3 Y llegado el mes séptimo, y ya los hijos de Israel en las ciudades, se juntó el pueblo como un varón en Jerusalén.
2 Entonces se levantó Jesúa hijo de Josadac, y sus hermanos los sacerdotes, y Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, y sus hermanos, y edificaron el altar del Dios de Israel, para ofrecer sobre él holocaustos como está escrito en la ley de Moisés varón de Dios.
3 Y asentaron el altar sobre sus basas, porque tenían miedo de los pueblos de las tierras, y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos al SEÑOR, holocaustos a la mañana y a la tarde.
4 Hicieron asimismo la fiesta de los tabernáculos, como está escrito, y holocaustos cada día por cuenta, conforme a la ordenanza, cada cosa en su día;
5 y a más de esto, el holocausto continuo, y las nuevas lunas, y todas las fiestas santificadas del SEÑOR, y toda ofrenda espontánea, voluntaria al SEÑOR.
6 Desde el primer día del mes séptimo comenzaron a ofrecer holocaustos al SEÑOR; mas el templo del SEÑOR no estaba aún fundado.
7 ¶ Y dieron dinero a los carpinteros y oficiales; asimismo comida y bebida, y aceite a los sidonios y tirios, para que trajeran madera de cedro del Líbano al mar de Jope, conforme a la voluntad de Ciro rey de Persia sobre ellos.
8 Y en el año segundo de su venida a la Casa de Dios en Jerusalén, en el mes segundo, comenzaron Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, y Jesúa hijo de Josadac, y los otros sus hermanos, los sacerdotes y los levitas, y todos los que habían venido de la cautividad a Jerusalén; y pusieron a los levitas de veinte años arriba para que tuvieran cargo de la obra de la Casa del SEÑOR.
9 Y estuvo Jesúa, sus hijos y sus hermanos, Cadmiel y sus hijos, hijos de Judá, como un varón para dar prisa a los que hacían la obra en la casa de Dios: los hijos de Henadad, sus hijos y sus hermanos, levitas.
10 Y los albañiles del templo del SEÑOR echaron los cimientos; y pusieron a los sacerdotes vestidos de sus ropas, con trompetas, y a los levitas hijos de Asaf con címbalos, para que alabaran al SEÑOR, según la ordenanza de David rey de Israel.
11 Y cantaban, alabando y confesando al SEÑOR, y decían: Porque es bueno, porque para siempre es su misericordia sobre Israel. Y todo el pueblo gritaba con gran grito, alabando al SEÑOR, porque la Casa del SEÑOR era acimentada.
12 Y muchos de los sacerdotes y de los levitas y de las cabezas de los padres, viejos, que habían visto la casa primera, viendo fundar esta casa, lloraban en alta voz, mientras muchos otros daban grandes gritos de alegría.
13 Y el pueblo no podía discernir la voz del grito de alegría, de la voz del lloro del pueblo; porque el pueblo gritaba con gran grito, y la voz se oía hasta lejos.

Se reorganiza el culto
3 Cuando llegó el mes séptimo, y los israelitas se habían instalado ya en sus poblaciones, todo el pueblo se reunió en Jerusalén. 2 Entonces Josué, hijo de Josadac, y sus compañeros los sacerdotes, así como Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, y sus parientes, se pusieron a construir el altar del Dios de Israel, para ofrecer sobre él los holocaustos que ordena la ley de Moisés, hombre de Dios. 3 Construyeron el altar bien firme, porque tenían miedo de la gente de la región, y cada mañana y cada tarde ofrecían sobre él holocaustos en honor del Señor. 4 Celebraron además la fiesta de las Enramadas, conforme a la ley escrita, ofreciendo diariamente los holocaustos acostumbrados, según la cantidad correspondiente a cada día, 5 así como los holocaustos diarios y de luna nueva, los correspondientes a las fiestas sagradas del Señor, y los que alguien ofrecía voluntariamente al Señor. 6 Desde el primer día del mes séptimo empezaron a ofrecer holocaustos al Señor, aun cuando el templo del Señor no se había comenzado a reconstruir. 7 Luego dieron dinero a los albañiles y carpinteros, y comida, bebida y aceite a la gente de Tiro y Sidón, para que desde el Líbano llevaran por mar madera de cedro hasta Jope, según el permiso que les había dado Ciro, rey de Persia.
Comienza la reconstrucción del templo
8 Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, y Josué, hijo de Josadac, junto con sus compañeros los sacerdotes y levitas, y con todos los desterrados que volvieron a Jerusalén, iniciaron la reconstrucción del templo de Dios en el mes segundo del segundo año de su llegada a Jerusalén, dejando la dirección de las obras en manos de los levitas mayores de veinte años. 9 Josué y sus hijos y hermanos formaron un solo grupo con Cadmiel y sus hijos, que eran descendientes de Judá, y con los descendientes e hijos y hermanos de Henadad, que eran levitas, para dirigir a los que trabajaban en el templo de Dios.
10 Cuando los constructores echaron los cimientos del templo del Señor, los sacerdotes se pusieron de pie, vestidos para la ocasión y con trompetas. Los levitas descendientes de Asaf llevaban platillos para alabar al Señor, según lo ordenado por David, rey de Israel. 11 Unos cantaban alabanzas, y otros respondían: «Den gracias al Señor, porque él es bueno, porque su amor por Israel es eterno.» Y todo el pueblo gritaba de alegría y alababa al Señor, porque ya se había comenzado a reconstruir el templo del Señor. 12 Y muchos de los sacerdotes, levitas y jefes de familia, que eran ya ancianos y que habían visto el primer templo, lloraban en alta voz porque veían que se comenzaba a construir este nuevo templo. Al mismo tiempo, muchos otros gritaban de alegría. 13 Nadie podía distinguir entre los gritos de alegría y el llanto de la gente, pues gritaban tanto que desde muy lejos se oía el alboroto.

3 And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.
2 Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
3 And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
4 They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;
5 And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the Lord.
6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not yet laid.
7 They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.
8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord.
9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.
11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.
12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:
13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

Rebuilding the Altar
3 When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns,(A) the people assembled(B) together as one in Jerusalem. 2 Then Joshua(C) son of Jozadak(D) and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel(E) and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses(F) the man of God. 3 Despite their fear(G) of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening sacrifices.(H) 4 Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Festival of Tabernacles(I) with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. 5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon(J) sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred festivals of the Lord,(K) as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the Lord. 6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, though the foundation of the Lord’s temple had not yet been laid.
Rebuilding the Temple
7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters,(L) and gave food and drink and olive oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs(M) by sea from Lebanon(N) to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus(O) king of Persia.
8 In the second month(P) of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel(Q) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak and the rest of the people (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work. They appointed Levites twenty(R) years old and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord. 9 Joshua(S) and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Hodaviah[a]) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers—all Levites—joined together in supervising those working on the house of God.
10 When the builders laid(T) the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets,(U) and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise(V) the Lord, as prescribed by David(W) king of Israel.(X) 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:
“He is good;
his love toward Israel endures forever.”(Y)
And all the people gave a great shout(Z) of praise to the Lord, because the foundation(AA) of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple,(AB) wept(AC) aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. 13 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy(AD) from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.
