New International Version
10 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell,
so a little folly(A) outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left.
3 Even as fools walk along the road,
they lack sense
and show everyone(B) how stupid they are.
4 If a ruler’s anger rises against you,
do not leave your post;(C)
calmness can lay great offenses to rest.(D)
5 There is an evil I have seen under the sun,
the sort of error that arises from a ruler:
6 Fools are put in many high positions,(E)
while the rich occupy the low ones.
7 I have seen slaves on horseback,
while princes go on foot like slaves.(F)
8 Whoever digs a pit may fall into it;(G)
whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.(H)
9 Whoever quarries stones may be injured by them;
whoever splits logs may be endangered by them.(I)
10 If the ax is dull
and its edge unsharpened,
more strength is needed,
but skill will bring success.
11 If a snake bites before it is charmed,
the charmer receives no fee.(J)
12 Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious,(K)
but fools are consumed by their own lips.(L)
13 At the beginning their words are folly;
at the end they are wicked madness—
14 and fools multiply words.(M)
No one knows what is coming—
who can tell someone else what will happen after them?(N)
15 The toil of fools wearies them;
they do not know the way to town.
16 Woe to the land whose king was a servant[a](O)
and whose princes feast in the morning.
17 Blessed is the land whose king is of noble birth
and whose princes eat at a proper time—
for strength and not for drunkenness.(P)
18 Through laziness, the rafters sag;
because of idle hands, the house leaks.(Q)
19 A feast is made for laughter,
wine(R) makes life merry,
and money is the answer for everything.
20 Do not revile the king(S) even in your thoughts,
or curse the rich in your bedroom,
because a bird in the sky may carry your words,
and a bird on the wing may report what you say.

10 LAS moscas muertas hacen heder y dar mal olor el perfume del perfumista: así una pequeña locura, al estimado por sabiduría y honra.
2 El corazón del sabio está á su mano derecha; mas el corazón del necio á su mano izquierda.
3 Y aun mientras va el necio por el camino, fálta le, su cordura, y dice á todos, que es necio.
4 Si el espíritu del príncipe se exaltare contra ti, no dejes tu lugar; porque la lenidad hará cesar grandes ofensas.
5 Hay un mal que debajo del sol he visto, á manera de error emanado del príncipe:
6 La necedad está colocada en grandes alturas, y los ricos están sentados en lugar bajo.
7 Vi siervos en caballos, y príncipes que andaban como siervos sobre la tierra.
8 El que hiciere el hoyo caerá en él; y el que aportillare el vallado, morderále la serpiente.
9 El que mudare las piedras, trabajo tendrá en ellas: el que cortare la leña, en ella peligrará.
10 Si se embotare el hierro, y su filo no fuere amolado, hay que añadir entonces más fuerza: empero excede la bondad de la sabiduría.
11 Muerde la serpiente cuando no está encantada, y el lenguaraz no es mejor.
12 Las palabras de la boca del sabio son gracia; mas los labios del necio causan su propia ruina.
13 El principio de las palabras de su boca es necedad; y el fin de su charla nocivo desvarío.
14 El necio multiplica palabras: no sabe hombre lo que ha de ser; ¿y quién le hará saber lo que después de él será?
15 El trabajo de los necios los fatiga; porque no saben por dónde ir á la ciudad.
16 Ay de ti, tierra, cuando tu rey es muchacho, y tus príncipes comen de mañana!
17 Bienaventurada, tú, tierra, cuando tu rey es hijo de nobles, y tus príncipes comen á su hora, por refección, y no por el beber!
18 Por la pereza se cae la techumbre, y por flojedad de manos se llueve la casa.
19 Por el placer se hace el convite, y el vino alegra los vivos: y el dinero responde á todo.
20 Ni aun en tu pensamiento digas mal del rey, ni en los secretos de tu cámara digas mal del rico; porque las aves del cielo llevarán la voz, y las que tienen alas harán saber la palabra.

10 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.
3 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.
4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.
5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.
7 I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
9 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.
10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.
12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
14 A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
15 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.
20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

2 Lòng người khôn ngoan hướng về điều phải,
Lòng kẻ ngu dại hướng về điều sai trái.
3 Ngay khi đi ngoài đường phố,
Kẻ ngu dại thiếu trí khôn,
Tỏ cho mọi người biết sự ngu dại của mình.
4 Nếu người lãnh đạo nổi giận quát tháo,
Chớ vội bỏ đi,
Vì thái độ ôn hòa tháo gỡ được những lỗi lầm nghiêm trọng.
5 Tôi nhận thấy có một điều tệ hại nghiêm trọng trên đời,
Là sự lầm lỗi phát xuất từ các bậc cầm quyền:
6 Kẻ khờ dại được cất nhắc lên chức vụ cao,
Còn người giàu sang lại ngồi chỗ thấp hèn.
7 Tôi cũng thấy nô lệ cưỡi ngựa,
Trong khi các bậc vương hầu đi bộ như nô lệ.
8 Ai đào hố có thể bị rơi xuống hố,
Ai phá đổ bờ tường có thể bị rắn cắn.
9 Ai đập đá có thể bị đá đè,
Ai bổ củi có thể bị củi gây thương tích.
10 Một lưỡi rìu cùn mà không mài dũa bén,
Ắt phải phí nhiều sức,
Nhưng sự khôn ngoan
Giúp ích cho sự thành công.
11 Nếu bị rắn cắn trước khi yếm,
Thì thầy bùa rắn không còn cần thiết nữa.
12 Lời nói của người khôn ngoan đem lại lòng kính trọng,
Còn môi miệng kẻ dại gây tai hại cho người.
13 Kẻ dại khởi đầu bằng lời nói xằng bậy,
Và kết thúc bằng lời lẽ ngông cuồng,
14 Kẻ dại lắm lời, nói mãi không ngừng.
Nhưng nào ai biết được những gì sẽ xảy ra,
Cũng không ai nói trước được điều gì sẽ xảy ra sau khi mình nhắm mắt lìa đời.
15 Kẻ dại mệt mỏi vì công việc mình làm
Đến nỗi không biết đường về thành.

16 Khốn cho một quốc gia có vua còn quá trẻ,
Và quan quyền tiệc tùng từ lúc rạng đông!
17 Phước cho một đất nước có vua thuộc dòng dõi quý tộc,
Các quan quyền ăn uống điều độ,
Cốt để bổ sức, chứ không phải vì say sưa.
18 Do lười biếng, tay buông xuôi,
Mà nhà dột, cột xiêu.
19 Bữa ăn ngon làm thỏa dạ,
Rượu giúp cho đời thêm vui,
Nhưng phải có tiền mới có được cả hai.
20 Đừng nguyền rủa vua, ngay cả trong tâm tư,
Cũng đừng nguyền rủa kẻ giàu, dù ở trong phòng ngủ,
Vì chim trời có thể mang lời nói đi xa,
Và loài có cánh có thể loan truyền tin tức.
