24 过了五天，大祭司亚拿尼亚同几个长老，和一个律师帖土罗来了，他们向总督控告保罗。 2 保罗传来了之后，帖土罗就控诉他说：“腓力斯大人，因着你的缘故，我们大大地享受着太平；因着你的远见，本国大事改革； 3 我们随时随地感激不尽。 4 现在我不想多烦扰你，只求你宽容一下，听我们讲几句话。 5 我们看这个人就像瘟疫一样，是煽动普天下犹太人生乱的人，又是拿撒勒派的首领。 6 他还意图污秽圣殿，我们就把他捉住。（有些抄本在此有以下一段：“我们想按照我们的律法审问他。7可是千夫长吕西亚来了，用武力把他从我们手中抢走，８还吩咐原告到你这里来。”） 8 你亲自审问之后，就必清楚知道我们告他的一切事了。” 9 犹太人也都跟他一同控告保罗，证实事情确是这样。
保罗在腓力斯面前申辩
10 总督向保罗示意，叫他说话，他就说：“我知道你在本国审案多年，所以乐意为自己申辩。 11 你清楚知道，自从我上耶路撒冷去礼拜，到现在还没有十二天； 12 无论在殿里、会堂中或城里，他们都没有看见我跟人辩论，或煽动群众作乱， 13 也不能向你证明他们现在控告我的事。 14 但有一件事我要向你承认，他们所称为异端的这道，我正是根据这道来敬拜我祖先的 神的。一切律法和先知所记的，我都相信。 15 我靠着 神所存的盼望，也是他们自己所期待的，就是义人和不义的人都要复活； 16 因此，我常常勉励自己，对 神对人要常存无亏的良心。 17 过了几年我带着捐款回来赒济本国，同时也带了祭物， 18 他们看见我在殿里的时候，我已经行完了洁净礼，并没有和一大群人在一起，也没有生乱， 19 只有几个从亚西亚来的犹太人而已。他们若有事要控告我，就应该到你面前来控告。 20 要不然，当我站在公议会中受审的时候，这些人若发现我有甚么罪行，早就亲自说出来了。 21 如果有的话，就是我站在他们中间所喊的：‘我今天在你们面前受审，是为了死人复活的事’那一句话。”
22 腓力斯本来就详细晓得这道，却故意拖延他们，说：“等千夫长吕西亚来了，再断定你们的事。” 23 于是吩咐百夫长看守保罗，但要宽待他，不可阻止亲友来照料他。
腓力斯听道后害怕起来
24 过了几天，腓力斯和他的犹太妻子土西拉一同来到，他又传见保罗，听他谈论在耶稣基督里的信仰。 25 保罗讲到公义、自制和将来的审判的时候，腓力斯就害怕起来，说：“你先走吧，等我有空的时候再叫你来。” 26 同时他也希望保罗送钱给他，所以又多次传见他，和他谈话。
27 过了两年，波求．非斯都接了腓力斯的任；腓力斯为要讨好犹太人，就把保罗留在监里。

24 過了五天，亞拿尼亞大祭司、幾個長老和一個叫帖土羅的律師下來，向總督控告保羅。 2 保羅一被傳來，帖土羅就開始控告他，說：「腓力斯大人，我們因你得以享受國泰民安，並且這一國的弊病，因着你的遠見得以改革。 3 我們隨時隨地都滿心感激不盡。 4 為了不敢躭擱你太久，我只求你寬容一下，聽我們說幾句話。 5 我們看這個人如同瘟疫一般，是鼓動普天下所有的猶太人作亂的人，又是拿撒勒教派裏的一個頭目。 6 他甚至連聖殿也要污穢，我們就把他捉拿了。[a] 8 你自己審問他，就可以知道我們所控告他的一切事了。」 9 眾猶太人也隨着控告他，說：「這些事情確是這樣。」
保羅為自己辯護
10 總督示意叫保羅說話，保羅就回答：「我知道你在本國作法官多年，所以我樂意為自己申辯。 11 你查問就可以知道，從我上耶路撒冷去禮拜到今日不過十二天。 12 他們並沒有看見我在聖殿裏跟人辯論，或在會堂裏、在城裏煽動羣眾。 13 也不能對你證實他們現在所控告我的事。 14 但有一件事我向你承認，就是我正按着他們所稱為異端的道事奉我祖宗的 神，又信合乎律法和先知書上所記載的一切。 15 我對 神存着這些人自己也接受的盼望，就是義人和不義的人都要復活。 16 因此，我勉勵自己，對 神對人，時常存着無虧的良心。 17 過了幾年，我帶着賙濟本國的捐項和供物上去。 18 正獻的時候，他們看見我在聖殿裏已經潔淨了，並沒有聚眾，也沒有吵嚷， 19 惟有幾個從亞細亞來的猶太人—他們若有控告我的事，應當到你面前來告我。 20 不然，讓這些人自己說，他們看出我站在議會前的時候，有甚麼不對的地方。 21 縱然有，也不過是為了一句話，就是我站在他們中間喊說：『我今日在你們面前受審，是為了死人復活。』」
22 腓力斯本是詳細認識這道，就拖延他們，說：「且等呂西亞千夫長下來，我再審判你們的案。」 23 於是他下令百夫長看守保羅，要從寬待他，不可攔阻他的親友來供給他。

24 過了幾天，腓力斯和他夫人猶太女子土西拉一同來到，就叫保羅來，聽他講論信基督耶穌的事。 25 保羅講論公義、節制和將來的審判，腓力斯害怕起來，就回答：「你暫且去吧！等我有機會時再來叫你。」 26 腓力斯又指望保羅送他銀錢，所以屢次叫他來，和他談論。 27 過了兩年，波求‧非斯都接了腓力斯的任；腓力斯要討猶太人的喜歡，就把保羅留在監裏。

24 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
4 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.
17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
