把握 神所赐的时机
9 我留心这一切事，并加以阐明：就是义人、智慧人和他们所作的，都在 神手里。临到他们的一切，无论是爱是恨，人都不领悟。 2 众人的命运都是一样的：义人与恶人、好人与坏人、洁净的与不洁净的、献祭的与不献祭的，所遭遇的都是一样的；好人怎样，罪人也怎样；起誓的怎样，怕起誓的也怎样。
3 在日光之下所发生的一切事，有一件令人遗憾的，就是众人的命运都是一样的，并且世人的心充满邪恶，一生心怀狂妄，后来都归到死人那里去。 4 凡有生命的（“凡有生命的”原文作“凡与所有活人有关联的”），就有盼望，因为活狗比死狮更好。 5 活人还知道自己必死，死人却一无所知，而且再得不到酬劳，他们也被遗忘。 6 他们的爱，他们的恨，他们的嫉妒，都早已消失了，在日光之下所发生的一切事，永远也没有他们的分了。
7 你只管快快乐乐地去吃你的饭，怀着高兴的心去喝你的酒，因为 神已经悦纳了你所作的。 8 你当经常穿著白色的衣袍，头上也不要缺少膏油。
9 在你一生虚空的年日中，就是 神在日光之下赐你虚空的年日中，你要和你所爱的妻子享受人生，因为那是你一生在日光之下从劳碌中所得的分。 10 凡是你手可作的，都当尽力去作；因为在你所要去的阴间里，既没有工作，又没有筹谋；没有知识，也没有智慧。
11 我又看见在日光之下，跑得快的未必得奖，勇士未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，精明的未必致富，博学的未必得人赏识，因为时机和际遇左右众人。 12 原来人并不知道自己的时机，正像鱼被恶网圈住，鸟被网罗捉住，险恶的时机忽然临到世人身上的时候，世人也照样陷在其中。
智慧胜过武力
13 在日光之下，我又看见一样智慧，觉得很有意义： 14 有一座小城，人数不多；有一个大君王来进攻，把它包围，建造巨大的高垒攻城。 15 城里有一个贫穷但有智慧的人，用他的智慧救了那城。然而，却没有人记念那穷人。 16 于是我说：“智慧胜过武力”，但是那个穷人的智慧被藐视，他的话也没有人听从。 17 听智慧人安安静静说出来的话，胜过听管理愚昧者的人的喊叫。 18 智慧胜于战斗的武器，但一个罪人能破坏许多好事。

Todo está en manos de Dios
9 Pues bien, he tomado todas estas cosas en mi corazón y declaro[a] todo esto: que los justos y los sabios y sus hechos están en la mano de Dios(A). Los hombres no saben(B) ni de amor ni de odio(C), aunque todo está delante de ellos.
2 A todos les sucede lo mismo(D):
Hay una misma suerte para el justo y para el impío;
para el bueno[b], para el limpio y para el inmundo;
para el que ofrece sacrificio y para el que no sacrifica.
Como el bueno, así es el pecador;
como el que jura, así es el que teme jurar[c](E).
3 Este mal hay en todo lo que se hace bajo el sol: que hay una misma suerte para todos(F). Además, el corazón de los hijos de los hombres está lleno de maldad(G) y hay locura(H) en su corazón toda su vida. Después se van a los muertos. 4 Para cualquiera que está unido con los vivos, hay esperanza; ciertamente un perro vivo es mejor que un león muerto.
5 Porque los que viven saben que han de morir,
pero los muertos no saben nada(I),
ni tienen ya ninguna recompensa,
porque su memoria está olvidada(J).
6 En verdad, su amor, su odio y su celo ya han perecido,
y nunca más tendrán parte en todo lo que se hace(K) bajo el sol.
7 Vete, come tu pan con gozo,
y bebe tu vino con corazón alegre,
porque Dios ya ha aprobado tus obras(L).
8 En todo tiempo sean blancas tus ropas(M),
y que no falte ungüento sobre tu cabeza(N).
9 Goza de la vida con la mujer que amas, todos los días de tu vida fugaz[d](O) que Él te ha dado bajo el sol, todos los días de tu vanidad, porque esta es tu parte en la vida y en el trabajo con que te afanas bajo el sol(P).
10 Todo lo que tu mano halle para hacer, hazlo según tus fuerzas(Q); porque no hay actividad ni propósito ni conocimiento ni sabiduría(R) en el Seol[e](S) adonde vas.
11 Vi además que bajo el sol
no es de los ligeros la carrera(T),
ni de los valientes[f] la batalla(U);
y que tampoco de los sabios es el pan,
ni de los entendidos las riquezas(V),
ni de los hábiles el favor,
sino que el tiempo y la suerte les llegan a todos(W).
12 Porque el hombre tampoco conoce su tiempo(X):
como peces atrapados en la red traicionera,
y como aves apresadas en la trampa(Y),
así son atrapados los hijos de los hombres(Z) en el tiempo malo
cuando este cae de repente sobre ellos(AA).
Sabiduría y necedad
13 También esto llegué a ver como sabiduría bajo el sol, y me impresionó[g]: 14 Había una pequeña ciudad con pocos hombres en ella. Llegó[h] un gran rey, la cercó y construyó contra ella grandes baluartes; 15 pero en ella se hallaba un hombre pobre y sabio(AB); y él con su sabiduría libró[i] la ciudad(AC); sin embargo, nadie se acordó de aquel hombre pobre(AD). 16 Y yo me dije:
Mejor es la sabiduría que la fuerza(AE);
pero la sabiduría del pobre se desprecia
y no se presta atención a sus palabras.
17 Las palabras del sabio oídas en quietud son mejores
que los gritos del gobernante entre los necios(AF).
18 Mejor es la sabiduría que las armas de guerra(AG),
pero un solo pecador destruye mucho bien(AH).

9 Ciertamente he dado mi corazón a todas estas cosas, para declarar todo esto: que los justos y los sabios, y sus obras, están en la mano de Dios; que sea amor o que sea odio, no lo saben los hombres; todo está delante de ellos. 2 Todo acontece de la misma manera a todos; un mismo suceso ocurre al justo y al impío; al bueno, al limpio y al no limpio; al que sacrifica, y al que no sacrifica; como al bueno, así al que peca; al que jura, como al que teme el juramento. 3 Este mal hay entre todo lo que se hace debajo del sol, que un mismo suceso acontece a todos, y también que el corazón de los hijos de los hombres está lleno de mal y de insensatez en su corazón durante su vida; y después de esto se van a los muertos. 4 Aún hay esperanza para todo aquel que está entre los vivos; porque mejor es perro vivo que león muerto. 5 Porque los que viven saben que han de morir; pero los muertos nada saben, ni tienen más paga; porque su memoria es puesta en olvido. 6 También su amor y su odio y su envidia fenecieron ya; y nunca más tendrán parte en todo lo que se hace debajo del sol.
7 Anda, y come tu pan con gozo, y bebe tu vino con alegre corazón; porque tus obras ya son agradables a Dios.
8 En todo tiempo sean blancos tus vestidos, y nunca falte ungüento sobre tu cabeza.
9 Goza de la vida con la mujer que amas, todos los días de la vida de tu vanidad que te son dados debajo del sol, todos los días de tu vanidad; porque esta es tu parte en la vida, y en tu trabajo con que te afanas debajo del sol. 10 Todo lo que te viniere a la mano para hacer, hazlo según tus fuerzas; porque en el Seol, adonde vas, no hay obra, ni trabajo, ni ciencia, ni sabiduría.
11 Me volví y vi debajo del sol, que ni es de los ligeros la carrera, ni la guerra de los fuertes, ni aun de los sabios el pan, ni de los prudentes las riquezas, ni de los elocuentes el favor; sino que tiempo y ocasión acontecen a todos. 12 Porque el hombre tampoco conoce su tiempo; como los peces que son presos en la mala red, y como las aves que se enredan en lazo, así son enlazados los hijos de los hombres en el tiempo malo, cuando cae de repente sobre ellos.
13 También vi esta sabiduría debajo del sol, la cual me parece grande: 14 una pequeña ciudad, y pocos hombres en ella; y viene contra ella un gran rey, y la asedia y levanta contra ella grandes baluartes; 15 y se halla en ella un hombre pobre, sabio, el cual libra a la ciudad con su sabiduría; y nadie se acordaba de aquel hombre pobre. 16 Entonces dije yo: Mejor es la sabiduría que la fuerza, aunque la ciencia del pobre sea menospreciada, y no sean escuchadas sus palabras.
17 Las palabras del sabio escuchadas en quietud, son mejores que el clamor del señor entre los necios. 18 Mejor es la sabiduría que las armas de guerra; pero un pecador destruye mucho bien.

9 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
2 All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
