因此,強大的民族必榮耀你;

強暴之國的城也要敬畏你。

你作了困乏人的保障、

貧窮人急難中的保障、

躲暴風雨的避難所、避炎熱的陰涼處;

因為強暴者所吹的氣,

如同直吹牆壁的暴風。

你抑制外族人的喧嘩,好像減低乾旱之地的炎熱;

Chapter 25

Praise for God’s Deliverance and the Celebration in Zion[a]

O Lord, you are my God,
    I extol you, I praise your name;
For you have carried out your wonderful plans of old,
    faithful and true.(A)
For you have made the city a heap,
    the fortified city a ruin,
The castle of the insolent, a city no more,
    not ever to be rebuilt.(B)
Therefore a strong people will honor you,
    ruthless nations will fear you.
For you have been a refuge to the poor,
    a refuge to the needy in their distress;
Shelter from the rain,
    shade from the heat.(C)
When the blast of the ruthless was like a winter rain,
    the roar of strangers like heat in the desert,
You subdued the heat with the shade of a cloud,
    the rain of the tyrants was vanquished.
On this mountain[b] the Lord of hosts
    will provide for all peoples
A feast of rich food and choice wines,
    juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.
On this mountain he will destroy
    the veil that veils all peoples,
The web that is woven over all nations.
    He will destroy death forever.
The Lord God will wipe away
    the tears from all faces;
The reproach of his people he will remove
    from the whole earth; for the Lord has spoken.(D)
    On that day it will be said:
“Indeed, this is our God; we looked to him, and he saved us!
    This is the Lord to whom we looked;
    let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!”(E)

Judgment on Moab[c]

10 For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain,
    but Moab will be trodden down
    as straw is trodden down in the mire.(F)
11 He will spread out his hands in its midst,
    as a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim;
His pride will be brought low
    despite his strokes.(G)
12 The high-walled fortress he will raze,
    bringing it low, leveling it to the ground, to the very dust.(H)

Footnotes

  1. 25:1–9 These verses praise God for carrying out his plan to destroy the enemy and to save the poor of his people in Zion (14:32), and they announce the victory banquet to be celebrated in the Lord’s city.
  2. 25:6 This mountain: i.e., Jerusalem’s mountain, Zion.
  3. 25:10–12 Moab: one of Israel’s bitterest enemies.

Praise to the Lord

25 Lord, you are my God;(A)
    I will exalt you and praise your name,(B)
for in perfect faithfulness(C)
    you have done wonderful things,(D)
    things planned(E) long ago.
You have made the city a heap of rubble,(F)
    the fortified(G) town a ruin,(H)
the foreigners’ stronghold(I) a city no more;
    it will never be rebuilt.(J)
Therefore strong peoples will honor you;(K)
    cities of ruthless(L) nations will revere you.
You have been a refuge(M) for the poor,(N)
    a refuge for the needy(O) in their distress,
a shelter from the storm(P)
    and a shade from the heat.
For the breath of the ruthless(Q)
    is like a storm driving against a wall
    and like the heat of the desert.
You silence(R) the uproar of foreigners;(S)
    as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud,
    so the song of the ruthless(T) is stilled.

On this mountain(U) the Lord Almighty will prepare
    a feast(V) of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
    the best of meats and the finest of wines.(W)
On this mountain he will destroy
    the shroud(X) that enfolds all peoples,(Y)
the sheet that covers all nations;
    he will swallow up death(Z) forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears(AA)
    from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace(AB)
    from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.(AC)

In that day(AD) they will say,

“Surely this is our God;(AE)
    we trusted(AF) in him, and he saved(AG) us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him;
    let us rejoice(AH) and be glad in his salvation.”(AI)

10 The hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain;(AJ)
    but Moab(AK) will be trampled in their land
    as straw is trampled down in the manure.
11 They will stretch out their hands in it,
    as swimmers stretch out their hands to swim.
God will bring down(AL) their pride(AM)
    despite the cleverness[a] of their hands.
12 He will bring down your high fortified walls(AN)
    and lay them low;(AO)
he will bring them down to the ground,
    to the very dust.
