底格里斯河邊的異象
10 波斯王塞魯士執政第三年，但以理，又名伯提沙撒，得到啟示。這啟示是真實的，是關於一場大爭戰的事。但以理通過異象明白了啟示的意思。
2 那時，我但以理悲傷了三個星期， 3 期間沒有吃過美味，沒有嚐過酒肉，沒有抹過膏油。 4 一月二十四日，我站在底格里斯河邊， 5 舉目觀看，見有一個人身穿細麻衣，腰束純金的帶子， 6 身體如碧玉，面貌如閃電，眼睛如火炬，四肢如明亮的銅，聲音如眾人的呼喊。 7 只有我但以理看見了這異象，跟我在一起的人都沒有看見，但他們極其恐懼，紛紛逃匿， 8 只剩下我一人觀看這奇異的景象。我渾身無力，臉色蒼白，精疲力盡。 9 接著，我聽見他說話的聲音，一聽見他的聲音，我便俯伏在地上昏睡過去。 10 忽然有一隻手輕拍我，扶我用膝和手掌支撐起身體。 11 他對我說：「倍受眷愛的但以理啊，要留心聽我說，站起來吧，因為我是奉命到你這裡來的。」他說完這話，我便戰戰兢兢地站起來。 12 他說：「但以理啊，不要怕，從你在上帝面前謙卑地懇求明白這異象的第一天，你的禱告已蒙垂聽。我是來答覆你的。 13 波斯國的守護神攔阻我二十一日。由於我滯留在波斯諸王那裡，天使長米迦勒便來幫助我。 14 我來是要使你明白將來你同胞的遭遇，因為這異象是關於將來的事。」 15 他對我說話時，我低著頭，說不出話。 16 後來，有一位樣子像人的用手摸我的嘴唇，我便開口對站在我面前的說：「我主啊，因為這異象，我痛苦不堪，毫無氣力。 17 僕人我怎能跟我主說話？我現在渾身無力，沒有氣息。」
18 於是，那位樣子像人的再次摸我，使我有力量。 19 他對我說：「倍受眷愛的人啊，不要怕，願你平安！要剛強勇敢。」我聽到他的話，便有了力量，於是對他說：「我主啊，請說，因為你使我有了力量。」 20 他說：「你知道我為什麼要到你這裡來嗎？現在我要回去與波斯的守護神爭戰。我離開後，希臘的守護神就會來。 21 除了你們的守護天使米迦勒以外，誰也不能幫助我抵擋他們。我來是要把記錄在真理書上的事告訴你。

Daniël ziet een Man in linnen kleren
10 Toen Kores, de koning van Perzië, drie jaar regeerde,[a] sprak God tot mij. (Ik, Daniël, werd ook Beltsazar genoemd.) God liet mij zien wat er zou gaan gebeuren. Het was de waarheid, maar het ging over een verre toekomst. En ik begreep wat de Heer mij liet zien. 2 Ik was drie weken lang diep bedroefd over wat ik over die verre toekomst had gezien. 3 Ik at geen lekkere dingen en geen vlees en ik dronk geen wijn. Ook verzorgde ik mij niet met zalf-olie, tot er drie hele weken voorbij waren.
4 Dit is wat ik had gezien. Op de 24e dag van de eerste maand stond ik aan de oever van de grote rivier de Tigris. 5 Plotseling zag ik een Man in linnen kleren staan. Om zijn middel had Hij een gordel van zuiver goud. 6 Zijn lichaam glansde als een edelsteen, zijn gezicht schitterde als de bliksem, zijn ogen leken vuurvlammen, zijn armen en voeten glansden als gepoetst koper en zijn stem klonk als het gedreun van een groot leger. 7 Alleen ik, Daniël, zag Hem. De mannen die bij mij waren zagen Hem niet. Ze voelden wel dat er iets bijzonders gebeurde. Ze werden heel erg bang en vluchtten weg om zich te verbergen. 8 Zo bleef ik alleen achter toen ik deze belangrijke, indrukwekkende dingen zag.
Toen ik de Man zag, had ik helemaal geen kracht meer. Ik werd doodsbleek en voelde me helemaal slap worden. 9 Toen hoorde ik Hem spreken. Zodra ik zijn stem hoorde, viel ik flauw. Ik viel met mijn gezicht op de grond. 10 Toen raakte een hand mij aan. Ik kwam op handen en knieën overeind. 11 De Man zei tegen mij: "Daniël, vriend, let nu goed op wat Ik zeg. Kom overeind. Want Ik ben naar jou toe gestuurd." Toen kwam ik bevend overeind. 12 Hij zei: "Je hoeft niet bang te zijn, Daniël. Vanaf de dag dat je probeerde alles te begrijpen en dat je tot God hebt gebeden, heeft Hij je woorden gehoord. Na jouw gebed ging Ik onmiddellijk naar je op weg. 13 Maar de heerser van Perzië[b] hield Mij 21 dagen tegen. Toen kwam Michaël, één van de belangrijkste engelen, naar Mij toe. Hij kwam Mij helpen omdat Ik werd tegengehouden door de heersers van Perzië. 14 Nu ben Ik naar je toe gekomen om je te vertellen wat er in de verre toekomst met je volk zal gebeuren. Want het zal over de verre toekomst gaan."
15 Terwijl Hij met mij sprak, knielde ik neer, met mijn gezicht tot op de grond. Ik kon niet meer spreken. 16 Hij die er uitzag als een mens raakte mijn mond aan. Toen kon ik weer spreken. Ik zei tegen Hem die vóór mij stond: "Wat ik heb gezien doet mij veel pijn en verdriet, Heer. Ik voel me er ziek van. 17 Hoe kan ik met U spreken, Heer? Ik heb nu helemaal geen kracht meer. Ik kan zelfs nauwelijks nog ademhalen." 18 Toen raakte Hij die er uitzag als een mens mij opnieuw aan en gaf mij kracht. 19 Hij zei: "Je hoeft niet bang te zijn, vriend, Ik wens je vrede toe. Wees sterk! Wees sterk!" Toen Hij dat zei, kwam mijn kracht in mij terug. En ik zei: "Spreek verder, Heer, want ik heb weer kracht gekregen."
20 Toen zei Hij: "Weet je waarom Ik naar je toe ben gekomen? Maar nu moet Ik onmiddellijk teruggaan om tegen de heerser van Perzië te strijden. Zodra Ik vertrek, zal de heerser van Griekenland komen. 21 Maar eerst zal Ik je vertellen wat er opgeschreven is in het Boek van de Waarheid. Niemand helpt Mij bij mijn strijd tegen hen. Ik krijg alleen hulp van de engel Michaël die jullie beschermt.

- Daniël 10:1 Hij was al langer koning van Medië en Perzië, maar pas sinds drie jaar hoorde Babylonië bij dat koninkrijk doordat het door Medië en Perzië veroverd was. Dus pas sinds drie jaar was hij ook koning over het vroegere Babylonië.
- Daniël 10:13 Hiermee wordt niet de aardse koning van Perzië bedoeld, maar de geestelijke macht die over Perzië heerste.

10 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.
2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.
3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;
5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.
9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.
10 And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.
15 And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.
16 And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.
17 For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.
18 Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,
19 And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.
20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.
21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

Vision of the Glorious Man
10 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose (A)name was called Belteshazzar. The message was true, [a]but the appointed time was long; and he understood the message, and had understanding of the vision. 2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. 3 I ate no [b]pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
4 Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, that is, the [c]Tigris, 5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in (B)linen, whose waist was (C)girded with gold of Uphaz! 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, (D)and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.
7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. 8 Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my [d]vigor was turned to [e]frailty in me, and I retained no strength. 9 Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.
Prophecies Concerning Persia and Greece
10 (E)Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, (F)man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.
12 Then he said to me, (G)“Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, (H)your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 (I)But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, (J)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people (K)in the latter days, (L)for the vision refers to many days yet to come.”
15 When he had spoken such words to me, (M)I [f]turned my face toward the ground and became speechless. 16 And suddenly, (N)one having the likeness of the [g]sons of men (O)touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke, saying to him who stood before me, “My lord, because of the vision (P)my sorrows have [h]overwhelmed me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For how can this servant of my lord talk with you, my lord? As for me, no strength remains in me now, nor is any breath left in me.”
18 Then again, the one having the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me. 19 (Q)And he said, “O man greatly beloved, (R)fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!”
So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight (S)with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. 21 But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, (T)except Michael your prince.
