31 第十一年三月一日，耶和华对我说： 2 “人子啊，你要对埃及王法老和他的百姓说，
“‘谁能比你强大呢？
3 看啊，亚述曾是黎巴嫩的一棵香柏树，
枝繁叶茂，遮天蔽日，
高耸入云。
4 它在河流和深泉的滋润下茁壮成长，
溪流四围环绕它，
浇灌着林间的树木。
5 充足的水源使它高过田间所有的树木，
枝子长得又粗又长。
6 空中的飞鸟都在它的枝头上搭窝，
田间的野兽都在它的树荫下生产，
所有的大国都住在它的荫下。
7 它高大美丽，枝干修长，
因为树根深入水源，
8 连上帝园中的香柏树也不能与它相比。
松树不能与它的枝干相比，
枫树不能与它的枝条相比，
主耶和华园中的树木没有一棵能与它媲美。
9 我使它枝繁叶茂，美丽无比，
以致上帝伊甸园里的树木都羡慕它。’
10 “因此，主耶和华说，‘因为它树干高大，树梢高耸入云，心高气傲， 11 我要把它交在列国的首领手里，他必按照它的邪恶惩治它。我丢弃了它。 12 外族人，就是列邦中最残暴的人要把它砍倒，丢弃在那里，它折断的枝干散落在山间和河谷中。世上各族都离开它的荫下， 13 天上的飞禽要栖身在那折断的树干上，地上的走兽要躺卧在它的枝条中。 14 故此，水边的树木都不再傲然矗立，高耸入云，水源充足的大树也不再如此高大，因为它们都注定要与下坟墓的人一同死亡，落到阴间的深处。’
15 “主耶和华说，‘它下到阴间的那天，我要使哀声响起，使深渊闭塞，江河止息，洪水停滞。我要使黎巴嫩为它哀哭，田野的树木因它而枯萎。 16 我将它与下坟墓的人一同抛到阴间时，列国听见它坠落的响声，都恐惧战抖。伊甸园中的树木和黎巴嫩水源充足、上好的树木都在阴间得到安慰。 17 在它荫庇下做它爪牙的盟友都与它一同落到阴间，到被杀的人那里。
18 “‘伊甸园的树木中，谁能与你的威荣相比呢？然而你却要与伊甸园的树木一同下到阴间，躺卧在未受割礼的人当中，与被杀的人在一起。
“‘这就是法老和他百姓的结局。这是主耶和华说的。’”

31 A mediados de mayo del año undécimo del cautiverio del rey Joacín, me vino este mensaje del Señor:
2 «Hombre mortal, pregúntale al faraón, rey de Egipto, y a todo su pueblo: “¿Con quién les gustaba compararse cuando estaban en el punto más alto de su poderío? 3 ¡Tú eres como Asiria lo fue, una nación grande y poderosa, como un cedro del Líbano, llena de frondosas ramas, con su copa tan alta que llegaba hasta las nubes! 4 Sus raíces penetraban profundamente en la tierra húmeda, crecía en forma exuberante y mandaba sus acequias de agua a todos los árboles en derredor. 5 Sobrepasaba a todos los demás árboles, se multiplicaron sus ramas y su fronda se extendió gracias a toda el agua que tenían sus raíces. 6 Las aves hacían sus nidos en sus ramas, y a su sombra los rebaños y el ganado se reproducían. Todas las grandes naciones del mundo vivían bajo su sombra protectora. 7 Era fuerte y hermoso, pues sus raíces penetraban hondo hasta el agua. 8 Este árbol era más alto que cualquier otro en el jardín de Dios; ningún ciprés tenía ramas iguales, ni su fronda podía compararse; ninguno lo igualaba en hermosura. 9 Por la magnificencia que yo le había dado, él era la envidia de todos los demás árboles del Edén, el jardín de Dios.
10 »”Pero Egipto se ha vuelto orgulloso y arrogante, dice el Señor Dios. Entonces, ya que se ha puesto tan por encima de los demás, alcanzando las nubes, 11 yo lo entregaré en poder de una poderosa nación para destruirlo como merece su arrogancia. ¡Yo mismo lo talaré! 12 Un ejército extranjero, el de Babilonia —el terror de las naciones—, invadirá su tierra y lo talará, dejándola caído sobre la tierra. Sus ramas serán esparcidas por las montañas, valles y ríos de su tierra. Todos aquellos que viven bajo su sombra se alejarán y lo dejarán secándose allí donde cayó. 13 En lo que quede por los suelos sólo podrán poner sus nidos algunas aves y su refugio algunas fieras. 14 ¡Que ninguna otra nación se regocije con orgullo por su propia prosperidad, aunque sea más alta que las nubes, pues todas están sentenciadas y caerán estrepitosamente junto con todos los hombres orgullosos del mundo!”».
15 El Señor Dios dice: «¡Cuando Egipto cayó, hasta la naturaleza sufrió por ello, hice que los océanos hicieran duelo por él y restringieran sus mareas! Vestí al Líbano de negro e hice llorar a sus árboles. 16 Hice temblar a las naciones con temor ante lo estrepitoso de su caída, porque lo arrojé al abismo de la muerte junto con todas aquellas naciones que eran como él. Y todos los otros árboles orgullosos del Edén, los más escogidos y mejores del Líbano, aquellos cuyas raíces penetraban profundamente hasta las corrientes subterráneas, se consuelan al encontrarlo allí junto a ellas en el abismo de la muerte. 17 Sus aliados también están todos destruidos y perecen con él. Ellos descendieron con ella al mundo inferior, aquellas naciones que habían vivido bajo su sombra protectora.
18 »¡Oh Egipto, tú eres grande y glorioso entre los árboles del Edén, las naciones del mundo! ¡Pero serás abatido hasta el abismo de la muerte junto con todas estas otras naciones! Estarás entre las naciones que desprecias, liquidadas en la guerra. Este es el destino que le espera al faraón y a toda su innumerable gente, dice el Señor».

31 En el año undécimo, el mes tercero, el día primero del mes, vino a mí la palabra del Señor(A): 2 «Hijo de hombre, dile a Faraón, rey de Egipto(B), y a su multitud:
“¿A quién te pareces en tu grandeza?
3 -”Recuerda que Asiria era un cedro en el Líbano
De hermosas ramas y frondoso, de sombra abundante
Y de elevada altura(C),
Y su copa estaba entre las nubes(D).
4 -”Las aguas lo hicieron crecer y las corrientes profundas lo encumbraron;
Con sus ríos se extendía alrededor del lugar donde estaba plantado,
Y enviaba sus corrientes a todos los árboles del campo(E).
5 -”Por eso su altura era mayor que la de todos los árboles del campo.
Se multiplicaban sus ramas y se alargaba su ramaje(F),
Extendiéndose a causa de las muchas aguas(G).
6 -”En sus ramas anidaban todas las aves del cielo,
Bajo su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo(H),
Y a su sombra habitaban todas las grandes naciones.
7 -”Era, pues, hermoso en su grandeza, por la extensión de sus ramas;
Porque sus raíces estaban junto a muchas aguas.
8 -”Los cedros(I) no lo igualaban en el huerto de Dios(J);
Los cipreses no se podían comparar con su ramaje,
Y los plátanos no igualaban sus ramas.
Ningún árbol en el huerto de Dios(K) podía compararse a él en su hermosura.
9 -”Hermoso lo hice por la multitud de sus ramas,
Y lo envidiaban todos los árboles del Edén que estaban en el huerto de Dios(L).
10 ”Por tanto, así dice el Señor Dios: ‘Porque es de elevada altura, y ha puesto su copa entre las nubes, y su corazón es altivo por su altura(M), 11 lo entregaré, pues, en manos de un déspota de las naciones que lo tratará con dureza(N). Conforme a su maldad lo he echado fuera(O). 12 Y extranjeros, los más crueles de entre las naciones, lo han derribado y abandonado(P). Sus ramas han caído sobre los montes y en todos los valles(Q), y su ramaje ha sido quebrado en todas las barrancas de la tierra(R). Todos los pueblos de la tierra se han retirado de su sombra y lo han abandonado(S). 13 Sobre sus ruinas habitarán todas las aves del cielo, y sobre su ramaje derribado estarán todas las bestias del campo(T), 14 para que no se exalten en su altura ninguno de los árboles junto a las aguas, ni alcen su copa entre las nubes, ni confíen en su altura sus poderosos bien regados. Porque todos han sido entregados a la muerte, a las profundidades de la tierra, entre los hijos de los hombres con los que descienden a la fosa(U)’.
15 ”Así dice el Señor Dios: ‘El día en que el cedro descendió al Seol[a] causé lamentaciones(V), le cerré las corrientes profundas y detuve sus ríos. Sus muchas aguas cesaron, e hice que el Líbano se lamentara por él y por él todos los árboles del campo se marchitaron. 16 Al estruendo de su caída(W) hice temblar a las naciones, cuando lo hice descender al Seol con los que descienden a la fosa(X). Entonces todos los árboles bien regados del Edén, los escogidos y los mejores del Líbano(Y), se consolaron en las profundidades de la tierra(Z). 17 También ellos descendieron con él al Seol(AA), con los que murieron a espada(AB); y los que eran su fuerza habitaban bajo su sombra en medio de las naciones(AC). 18 ¿A quién, pues, eres semejante en gloria y grandeza(AD) entre los árboles del Edén? Sin embargo, serás derribado con los árboles del Edén a las profundidades de la tierra. Yacerás en medio de los incircuncisos, con los que fueron muertos a espada. Así es Faraón y toda su multitud’”, declara el Señor Dios(AE)».

31 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?
3 Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.
4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
5 Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.
6 All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.
7 Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.
8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.
9 I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.
10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
14 To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
15 Thus saith the Lord God; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.
17 They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
18 To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord God.

Pharaoh as a Felled Cedar of Lebanon
31 In the eleventh year,(A) in the third month on the first day, the word of the Lord came to me:(B) 2 “Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes:
“‘Who can be compared with you in majesty?
3 Consider Assyria,(C) once a cedar in Lebanon,(D)
with beautiful branches overshadowing the forest;
it towered on high,
its top above the thick foliage.(E)
4 The waters(F) nourished it,
deep springs made it grow tall;
their streams flowed
all around its base
and sent their channels
to all the trees of the field.(G)
5 So it towered higher(H)
than all the trees of the field;
its boughs increased
and its branches grew long,
spreading because of abundant waters.(I)
6 All the birds of the sky
nested in its boughs,
all the animals of the wild
gave birth(J) under its branches;
all the great nations
lived in its shade.(K)
7 It was majestic in beauty,
with its spreading boughs,
for its roots went down
to abundant waters.(L)
8 The cedars(M) in the garden of God
could not rival it,
nor could the junipers
equal its boughs,
nor could the plane trees(N)
compare with its branches—
no tree in the garden of God
could match its beauty.(O)
9 I made it beautiful
with abundant branches,
the envy of all the trees of Eden(P)
in the garden of God.(Q)
10 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because the great cedar towered over the thick foliage, and because it was proud(R) of its height, 11 I gave it into the hands of the ruler of the nations, for him to deal with according to its wickedness. I cast it aside,(S) 12 and the most ruthless of foreign nations(T) cut it down and left it. Its boughs fell on the mountains and in all the valleys;(U) its branches lay broken in all the ravines of the land. All the nations of the earth came out from under its shade and left it.(V) 13 All the birds settled on the fallen tree, and all the wild animals lived among its branches.(W) 14 Therefore no other trees by the waters are ever to tower proudly on high, lifting their tops above the thick foliage. No other trees so well-watered are ever to reach such a height; they are all destined(X) for death,(Y) for the earth below, among mortals who go down to the realm of the dead.(Z)
15 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On the day it was brought down to the realm of the dead I covered the deep springs with mourning for it; I held back its streams, and its abundant waters were restrained. Because of it I clothed Lebanon with gloom, and all the trees of the field withered away.(AA) 16 I made the nations tremble(AB) at the sound of its fall when I brought it down to the realm of the dead to be with those who go down to the pit. Then all the trees(AC) of Eden,(AD) the choicest and best of Lebanon, the well-watered trees, were consoled(AE) in the earth below.(AF) 17 They too, like the great cedar, had gone down to the realm of the dead, to those killed by the sword,(AG) along with the armed men who lived in its shade among the nations.
18 “‘Which of the trees of Eden can be compared with you in splendor and majesty? Yet you, too, will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth below; you will lie among the uncircumcised,(AH) with those killed by the sword.
“‘This is Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
