10 几只死苍蝇能使做香料者的膏油发霉变臭，一点点愚昧比智慧和荣誉的影响更大。 2 智慧人的心向右，愚昧人的心偏左。 3 愚昧人连走路的时候，也显出无知；他对每一个人表现出他是个愚昧人（“他对每一个人表现出他是个愚昧人”或译：“他称每一个人都是愚昧的”）。 4 如果掌权者向你发怒，你不要离开原位，因为柔顺能免大过。
5 在日光之下我看见一件憾事，好象是出于官长无意的错误， 6 就是愚昧人得居众多高位，富有的人却处卑位。 7 我见过奴仆骑马，贵族却像奴仆一样在地上步行。
8 挖陷阱的，自己掉进去；拆墙垣的，有蛇来咬他。 9 采石的，被石打伤；劈柴的，被柴损害。 10 斧头若钝了，还不把斧刃磨快，就必多费力气；智慧的好处在于助人成功。 11 未行法术先被蛇咬，那么，法术对行法术的人就毫无用处。
12 智慧人的口，说出恩言；愚昧人的嘴，却吞灭自己。 13 愚昧人的话开头是愚昧，结尾是邪恶狂妄。 14 愚昧人多言多语。人不知道将来会有甚么事，谁能告诉他死后会发生甚么事呢？ 15 愚昧人的劳碌徒使自己困乏，他连怎样进城也不知道。
16 邦国啊，如果你的王是个孩童，而你的大臣又一早吃喝宴乐，你就有祸了。 17 邦国啊，如果你的王是贵冑之子，而你的大臣又按时吃喝，为要得力，不为醉酒，你就有福了。 18 房顶塌下是因为懒惰，房屋滴漏是因为懒得动手。 19 设宴是为欢笑，酒能使人生快活，金钱能解决万事。 20 不要在意念中咒骂君王，也不要在卧房中咒骂财主，因为空中的飞鸟会传声，有翅膀的会述说这事。

10 La mejor sopa se echa a perder si le cae una mosca. La menor tontería echa a perder tu fama de sabio.
2 El sabio siempre piensa en hacer lo bueno; el tonto sólo piensa en hacer lo malo. 3 Tiene el tonto tan poco cerebro que sin abrir la boca anuncia su tontería.
4 Si el gobernante se enoja contigo, no renuncies a tu cargo. Para los grandes errores, un gran remedio: la paciencia.
5 En esta vida he visto algo muy grave, parecido al error que cometen los gobernantes: 6 que a la gente incapaz se le dan puestos de gran responsabilidad, mientras que a la gente capaz se le dan los puestos más bajos. 7 ¡Y resulta que los esclavos andan a caballo, mientras que la gente que vale anda a pie!
8 Si haces hoyos,
puedes caerte en ellos.
Si partes en dos un muro,
puede morderte una serpiente.
9 Si partes piedras,
puedes salir herido.
Si partes leña,
puedes salir lastimado.
10 El hacha sin filo no corta.
Si no se le saca filo,
hay que golpear con más fuerza.

tienes que saber qué hacer
y hacerlo bien.
11 ¿De qué te sirve tener
un encantador de serpientes,

que tiene un rey bien preparado,
con gobernantes que comen para vivir
y no viven para comer!
18 En la casa del perezoso
pasan muchas desgracias:
primero se cae el techo,
y después toda la casa.
19 Para estar feliz
hace falta pan,
para estar contento
hace falta vino,
y para gozar de todo
hace falta dinero.
20 Nunca hables mal del rey
ni de la gente poderosa,
aunque creas que nadie te oye.
Las palabras vuelan;

10 Just as dead flies make perfumed oil stink,
so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 A wise man’s heart leads him rightly,
but a fool’s heart leads him astray;
3 and when a fool travels, he has no good sense,
thus showing everyone that he is a fool.
4 If a ruler gets angry at you, stay at your post,
because calmness soothes great offenses.
5 Another evil I have seen under the sun,
the kind of mistake rulers make, is that
6 fools are promoted to high positions,
while the rich occupy humble places.
7 I have seen servants riding horses,
while princes walk on foot like slaves.
8 He who digs a pit may fall into it;
he who breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.
9 He who quarries stones may get hurt by them,
he who chops wood puts himself in danger.
10 If the [hatchet’s] iron [blade] is blunt,
and [its user] doesn’t sharpen it,
he will have to exert more effort;
but the expert has the advantage of his skill.
11 If a snake bites before it is charmed,
the snake-charmer has no advantage.
12 The words spoken by the wise bring them favor,
but the lips of a fool swallow him up.
13 What he says starts with foolishness
and ends with wicked madness.
14 A fool keeps talking and talking,
yet no one knows what the future will bring —
can anyone tell a person
what will happen after he’s gone?
15 The efforts of a fool wear him out;
he doesn’t even know the way to town!
16 Woe to you, land, when your king is a child,
and your leaders start their parties in the morning!
17 Happy are you, land, when your king is well-born,
and your princes eat at the proper time,
in order to stay strong, not to get drunk!
18 When the owner is lazy, the roof sags;
when hands are idle, the house leaks.
19 Parties are made for having a good time,
wine adds cheer to life,
and money has an answer for everything.
20 Don’t insult the king, not even in your thoughts;
and don’t insult the wealthy, not even in your bedroom;
for a bird in the air might carry the news,
a creature with wings might repeat what you said.

10 Le mosche morte fanno puzzare l'olio del profumiere: cosí un po' di follia guasta il pregio della sapienza e della gloria.
2 Il cuore del saggio è alla sua destra, ma il cuore dello stolto è alla sua sinistra.
3 Anche quando lo stolto cammina per la strada, il senno gli manca e mostra a tutti che è uno stolto.
4 Se l'ira di un sovrano si accende contro di te, non lasciare il tuo posto, perché la calma placa offese anche gravi.
5 C'è un male che ho visto sotto il sole, un errore che viene da chi governa:
6 la follia è posta in cariche elevate, mentre i ricchi seggono in luoghi bassi.
7 Ho visto servi a cavallo e principi camminare a piedi come servi.
8 Chi scava una fossa vi può cadere dentro, e chi demolisce un muro può essere morso da una serpe.
9 Chi sposta delle pietre può esserne ferito, e chi spacca la legna si mette in pericolo.
10 Se la scure è smussata e non se ne affila il taglio, bisogna usare maggior forza, ma la sapienza ha il vantaggio di riuscire sempre.
11 Se il serpente morde perché non è stato incantato, l'incantatore diventa inutile.
12 Le parole della bocca del saggio sono piene di grazia, ma le labbra dello stolto lo distruggono.
13 L'inizio del suo parlare è stoltezza, e la fine del suo dire è pazzia dannosa.

20 Non maledire il re neppure col pensiero, e non maledire il ricco nella tua camera da letto, perché un uccello del cielo potrebbe portare lontano la tua voce, e un uccello in volo potrebbe riferire la cosa.
