17 論大馬士革的默示。
「看哪，大馬士革已被廢棄，不再為城，必變做亂堆。 2 亞羅珥的城邑已被撇棄，必成為牧羊之處，羊在那裡躺臥，無人驚嚇。 3 以法蓮不再有保障，大馬士革不再有國權，亞蘭所剩下的必像以色列人的榮耀消滅一樣。」這是萬軍之耶和華說的。
預言遺民歸主
4 「到那日，雅各的榮耀必致枵薄，他肥胖的身體必漸瘦弱。 5 就必像收割的人收斂禾稼，用手割取穗子，又像人在利乏音谷拾取遺落的穗子。 6 其間所剩下的不多，好像人打橄欖樹，在儘上的枝梢上只剩兩三個果子，在多果樹的旁枝上只剩四五個果子。」這是耶和華以色列的神說的。 7 當那日，人必仰望造他們的主，眼目重看以色列的聖者。 8 他們必不仰望祭壇，就是自己手所築的，也不重看自己指頭所做的，無論是木偶是日像。 9 在那日，他們的堅固城必像樹林中和山頂上所撇棄的地方，就是從前在以色列人面前被人撇棄的，這樣地就荒涼了。
遺忘神者必遭喪亡
10 因你忘記救你的神，不記念你能力的磐石，所以你栽上佳美的樹秧子，插上異樣的栽子， 11 栽種的日子你周圍圈上籬笆，又到早晨使你所種的開花，但在愁苦極其傷痛的日子，所收割的都飛去了。
敵以色列者必被斥逐
12 唉！多民鬨嚷，好像海浪砰訇；列邦奔騰，好像猛水滔滔。 13 列邦奔騰，好像多水滔滔，但神斥責他們，他們就遠遠逃避，又被追趕，如同山上的風前糠，又如暴風前的旋風土。 14 到晚上有驚嚇，未到早晨他們就沒有了。這是擄掠我們之人所得的份，是搶奪我們之人的報應。

17 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.
5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the Lord God of Israel.
7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.
8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

A Prophecy Against Damascus
17 A prophecy(A) against Damascus:(B)
“See, Damascus will no longer be a city
but will become a heap of ruins.(C)
2 The cities of Aroer(D) will be deserted
and left to flocks,(E) which will lie down,(F)
with no one to make them afraid.(G)
3 The fortified(H) city will disappear from Ephraim,
and royal power from Damascus;
the remnant of Aram will be
like the glory(I) of the Israelites,”(J)
declares the Lord Almighty.
4 “In that day(K) the glory(L) of Jacob will fade;
the fat of his body will waste(M) away.
5 It will be as when reapers harvest the standing grain,
gathering(N) the grain in their arms—
as when someone gleans heads of grain(O)
in the Valley of Rephaim.(P)
6 Yet some gleanings will remain,(Q)
as when an olive tree is beaten,(R)
leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches,
four or five on the fruitful boughs,”
declares the Lord, the God of Israel.
7 In that day(S) people will look(T) to their Maker(U)
and turn their eyes to the Holy One(V) of Israel.
8 They will not look to the altars,(W)
the work of their hands,(X)
and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles[a](Y)
and the incense altars their fingers(Z) have made.
9 In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth.(AA) And all will be desolation.
10 You have forgotten(AB) God your Savior;(AC)
you have not remembered the Rock,(AD) your fortress.(AE)
Therefore, though you set out the finest plants
and plant imported vines,(AF)
11 though on the day you set them out, you make them grow,
and on the morning(AG) when you plant them, you bring them to bud,
yet the harvest(AH) will be as nothing(AI)
in the day of disease and incurable(AJ) pain.(AK)
12 Woe to the many nations that rage(AL)—
they rage like the raging sea!(AM)
Woe to the peoples who roar(AN)—
they roar like the roaring of great waters!(AO)
13 Although the peoples roar(AP) like the roar of surging waters,
when he rebukes(AQ) them they flee(AR) far away,
driven before the wind like chaff(AS) on the hills,
like tumbleweed before a gale.(AT)
14 In the evening, sudden(AU) terror!(AV)
Before the morning, they are gone!(AW)
This is the portion of those who loot us,
the lot of those who plunder us.

Bientôt Damas ne sera plus ╵comptée parmi les villes,
elle sera réduite ╵à un monceau de ruines.
2 Les villes d’Aroër[b] ╵seront abandonnées
et livrées aux troupeaux
qui s’y reposeront, ╵sans que nul ne les inquiète.
3 Les remparts d’Ephraïm ╵disparaîtront alors
et il n’y aura plus ╵de royaume à Damas[c],
le reste des Syriens ╵aura le même sort ╵que les Israélites,
l’Eternel le déclare, ╵le Seigneur des armées célestes.
4 En ce jour-là, ╵la gloire de Jacob ╵sera bien amoindrie,
Israël perdra l’embonpoint ╵et sera amaigri.
5 Il en sera ╵comme lorsqu’on recueille ╵les blés sur pied à la moisson
et qu’on moissonne ╵par brassées les épis,
oui, comme on glane les épis
dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
6 Il restera un grappillage,
comme après le gaulage ╵des fruits de l’olivier,
ici deux, trois olives ╵tout en haut de la cime,
et quatre ou cinq, ╵sur les meilleures branches.
C’est là ce que déclare ╵l’Eternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
7 En ce jour-là, ╵l’homme se tournera ╵vers celui qui l’a fait,
et ses yeux se dirigeront ╵vers le Saint d’Israël.
8 Il ne tournera plus ╵ses yeux vers les autels
qu’il a faits de ses mains,
et il ne regardera plus ╵les objets que ses doigts ╵ont fabriqués,
ni les poteaux sacrés ╵de même que les encensoirs.
9 En ce jour-là, ses villes fortifiées seront abandonnées comme autrefois les villes peuplées par les Héviens ou par les Amoréens[d] furent abandonnées quand les Israélites conquirent le pays : elles seront dévastées.
10 Car tu as oublié ╵le Dieu qui t’a sauvé
et tu ne t’es pas souvenu ╵du rocher qui faisait ta force.
Ainsi tu plantes ╵des jardins de délices ╵pour tes divinités,
tu sèmes ╵des graines étrangères.
11 Le jour où tu les sèmes, ╵les plantes sortent de la terre ;
le lendemain matin, ╵ta semence fleurit.
Mais au moment de la moisson, ╵il ne reste plus rien :
le mal est sans remède.
12 Oh ! Quel mugissement ╵de peuples innombrables ╵et qui mugissent
comme mugit la mer !
Et quel grondement des nations
semblable au grondement ╵des eaux impétueuses :
13 les nations font entendre ╵des grondements ╵pareils à ceux des grandes eaux.
L’Eternel les menace ╵et elles fuient au loin.
Elles sont dispersées ╵comme des brins de paille
sur les collines par le vent,
comme en un tourbillon ╵devant un ouragan.
14 Au soir encore, ╵c’est l’épouvante,
mais avant le matin, ╵ils ont tous disparu.
Tel sera le destin ╵de ceux qui nous dépouillent,
oui, tel sera le sort ╵de tous ceux qui nous pillent.
