Water wordt wijn

2 Twee dagen later was er een bruiloft in het dorp Kana in Galilea. Jezusʼ moeder was er, 2 en ook Jezus en zijn leerlingen waren uitgenodigd. 3 Op zeker ogenblik raakte de wijn op. Jezusʼ moeder hoorde het en ging het Hem vertellen. 4 ‘Laat Mij met rust,’ antwoordde Hij. ‘Het is mijn tijd nog niet.’ 5 Zijn moeder zei tegen de bedienden: ‘Doe wat Hij u zegt.’ 6 Er stonden zes grote aarden kruiken, elk met een inhoud van zoʼn honderd liter. Die werden bij bepaalde gelegenheden met water gevuld, zodat men zich volgens de Joodse voorschriften kon wassen. 7 Jezus zei tegen de bedienden: ‘Vul al die kruiken met water.’ 8 Toen zij dat gedaan hadden, zei Hij: ‘Schep er nu wat uit en laat de ceremoniemeester ervan proeven.’ Zij gaven ervan aan de ceremoniemeester, 9 die niet wist wat er gebeurd was. Hij proefde van het water dat wijn was geworden en riep de bruidegom. 10 Hij zei tegen hem: ‘Wat een lekkere wijn! Hoe is het mogelijk! Iedereen schenkt eerst de goede wijn en als de mensen dronken beginnen te worden, pas de minder goede. Maar u hebt de beste wijn voor het laatst bewaard.’ 11 Zo liet Jezus in Kana in Galilea voor het eerst zien wie Hij was. Daar toonde Hij zijn grootheid en zijn leerlingen geloofden in Hem.

12 Hierna ging Hij met zijn moeder, broers en leerlingen naar Kafarnaüm, maar zij bleven daar niet lang.

Jezus bezoekt de tempel

13 Weldra zou Pesach, het Joodse Paasfeest, beginnen. Daarom vertrok Jezus naar Jeruzalem. 14 Op het tempelplein zag Hij handelaars die runderen, schapen en duiven verkochten en geldwisselaars die achter hun tafeltjes zaten. 15 Hij knoopte een paar stukken touw aan elkaar en joeg hen daarmee met hun dieren de tempel uit. Het geld van de wisselaars gooide Hij op de grond en hun tafeltjes gooide Hij omver. 16 Tegen de duivenverkopers zei Hij: ‘Eruit! Het huis van mijn Vader is geen markt!’ 17 Dit herinnerde de leerlingen eraan dat er geschreven staat: ‘Van mijzelf blijft niets over, omdat ik alles geef voor uw huis.’ 18 De Joden namen dit niet. ‘Hoe durft U! Bewijs maar eens dat U dit mag doen!’ 19 ‘Breek deze tempel af,’ zei Jezus. ‘En in drie dagen zal Ik hem weer opbouwen.’ 20 ‘Wat!’ riepen de Joden. ‘Er is zesenveertig jaar aan deze tempel gewerkt en U zou er in drie dagen mee klaar zijn?’ 21 Maar Jezus bedoelde dat Hijzelf, zijn eigen lichaam, die tempel was. 22 Later, toen Hij uit de dood was teruggekomen, herinnerden zijn leerlingen zich dat Hij dit gezegd had. Het klopte met wat er in de Boeken staat en zij geloofden het.

Nikodemus bezoekt Jezus

23 Door de wonderen die Jezus tijdens het Paasfeest in Jeruzalem deed, gingen veel mensen in Hem geloven. 24 Maar Hij bleef terughoudend, omdat Hij de mensen door en door kende. 25 Niemand hoefde Hem iets over de mens te vertellen, want Hij wist wat er in een mens omgaat.

2 それから3日目にイエスの母は、ガリラヤ地方のカナ町で開かれた結婚式に参加していた。 2 イエスとその弟子も共に招かれた。 3 しかし、その結婚式には十分な量のワインがなかったので、イエスの母はイエスにこう言った。「ワインがもう切れちゃったらしいの・・・」

4 イエスは答えた。「お母さん、なんで俺に言うの？その時はまだ俺には来ていないんだ」

5 母は召使いたちにこう言った。「彼の言う通りにして」

6 そこには、ユダヤ人が清めの儀式に使う大きな水瓶みずがめが6つほど置いてあった。水瓶みずがめはそれぞれ、およそ80L～120Lほどの水を入れることができる大きさだった。

7 イエスは召使いたちに言った。「水瓶みずがめを水でいっぱいにするんだ」イエスの申し付け通り、召使いたちは水瓶みずがめを水でいっぱいにした。

8 それからイエスは彼らに言った。「では、それを汲くんで幹事のもとへ持って行くんだ」

彼らはイエスの申し付け通りにした。 9 幹事がそれを味見すると水がワインに変わっていた！もちろん、幹事はそのワインがどこから来たのかを知らなかったが、水を持ってきた召使いたちは誰がそれを用意したのかを知っていた。幹事はすぐさま花婿はなむこを呼んで、 10 彼にこう言った。「誰もが最初は良いワインを出しておいて、客が酔って味が分からなくなった頃に安いワインを出すもんだが、まさか最上級のワインを最後までとっておいたとは！」

11 これは、イエスが最初に行った奇跡だった。この奇跡はガリラヤ地方のカナの町で行われた。これによって、イエスの素晴らしい偉大さが公おおやけとなった。また、これを目の当たりにした弟子たちはイエスを信じた。

12 その後、イエスはカペナウムの町へ向かった。イエスの母、兄弟たち、そして弟子たちも一緒だった。彼らはそこに数日間滞在した。

神殿の敷地内をきれいにするイエス

（マタイ21:12-13; マルコ11:15-17; ルカ19:45-46）

13 ユダヤ人の過越祭すぎこしさいの時が訪れたので、イエスは都みやこエルサレムに向かった。 14 神殿の敷地内に入ると、そこでイエスが見たのは、牛や羊、ハトを売る商人、机に座って両替をする両替人たちだった。 15 イエスは縄でムチを作ると、パチンッ！そのムチで牛や羊たちをその場から追い出すではないか！そして、両替人の前まで行くと彼らの机を勢いよくひっくり返した。あたりは騒然・・・一面にお金が撒まき散らされた・・・ 16 そして、イエスはハト売りに言った。「それをとっとと持ってここから出て行け！お父さんの家を商売の場にするな！」

17 この光景を見ていた弟子たちの頭に聖書箇所がよぎった。「♪あなたの神殿への愛が、わたしを打ち砕く！」

18 あるユダヤ人がイエスに言った。「こんなことをする権利があなたにあると言うのなら、神からの奇跡を起こして証明しなさい！」

19 イエスは答えた。「この神殿を壊してみろ、3日で建て直してやろう！」

20 彼らは答えた。「3日？この神殿を建てるのには46年もかかっているのだぞ！それを3日で建てられるだなんて・・・ほんとうにできると思っているのか？」

21 だが、イエスが「この神殿」と言った時、彼は自分の体について言っていたのだ。 22 イエスが死から復活したあと、弟子たちはこの時の発言を思い出し、聖書とイエスのことばをより一層固く信じたのだった。

イエスとニコデモ

23 イエスが神殿の都みやこエルサレムを訪れたのは、過越祭すぎこしさいに参加するためだったが、そこにいる間に起こした奇跡を見て、大勢の人がイエスを信じたのだった。 24 しかし、イエスは全ての人たちの考え方を知っていたため、彼らを信用することはなかった。 25 イエスにとって、誰がどんな人だったのか、そのことを誰かから教えてもらう必要はなかった。彼はすでに知っていたのだ。

Jezus verandert water in wijn

2 Op de derde dag was er een bruiloft in Kana in Galilea. Jezus' moeder was op het feest. 2 Ook Jezus en de leerlingen waren uitgenodigd. 3 Toen de wijn op was, zei Jezus' moeder tegen Hem: "Ze hebben geen wijn!" 4 Jezus zei tegen haar: "Dat weet Ik toch. Dat hoeft u Mij niet te zeggen. Maar het is nog niet de juiste tijd voor Mij om daar iets aan te doen."[a] 5 Zijn moeder zei tegen de bedienden: "Als Hij iets tegen jullie zegt, doe dat dan, wat het ook is."

6 Bij de deur stonden zes waterbakken. Dat water werd door de Joden gebruikt om daar volgens hun gewoonten de handen en voeten in te wassen. In zo'n bak kon ongeveer 2 of 3 metreten (80 of 100 liter) water. 7 Jezus zei tegen de bedienden: "Vul de bakken met water." Ze vulden ze tot aan de rand. 8 Toen zei Hij: "Schep er nu wat uit. Laat de leider van het feest daarvan proeven." 9 Toen de leider van het feest het water proefde, was het wijn geworden. Hij wist niet waar deze wijn vandaan kwam. Maar de bedienden die het uit de bak geschept hadden, wisten het wel. De leider van het feest liet de bruidegom bij zich komen. 10 Hij zei tegen hem: "Iedereen zet altijd eerst de beste wijn op tafel. En pas als de mensen veel gedronken hebben, de minder goede wijn. Maar jij hebt de beste wijn voor het laatst bewaard!"

11 Dit was het eerste wonder dat Jezus deed. Het gebeurde in Kana in Galilea. Dat wonder liet zien hoe machtig Hij is. En zijn leerlingen geloofden in Hem. 12 Daarna ging Hij naar Kapernaüm, met zijn moeder, zijn broers en zijn leerlingen. Daar bleven ze een paar dagen.

Jezus jaagt de verkopers de tempel uit

13 Het was bijna de tijd van het Joodse Paasfeest.[b] Daarom reisde Jezus naar Jeruzalem, om daar het Paasfeest te vieren. 14 Hij ging naar de tempel en zag daar de verkopers van koeien, schapen en duiven voor de offers en de geldwisselaars.[c] 15 Hij maakte van touw een zweep. Daarmee joeg Hij hen met al hun schapen en koeien de tempel uit. Het geld van de geldwisselaars gooide Hij op de grond en hun tafels keerde Hij om. 16 En tegen de duivenverkopers zei Hij: "Ga weg en neem al je spullen mee! Jullie hebben van mijn Vaders huis een markt gemaakt!" 17 Toen herinnerden zijn leerlingen zich dat er in de Boeken staat: 'Voor uw huis zal Ik alles willen doen.'

18 De Joden zeiden tegen Hem: "Hoe durft U dit te doen? Bewijs maar eens dat U dit mag!" 19 Jezus antwoordde: "Breek deze tempel af en binnen drie dagen zal Ik hem weer opbouwen." 20 De Joden zeiden: "Het heeft 46 jaar gekost om deze tempel te bouwen. Zou U dat dan in drie dagen kunnen?" 21 Maar met die tempel bedoelde Hij zijn lichaam. 22 Later, toen Hij uit de dood was opgestaan, herinnerden zijn leerlingen zich dat Hij dit had gezegd. Daarom geloofden ze toen de Boeken en wat Jezus had gezegd.

23 Toen Jezus op het Paasfeest in Jeruzalem was, geloofden veel mensen in Hem. Dat kwam door de wonderen die ze Hem zagen doen. 24 Maar Hij liet Zich nog niet door hen kennen. Want Hij wist maar al te goed hoe de mensen zijn. 25 Het was niet nodig dat iemand Hem vertelde hoe de mensen zijn. Hij wist Zelf wat er in hun hart is.

  1. Johannes 2:4 Jezus heeft het hier over iets anders dan Maria. Wijn is in de bijbel vaak het symbool van vergeving. Denk maar aan de wijn die bij de offers hoorde, en aan de wijn bij het laatste avondmaal die Jezus' bloed voorstelde (lees Matteüs 26:26-28). Díe 'wijn' is 'op:' de mensen hebben dringend vergeving nodig. En het is voor Hem op dat moment nog niet de juiste tijd om daar iets aan te doen.   3. Johannes 2:14 In de tempel konden de mensen dieren kopen voor de offers. Er was een hele markt ontstaan.

The Wedding at Cana: Water Turned into Wine

2 And on the third day, there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 And both Jesus and his disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when the[a] wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine!” 4 And Jesus said to her, “What does your concern have to do with me,[b] woman? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he says to you, do it!”[c]

6 Now six stone water jars were set there, in accordance with the ceremonial cleansing of the Jews, each holding two or three measures.[d] 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the water jars with water.” And they filled them to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some[e] out and take it[f] to the head steward. So they took it.[g] 9 Now when the head steward tasted the water which had become wine and did not know where it was from—but the servants who had drawn the water knew—the head steward summoned the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone[h] serves the good wine first, and whenever they are drunk, the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This beginning of signs Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

Jesus’ First Journey to Jerusalem

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, and his mother and brothers[i] and his disciples, and they stayed there a few[j] days. 13 And the Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

The Cleansing of the Temple

14 And he found in the temple courts[k] those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated. 15 And he made a whip of cords and[l] drove them[m] all out of the temple courts,[n] both the sheep and the oxen, and he poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their[o] tables. 16 And to the ones selling the doves he said, “Take these things away from here! Do not make my Father’s house a marketplace!”[p] 17 His disciples remembered that it is written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[q]

18 So the Jews answered and said to him, “What sign do you show to us, because you are doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up!” 20 Then the Jews said, “This temple has been under construction[r] forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. 22 So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and the saying that Jesus had spoken.

Jesus at the Passover

23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name because they[s] saw his signs which he was doing. 24 But Jesus himself did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people,[t] 25 and because he did not need[u] anyone to testify[v] about man, for he himself knew what was in man.[w]

Jesus Changes Water Into Wine

2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.(A) Jesus’ mother(B) was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

4 “Woman,[a](C) why do you involve me?”(D) Jesus replied. “My hour(E) has not yet come.”

5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”(F)

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing,(G) each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]

7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.(H) He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs(I) through which he revealed his glory;(J) and his disciples believed in him.(K)

12 After this he went down to Capernaum(L) with his mother(M) and brothers(N) and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.

Jesus Clears the Temple Courts(O)

13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover,(P) Jesus went up to Jerusalem.(Q) 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves,(R) and others sitting at tables exchanging money.(S) 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house(T) into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[c](U)

18 The Jews(V) then responded to him, “What sign(W) can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”(X)

19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”(Y)

20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.(Z) 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.(AA) Then they believed the scripture(AB) and the words that Jesus had spoken.

23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,(AC) many people saw the signs(AD) he was performing and believed(AE) in his name.[d] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind,(AF) for he knew what was in each person.(AG)
