百夫长哥尼流的异象
10 在凯撒里亚有一个名叫哥尼流的人，是那叫做“意大利”军团的百夫长， 2 他是个敬虔的人，与全家都敬畏神；他慷慨地周济民众，常常向神祷告。 3 有一天，大约下午三点[a]，他在异象中清楚地看见神的一位天使来到他面前，对他说：“哥尼流！”
4 哥尼流注视着他，感到害怕，说：“主啊，有什么事呢？”
天使说：“你的祷告和你的施舍，已经上达神的面前蒙记念了。 5 现在你要派人到约帕去，请一位称为彼得的西门来。 6 他在一个硝皮匠西门的家里作客住宿，房子就在海边[b]。[c]”
7 向哥尼流说话的天使离开以后，哥尼流叫来两个家仆和常伺候他的一个敬神的士兵， 8 向他们述说这一切以后，就派他们去约帕。
彼得的异象
9 第二天，当他们赶路快到约帕的时候，大约中午十二点[d]，彼得上屋顶去祷告。 10 他感到饿了，想吃东西。有人正在给他准备的时候，彼得魂游象外， 11 看见天开了，有一样东西降下，好像一块大布，四角捆住[e]，缒到地上。 12 里面有地上的各种四足动物、野兽[f]、爬行动物和天空的飞鸟。 13 接着有声音对他说：“彼得，起来，宰了吃！”
14 彼得却说：“主啊，千万不可！因为我从来没有吃过任何俗物和不洁净的东西。”
15 那声音第二次又对他说：“神所洁净的，你不可当做污秽的。” 16 这样一连有三次，那东西随即被收回天上去了。
彼得访问哥尼流
17 当彼得心里困惑，不知道所看见的异象是什么意思的时候，看哪，哥尼流派来的人已经打听到了西门的家，站在门口， 18 大声问：“是否有一位称为彼得的西门在这里作客住宿？”
19 彼得还在思考那异象的时候，圣灵对他说：“看哪，有三个人来找你！ 20 你起来，下去与他们一起走，不要有任何疑惑，因为是我派他们来的。”
21 彼得就下到[g]那些人那里，说：“看，我就是你们要找的人。你们来到这里是为了什么缘故呢？”
22 他们说：“百夫长哥尼流是个义人，敬畏神，也受到了犹太全族的赞许。他受一位圣天使的指示：要请你到他家去，听你的话语。” 23 彼得就请他们进来，招待了他们。
第二天，他起身与他们一同去，还有一些约帕的弟兄陪他一起去。 24 又过了一天，他们进了凯撒里亚。哥尼流已经召集了他的亲属和好友，等候着他们。 25 当彼得进去的时候，哥尼流就迎上去，俯伏在他的脚前拜他。
26 彼得扶他起来，说：“你起来，我自己也是个人。” 27 彼得与他说着话进去，看见里面聚集了许多人， 28 就对他们说：“你们知道，犹太人和外族人交往或亲近是律法所禁止的[h]。但是神指示我，不要把任何人当做俗的或不洁净的。 29 所以我一受邀请，没有推辞就来了。那么请问，你们请我来有什么事呢？”
30 哥尼流说：“四天前的这个时候[i]，下午三点[j]，我在家里祷告[k]。忽然有一个身穿明亮衣服的人，站在我面前， 31 说‘哥尼流，你的祷告已蒙垂听，你的施舍已经在神面前蒙记念了。 32 所以你当派人到约帕去，请一位称为彼得的西门来。他在海边硝皮匠西门的家里作客住宿。[l]’ 33 所以我就立即派人到你那里。你来了真好！现在我们都来到这里，在神的面前，聆听主[m]所吩咐你的一切话。”
向外邦人传福音
34 于是彼得就开口说：“我现在真的了解神是不偏待人的， 35 原来在各民族中，那敬畏神而行义的人，都是神所悦纳的。 36 神藉着耶稣基督——这一位就是万有之主——传和平[n]的福音，把这话语赐给了以色列子民。 37 你们知道在约翰所传讲的洗礼以后，那从加利利开始，在犹太全地所发生的事， 38 就是神怎样以圣灵和能力膏立拿撒勒人耶稣，他走遍各地行善，使所有受魔鬼压制的人痊愈，因为神与他同在。 39 我们就是他在犹太人之地和耶路撒冷所行的一切事的见证人。他们竟然把他挂在木头上杀了。 40 第三天，神使他复活，并且使他显现， 41 不是显现给全体民众，而是显现给神预先选定的见证人，就是我们这些在他从死人中复活以后，与他一起吃、一起喝的人。 42 耶稣还吩咐我们要向民众传道，郑重地见证他就是神所设定的那一位，活人和死人的审判者。 43 所有的先知都为耶稣见证：‘所有信他的人，都将藉着他的名，罪得赦免。’”
外邦人信主受洗
44 彼得还在讲这些话的时候，圣灵降临在每个听这话语的人身上。 45 所有陪彼得一起来的割礼派的[o]信徒，看见所赐的圣灵[p]也被倾注在外邦人身上，都十分惊讶， 46 因为他们听见外邦人说着殊言[q]，又尊神为大。
于是彼得说： 47 “这些人就像我们一样也领受了圣灵，到底谁能阻止用水给他们施洗[r]呢？” 48 他就吩咐他们奉耶稣基督[s]的名受洗[t]；然后他们请求彼得在那里多住几天。

彼得对哥尼流全家讲道
34 彼得就开口说：“我实在看出 神是不偏待人的。 35 原来在各民族中，凡敬畏他而行义的，都蒙他悦纳。 36 神借着耶稣基督（他是万有的主）传和平的福音，把这道传给以色列人。 37 你们知道：在约翰传讲洗礼之后，这道从加利利传遍了犹太， 38 并且知道 神怎样用圣灵和能力膏立拿撒勒人耶稣。他到各处行善事，医好所有被魔鬼压制的人，因为 神与他同在。 39 我们就是他在犹太人之地和耶路撒冷所行一切事的见证人；他们竟然把他挂在木头上，杀了他。 40 神叫他第三天复活，并且使他显现， 41 不是显现给所有的人看，而是给 神预先拣选的见证人看，就是我们这些在他从死人中复活之后，与他一同吃喝的人。 42 他吩咐我们向人民传讲，郑重证明他是 神所立，审判活人死人的主。 43 所有先知都为他作见证：所有信他的，都必借着他的名，罪得赦免。”
外族人领受圣灵
44 彼得还在说话的时候，圣灵降在所有听道的人身上， 45 那些受了割礼、跟彼得一同来的信徒，因为圣灵的恩赐（“恩赐”或译：“恩赏”）也浇灌在外族人的身上，都很惊讶； 46 原来听见他们讲方言，尊 神为大。于是彼得说： 47 “这些人既然领受了圣灵，跟我们一样，谁能禁止他们受水的洗礼呢？” 48 就吩咐他们奉耶稣基督的名受洗。后来，他们请彼得住了几天。

哥尼流邀請彼得

God Speaks to a Man Who Was Not a Jew
10 There was a man in the city of Caesarea by the name of Cornelius. He was a captain of an Italian group of the army. 2 He and his family were good people and honored God. He gave much money to the people and prayed always to God.
3 One afternoon about three o’clock he saw in a dream what God wanted him to see. An angel of God came to him and said, “Cornelius.” 4 He was afraid as he looked at the angel. He said, “What is it, Lord?” The angel said, “Your prayers and your gifts of money have gone up to God. He has remembered them. 5 Send some men to the city of Joppa and ask Simon Peter to come here. 6 He is living with Simon, the man who works with leather. His house is by the sea-shore. He will tell you what you must do.” 7 The angel left him. Then Cornelius called two of his servants and a religious soldier who took care of him. 8 He told what had happened. Then he sent them to Joppa.
Peter’s Dream
9 The next day they went on their way. About noon they were coming near the town. At this time Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became very hungry and wanted something to eat. While they were getting food ready to eat, he saw in a dream things God wanted him to see. 11 He saw heaven open up and something like a large linen cloth being let down to earth by the four corners. 12 On the cloth were all kinds of four-footed animals and snakes of the earth and birds of the sky. 13 A voice came to him, “Get up, Peter, kill something and eat it.” 14 Peter said, “No, Lord! I have never eaten anything that our Law says is unclean.” 15 The voice said the second time, “What God has made clean you must not say is unclean.” 16 This happened three times. Then it was taken back to heaven.
Cornelius’ Men Find Peter
17 Peter thought about the meaning of the dream. The men that Cornelius had sent came. They were standing by the gate asking about Simon’s house. 18 They called to ask if Simon Peter was staying there.
19 Peter was still thinking about the dream when the Holy Spirit said to him, “See, three men are looking for you. 20 Get up. Go down and go with them. Do not doubt if you should go, because I sent them.” 21 Peter went down to the men who had been sent by Cornelius. He said, “I am the one you are looking for. Why have you come?” 22 They said, “Cornelius sent us. He is a captain and a good man and he honors God. The whole Jewish nation can say this is true. An angel from God told him to send for you. He asks you to come to his house. He wants to hear what you have to say.”
Peter Goes to Cornelius
23 Peter asked them to come in and stay with him for the night. The next day he went with them. Some of the brothers from Joppa went along. 24 The next day they came to Caesarea. Cornelius was looking for them. He had gathered all his family and close friends at his house. 25 When Peter came, Cornelius got down at his feet and worshiped him. 26 But Peter raised him up and said, “Get up! I am just a man like you.” 27 As Peter spoke with Cornelius, he went into the house and found a large group of people gathered together. 28 Peter said to them, “You know it is against our Law for a Jew to visit a person of another nation. But God has shown me I should not say that any man is unclean. 29 For this reason I came as soon as you sent for me. But I want to ask you why you sent for me?”
30 Cornelius said, “Four days ago at three o’clock in the afternoon I was praying here in my house. All at once, I saw a man standing in front of me. He had on bright clothes. 31 He said to me, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayers and has remembered your gifts of love. 32 You must send to Joppa and ask Simon Peter to come here. He is staying at the house of Simon, the man who works with leather. His house is by the sea-shore.’ 33 I sent for you at once. You have done well to come. We are all here and God is with us. We are ready to hear whatever the Lord has told you to say.”
Peter Preaches in Cornelius’ House
34 Then Peter said, “I can see, for sure, that God does not respect one person more than another. 35 He is pleased with any man in any nation who honors Him and does what is right. 36 He has sent His Word to the Jews. He told them the Good News of peace through Jesus Christ. Jesus is Lord of All. 37 You know the story yourselves. It was told in all the country of Judea. It began in the country of Galilee after the preaching of John the Baptist. 38 God gave Jesus of Nazareth the Holy Spirit and power. He went around doing good and healing all who were troubled by the devil because God was with Him. 39 We have seen and heard everything He did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. And yet they killed Him by nailing Him to a cross. 40 God raised Him to life on the third day and made Him to be seen. 41 Not all the people saw Him but those who were chosen to see Him. We saw Him. We ate and drank with Him after He was raised from the dead. 42 He told us to preach to the people and tell them that God gave Christ the right to be the One Who says who is guilty of the living and the dead. 43 All the early preachers spoke of this. Everyone who puts his trust in Christ will have his sins forgiven through His name.”
The Holy Spirit Comes to the Family of Cornelius
44 While Peter was speaking, the Holy Spirit came on all who were hearing his words. 45 The Jewish followers who had come along with Peter were surprised and wondered because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also given to the people who were not Jews. 46 They heard them speak in special sounds and give thanks to God. Then Peter said, 47 “Will anyone say that these people may not be baptized? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 He gave the word that they should be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for some days.

Cornelius Calls for Peter
10 At Caesarea(A) there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. 2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing;(B) he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. 3 One day at about three in the afternoon(C) he had a vision.(D) He distinctly saw an angel(E) of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”
4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked.
The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering(F) before God.(G) 5 Now send men to Joppa(H) to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. 6 He is staying with Simon the tanner,(I) whose house is by the sea.”
7 When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. 8 He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.(J)
Peter’s Vision(K)
9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof(L) to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.(M) 11 He saw heaven opened(N) and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14 “Surely not, Lord!”(O) Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”(P)
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”(Q)
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision,(R) the men sent by Cornelius(S) found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision,(T) the Spirit said(U) to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”(V)
21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man,(W) who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”(X) 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.
Peter at Cornelius’s House
The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers(Y) from Joppa went along.(Z) 24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea.(AA) Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”(AB)
27 While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.(AC) 28 He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile.(AD) But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.(AE) 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes(AF) stood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ 33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism(AG) 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.(AH) 36 You know the message(AI) God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news(AJ) of peace(AK) through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.(AL) 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed(AM) Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing(AN) all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.(AO)
39 “We are witnesses(AP) of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross,(AQ) 40 but God raised him from the dead(AR) on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people,(AS) but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate(AT) and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people(AU) and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.(AV) 43 All the prophets testify about him(AW) that everyone(AX) who believes(AY) in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”(AZ)
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on(BA) all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter(BB) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out(BC) even on Gentiles.(BD) 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b](BE) and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water.(BF) They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”(BG) 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.(BH) Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
