느부갓네살왕의 두 번째 꿈
4 느부갓네살왕은 다음과 같은 조서를 내렸다: 천하의 모든 나라와 민족들에 게 평안이 있기를 바란다.
2 가장 높으신 하나님이 나를 위해 행하신 놀라운 일과 기적에 대하여 내가 여러 민족들에게 말하는 것을 기쁨으로 여긴다.
3 믿어지지 않는 기적과 놀라운 일을 보여 주신 하나님, 그는 영원한 왕이 되어 대대로 다스리실 것이다.
4 나 느부갓네살왕은 궁전에서 편안히 지내다가
5 무서운 꿈을 꾸었는데 나는 잠자리에 누워 생각하는 중에 이상한 환상으로 몹시 번민하였다.
6 그래서 내가 바빌론에 있는 모든 박사들을 불러 그 꿈을 해몽하라고 명령하였다.
7 점쟁이와 마법사와 무당과 점성가들이 들어왔을 때 내가 그 꿈을 말했으나 그들은 내 꿈을 해몽하지 못하였다.
8 그 후에 내 신의 이름을 따서 벨드사살이라고 하는 다니엘이 들어왔다. 그에게는 거룩한 신들의 영이 있었다. 그래서 나는 그에게 이렇게 말하였다.
9 “박사장 벨드사살아, 나는 네 안에 거룩한 신들의 영이 있어 네가 어려워서 풀지 못할 신비스러운 일은 없는 줄로 알고 있다. 그러니 너는 내 꿈을 해몽하라.
10 내가 잠자리에 누워서 본 환상은 이렇다. 내가 보니 땅의 중앙에 큰 나무 하나가 있었다.
11 그 나무는 점점 크게 자라서 그 끝이 하늘에 닿아 세상의 모든 사람들이 볼 수 있을 정도였다.
12 그 잎사귀는 아름답고 그 가지에는 온 세상 사람들이 다 먹을 수 있을 만큼 많은 과일이 주렁주렁 달렸으며 들짐승이 그 그늘에서 쉬고 공중의 새들이 그 가지에 깃들이며 온 세상 사람들이 그 과일을 먹었다.
13 “내가 또 잠자리에 누워 환상 가운데 보니 하늘에서 [a]한 천사가 내려와
14 큰 소리로 이렇게 외쳤다. ‘그 나무를 베고 가지를 찍고 잎사귀를 떨며 그 열매를 흩어 버리고 짐승들을 그 나무 아래서 몰아내고 새들을 그 가지에서 쫓아내어라.
15 그러나 그루터기는 땅에 남겨 두고 철과 놋줄로 잡아맨 채 풀밭에 그대로 두어라. 그가 하늘의 이슬을 맞고 땅의 식물 가운데서 짐승과 함께 살게 하라.
16 그가 [b]7년 동안 사람의 마음을 갖지 않고 짐승의 마음을 갖게 될 것이다.
17 이것은 순찰하는 천사들이 선언한 것이요 거룩한 자들이 명령한 것이니 가장 높으신 하나님이 인간 나라를 다스리시고 자기 뜻대로 누구에게든지 나라를 주시며 그가 원하시면 가장 천한 자도 왕위에 앉힌다는 사실을 온 세상 사람들이 알게 하기 위해서이다.’
18 “이것이 나 느부갓네살왕이 꾼 꿈이다. 벨드사살아, 이제 너는 이 꿈을 해몽하라. 이 나라의 모든 박사들이 이 꿈을 해몽하지 못했지만 너에게는 거룩한 신들의 영이 있으니 너는 이 꿈을 풀어낼 수가 있다.”
다니엘의 해몽
19 벨드사살이라는 다니엘은 이 말을 듣자 얼마 동안 당황하며 말을 하지 못하였다. 그래서 내가 “벨드사살아, 너는 이 꿈과 해석 때문에 당황하지 말아라” 하자 그가 이렇게 대답하였다. “대왕이시여, 그 꿈과 해석이 대왕께서 미워하시는 원수들에게 관한 것이기를 바랍니다.
20 왕이 보신 그 나무가 크게 자라서 그 끝이 하늘에 닿아 세상 모든 사람들이 다 볼 수 있게 되었으며
21 그 잎사귀는 아름답고 그 가지에는 온 세상 사람들이 다 먹을 수 있을 만큼 많은 과일이 주렁주렁 달렸으며 들짐승이 그 그늘에서 쉬고 공중의 새들이 그 가지에 깃들였다고 하셨는데
22 왕이시여, 이 나무는 바로 왕이십니다. 대왕께서는 점점 강성해져서 왕의 위대하심이 하늘에 닿았고 왕의 권세는 땅 끝까지 미쳤습니다.
23 또 대왕께서 보시는 가운데 하늘에서 한 천사가 내려와 ‘그 나무를 베어 없애 버려라. 그러나 그루터기는 땅에 남겨 두고 철과 놋줄로 잡아맨 채 풀밭에 그대로 두어라. 이 사람이 하늘의 이슬을 맞고 7년 동안 들짐승과 함께 살게 하라’ 고 했는데
24 왕이시여, 그 해석은 이렇습니다. 이것은 가장 높으신 하나님이 왕에게 일어날 일을 선언하신 것입니다.
25 대왕께서는 인간 사회에서 쫓겨나 들짐승과 함께 살게 될 것이며 7년 동안 소처럼 풀을 먹고 이슬에 젖을 것입니다. 그때 왕은 가장 높으신 하나님이 인간 나라를 다스리시며 누구에게든지 그가 원하는 자에게 나라를 준다는 사실을 알게 될 것입니다.
26 또 천사들이 그 그루터기는 남겨 두라고 명령하였는데 이것은 하나님이 온 세상을 다스리신다는 사실을 왕이 인정할 때 대왕께서 나라를 되찾게 될 것을 뜻합니다.
27 그러므로 왕이시여, 제 말을 들으십시오. 지금부터라도 죄를 버리고 옳은 일을 행하며 가난한 자에게 자비를 베푸십시오. 그러면 왕이 계속 번영을 누리실 것입니다.”
꿈의 성취
28 이 모든 일은 나 느부갓네살왕에게 일어난 일이다.
29 그로부터 열두 달 후에 [c]내가 바빌론의 궁전 옥상에서 거닐다가
30 “이 큰 바빌론성은 영광과 위엄을 과시하기 위해서 내가 내 능력과 권세로 건설한 이 나라의 수도가 아닌가!” 하였다.
31 이 말이 미처 끝나기도 전에 하늘에서 이런 음성이 들려왔다. “느부갓네살왕아, 내가 하는 말을 들어라. 너의 왕권은 너에게서 떠났다.
32 네가 인간 사회에서 쫓겨나 7년 동안 들짐승과 함께 살며 소처럼 풀을 먹을 것이다. 그러면 너는 가장 높으신 하나님이 인간 나라를 다스리시며 누구에게든지 그가 원하는 자에게 나라를 준다는 사실을 알게 될 것이다.”
33 그 말이 나 느부갓네살왕에게 즉시 이루어져 나는 인간 사회에서 쫓겨나 소처럼 풀을 먹으며 몸은 하늘의 이슬에 젖고 머리털은 독수리 털처럼 되었으며 내 손톱은 새 발톱처럼 되었다.
34 7년이 다 지났을 때 내가 하늘을 우러러보았더니 내 정신이 되돌아왔다. 그래서 내가 가장 높으신 하나님께 경배하고 영원히 사시는 그분에게 이렇게 찬양하였다.
“그는 영원히 다스리시며
그의 나라는
대대로 지속될 것이다.
35 그는 세상의 모든 사람들을
아무것도 아닌 것처럼 여기시며
하늘에 있는 천사들이나
땅에 있는 사람에게
자기 뜻대로 행하시니
그의 뜻을 거역하거나
그가 행하시는 일을
물어 볼 자가 아무도 없구나.”
36 내가 이성을 되찾게 되었을 때 내 명예와 위엄과 내 나라의 영광이 나에게 되돌아왔으며 내 신하들과 귀족들이 나를 영접하고 나는 다시 왕위에 앉아 이전보다 더 큰 영광을 누리게 되었다.
37 그래서 나 느부갓네살은 지금 하늘의 왕을 찬양하며 높이고 그분에게 영광을 돌리고 있다. 그는 진실하고 의로운 일을 행하시며 교만한 자를 낮추시는 분이시다.

尼布甲尼撒的第二個夢
4 尼布甲尼撒王傳諭天下各族、各邦、各語種的人：「願你們大享平安！ 2 我樂意向你們述說至高的上帝對我所行的神蹟奇事。
3 「祂的神蹟何其偉大！
祂的奇事何其可畏！
祂的國度永遠長存，
祂的統治直到萬代。
4 「我尼布甲尼撒安居在家，在宮中享受榮華。 5 但我做了一個夢，令我害怕。我躺在床上的時候，腦中出現的情景和異象使我恐懼。 6 我便召巴比倫所有的智者來為我解夢。 7 術士、巫師、占星家和占卜者都來了，我將夢告訴他們，他們卻不能給我解夢。 8 最後但以理來到我面前，他又名伯提沙撒——取自我神明的名，他有聖潔神明的靈。我將夢告訴他，說， 9 『術士的首領伯提沙撒啊，我知道你有聖潔神明的靈，任何奧秘都難不倒你。請你為我解釋我夢中所見的異象。
10 「『以下是我躺在床上時腦中出現的異象：我看見大地中央有棵非常高大的樹。 11 這樹長得蒼勁有力，高可參天，從地極都能看見。 12 它的葉子美麗，果實纍纍，可作眾生的食物。野獸在它的蔭下躺臥，飛鳥在它的枝頭棲息，一切生靈都從它那裡得到食物。
13 「『我躺在床上時腦中出現了異象，我看見一位聖潔的守望者從天而降。 14 他大聲說，砍倒那棵樹，削掉它的枝子，剝光它的葉子，拋散它的果子，使野獸逃離樹下，飛鳥離開枝頭。 15 但把樹丕留在地裡，用鐵環和銅環箍住他留在野地的青草中，讓他被天上的露水浸濕，與野獸一起吃草。 16 要改變他的人心，給他一個獸心，達七年之久。 17 這是守望者的命令，是聖者的決定，要讓眾生知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰，即使是最卑微的人。』
18 「這就是我尼布甲尼撒王所做的夢。伯提沙撒啊，你要為我解夢，因為我國中所有的智者都不能為我解夢。但是你能，因為你有聖潔神明的靈。」
但以理解夢
19 但以理，又名伯提沙撒，一時非常驚訝，惶恐不安。王說：「伯提沙撒啊，不要因為這夢和夢的意思而惶恐不安。」伯提沙撒回答說：「我主啊，願這夢發生在恨你的人身上，夢的意思應驗在你的仇敵身上。 20 你夢見的樹蒼勁有力，高可參天，從地極都能看見。 21 它的葉子美麗，果實纍纍，可作眾生的食物。野獸住在它的蔭下，飛鳥宿在它的枝頭。 22 王啊，這蒼勁有力的樹就是你，你的威名高達穹蒼，你的權柄延至地極。 23 王看見聖潔的守望者從天而降，說，『將這樹砍倒、毀滅，但把樹丕用鐵環和銅環箍住留在野地的青草中，讓他被天上的露水浸濕，與野獸一起吃草，達七年之久。』
24 「王啊，以下是夢的意思，是至高者裁定要臨到我主我王的事： 25 你必從人群中被趕走，與野獸同住，像牛一樣吃草，被天上的露水浸濕，達七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰。 26 守望者命令留下樹丕，表示等到你承認上天掌權後，你將重掌國權。 27 王啊，請接受我的勸諫，你要秉公行義，以斷絕罪惡；憐憫窮人，以除掉罪過。這樣，你的國運也許可以延續。」
夢兆應驗
28 這一切事果然發生在尼布甲尼撒王身上。 29 十二個月後，他在巴比倫王宮的屋頂散步時， 30 說：「這宏偉的巴比倫豈不是我用大能建立為京都，以顯我的威嚴和榮耀嗎？」 31 話未說完，天上就有聲音說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，你聽著，你已失去王權。 32 你必從人群中被趕走，與野獸同住，像牛一樣吃草，達七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰。」 33 這話立刻應驗在尼布甲尼撒身上。他從人群中被趕走，像牛一樣吃草，身體被天上的露水浸濕，直到他的頭髮長如鷹毛，指甲長如鳥爪。
34 「七年後，我尼布甲尼撒舉目望天，恢復了神智，便稱頌至高者，讚美、尊崇永活者。
「祂的統治永無窮盡，
祂的國度直到萬代。
35 世人都微不足道，
祂在天軍和世人中獨行其道，
無人能攔阻祂的手，
或質問祂的作為。
36 「那時，我恢復了神智，也恢復了我的威嚴和榮耀，重現我國度的輝煌。我的謀士和大臣都來朝見我，我重掌國權，勢力比以前更大。 37 現在我尼布甲尼撒頌讚、尊崇、敬奉天上的王，因為祂的作為公正，祂行事公平，能夠貶抑行為驕傲的人。」

Nebuchadnezzar’s Second Dream
4 [a] King Nebuchadnez′zar to all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you! 2 It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has wrought toward me.
3 How great are his signs,
how mighty his wonders!
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and his dominion is from generation to generation.
4 [b] I, Nebuchadnez′zar, was at ease in my house and prospering in my palace. 5 I had a dream which made me afraid; as I lay in bed the fancies and the visions of my head alarmed me. 6 Therefore I made a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chalde′ans, and the astrologers came in; and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me its interpretation. 8 At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshaz′zar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods[c]—and I told him the dream, saying, 9 “O Belteshaz′zar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods[d] is in you and that no mystery is difficult for you, here is[e] the dream which I saw; tell me its interpretation. 10 The visions of my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth; and its height was great. 11 The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth. 12 Its leaves were fair and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. The beasts of the field found shade under it, and the birds of the air dwelt in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.
13 “I saw in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven. 14 He cried aloud and said thus, ‘Hew down the tree and cut off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit; let the beasts flee from under it and the birds from its branches. 15 But leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, amid the tender grass of the field. Let him be wet with the dew of heaven; let his lot be with the beasts in the grass of the earth; 16 let his mind be changed from a man’s, and let a beast’s mind be given to him; and let seven times pass over him. 17 The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men, and gives it to whom he will, and sets over it the lowliest of men.’ 18 This dream I, King Nebuchadnez′zar, saw. And you, O Belteshaz′zar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation, but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods[f] is in you.”
Daniel Interprets the Second Dream
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshaz′zar, was dismayed for a moment, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king said, “Belteshaz′zar, let not the dream or the interpretation alarm you.” Belteshaz′zar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you and its interpretation for your enemies! 20 The tree you saw, which grew and became strong, so that its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth; 21 whose leaves were fair and its fruit abundant, and in which was food for all; under which beasts of the field found shade, and in whose branches the birds of the air dwelt— 22 it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. Your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth. 23 And whereas the king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Hew down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let him be wet with the dew of heaven; and let his lot be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him’; 24 this is the interpretation, O king: It is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king, 25 that you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and you shall be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men, and gives it to whom he will. 26 And as it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be sure for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules. 27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you; break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your tranquillity.”
Nebuchadnezzar’s Humiliation
28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnez′zar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 and the king said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?” 31 While the words were still in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, “O King Nebuchadnez′zar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you, 32 and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; and you shall be made to eat grass like an ox; and seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.” 33 Immediately the word was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnez′zar. He was driven from among men, and ate grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair grew as long as eagles’ feathers, and his nails were like birds’ claws.
Nebuchadnezzar Praises God
34 At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnez′zar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives for ever;
for his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;
35 all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing;
and he does according to his will in the host of heaven
and among the inhabitants of the earth;
and none can stay his hand
or say to him, “What doest thou?”
36 At the same time my reason returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnez′zar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.
