4 我尼布甲尼撒安居在宫中，平顺在殿内。 5 我做了一梦，使我惧怕，我在床上的思念并脑中的异象使我惊惶。 6 所以我降旨召巴比伦的一切哲士到我面前，叫他们把梦的讲解告诉我。 7 于是那些术士、用法术的、迦勒底人、观兆的都进来，我将那梦告诉了他们，他们却不能把梦的讲解告诉我。

8 末后那照我神的名称为伯提沙撒的但以理来到我面前，他里头有圣神的灵。我将梦告诉他说： 9 “术士的领袖伯提沙撒啊，因我知道你里头有圣神的灵，什么奥秘的事都不能使你为难，现在要把我梦中所见的异象和梦的讲解告诉我。 10 我在床上脑中的异象是这样：我看见地当中有一棵树，极其高大。 11 那树渐长，而且坚固，高得顶天，从地极都能看见。 12 叶子华美，果子甚多，可做众生的食物。田野的走兽卧在荫下，天空的飞鸟宿在枝上，凡有血气的都从这树得食。 13 我在床上脑中的异象，见有一位守望的圣者从天而降， 14 大声呼叫说：‘伐倒这树，砍下枝子，摇掉叶子，抛散果子，使走兽离开树下，飞鸟躲开树枝。 15 树墩却要留在地内，用铁圈和铜圈箍住，在田野的青草中让天露滴湿，使他与地上的兽一同吃草。 16 使他的心改变，不如人心，给他一个兽心，使他经过七期[a]。 17 这是守望者所发的命，圣者所出的令，好叫世人知道至高者在人的国中掌权，要将国赐予谁就赐予谁，或立极卑微的人执掌国权。’ 18 这是我尼布甲尼撒王所做的梦。伯提沙撒啊，你要说明这梦的讲解，因为我国中的一切哲士都不能将梦的讲解告诉我，唯独你能，因你里头有圣神的灵。”

19 于是称为伯提沙撒的但以理惊讶片时，心意惊惶。王说：“伯提沙撒啊，不要因梦和梦的讲解惊惶。”伯提沙撒回答说：“我主啊，愿这梦归于恨恶你的人，讲解归于你的敌人！ 20 你所见的树渐长，而且坚固，高得顶天，从地极都能看见。 21 叶子华美，果子甚多，可做众生的食物。田野的走兽住在其下，天空的飞鸟宿在枝上。 22 王啊，这渐长又坚固的树就是你。你的威势渐长及天，你的权柄管到地极。 23 王既看见一位守望的圣者从天而降，说：‘将这树砍伐毁坏，树墩却要留在地内，用铁圈和铜圈箍住，在田野的青草中，让天露滴湿，使他与地上的兽一同吃草，直到经过七期。’ 24 王啊，讲解就是这样：临到我主我王的事是出于至高者的命。 25 你必被赶出离开世人，与野地的兽同居，吃草如牛，被天露滴湿，且要经过七期，等你知道至高者在人的国中掌权，要将国赐予谁就赐予谁。 26 守望者既吩咐存留树墩，等你知道诸天掌权，以后你的国必定归你。 27 王啊，求你悦纳我的谏言，以施行公义断绝罪过，以怜悯穷人除掉罪孽，或者你的平安可以延长。”

28 这事都临到尼布甲尼撒王。 29 过了十二个月，他游行在巴比伦王宫里[b]， 30 他说：“这大巴比伦不是我用大能大力建为京都，要显我威严的荣耀吗？” 31 这话在王口中尚未说完，有声音从天降下，说：“尼布甲尼撒王啊，有话对你说：你的国位离开你了！ 32 你必被赶出离开世人，与野地的兽同居，吃草如牛，且要经过七期，等你知道至高者在人的国中掌权，要将国赐予谁就赐予谁。” 33 当时这话就应验在尼布甲尼撒的身上，他被赶出离开世人，吃草如牛，身被天露滴湿，头发长长好像鹰毛，指甲长长如同鸟爪。

4 Después de eso, Nabucodonosor dijo:
«Con mis mejores deseos de paz y abundancia para todos los pueblos de la tierra, yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, 2 quiero contar las cosas tan maravillosas que el Dios altísimo ha hecho conmigo. 3 ¡Qué grandes son sus milagros y maravillas! Su reino durará para siempre, y su poder nunca tendrá fin.
4 »Mientras yo descansaba muy tranquilamente en mi palacio, 5 tuve un sueño. Lo que vi en el sueño me asustó mucho. 6 Entonces ordené que se presentaran ante mí todos los sabios de Babilonia, para que me explicaran el sueño. 7 Cuando vinieron, les conté mi sueño; pero ninguno pudo decirme lo que significaba. 8-9 Después se presentó Daniel. Nosotros lo conocemos como Beltsasar, en honor de mi Dios. Yo sé que a Daniel lo guía el espíritu del Dios único. Por eso le conté mi sueño, y le dije:
»Tú, Beltsasar, eres más sabio que todos los sabios juntos. Yo sé que no hay nada que tú no sepas. He tenido un sueño, y quiero que me digas lo que significa. 10 Esto fue lo que soñé:
»En medio de la tierra
había un árbol muy alto.
11 No había otro árbol más fuerte;
no había otro árbol más grande.
Se podía ver desde lejos,
y llegaba hasta el cielo.
12 Eran tan verdes sus hojas
y tan abundante su fruta,
que alcanzaba para alimentar
a todas las aves del cielo,
a todos los animales del campo
y a toda la gente.
13 »Mientras yo seguía acostado,
un ángel bajó del cielo
14 y a gritos anunció:
“¡Echen abajo ese árbol!
Córtenle las ramas,
déjenlo sin hojas,
arránquenle su fruta.
Que se vayan los animales
que se cubren con su sombra;
que se vayan los pájaros
que anidan en sus ramas.
15-16 Déjenle sólo el tronco,
y no le arranquen las raíces.
Déjenlo entre la hierba del campo,
y que lo riegue el rocío.
”Dejen que ese árbol,
que es el rey Nabucodonosor,
cambie su manera de pensar
y se vuelva como los animales.
Déjenlo que coma hierba,
como los animales,
y sujétenlo con cadenas
durante siete años.
17 ”Los mensajeros de Dios
han decidido castigarlo.
Así todo el mundo sabrá
que sólo el Dios altísimo
gobierna a todos los reinos.
Hace rey a quien él quiere,
y hace jefe de un país
a la persona más sencilla”.
18 »Éste es el sueño que tuve, y que ningún sabio me pudo explicar. Pero yo sé que tú puedes hacerlo, porque el espíritu del Dios único está en ti».
19 Daniel estaba muy preocupado por las ideas que le venían a la cabeza, así que se quedó callado. Pero el rey lo llamó por su otro nombre y le dijo:
—No te preocupes, Beltsasar. Dime lo que significa el sueño.
Y Daniel le contestó:
—¡Cómo quisiera yo que el significado del sueño tuviera que ver con los enemigos de Su Majestad! 20-22 El árbol grande y poderoso que usted vio en su sueño es usted mismo. Su Majestad llegó a ser tan poderoso que su grandeza llegaba hasta el cielo. Y así como el árbol tenía hojas muy verdes, y todos comían de su fruta, así también Su Majestad cubría toda la tierra, y todo el mundo sabía de su poder.
23 »En el sueño usted vio que un ángel bajaba del cielo, y ordenaba que cortaran el árbol. Pero tenían que dejarle el tronco y las raíces, y sujetarlo con cadenas durante siete años. Además, el árbol debía quedarse en el campo, junto con los animales.
24 »Eso quiere decir que el Dios altísimo ha decidido castigar a Su Majestad. 25 Usted ya no vivirá con la gente, sino que vivirá con los animales, y comerá hierba como ellos. Se bañará con el rocío del cielo, y así estará usted durante siete años. Al final de esos siete años, Su Majestad reconocerá que sólo el Dios altísimo gobierna a todos los reinos del mundo, y que sólo él puede hacer rey a quien él quiere.
26 »Al árbol se le dejaron el tronco y las raíces. Eso quiere decir que Su Majestad volverá a reinar, pero sólo cuando haya reconocido el poder del Dios del cielo.
27 »Yo le aconsejo a Su Majestad que deje de hacer lo malo, y que ayude a la gente pobre y necesitada. Tal vez así pueda vivir Su Majestad tranquilo y feliz.
28 Lo que Daniel le dijo al rey Nabucodonosor se hizo realidad. 29 Un año después, el rey andaba paseando por su palacio 30 y dijo: «¡Qué grande es Babilonia! ¡Yo fui quien la hizo grande y hermosa, para mostrar mi poder a todo el mundo!»
31 Todavía estaba hablando el rey, cuando se oyó una voz del cielo que le dijo:
«Rey Nabucodonosor, a partir de este momento dejarás de ser rey. 32 No vivirás ya entre la gente, sino que vivirás siete años entre los animales. Comerás hierba del campo, como ellos, hasta que reconozcas que el Dios altísimo es el único rey de este mundo. Sólo Dios puede hacer rey a quien él quiere que sea rey».
33 Estas palabras se cumplieron inmediatamente, y el rey dejó de vivir entre la gente. Comía pasto, como los toros, y se bañaba con el rocío del cielo. Sus cabellos parecían plumas de águila, y sus uñas parecían garras de pájaro.
Nabucodonosor sana de su locura
34 «Al cabo de los siete años, yo, Nabucodonosor, dejé de estar loco. Entonces levanté los ojos al cielo y le di gracias al Dios altísimo, que vive para siempre. Lo alabé y le dije:
“Tu poder durará para siempre,
y tu reino no tendrá fin.
35 Ante ti, nada podemos hacer
los que vivimos en la tierra.
Tú haces lo que quieres
con los ejércitos del cielo
y con los habitantes del mundo.
Nadie puede oponerse a ti,
ni hacerte ningún reclamo”.
36 »Tan pronto como dije esto, sané de mi locura y recuperé la grandeza de mi reino. ¡Volví a ser el mismo de antes! Todos mis consejeros y jefes de mi reino vinieron a servirme, y llegué a ser más poderoso que antes. 37 Por eso alabo y adoro al Rey del cielo, pues todo lo que hace está bien hecho. Él es un Dios justo, que humilla a los que son orgullosos. Lo digo yo, el rey Nabucodonosor».

4 (3.31) «Yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, deseo paz y prosperidad a los hombres de todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan la tierra. 2 (3.32) Quiero que sepan ustedes las cosas tan maravillosas que el Dios altísimo ha hecho conmigo. 3 (3.33) ¡Qué grandes son sus prodigios y milagros! Su reino durará por siempre, y su poder continuará de generación en generación.
4 (1) »Yo, Nabucodonosor, vivía tranquilo en mi palacio y disfrutaba de una gran prosperidad. 5 (2) Pero una noche, estando ya acostado, tuve un sueño que me espantó, y pensamientos y visiones que me llenaron de terror. 6 (3) Entonces ordené que vinieran a verme todos los sabios de Babilonia, para que me explicaran el significado del sueño. 7 (4) Vinieron todos los magos, adivinos, sabios y astrólogos de Babilonia, y yo les conté el sueño, pero no pudieron decirme lo que significaba. 8 (5) Por último se presentó Daniel, llamado también Beltsasar en honor a mi dios, y cuya vida está guiada por el espíritu del Dios santo, y le conté mi sueño de la siguiente manera: 9 (6) “Beltsasar, jefe de los adivinos, yo sé que el espíritu del Dios santo te guía, y que conoces todos los misterios. Escucha, pues, lo que he visto en mi sueño, y dime lo que significa. 10 (7) Éstas son las visiones que tuve mientras estaba acostado:
»”‘En medio de la tierra había un árbol muy alto.
11 (8) El árbol creció y se hizo muy grueso;
su copa tocaba el cielo, y se le podía ver
desde los puntos más lejanos de la tierra.
12 (9) Eran tan hermosas sus hojas
y tan abundante su fruto,
que bastaba para alimentar a todos.
Las bestias del campo se ponían a su sombra,
en sus ramas hacían nidos las aves
y la vida de todo el mundo dependía de él.’
13 (10) »”De repente vi en mis visiones un ángel centinela que bajaba del cielo, 14 (11) y que en voz alta decía:
»”‘Echen abajo el árbol, córtenle las ramas,
quítenle las hojas, esparzan sus frutos.
Que huyan las bestias que están bajo su sombra
y las aves que están en sus ramas.
15 (12) Pero dejen en la tierra el tronco y sus raíces;
sujétenlo con cadenas de hierro y de bronce,
y déjenlo entre la hierba del campo.
Que caiga el rocío sobre él,
y que comparta con las bestias la hierba del campo.
16 (13) Que su mente se trastorne
y se vuelva como la de un animal,
y que ese mal le dure siete años.
17 (14) Ésta es la sentencia que han dictado
los santos ángeles centinelas,
para que todos los hombres sepan
que el Dios altísimo tiene poder
sobre los reinos humanos,
que él da el gobierno a quien quiere dárselo
y hace jefe de una nación
al más humilde de los hombres.’
18 (15) »”Éste es el sueño que yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, tuve. Ahora, Beltsasar, dime su significado, pues ninguno de los sabios de mi reino lo ha entendido; pero tú podrás interpretarlo, porque en ti está el espíritu del Dios santo.
19 (16) »”Entonces Daniel, al que llamaban Beltsasar, se quedó un momento pensativo, horrorizado por los pensamientos que le venían a la mente. Pero yo, el rey, le dije: ‘Beltsasar, no te preocupes por el sueño que he tenido, ni por su explicación.’ Y Beltsasar contestó: ‘¡Ay, que todo lo que el sueño significa recaiga sobre los enemigos de Su Majestad! 20 (17) El árbol alto y grueso que vio Su Majestad, el cual llegaba hasta el cielo y se podía ver desde los puntos más lejanos de la tierra, 21 (18) que tenía hojas hermosas y fruto abundante que alcanzaba para alimentar a todos, a cuya sombra se arrimaban las bestias del campo y en cuyas ramas hacían su nido las aves, 22 (19) ese árbol es Su Majestad, que ha crecido y se ha hecho poderoso. La grandeza de Su Majestad ha aumentado hasta alcanzar la altura del cielo, y su dominio se ha extendido sobre toda la tierra. 23 (20) Su Majestad vio también que un santo ángel centinela bajaba del cielo y decía: Echen abajo el árbol y destrúyanlo, pero dejen en la tierra el tronco y sus raíces; sujétenlo con cadenas de hierro y de bronce, y déjenlo entre la hierba del campo. Que caiga el rocío sobre él, y que comparta con las bestias la hierba del campo durante siete años. 24 (21) Esto significa la sentencia que el Dios altísimo ha dictado contra Su Majestad. 25 (22) Y Su Majestad será separado de la gente y vivirá con los animales; comerá hierba, como los bueyes, y el rocío empapará su cuerpo. Así vivirá Su Majestad durante siete años, hasta que reconozca que el Dios altísimo tiene poder sobre todos los reinos humanos, y que es él quien pone como gobernante a quien él quiere. 26 (23) La orden de que se dejara en la tierra el tronco y sus raíces, significa que se devolverá a Su Majestad el reino cuando Su Majestad haya reconocido que Dios es quien tiene el poder. 27 (24) Por tanto, siga Su Majestad este consejo mío: actúe con rectitud y no peque más; ponga fin a sus maldades y ocúpese de ayudar a los pobres. Tal vez así pueda Su Majestad seguir viviendo en paz y prosperidad.’”»
28 (25) Todas estas cosas anunciadas al rey Nabucodonosor, se cumplieron: 29 (26) Un año después, mientras el rey se paseaba por la terraza de su palacio de Babilonia, 30 (27) dijo: «¡Miren qué grande es Babilonia! Yo, con mi gran poder, la edifiqué como capital de mi reino, para dejar muestras de mi grandeza.»
31 (28) Todavía estaba hablando el rey cuando se oyó una voz del cielo, que decía: «Oye esto, rey Nabucodonosor. Tu reino ya no te pertenece; 32 (29) serás separado de la gente y vivirás con los animales; comerás hierba como los bueyes durante siete años, hasta que reconozcas que el Dios altísimo tiene poder sobre todas las naciones de la tierra, y que es él quien pone como gobernante a quien él quiere.»
33 (30) En ese mismo instante se cumplió la sentencia anunciada, y Nabucodonosor fue separado de la gente; comió hierba, como los bueyes, y el rocío empapó su cuerpo, hasta que el pelo y las uñas le crecieron como si fueran plumas y garras de águila.

34 (31) «Cuando el tiempo de la sentencia se cumplió, yo, Nabucodonosor, miré al cielo y me sentí curado de mi locura; entonces bendije al Dios altísimo y alabé con estas palabras al que vive para siempre:
»“Su poder durará siempre;
su reino permanecerá de generación en generación.
35 (32) Ante él nada son
los habitantes de la tierra.
Él actúa según su voluntad,
tanto en el cielo como en la tierra.
No hay nadie que pueda oponerse a su poder
ni preguntarle por qué actúa como actúa.”
36 (33) »En aquel mismo momento recobré el juicio, el esplendor de mi reino, mi honor y mi grandeza. Mis consejeros y las altas personalidades de mi gobierno vinieron a buscarme, y me puse nuevamente al frente del gobierno de mi nación, llegando a tener un poder todavía mayor del que había tenido antes.
37 (34) »Ahora pues, yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo, honro y glorifico al Rey del cielo, porque todo lo que hace es verdadero y justo, y puede humillar a los que se creen importantes.»

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree
4 [a]King Nebuchadnezzar,
To the nations and peoples of every language,(A) who live in all the earth:
May you prosper greatly!(B)
2 It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs(C) and wonders that the Most High God(D) has performed for me.
3 How great are his signs,
how mighty his wonders!(E)
His kingdom is an eternal kingdom;
his dominion endures(F) from generation to generation.
4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented(G) and prosperous. 5 I had a dream(H) that made me afraid. As I was lying in bed,(I) the images and visions that passed through my mind(J) terrified me.(K) 6 So I commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to interpret(L) the dream for me. 7 When the magicians,(M) enchanters, astrologers[b] and diviners(N) came, I told them the dream, but they could not interpret it for me.(O) 8 Finally, Daniel came into my presence and I told him the dream. (He is called Belteshazzar,(P) after the name of my god, and the spirit of the holy gods(Q) is in him.)
9 I said, “Belteshazzar, chief(R) of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods(S) is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Here is my dream; interpret it for me. 10 These are the visions I saw while lying in bed:(T) I looked, and there before me stood a tree in the middle of the land. Its height was enormous.(U) 11 The tree grew large and strong and its top touched the sky; it was visible to the ends of the earth.(V) 12 Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all. Under it the wild animals found shelter, and the birds lived in its branches;(W) from it every creature was fed.
13 “In the visions I saw while lying in bed,(X) I looked, and there before me was a holy one,(Y) a messenger,[c] coming down from heaven. 14 He called in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree(Z) and trim off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it and the birds from its branches.(AA) 15 But let the stump and its roots, bound with iron and bronze, remain in the ground, in the grass of the field.
“‘Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let him live with the animals among the plants of the earth. 16 Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let him be given the mind of an animal, till seven times[d] pass by for him.(AB)
17 “‘The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High(AC) is sovereign(AD) over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest(AE) of people.’
18 “This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, for none of the wise men in my kingdom can interpret it for me.(AF) But you can,(AG) because the spirit of the holy gods(AH) is in you.”(AI)
Daniel Interprets the Dream
19 Then Daniel (also called Belteshazzar) was greatly perplexed for a time, and his thoughts terrified(AJ) him. So the king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its meaning alarm you.”(AK)
Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, if only the dream applied to your enemies and its meaning to your adversaries! 20 The tree you saw, which grew large and strong, with its top touching the sky, visible to the whole earth, 21 with beautiful leaves and abundant fruit, providing food for all, giving shelter to the wild animals, and having nesting places in its branches for the birds(AL)— 22 Your Majesty, you are that tree!(AM) You have become great and strong; your greatness has grown until it reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to distant parts of the earth.(AN)
23 “Your Majesty saw a holy one,(AO) a messenger, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump, bound with iron and bronze, in the grass of the field, while its roots remain in the ground. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven; let him live with the wild animals, until seven times pass by for him.’(AP)
24 “This is the interpretation, Your Majesty, and this is the decree(AQ) the Most High has issued against my lord the king: 25 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox and be drenched(AR) with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High(AS) is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.(AT) 26 The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots(AU) means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.(AV) 27 Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed.(AW) It may be that then your prosperity(AX) will continue.(AY)”
The Dream Is Fulfilled
28 All this happened(AZ) to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory(BA) of my majesty?”(BB)
31 Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.(BC) 32 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”(BD)
33 Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched(BE) with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.(BF)
34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity(BG) was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.(BH)
His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom(BI) endures from generation to generation.(BJ)
35 All the peoples of the earth
are regarded as nothing.(BK)
He does as he pleases(BL)
with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.

or say to him: “What have you done?”(BO)
36 At the same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor were returned to me for the glory of my kingdom.(BP) My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and became even greater than before. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt(BQ) and glorify(BR) the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just.(BS) And those who walk in pride(BT) he is able to humble.(BU)
