挡上帝！”
40 公会采纳了他的意见，于是把使徒召回来打了一顿，再次警告他们不可奉耶稣的名传道，才放了他们。 41 使徒离开公会后，为自己有资格为主的名受辱而欢喜。 42 他们每天在圣殿里及各家各户教导人，传扬耶稣是基督。

5 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.
14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,
23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Ananias and Sapphira
5 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself,(A) but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.(B)
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan(C) has so filled your heart(D) that you have lied to the Holy Spirit(E) and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?(F) 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal?(G) What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”(H)
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died.(I) And great fear(J) seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body,(K) and carried him out and buried him.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”(L)
9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?(M) Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died.(N) Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.(O) 11 Great fear(P) seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
The Apostles Heal Many
12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders(Q) among the people. And all the believers used to meet together(R) in Solomon’s Colonnade.(S) 13 No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people.(T) 14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.(U) 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.(V) 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.(W)
The Apostles Persecuted
17 Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party(X) of the Sadducees,(Y) were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.(Z) 19 But during the night an angel(AA) of the Lord opened the doors of the jail(AB) and brought them out.(AC) 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”(AD)
21 At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.
When the high priest and his associates(AE) arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin(AF)—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there.(AG) So they went back and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests(AH) were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.
25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people(AI) would stone them.
27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin(AJ) to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,”(AK) he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”(AL)
29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!(AM) 30 The God of our ancestors(AN) raised Jesus from the dead(AO)—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.(AP) 31 God exalted him to his own right hand(AQ) as Prince and Savior(AR) that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.(AS) 32 We are witnesses of these things,(AT) and so is the Holy Spirit,(AU) whom God has given to those who obey him.”
33 When they heard this, they were furious(AV) and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel,(AW) a teacher of the law,(AX) who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census(AY) and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.(AZ) 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”(BA)
40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged.(BB) Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing(BC) because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.(BD) 42 Day after day, in the temple courts(BE) and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news(BF) that Jesus is the Messiah.(BG)
