4 尼布甲尼撒王传谕天下各族、各邦、各语种的人：“愿你们大享平安！ 2 我乐意向你们述说至高的上帝对我所行的神迹奇事。
3 “祂的神迹何其伟大！
祂的奇事何其可畏！
祂的国度永远长存，
祂的统治直到万代。
4 “我尼布甲尼撒安居在家，在宫中享受荣华。 5 但我做了一个梦，令我害怕。我躺在床上的时候，脑中出现的情景和异象使我恐惧。 6 我便召巴比伦所有的智者来为我解梦。 7 术士、巫师、占星家和占卜者都来了，我将梦告诉他们，他们却不能给我解梦。 8 最后但以理来到我面前，他又名伯提沙撒——取自我神明的名，他有圣洁神明的灵。我将梦告诉他，说， 9 ‘术士的首领伯提沙撒啊，我知道你有圣洁神明的灵，任何奥秘都难不倒你。请你为我解释我梦中所见的异象。

19 但以理，又名伯提沙撒，一时非常惊讶，惶恐不安。王说：“伯提沙撒啊，不要因为这梦和梦的意思而惶恐不安。”伯提沙撒回答说：“我主啊，愿这梦发生在恨你的人身上，梦的意思应验在你的仇敌身上。 20 你梦见的树苍劲有力，高可参天，从地极都能看见。 21 它的叶子美丽，果实累累，可作众生的食物。野兽住在它的荫下，飞鸟宿在它的枝头。 22 王啊，这苍劲有力的树就是你，你的威名高达穹苍，你的权柄延至地极。 23 王看见圣洁的守望者从天而降，说，‘将这树砍倒、毁灭，但把树丕用铁环和铜环箍住留在野地的青草中，让他被天上的露水浸湿，与野兽一起吃草，达七年之久。’
24 “王啊，以下是梦的意思，是至高者裁定要临到我主我王的事： 25 你必从人群中被赶走，与野兽同住，像牛一样吃草，被天上的露水浸湿，达七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上万国，祂要把国赐给谁就赐给谁。 26 守望者命令留下树丕，表示等到你承认上天掌权后，你将重掌国权。 27 王啊，请接受我的劝谏，你要秉公行义，以断绝罪恶；怜悯穷人，以除掉罪过。这样，你的国运也许可以延续。”
梦兆应验
28 这一切事果然发生在尼布甲尼撒王身上。 29 十二个月后，他在巴比伦王宫的屋顶散步时， 30 说：“这宏伟的巴比伦岂不是我用大能建立为京都，以显我的威严和荣耀吗？” 31 话未说完，天上就有声音说：“尼布甲尼撒王啊，你听着，你已失去王权。 32 你必从人群中被赶走，与野兽同住，像牛一样吃草，达七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上万国，祂要把国赐给谁就赐给谁。” 33 这话立刻应验在尼布甲尼撒身上。他从人群中被赶走，像牛一样吃草，身体被天上的露水浸湿，直到他的头发长如鹰毛，指甲长如鸟爪。

Nebuchadnezzar’s Second Dream
4 [a] King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages that live throughout the earth: May you have abundant prosperity! 2 The signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me I am pleased to recount.
3 How great are his signs,
how mighty his wonders!
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and his sovereignty is from generation to generation.
4 [b] I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living at ease in my home and prospering in my palace. 5 I saw a dream that frightened me; my fantasies in bed and the visions of my head terrified me. 6 So I made a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, in order that they might tell me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the diviners came in, and I told them the dream, but they could not tell me its interpretation. 8 At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and who is endowed with a spirit of the holy gods[c]—and I told him the dream: 9 “O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that you are endowed with a spirit of the holy gods[d] and that no mystery is too difficult for you. Hear[e] the dream that I saw; tell me its interpretation.
10 [f] Upon my bed this is what I saw;
there was a tree at the center of the earth,
and its height was great.
11 The tree grew great and strong,
its top reached to heaven,
and it was visible to the ends of the whole earth.
12 Its foliage was beautiful,
its fruit abundant,
and it provided food for all.
The animals of the field found shade under it,
the birds of the air nested in its branches,
and from it all living beings were fed.
13 “I continued looking, in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and there was a holy watcher, coming down from heaven. 14 He cried aloud and said:
‘Cut down the tree and chop off its branches,
strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit.
Let the animals flee from beneath it
and the birds from its branches.
15 But leave its stump and roots in the ground,
with a band of iron and bronze,
in the tender grass of the field.
Let him be bathed with the dew of heaven,
and let his lot be with the animals of the field
in the grass of the earth.
16 Let his mind be changed from that of a human,
and let the mind of an animal be given to him.
And let seven times pass over him.
17 The sentence is rendered by decree of the watchers,
the decision is given by order of the holy ones,
in order that all who live may know
that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdom of mortals;
he gives it to whom he will
and sets over it the lowliest of human beings.’
18 “This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are unable to tell me the interpretation. You are able, however, for you are endowed with a spirit of the holy gods.”[g]
Daniel Interprets the Second Dream
19 Then Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar, was severely distressed for a while. His thoughts terrified him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or the interpretation terrify you.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you, and its interpretation for your enemies! 20 The tree that you saw, which grew great and strong, so that its top reached to heaven and was visible to the end of the whole earth, 21 whose foliage was beautiful and its fruit abundant, and which provided food for all, under which animals of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air had nests— 22 it is you, O king! You have grown great and strong. Your greatness has increased and reaches to heaven, and your sovereignty to the ends of the earth. 23 And whereas the king saw a holy watcher coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave its stump and roots in the ground, with a band of iron and bronze, in the grass of the field; and let him be bathed with the dew of heaven, and let his lot be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him’— 24 this is the interpretation, O king, and it is a decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king: 25 You shall be driven away from human society, and your dwelling shall be with the wild animals. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen, you shall be bathed with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that the Most High has sovereignty over the kingdom of mortals, and gives it to whom he will. 26 As it was commanded to leave the stump and roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be re-established for you from the time that you learn that Heaven is sovereign. 27 Therefore, O king, may my counsel be acceptable to you: atone for[h] your sins with righteousness, and your iniquities with mercy to the oppressed, so that your prosperity may be prolonged.”
Nebuchadnezzar’s Humiliation
28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 and the king said, “Is this not magnificent Babylon, which I have built as a royal capital by my mighty power and for my glorious majesty?” 31 While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: The kingdom has departed from you! 32 You shall be driven away from human society, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that the Most High has sovereignty over the kingdom of mortals and gives it to whom he will.” 33 Immediately the sentence was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven away from human society, ate grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew as long as eagles’ feathers and his nails became like birds’ claws.
Nebuchadnezzar Praises God
34 When that period was over, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me.
I blessed the Most High,
and praised and honored the one who lives forever.
For his sovereignty is an everlasting sovereignty,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,
and he does what he wills with the host of heaven
and the inhabitants of the earth.
There is no one who can stay his hand
or say to him, “What are you doing?”
36 At that time my reason returned to me; and my majesty and splendor were restored to me for the glory of my kingdom. My counselors and my lords sought me out, I was re-established over my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven,
for all his works are truth,
and his ways are justice;
and he is able to bring low
those who walk in pride.

3 Und es wurde von mir Befehl gegeben, alle Weisen Babels vor mich zu bringen, damit sie mir die Deutung des Traumes verkündeten.
4 Sogleich kamen die Traumdeuter, Wahrsager, Chaldäer und Zeichendeuter herbei, und ich erzählte vor ihnen den Traum; aber sie konnten mir seine Deutung nicht verkünden,
5 bis zuletzt Daniel vor mich kam, der Beltsazar heißt nach dem Namen meines Gottes, und in welchem der Geist der heiligen Götter ist; vor dem erzählte ich meinen Traum:
6 Beltsazar, du Oberster der Schriftkundigen, von dem ich weiß, dass der Geist der heiligen Götter in dir ist und dass kein Geheimnis dir zu schwierig ist, [vernimm] das Traumgesicht, das ich gesehen habe, und sage mir, was es bedeutet!
7 Das sind aber die Gesichte meines Hauptes auf meinem Lager: Ich schaute, und siehe, es stand ein Baum mitten auf der Erde, und seine Höhe war gewaltig.
8 Der Baum war groß und stark, und sein Wipfel reichte bis an den Himmel, und er war bis ans Ende der ganzen Erde zu sehen.
9 Sein Laub war schön und seine Frucht reichlich, und Nahrung für alle fand sich an ihm; unter ihm suchten die Tiere des Feldes Schatten, und die Vögel des Himmels wohnten in seinen Zweigen, und von ihm nährte sich alles Fleisch.
10 Ich schaute in den Gesichten meines Hauptes auf meinem Lager, und siehe, ein heiliger Wächter stieg vom Himmel herab;
11 und er rief mit gewaltiger Stimme und sprach: Haut den Baum um und schlagt seine Äste ab! Streift sein Laub ab und zerstreut seine Früchte; die Tiere unter ihm sollen wegfliehen und die Vögel von seinen Zweigen!
12 Aber seinen Wurzelstock sollt ihr in der Erde lassen, und zwar in Fesseln aus Eisen und Erz im Gras des Feldes, damit er vom Tau des Himmels benetzt werde und mit den Tieren Anteil habe an den Kräutern der Erde.
13 Sein menschliches Herz soll verwandelt werden, und es soll ihm ein tierisches Herz gegeben werden; und sieben Zeiten sollen über ihm vergehen.
14 Im Rat der Wächter wurde das beschlossen, und von den Heiligen wurde es besprochen und verlangt, damit die Lebenden erkennen, dass der Höchste über das Königtum der Menschen herrscht und es gibt, wem er will, und den Niedrigsten der Menschen darüber setzt!
15 Diesen Traum habe ich, der König Nebukadnezar, gesehen; du aber, Beltsazar, gib die Auslegung, weil alle Weisen meines Reiches nicht imstande sind, mir die Deutung zu verkünden; du aber kannst es, weil der Geist der heiligen Götter in dir ist!
Daniel deutet den Traum
16 Da blieb Daniel, den man Beltsazar nennt, eine Weile ganz starr, und seine Gedanken erschreckten ihn. Der König ergriff das Wort und sprach: Beltsazar, der Traum und seine Deutung dürfen dich nicht erschrecken! Beltsazar antwortete und sprach: Mein Herr, der Traum gelte deinen Hassern und seine Auslegung deinen Feinden!
17 Der Baum, den du gesehen hast, so groß und stark, dass sein Wipfel bis zum Himmel reichte, und der über die ganze Erde zu sehen war,
18 der so schönes Laub hatte und so reiche Früchte trug und an dem sich Nahrung für alle fand, unter dem sich die Tiere des Feldes aufhielten und in dessen Zweigen die Vögel des Himmels wohnten —
19 dieser [Baum] bist du, o König, der du so groß und stark geworden bist und dessen Majestät so groß ist, dass sie bis zum Himmel reicht, und deine Herrschaft bis ans Ende der Erde.
20 Dass aber der König einen heiligen Wächter vom Himmel herabsteigen sah und sagen hörte: Haut den Baum um und verderbt ihn; aber seinen Wurzelstock lasst in der Erde, und zwar in Fesseln von Eisen und Erz im Gras des Feldes, dass er vom Tau des Himmels benetzt werde und seinen Anteil habe mit den Tieren des Feldes, bis sieben Zeiten über ihm vergangen sind!,
21 das hat, o König, folgende Bedeutung, und dies ist der Beschluss des Höchsten, der über meinen Herrn, den König, ergangen ist:
22 Man wird dich von den Menschen ausstoßen, und bei den Tieren des Feldes wirst du dich aufhalten; und man wird dich mit Gras füttern wie die Ochsen und dich vom Tau des Himmels benetzen lassen; und es werden sieben Zeiten über dir vergehen, bis du erkennst, dass der Höchste Macht hat über das Königtum der Menschen und es gibt, wem er will!
23 Weil aber davon die Rede war, man solle den Wurzelstock des Baumes belassen, so wird auch dir dein Königtum wieder zuteil werden, sobald du erkennen wirst, dass der Himmel herrscht.
24 Darum, o König, lass dir meinen Rat gefallen und brich mit deinen Sünden durch Gerechtigkeit und mit deinen Missetaten durch Barmherzigkeit gegen Elende, wenn dein Wohlergehen dauerhaft sein soll!
Die Erniedrigung und Wiederherstellung Nebukadnezars
25 Dies alles ist über den König Nebukadnezar gekommen.
26 Zwölf Monate später nämlich erging er sich auf seinem königlichen Palast in Babel.
27 Da begann der König und sprach: Ist das nicht das große Babel, das ich mir erbaut habe zur königlichen Residenz mit meiner gewaltigen Macht und zu Ehren meiner Majestät?
28 Noch war das Wort im Mund des Königs, da erklang eine Stimme vom Himmel herab: Dir wird gesagt, König Nebukadnezar: Das Königreich ist von dir genommen!
29 Und man wird dich von den Menschen verstoßen, und du sollst dich bei den Tieren des Feldes aufhalten; mit Gras wird man dich füttern wie die Ochsen, und sieben Zeiten sollen über dir vergehen, bis du erkennst, dass der Höchste Macht hat über das Königtum der Menschen und es gibt, wem er will!
30 Im selben Augenblick erfüllte sich das Wort an Nebukadnezar: Er wurde von den Menschen ausgestoßen, fraß Gras wie ein Ochse, und sein Leib wurde vom Tau des Himmels benetzt, bis sein Haar so lang wurde wie Adlerfedern und seine Nägel wie Vogelkrallen.
31 Aber nach Verlauf der Zeit hob ich, Nebukadnezar, meine Augen zum Himmel empor, und mein Verstand kehrte zu mir zurück. Da lobte ich den Höchsten und pries und verherrlichte den, der ewig lebt, dessen Herrschaft eine ewige Herrschaft ist und dessen Reich von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht währt;
32 gegen welchen alle, die auf Erden wohnen, wie nichts zu rechnen sind; er verfährt mit dem Heer des Himmels und mit denen, die auf Erden wohnen, wie er will, und es gibt niemand, der seiner Hand wehren oder zu ihm sagen dürfte: Was machst du?
33 Zur selben Zeit kam mir mein Verstand zurück, und mit der Ehre meines Königtums kehrte auch meine Herrlichkeit und mein Glanz zurück; meine Räte und meine Großen suchten mich auf, und ich wurde wieder über mein Königreich gesetzt und erhielt noch größere Macht.
34 Nun lobe und erhebe und verherrliche ich, Nebukadnezar, den König des Himmels; denn all sein Tun ist richtig, und seine Wege sind gerecht; wer aber hochmütig wandelt, den kann er demütigen!«

4 Nebuchadnezzar the king,
to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth:
Peace be multiplied to you.
2 It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked toward me.
3 How great are his signs!
How mighty are his wonders!
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
His dominion is from generation to generation.
4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. 5 I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in; and I told them the dream, but they didn’t make known to me its interpretation. 8 But at last, Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. I told the dream before him, saying,
9 “Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation. 10 These were the visions of my head on my bed: I saw, and behold, a tree in the middle of the earth; and its height was great. 11 The tree grew and was strong. Its height reached to the sky and its sight to the end of all the earth. 12 Its leaves were beautiful, and it had much fruit, and in it was food for all. The animals of the field had shade under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.
13 “I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a holy watcher came down from the sky. 14 He cried aloud and said this: ‘Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches! Shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit! Let the animals get away from under it and the birds from its branches. 15 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky. Let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth. 16 Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let an animal’s heart be given to him. Then let seven times pass over him.
17 “‘The sentence is by the decree of the watchers and the demand by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.’
18 “This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream or the interpretation, trouble you.”
Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries. 20 The tree that you saw, which grew and was strong, whose height reached to the sky and its sight to all the earth; 21 whose leaves were beautiful and its fruit plentiful, and in it was food for all; under which the animals of the field lived, and on whose branches the birds of the sky had their habitation— 22 it is you, O king, that have grown and become strong; for your greatness has grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.
23 “Whereas the king saw a holy watcher coming down from the sky and saying, ‘Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky. Let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him.’
24 “This is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come on my lord the king: 25 You will be driven from men and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen, and will be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will. 26 Whereas it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be sure to you after you know that Heaven rules. 27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.”
28 All this came on the King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon. 30 The king spoke and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”
31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, a voice came from the sky, saying, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: ‘The kingdom has departed from you. 32 You shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen. Seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.’”
33 This was fulfilled the same hour on Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; and his body was wet with the dew of the sky until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.
34 At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who lives forever,
for his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
and his kingdom from generation to generation.
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing;
and he does according to his will in the army of heaven,
and among the inhabitants of the earth;
and no one can stop his hand,
or ask him, “What are you doing?”
36 At the same time my understanding returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added to me. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.
