5 有一个人名叫亚拿尼亚，同他妻子撒非拉，把田产卖了。 2 他私底下把钱留了一部分，妻子也知道这件事。他把其余的一部分带来，放在使徒的脚前。 3 彼得说：“亚拿尼亚，为甚么撒但充满了你的心，使你欺骗圣灵，私底下把卖地的钱留了一部分呢？ 4 田地还没有卖，不是你自己的吗？既然卖了，所得的钱不是由你作主吗？你为甚么存心这样作呢？你这不是欺骗人，而是欺骗 神。” 5 亚拿尼亚一听见这话，就仆倒断了气。所有听见的人都十分害怕。 6 有几个青年人来把他包好，抬出去埋了。
7 大约三小时之后，亚拿尼亚的妻子进来，还不知道发生了甚么事。 8 彼得问她：“你告诉我，你们卖田地的钱，就是这么多吗？”她说：“是的，就是这么多。” 9 彼得说：“你们为甚么串同试探主的灵呢？你看，埋你丈夫的人的脚，已经到了门口，他们也要把你抬出去。” 10 她立刻就仆倒在彼得脚前，断了气。那些青年人进来，发现她死了，把她也抬出去，埋在她丈夫旁边。 11 全体会众和所有听见这事的人，都很害怕。

12 主借着使徒的手，在民间行了许多神迹奇事。他们都同心聚集在所罗门廊下， 13 其余的人，没有一个敢接近他们，可是民众都很敬重他们。 14 信主的男男女女越来越多， 15 甚至有人把病人抬到街上，放在小床和褥子上，好让彼得经过时，至少他的身影可以落在一些人身上。 16 耶路撒冷周围城市的人，也带着病人和受污灵缠扰的，蜂拥而来，结果病人全都医好了。
使徒受迫害
17 大祭司和他的同党撒都该人都起来，满心忌恨， 18 于是下手拿住使徒，把他们押在公共拘留所里。 19 夜间有一位天使，打开监门，把他们领出来，说： 20 “你们去，站在殿里，把一切有关这生命的话，都讲给众民听。” 21 使徒听完了，就在黎明的时候，进到殿里去教导。大祭司和他的同党来到了，就召集了公议会和以色列人的众长老，派人到监牢去带使徒出来。 22 差役到了监里，找不到他们，回来报告说： 23 “我们发现监门紧闭，狱卒也守在门外；等到开了门，里面连一个人也找不到。” 24 圣殿的守卫长和祭司长听了这些话，觉得很困惑，不知道这件事将来会怎样。 25 忽然有人来报告说：“你们押在监里的那些人，正站在殿里教导众民呢！” 26 于是守卫长和差役去带使徒来，不过没有用暴力，因为怕众民用石头打他们。
27 既然带来了，就叫他们站在公议会前。大祭司问他们： 28 “我们严厉地吩咐过你们，不准再奉这名教导。看，你们却把你们的道理传遍了耶路撒冷，想要把流这人的血的责任推到我们身上。” 29 彼得和众使徒回答：“服从 神过于服从人，是应当的。 30 你们挂在木头上亲手杀害的耶稣，我们祖先的 神已经使他复活了。 31 神把他高举在自己的右边，作元首作救主，把悔改的心赐给了以色列人，使他们罪得赦免。 32 我们为这些事作证， 神赐给顺从的人的圣灵也为这些事作证。”

Ananias and Sapphira
5 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself,(A) but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.(B)
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan(C) has so filled your heart(D) that you have lied to the Holy Spirit(E) and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?(F) 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal?(G) What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”(H)
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died.(I) And great fear(J) seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body,(K) and carried him out and buried him.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”(L)
9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?(M) Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died.(N) Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.(O) 11 Great fear(P) seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
The Apostles Heal Many
12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders(Q) among the people. And all the believers used to meet together(R) in Solomon’s Colonnade.(S) 13 No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people.(T) 14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.(U) 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.(V) 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.(W)
The Apostles Persecuted
17 Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party(X) of the Sadducees,(Y) were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.(Z) 19 But during the night an angel(AA) of the Lord opened the doors of the jail(AB) and brought them out.(AC) 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”(AD)
21 At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.
When the high priest and his associates(AE) arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin(AF)—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there.(AG) So they went back and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests(AH) were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.
25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people(AI) would stone them.
27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin(AJ) to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,”(AK) he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”(AL)
29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!(AM) 30 The God of our ancestors(AN) raised Jesus from the dead(AO)—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.(AP) 31 God exalted him to his own right hand(AQ) as Prince and Savior(AR) that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.(AS) 32 We are witnesses of these things,(AT) and so is the Holy Spirit,(AU) whom God has given to those who obey him.”
33 When they heard this, they were furious(AV) and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel,(AW) a teacher of the law,(AX) who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census(AY) and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.(AZ) 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”(BA)
40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged.(BB) Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing(BC) because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.(BD) 42 Day after day, in the temple courts(BE) and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news(BF) that Jesus is the Messiah.(BG)

Peter Condemns Ananias and Sapphira
5 Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property. 2 But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves.
So when Ananias took the rest of the money to the apostles, 3 Peter said, “Why has Satan made you keep back some of the money from the sale of the property? Why have you lied to the Holy Spirit? 4 The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!”
5 (A) As soon as Ananias heard this, he dropped dead, and everyone who heard about it was frightened. 6 Some young men came in and wrapped up his body. Then they took it out and buried it.
7 Three hours later Sapphira came in, but she did not know what had happened to her husband. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, did you sell the property for this amount?”
“Yes,” she answered, “that's the amount.”
9 Then Peter said, “Why did the two of you agree to test the Lord's Spirit? The men who buried Ananias are by the door, and they will carry you out!” 10 At once she fell at Peter's feet and died.
When the young men came back in, they found Sapphira lying there dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 The church members were afraid, and so was everyone else who heard what had happened.
Peter's Unusual Power
12 The apostles worked many miracles and wonders among the people. All of the Lord's followers often met in the part of the temple known as Solomon's Porch.[a] 13 No one outside their group dared join them, even though everyone liked them very much.
14 Many men and women started having faith in the Lord. 15 Then sick people were brought out to the road and placed on mats. It was hoped that Peter would walk by, and his shadow would fall on them and heal them. 16 A lot of people living in the towns near Jerusalem brought those who were sick or troubled by evil spirits, and they were all healed.
Trouble for the Apostles
17 The high priest and all the other Sadducees who were with him became jealous. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the city jail. 19 But that night an angel from the Lord opened the doors of the jail and led the apostles out. The angel said, 20 “Go to the temple and tell the people everything about this new life.” 21 So they went into the temple before sunrise and started teaching.
The high priest and his men called together their council, which included all of Israel's leaders. Then they ordered the apostles to be brought to them from the jail. 22 The temple police who were sent to the jail did not find the apostles. They returned and said, 23 “We found the jail locked tight and the guards standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors and went in, we didn't find anyone there.” 24 The captain of the temple police and the chief priests listened to their report, but they did not know what to think about it.
25 Just then someone came in and said, “Now those men you put in jail are in the temple, teaching the people!” 26 The captain went with some of the temple police and brought the apostles back. But they did not use force. They were afraid that the people might start throwing stones at them.
27 When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them, 28 (B) “We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death.”
29 Peter and the apostles replied:
We don't obey people. We obey God. 30 You killed Jesus by nailing him to a cross. But the God our ancestors worshiped raised him to life 31 and made him our Leader and Savior. Then God gave him a place at his right side,[b] so that the people of Israel would turn back to him and be forgiven. 32 We are here to tell you about all this, and so is the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to everyone who obeys God.
33 When the council members heard this, they became so angry they wanted to kill the apostles. 34 But one of the members was the Pharisee Gamaliel, a highly respected teacher. He ordered the apostles to be taken out of the room for a little while. 35 Then he said to the council:
Men of Israel, be careful what you do with these men. 36 Not long ago Theudas claimed to be someone important, and about 400 men joined him. But he was killed, and all his followers were scattered. That was the end of that.
37 Later, when the people of our nation were being counted, Judas from Galilee showed up. A lot of people followed him, but he was killed, and all his followers were scattered.
38 So I advise you to stay away from these men. Leave them alone. If what they are planning is something of their own doing, it will fail. 39 (C) But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God.
The council members agreed with what he said, 40 and they called the apostles back in. They had them beaten with a whip and warned them not to speak in the name of Jesus. Then they let them go.
41 The apostles left the council and were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer for the sake of Jesus. 42 Every day they spent time in the temple and in one home after another. They never stopped teaching and telling the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

5 En er was een andere man, Ananias, die met zijn vrouw Saffira óók een stuk land verkocht. 2 Maar hij hield een deel van het geld voor zichzelf. Zijn vrouw wist daarvan. De rest bracht hij naar de apostelen. 3 Maar Petrus zei: "Ananias, waarom heb je je door de duivel laten opstoken om tegen de Heilige Geest te liegen? Want je hebt een deel van het geld voor jezelf gehouden. 4 Toen je het land nog niet had verkocht, was het toch van jou? En toen je het had verkocht, mocht je met het geld toch doen wat je wilde? Waarom doe je dan alsof dit al het geld is? Je hebt niet tegen mensen gelogen, maar tegen God." 5 Toen Ananias dat hoorde, viel hij dood neer. Iedereen die ervan hoorde, werd bang. 6 Een paar jonge mannen maakten hem klaar voor de begrafenis en begroeven hem.

Want ze hoopten dat Petrus' schaduw op hen zou vallen als hij voorbij kwam. 16 Ook grote groepen mensen uit de steden rondom Jeruzalem stroomden toe. De apostelen worden gevangen genomen
17 Maar de hogepriester en alle priesters die bij hem hoorden (de 'partij van de Sadduceeërs') werden vreselijk jaloers. 18 Ze namen de apostelen gevangen. 19 Maar 's nachts kwam er een engel van de Heer. Hij deed de deuren van de gevangenis open en bracht hen naar buiten. 20 Hij zei: "Ga naar de tempel en vertel de mensen daar deze woorden van leven." 21 Ze gehoorzaamden de engel. Tegen de ochtend gingen ze weer naar de tempel en legden de mensen daar uit wie Jezus is.
De hogepriester en zijn priesters riepen de Vergadering bij elkaar. Die bestond uit alle geestelijk leiders van het volk Israël. Daarna stuurden ze tempelbewakers naar de gevangenis om de apostelen te laten brengen. 22 Maar toen ze daar aankwamen, ontdekten ze dat de apostelen er niet waren. Ze kwamen terug en zeiden: 23 "De kerker was op slot en de bewakers stonden voor de deuren op wacht. Maar toen we de deur open deden, was er binnen niemand." 24 De aanvoerder van de tempelbewakers en de leiders van de priesters schrokken toen ze dat hoorden. Ze vroegen zich af wat er zou gaan gebeuren. 25 Op dat moment kwam iemand vertellen: "De mannen die jullie gevangen hadden genomen, zijn in de tempel. Ze staan daar de mensen les te geven."
De apostelen voor de Vergadering
26 Toen ging de aanvoerder van de tempelbewakers met zijn mannen naar de tempel. Ze namen hen mee, maar zonder geweld. Want ze waren bang dat de mensen hen anders met stenen zouden doodgooien. 27 Ze brachten hen voor de Vergadering. De hogepriester ondervroeg hen: 28 "Wij hebben jullie streng verboden om nog les te geven over Jezus. Maar inmiddels heeft heel Jeruzalem gehoord wat jullie aan de mensen leren. En jullie willen óns de schuld geven van de dood van die Man." 29 Maar Petrus en de andere elf apostelen zeiden: "Men moet meer gehoorzaam zijn aan God dan aan de mensen. 30 De God van onze voorvaders heeft Jezus uit de dood teruggeroepen en weer levend gemaakt. Jullie hadden Hem aan een kruis gespijkerd en gedood. 31 Maar God heeft Hem tot Koning en Redder van de mensen gemaakt. Hij wil dat Israël door Hem weer gaat leven zoals Hij het wil. Door Hem wil Hij hun ongehoorzaamheid vergeven. 32 Dát is waar wij samen met de Heilige Geest over spreken. Want God heeft de Heilige Geest gegeven aan de mensen die Hem gehoorzaam zijn." 33 Toen ze dit hoorden, werden ze woedend en wilden ze hen laten doden.
34 Maar er was een Farizeeër[a] in de Vergadering voor wie alle mensen veel respect hadden. Dat was de wetgeleerde[b] Gamaliël. Hij stond op en zei dat de apostelen even buiten de zaal gebracht moesten worden. 35 Toen zei hij tegen de Vergadering: "Mannen van Israël, bedenk goed wat jullie met deze mannen zullen doen! 36 Want hiervóór hadden we Teudas die beweerde dat hij iets was. Ongeveer 400 mannen sloten zich bij hem aan. Maar hij werd gedood en zijn groep viel uit elkaar. 37 Na hem hadden we Judas de Galileeër. Dat was in de tijd dat de mensen zich van de Romeinse keizer moesten laten inschrijven. Heel veel mensen sloten zich bij hem aan. Maar ook hij werd gedood en de hele groep is uit elkaar geslagen. 38 Daarom zeg ik jullie: bemoei je niet met deze mensen, maar laat hen met rust. Want als wat zij doen mensenwerk is, zal het worden vernietigd. 39 Maar als het iets van God is, zullen jullie het niet kunnen vernietigen. Het zou kunnen zijn dat jullie tegen God aan het strijden zijn." 40 En ze luisterden naar hem. Ze riepen de apostelen weer binnen en lieten hun zweepslagen geven. Toen verboden ze hun opnieuw om over Jezus te spreken. Daarna lieten ze hen gaan.
41 Ze vertrokken, blij dat ze slecht behandeld waren vanwege hun geloof in Jezus. 42 En ze bleven elke dag in de tempel en bij de mensen thuis over Jezus Christus vertellen.

- Handelingen 5:34 De Farizeeërs waren mensen die probeerden om zich zo precies mogelijk aan de wet van God te houden. Ze hadden een heel uitgebreid systeem van regels opgebouwd over hoe de wet van God in het dagelijks leven toegepast zou moeten worden. Ze waren zelfs nog preciezer dan nodig was, want ze hielden zich ook aan de strengere regels die alleen voor de priesters golden. Ze vonden zichzelf veel beter dan het 'gewone volk' dat zich minder met de wet bezighield. Ze hielden zich daarvan op een afstand, omdat ze vonden dat ze 'onrein' werden van die mensen.

17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,
23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
