依靠埃及徒勞無益

30 耶和華說：

「我悖逆的兒女有禍了！
他們不遵行我的旨意，
按自己的計劃行事；
未經我同意，擅自與人結盟，
不斷犯罪。
2 他們不求問我便去埃及，
想得到法老的保護和蔭庇。
3 然而，法老的保護和蔭庇必成為他們的恥辱。
4 雖然他們的官長和使臣已到瑣安和哈內斯，
5 但他們必蒙羞，
因為埃及人對他們毫無用處，
沒有任何幫助和益處，
帶給他們的只有羞愧和恥辱。」
6 以下是關於南地動物的預言：
他們的使臣用驢馱著財物，
用駱駝馱著珍寶，
穿過公獅、母獅、蝮蛇和飛蛇出沒的艱險之地，
前往一個對他們毫無用處的國家。
7 埃及的幫助是徒然的，
所以我稱她為「沒用的海怪[a]」。
8 耶和華對我說：
「現在，你去當著他們的面把這些話刻在版上，
記在書卷上，
永遠留給後世作明證。
9 他們是悖逆的民族，
是說謊的兒女，
不肯聽從耶和華的教導。
10 他們對先見說，
『你們不要再看異象了。』
又對先知說，
『不要再教導我們是非對錯。
給我們說些好聽的話，
講些虛幻的事吧。
11 讓開！不要擋我們的路！
不要再給我們講以色列聖者的事。』
12 因此，以色列的聖者說，
『因為你們藐視我的話，
依仗欺壓之能和詭詐之術，
13 你們的罪惡必像一堵斷裂、凸起的高牆，
搖搖欲墜，瞬間倒塌，
14 又像瓦器一樣被摔得粉碎，
找不到一塊可以用來從火爐中取炭或從水池裡舀水的碎片。』」

15 主耶和華——以色列的聖者說：
「你們回轉、安息便可得到拯救；
你們安靜、信靠便可得到力量。
但你們卻不肯。
16 你們說，『不，我們要騎馬奔逃。』
所以你們必奔逃。
你們又說，『我們要騎快馬逃跑。』
所以追趕你們的人必疾馳如飛。
17 他們一人叱喝，
必嚇得你們千人逃跑；
他們五人叱喝，
你們必全部逃跑，
以致餘剩的人少得像山頂上的旗杆、高崗上的旗幟。」
18 因此，耶和華正在等候，
準備施恩給你們，
祂必憐憫你們。
因為耶和華是公義的上帝，
等候祂的人有福了！

19 住在耶路撒冷的錫安百姓啊，你們必不再哭泣。祂聽到你們的呼求後必恩待你們；祂聽見後必應允你們。 20 雖然主讓你們經苦難、歷艱辛，但你們的教師必不再隱藏，你們必親眼看見你們的教師。 21 不管你們向左還是向右，都會聽見背後有聲音說：「這是正路，踏上去吧！」 22 你們必拋棄自己那些鍍金包銀的偶像，把它們當作污穢之物丟掉，對它們說：「去吧！」

23 你們撒種，主必降雨，並使你們五穀豐登。那時，你們的牲畜必在寬闊的草場上吃草； 24 耕田的牛和驢必吃用叉子和鏟子揚淨、拌上鹽的飼料。 25 在你們的敵人被殺戮、城樓倒塌的日子，你們的高山岡陵上必有溪水奔流。 26 耶和華包紮他百姓的創傷，醫治祂子民的傷口時，月亮必發出太陽般的光輝，太陽的光輝必增加七倍，燦爛得好像七個太陽同時發光。

27 看啊，耶和華從遠方來，
伴著滾滾濃煙，
祂的怒氣如烈火，
話語充滿憤怒，舌頭好像烈焰。
28 祂的氣息像淹到人頸項的洪流。
祂必像篩子一樣篩列國，
毀滅他們，並把嚼環放在列邦口中，
引他們走上歧途。

29 但你們必歡唱，好像晚上慶祝節期；你們必充滿喜樂，好像人們吹著笛子登耶和華的山、到以色列磐石那裡。 30 耶和華必使人聽見祂威嚴的聲音，在憤怒、烈焰、暴雨、雷轟和冰雹中讓人看見祂降罰的臂膀。 31 亞述人聽見耶和華的聲音必心驚膽戰，祂必用杖擊打他們。 32 耶和華的刑杖每責打他們一下，祂的子民必擊鼓彈琴。祂必在戰場上揮手擊打他們。 33 焚燒之地——陀斐特早已為亞述王預備好了，那裡又寬又深，堆著許多木柴，耶和華的氣必如同一股硫磺火點燃那些木柴。

Lita på Herren och inte på Egypten

30 (A) Ve de upproriska barnen!

        säger Herren.
    De rådslår utan mig,
        de sluter förbund
            utan att min Ande är med,
    så att de därigenom hopar
        synd på synd.
2 (B) De drar ner till Egypten[a]
        utan att ha rådfrågat min mun,
    för att söka skydd hos farao
        och få tillflykt
            under Egyptens skugga.
3 (C) Faraos beskydd
        ska bli er till skam,
    tillflykten under Egyptens skugga
        en förödmjukelse.
4 (D) För hans furstar var i Soan
    och hans sändebud
        kom ända till Hanes[b],
5 (E) men alla ska skämmas
    över ett folk
        som inte kan hjälpa dem.
    De är inte till hjälp eller nytta,
        bara till skam och hån.

6 (F) Profetia om djuren i Negev.
    Genom farornas
        och ångestens land
    där lejon och lejonhonor
        har sitt tillhåll,
    där huggormar
        och vajande giftormar[c] bor,
    bär de sina rikedomar[d]
        på åsnors ryggar
    och sina skatter
        på kamelers pucklar,
    till ett folk som inte kan hjälpa dem.
7 (G) För Egyptens hjälp är förgäves
        och till ingen nytta.
    Därför kallar jag Egypten
        "Rahab[e] som inget uträttar".[f]

Faran i att förakta Guds ord

8 (H) Gå nu och skriv detta
    på en tavla inför dem
        och nerteckna det i en bok,
    så att det bevaras
        för kommande dagar,
            alltid och för evigt.
9 (I) För det är ett upproriskt folk,
        barn som ljuger,
    barn som inte vill höra
        Herrens undervisning
10 (J) och som säger till siarna:
        "Sluta med era syner!"
    och till profeterna:
        "Profetera inte
            det som är sant för oss!
    Tala något smickrande till oss,
        profetera något bedrägligt.
11 Vik av från vägen,
        gå bort från stigen,
    låt oss slippa se Israels Helige!"

12 (K) Därför säger Israels Helige:
        "Eftersom ni förkastar detta ord
    och förtröstar på våld och list
        och förlitar er på sådant,
13 (L) ska denna missgärning bli för er
        som en spricka i en hög mur,
    som buktar ut mer och mer
        tills muren plötsligt rasar
            på ett ögonblick.
14 (M) Den ska krossas som en lerkruka,
    så skoningslöst att man inte
        kan finna en skärva stor nog
    för att hämta eld från eldstaden
        eller ösa upp vatten ur dammen."

15 (N) För så säger Herren Gud,
        Israels Helige:
    "Om ni vänder om och är stilla
        blir ni frälsta.
    Genom stillhet och tillit
        blir ni starka."
    Men ni vill inte.
16 (O) Ni säger:
    "Nej, vi tänker fly på hästar."
        Därför ska ni också fly.
    "Vi ska rida i väg på snabba hästar."
        Därför ska också era förföljare
            vara snabba.
17 (P) Tusen ska fly för en endas hot,
    och för fem mäns hot
        ska ni alla fly,
    tills det som är kvar av er
        är som en flaggstång
            på en bergstopp,
    som ett baner på en kulle.
18 (Q) Därför väntar Herren
        på att få visa er nåd,
    därför är han upphöjd
        för att visa er barmhärtighet,
    för Herren är en domens Gud.
        Saliga är alla som väntar
            på honom.

Herren ska välsigna sitt folk

19 (R) O, du Sions folk, som bor i Jerusalem, gråt inte mer. Han ska förvisso förbarma sig över dig när du ropar. Så snart han hör din röst ska han svara dig. 20 (S) Herren ska ge dig nödens bröd och lidandets dryck, men sedan ska dina lärare[g] inte längre vara dolda, utan dina ögon ska se dina lärare. 21 Och vare sig du viker av åt höger eller vänster, så ska dina öron höra detta ord bakom dig: "Här är vägen, gå på den."

22 (T) Silvret som dina snidade avgudabilder är överdragna med och guldet som dina gjutna avgudabilder är belagda med ska du då anse vara orent[h]. Du ska kasta bort det som något orent och säga till det: "Bort härifrån!"[i]

23 (U) Och han ska ge regn åt den säd du har sått i jorden, och markens gröda ska ge dig bröd som är rikligt och närande. Den dagen ska din boskap få beta på stora betesmarker. 24 Oxarna och åsnorna, de som bearbetar jorden, ska äta saltad blandsäd som kastats med kastskovel och högaffel.

25 (V) På den stora slaktens dag, när tornen faller, ska bäckar med strömmande vatten flöda fram på alla höga berg och alla stora höjder. 26 Månens ljus ska vara som solens och solens ljus ska vara sju gånger klarare, som ett sjufaldigt dagsljus, när den dag kommer då Herren förbinder sitt folks skador och helar såren efter slagen som det fått.

Dom över Assyrien

27 (W) Se, Herrens namn
        kommer fjärran ifrån
    med brinnande vrede
        och med tunga rökmoln.
    Hans läppar är fulla av harm,
        hans tunga är
            som förtärande eld.
28 (X) Hans andedräkt är som en ström
    som svämmar över
        och når ända upp till halsen,
    för han vill sålla hednafolken
        i förintelsens såll
    och lägga i folkens mun
        ett betsel som leder dem vilse.

29 (Y) Då ska ni sjunga som under en natt
        då man firar helig högtid,
    och era hjärtan ska glädja sig
        som när man under flöjtspel
    tågar upp på Herrens berg,
        upp till Israels klippa.
30 (Z) Och Herren ska låta höra
        sin majestätiska röst
    och visa hur hans arm drabbar
        med vrede och harm,
    med förtärande eldslåga,
        storm och störtregn
            och hagelstenar.
31 (AA) Inför Herrens röst
    ska Assur gripas av skräck
        när han slår honom med sin stav.
32 Och så ofta staven far fram
    och Herren efter sitt beslut
        låter den falla på honom,
    ska det ljuda
        av tamburiner och harpor.
    Gång på gång ska han lyfta sin arm
        för att strida mot honom.
33 (AB) För en eldsgrop[j]
        är beredd sedan länge,
    även för kungen
        har den gjorts redo.
    Den är djup och bred,
        dess bål har eld och ved
            i överflöd,
    som en svavelström
        ska Herrens Ande
            sätta den i brand.

Woe to the Obstinate Nation

30 “Woe(A) to the obstinate children,”(B)
    declares the Lord,
“to those who carry out plans that are not mine,
    forming an alliance,(C) but not by my Spirit,
    heaping sin upon sin;
2 who go down to Egypt(D)
    without consulting(E) me;
who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection,(F)
    to Egypt’s shade for refuge.(G)
3 But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame,
    Egypt’s shade(H) will bring you disgrace.(I)
4 Though they have officials in Zoan(J)
    and their envoys have arrived in Hanes,
5 everyone will be put to shame
    because of a people(K) useless(L) to them,
who bring neither help(M) nor advantage,
    but only shame and disgrace.(N)”

6 A prophecy(O) concerning the animals of the Negev:(P)

Through a land of hardship and distress,(Q)
    of lions(R) and lionesses,
    of adders and darting snakes,(S)
the envoys carry their riches on donkeys’(T) backs,
    their treasures(U) on the humps of camels,
to that unprofitable nation,
7     to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless.(V)
Therefore I call her
    Rahab(W) the Do-Nothing.

8 Go now, write it on a tablet(X) for them,
    inscribe it on a scroll,(Y)
that for the days to come
    it may be an everlasting witness.(Z)
9 For these are rebellious(AA) people, deceitful(AB) children,
    children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.(AC)
10 They say to the seers,(AD)
    “See no more visions(AE)!”
and to the prophets,
    “Give us no more visions of what is right!
Tell us pleasant things,(AF)
    prophesy illusions.(AG)
11 Leave this way,(AH)
    get off this path,
and stop confronting(AI) us
    with the Holy One(AJ) of Israel!”

12 Therefore this is what the Holy One(AK) of Israel says:

“Because you have rejected this message,(AL)
    relied on oppression(AM)
    and depended on deceit,
13 this sin will become for you
    like a high wall,(AN) cracked and bulging,
    that collapses(AO) suddenly,(AP) in an instant.
14 It will break in pieces like pottery,(AQ)
    shattered so mercilessly
that among its pieces not a fragment will be found
    for taking coals from a hearth
    or scooping water out of a cistern.”

15 This is what the Sovereign(AR) Lord, the Holy One(AS) of Israel, says:

“In repentance and rest(AT) is your salvation,
    in quietness and trust(AU) is your strength,
    but you would have none of it.(AV)
16 You said, ‘No, we will flee(AW) on horses.’(AX)
    Therefore you will flee!
You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’
    Therefore your pursuers will be swift!
17 A thousand will flee
    at the threat of one;
at the threat of five(AY)
    you will all flee(AZ) away,
till you are left(BA)
    like a flagstaff on a mountaintop,
    like a banner(BB) on a hill.”

18 Yet the Lord longs(BC) to be gracious to you;
    therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.(BD)
For the Lord is a God of justice.(BE)
    Blessed are all who wait for him!(BF)

19 People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.(BG) How gracious he will be when you cry for help!(BH) As soon as he hears, he will answer(BI) you. 20 Although the Lord gives you the bread(BJ) of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers(BK) will be hidden(BL) no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice(BM) behind you, saying, “This is the way;(BN) walk in it.” 22 Then you will desecrate your idols(BO) overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold;(BP) you will throw them away like a menstrual(BQ) cloth and say to them, “Away with you!(BR)”

23 He will also send you rain(BS) for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich(BT) and plentiful.(BU) In that day(BV) your cattle will graze in broad meadows.(BW) 24 The oxen(BX) and donkeys that work the soil will eat fodder(BY) and mash, spread out with fork(BZ) and shovel. 25 In the day of great slaughter,(CA) when the towers(CB) fall, streams of water will flow(CC) on every high mountain and every lofty hill. 26 The moon will shine like the sun,(CD) and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the Lord binds up the bruises of his people and heals(CE) the wounds he inflicted.

27 See, the Name(CF) of the Lord comes from afar,
    with burning anger(CG) and dense clouds of smoke;
his lips are full of wrath,(CH)
    and his tongue is a consuming fire.(CI)
28 His breath(CJ) is like a rushing torrent,(CK)
    rising up to the neck.(CL)
He shakes the nations in the sieve(CM) of destruction;
    he places in the jaws of the peoples
    a bit(CN) that leads them astray.
29 And you will sing
    as on the night you celebrate a holy festival;(CO)
your hearts will rejoice(CP)
    as when people playing pipes(CQ) go up
to the mountain(CR) of the Lord,
    to the Rock(CS) of Israel.
30 The Lord will cause people to hear his majestic voice(CT)
    and will make them see his arm(CU) coming down
with raging anger(CV) and consuming fire,(CW)
    with cloudburst, thunderstorm(CX) and hail.(CY)
31 The voice of the Lord will shatter Assyria;(CZ)
    with his rod he will strike(DA) them down.
32 Every stroke the Lord lays on them
    with his punishing club(DB)
will be to the music of timbrels(DC) and harps,
    as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.(DD)
33 Topheth(DE) has long been prepared;
    it has been made ready for the king.
Its fire pit has been made deep and wide,
    with an abundance of fire and wood;
the breath(DF) of the Lord,
    like a stream of burning sulfur,(DG)
    sets it ablaze.(DH)

The Futility of Reliance on Egypt

30 Oh, rebellious children, says the Lord,
who carry out a plan, but not mine;
who make an alliance, but against my will,
    adding sin to sin;
2 who set out to go down to Egypt
    without asking for my counsel,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh,
    and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt;
3 Therefore the protection of Pharaoh shall become your shame,
    and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt your humiliation.
4 For though his officials are at Zoan
    and his envoys reach Hanes,
5 everyone comes to shame
    through a people that cannot profit them,
that brings neither help nor profit,
    but shame and disgrace.

6 An oracle concerning the animals of the Negeb.

Through a land of trouble and distress,
    of lioness and roaring[a] lion,
    of viper and flying serpent,
they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys,
    and their treasures on the humps of camels,
    to a people that cannot profit them.
7 For Egypt’s help is worthless and empty,
    therefore I have called her,
    ‘Rahab who sits still.’[b]

A Rebellious People

8 Go now, write it before them on a tablet,
    and inscribe it in a book,
so that it may be for the time to come
    as a witness for ever.
9 For they are a rebellious people,
    faithless children,
children who will not hear
    the instruction of the Lord;
10 who say to the seers, ‘Do not see’;
    and to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy to us what is right;
speak to us smooth things,
    prophesy illusions,
11 leave the way, turn aside from the path,
    let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.’
12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:
Because you reject this word,
    and put your trust in oppression and deceit,
    and rely on them;
13 therefore this iniquity shall become for you
    like a break in a high wall, bulging out, and about to collapse,
    whose crash comes suddenly, in an instant;
14 its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel
    that is smashed so ruthlessly
that among its fragments not a sherd is found
    for taking fire from the hearth,
    or dipping water out of the cistern.

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:
In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.
But you refused 16 and said,
‘No! We will flee upon horses’—
    therefore you shall flee!
and, ‘We will ride upon swift steeds’—
    therefore your pursuers shall be swift!
17 A thousand shall flee at the threat of one,
    at the threat of five you shall flee,
until you are left
    like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain,
    like a signal on a hill.

God’s Promise to Zion

18 Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you;
    therefore he will rise up to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
    blessed are all those who wait for him.

19 Truly, O people in Zion, inhabitants of Jerusalem, you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it, he will answer you. 20 Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. 21 And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’ 22 Then you will defile your silver-covered idols and your gold-plated images. You will scatter them like filthy rags; you will say to them, ‘Away with you!’

23 He will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and grain, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. On that day your cattle will graze in broad pastures; 24 and the oxen and donkeys that till the ground will eat silage, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. 25 On every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water—on a day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 Moreover, the light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, like the light of seven days, on the day when the Lord binds up the injuries of his people, and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow.

Judgement on Assyria

27 See, the name of the Lord comes from far away,
    burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke;[c]
his lips are full of indignation,
    and his tongue is like a devouring fire;
28 his breath is like an overflowing stream
    that reaches up to the neck—
to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction,
    and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads them astray.

29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and tempest and hailstones. 31 The Assyrian will be terror-stricken at the voice of the Lord, when he strikes with his rod. 32 And every stroke of the staff of punishment that the Lord lays upon him will be to the sound of timbrels and lyres; battling with brandished arm he will fight with him. 33 For his burning-place[d] has long been prepared; truly it is made ready for the king,[e] its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulphur, kindles it.
