1 教会の長老ヨハネから、選ばれた夫人とその子どもたちへ。私は、あなたがたを心から愛しています。そして、あなたがたは、私だけでなく、教会員にも心から慕われています。 2 私たちの心のうちにはいつも真理が宿っているので、 3 父なる神とそのひとり子イエス・キリストが、恵みとあわれみと平安とを注いで、私たちを祝福してくださるのです。
偽教師に注意しなさい
4 あなたの子どもたちの中に、真理に従って歩み、神の命令どおりに正しく生活している者がいるのを知って、非常にうれしく思っています。
5 そこで夫人よ。もう一度、思い起こしてほしいことがあります。それは、初めから与えられていた、「互いに愛し合いなさい」という神の戒めです。 6 もし私たちがほんとうに神を愛しているなら、その命令に喜んで従うはずです。神は最初から、互いに愛し合うようにと命じておられるのです。
7 偽教師があちこちに出現していますから、くれぐれも注意してください。彼らは、イエス・キリストが私たちと同じ肉体を持った人間として世に来られたことを信じないのです。彼らは真理にそむく者であり、キリストに敵対する者です。
8 彼らと同じ道をたどって、これまでの労苦が水のあわとならないようお願いします。あなたがたには、ぜひとも、主から十分な報いを受けてもらいたいのです。 9 キリストの教えからはずれて、それを守ろうとしない者は、神のものではありません。しかしキリストの教えにとどまっている者は、父なる神と御子を自分のうちに持っているのです。
10 あなたがたを訪問する人の中で、まちがった教えを説こうとたくらんでいる者たちを、絶対に迎え入れてはいけません。まして、彼らを励ますようなまねは、いっさいやめなさい。 11 そんなことをすれば、自分から悪の仲間入りをするはめになるのです。
12 あなたがたに忠告したいことはまだまだありますが、こうして手紙に書くだけにはしたくありません。一日も早くそちらへ行って、直接これらのことについて語り合い、共に楽しい時を過ごしたいからです。 13 神に選ばれているあなたの姉妹の子どもたちから、よろしくとのことです。

1 The elder,(A)
To the lady chosen by God(B) and to her children, whom I love in the truth(C)—and not I only, but also all who know the truth(D)— 2 because of the truth,(E) which lives in us(F) and will be with us forever:
3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ,(G) the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.
4 It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth,(H) just as the Father commanded us. 5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning.(I) I ask that we love one another. 6 And this is love:(J) that we walk in obedience to his commands.(K) As you have heard from the beginning,(L) his command is that you walk in love.
7 I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ(M) as coming in the flesh,(N) have gone out into the world.(O) Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.(P) 8 Watch out that you do not lose what we[a] have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.(Q) 9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ(R) does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.(S) 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them.(T) 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares(U) in their wicked work.
12 I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face,(V) so that our joy may be complete.(W)
13 The children of your sister, who is chosen by God,(X) send their greetings.

2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

Greeting the Elect Lady
1 The Elder,
To the [a]elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known (A)the truth, 2 because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever:
3 (B)Grace, mercy, and peace will be with [b]you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Walk in Christ’s Commandments
4 I (C)rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. 5 And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: (D)that we love one another. 6 (E)This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that (F)as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.
Beware of Antichrist Deceivers
7 For (G)many deceivers have gone out into the world (H)who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. (I)This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 (J)Look to yourselves, (K)that [c]we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.
9 (L)Whoever [d]transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and (M)does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
John’s Farewell Greeting
12 (N)Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, (O)that our joy may be full.

1 Ang matanda, sa hinirang na ginang at sa kanyang mga anak, na aking iniibig sa katotohanan, at hindi lamang ako, kundi pati ang lahat ng mga nakakaalam ng katotohanan,
2 dahil sa katotohanan na nananatili sa atin, at sasaatin magpakailanman:
3 Sumaatin nawa ang biyaya, kahabagan, at kapayapaang mula sa Diyos Ama at kay Jesu-Cristo, ang Anak ng Ama, sa katotohanan at sa pag-ibig.
Pag-ibig at Katotohanan
4 Ako'y labis na nagalak na aking natagpuan ang ilan sa iyong mga anak na lumalakad sa katotohanan, ayon sa utos na ating tinanggap mula sa Ama.
5 Ngunit(A) ngayo'y hinihiling ko sa iyo, ginang, na hindi para bang sinusulatan kita ng isang bagong utos, kundi ang ating tinanggap buhat nang pasimula, na tayo'y mag-ibigan sa isa't isa.
6 At ito ang pag-ibig, na tayo'y lumakad ayon sa kanyang mga utos. Ito ang utos, na gaya ng inyong narinig nang pasimula, na doon kayo'y lumakad.
7 Maraming mandaraya na lumitaw sa sanlibutan, yaong mga hindi kumikilala na si Jesu-Cristo ay naparito sa laman; ito ang mandaraya at ang anti-Cristo.
8 Ingatan ninyo ang inyong sarili, upang huwag ninyong maiwala ang mga bagay na aming[a] pinagpaguran, kundi upang tumanggap kayo ng lubos na gantimpala.
9 Ang sinumang lumalampas at hindi nananatili sa aral ni Cristo, ay hindi kinaroroonan ng Diyos; ang nananatili sa aral ay kinaroroonan ng Ama at gayundin ng Anak.
10 Kung sa inyo'y dumating ang sinuman at hindi dala ang aral na ito, huwag ninyong tanggapin sa inyong bahay, at huwag ninyo siyang batiin,
11 sapagkat ang bumabati sa kanya ay nakikibahagi sa kanyang masasamang gawa.

12 Kahit na marami akong bagay na isusulat sa inyo, minabuti kong huwag ng gumamit ng papel at tinta, kundi inaasahan kong pumariyan sa inyo at makipag-usap nang harapan, upang malubos ang ating kagalakan.
13 Ang mga anak ng iyong hinirang na kapatid na babae ay bumabati sa iyo.[b]
