栄光に輝くイエス
17 六日後、イエスは、ペテロとヤコブと、彼の兄弟ヨハネを連れて、人里離れた高い山の頂上に登られました。
2 すると、三人の目の前で、たちまちイエスの姿が変わりました。顔は太陽のように輝き、着物はまばゆいほど白くなりました。
3 そこへ突然、モーセとエリヤが現れて、イエスと親しく話し始めたではありませんか。 4 これを見て、ペテロは思わず口走りました。「ああ、先生。なんとありがたいことでしょう。こんなすばらしいところに居合わせるなんて！ もし、よろしければ、幕屋（神がイスラエルの民と会う聖所）を三つお建てしましょう。あなたと、モーセとエリヤのために。」
5 ところが、そう言っているうちにも、光り輝く雲が現れて、三人をすっぽり包んでしまいました。そして雲の中から、「これこそ、わたしの愛する子。わたしはこれを心から喜んでいる。彼の言うことを聞きなさい」という声がしました。
6 この声を聞いた弟子たちは、恐ろしさのあまりわなわなと震え、ひれ伏しました。 7 イエスは近寄り、彼らにさわって言われました。「さあ、起きなさい。こわがることはありません。」
8 それで、彼らがようやく顔を上げると、そこにはもう、イエスのほかにはだれもいませんでした。
9 山を降りながら、イエスは、いま見たことを、ご自分が復活するまではだれにも話してはいけないとお命じになりました。
10 そこで、弟子たちが尋ねました。「どうしてユダヤ人の指導者たちは、メシヤが来る前に、エリヤが必ず戻って来ると主張しているのでしょうか。」
11 「彼らの言うとおりです。まずエリヤが来て、すべての準備をするのです。 12 実際、エリヤはもう来たのです。しかし人々は彼を認めず、ひどい目に会わせました。そればかりか、メシヤのわたしもまた、彼らの手で苦しめられるのです。」
13 その時、弟子たちは、イエスがバプテスマのヨハネのことを言っておられるのだと気づきました。
山を降りたイエス
14 彼らがふもとに着くと、大ぜいの群衆が待ちかまえていました。その時、一人の男が駆け寄り、イエスの前にひざまずいて叫びました。 15 「先生。息子をあわれと思ってお助けください。ひどいてんかん持ちで、火の中でも水の中でも、おかまいなしに倒れるのです。 16 それで、お弟子さんたちのところに連れて来てお願いしたのですが、だめでした。」
17 「ああ、なんと不信仰な人たちでしょう。いったいいつまで、あなたがたのことを我慢しなければならないのですか。さあ、その子をここに連れて来なさい。」 18 イエスがこう言って、その子に取りついている悪霊をおしかりになると、悪霊は出て行き、子どもはその場ですっかり治ってしまいました。
19 あとで弟子たちは、そっとイエスに尋ねました。「どうして、私たちには悪霊が追い出せなかったのでしょう。」
20 イエスはお答えになりました。「信仰が足りないからです。もしあなたがたに小さなからし種ほどの信仰があったら、この山に向かって『動け』と言えば、そのとおり山は動くのです。何でもできないことはありません。 21 ただし、こういった悪霊は、祈りと断食によらなければ、とても追い出せないのです。」
22-23 まだガリラヤにいたある日のこと、イエスはこんなことをお話しになりました。「わたしは裏切られ、人々の手に引き渡され、殺されますが、三日目には必ず復活します。」これを聞いて、弟子たちの心は悲しみと恐れとで、いっぱいになりました。
24 カペナウムに着いた時、神殿に納める税金を取り立てる役人がペテロのところへ来て、「あなたがたの先生は税金を納めないのか」と尋ねました。
25 「もちろん、納めますとも。」こう答えると、ペテロは急いで家に入り、このことを話そうとしました。ところがまだ話を切り出さないうちに、イエスのほうからお尋ねになりました。「ペテロ。あなたはどう思いますか。世の王たちは、だれから税を取り立てるでしょうか。自分の子どもたちからですか、それとも、ほかの人たちからですか。」
26 「ほかの人たちからです」とペテロは答えました。「では、王の子どもたちは税金を納める必要はないのです。 27 しかし、役人たちを怒らせたくはありません。今から湖へ行って、つり糸をたらしてみなさい。最初につれた魚の口から、わたしたち二人分の税金を払うだけのお金が見つかるはずです。それで払いなさい。」

モーセとエリヤと一緒にいるイエス

17 6日後の事だった。イエスは12弟子のうち、ペテロ、ヤコブ・ヨハネの3人を連れて高い山に登った。山頂には彼ら以外だれもいない。 2 ・・・ドヒュンッ！「う゛わぁぁぁーっ！」弟子たちの前で一瞬にしてイエスが変身したではないか！その顔は太陽のように眩しく、服は輝く光のように純白だった！ 3 すると、突然2人の男が現れた、かと思うとイエスと親しそうに話し始める・・・誰だ？と弟子たちが目を凝らしてみると・・・なんとそれは、あの伝説の預言者エリヤとモーセではないか！
4 ペテロがイエスに言った。「師匠～！光栄です！ほんとに光栄です！この場に居合わせることができるなんて・・・そ、そうだ！みなさまが神を讃えるための幕屋を3つ作りましょうか！ひとつはイエス様の名誉、それとモーセ様とエリヤ様の名誉のために！」
5 ペテロが言葉を言い切る前に、天を覆う眩しい雲から、声が響いた。「これはわたしの愛する子。この子こそわたしの誇り。いいか、彼に従うのだ！」
6 声を聞いたイエスの弟子たちは、恐れのあまり腰を抜かしてしまった。 7 「立て！恐れるな」イエスは、倒れている弟子に触れて声をかけた。 8 弟子たちがふと我に返って辺りを見回すと、元通り・・・イエスただ1人になっていた。
9 これらが落ち着いた後、イエスと弟子たちは山を降り始めた。「いいか、人の子が死から蘇るその時まで、ここで見たことは心にしまっておくんだ！」
10 弟子たちがイエスに聞いた。「イエスさん、なんで掟の学者たちは、『神に選ばれし王が来る前に預言者エリヤが来なければならない』なんて言ってたんだい？」
11 イエスが答えた。「まず、エリヤが来なければならないのは確かだ。彼が全てのものをあるべき姿に整える。 12 だが、エリヤはすでに来た。ただ、人はそれが誰なのかに気付かず、彼を好き勝手に扱い、粗末にしたのだ。エリヤを苦しめた人々が人の子のことも苦しめる」 13 その時、弟子たちはイエスの話す預言者エリヤについて理解した。そう、そのエリヤとは洗礼者ヨハネのことだということが分かったのだ。
少年を悪霊から解放する
（マルコ9:14-29; ルカ9:37-43）
14 イエスとその弟子たちが群衆のもとへ戻ると、一人の男がやってきて深々とイエスの前で頭を下げた。 15 男がこう言った。「主君よ、私の息子に情けを・・・病気のせいで息子は炎の中に、また他の時には水の中に飛び込むのです。 16 先生のお弟子さんに診てもらいましたが、彼らには治せませんでした」
17 イエスは答えた。「まったく神への信頼が薄い人ばかりだな。人生過ちだらけだ！いつまで俺が一緒じゃなきゃいけないのか？いつまで待てばいいんだ・・・その子をここによこしなさい」 18 「今すぐそこから立ち去れ！」男の子の中に住み着く悪霊に強く命じるイエス。すると、直ちに悪霊はその体から去り、男の子は治ったのだった。
19 弟子たちはイエスのもとに集まって言った。「俺たちも同じように悪霊を追い出そうとしたんだ・・・だが、どうしてか、俺たちには・・・追い出すことができなかった・・・」
20 イエスは答えた。「悪霊を追い出せないのは、神に抱く信頼の薄さのせいだ。俺が言うことを信じろ。もし、お前にからし種ほどでも小さな信頼があれば、あの山に向かって『あっちへ動け』と信じて命じれば、その通りになる。お前たちにだって何でもできるさ」 21 あのような霊は祈りと断食がなければ追い出すことはできない。——【いくつかのギリシャ語訳での写本の中には、この21節が付け加えられているものが存在する】
自分の死について語るイエス
（マルコ9:30-32; ルカ9:43-45）
22 その後、弟子たちはガリラヤ地方に集まった。イエスは弟子たちに言った。「人の子は人の手に落ち、 23 彼らに殺される。しかし、3日目に死から蘇る！」イエスが殺されなければならないという知らせに心から悲しむ弟子たち。
税金の支払いについて教える
24 イエスとその弟子たちがカペナウムの町に着くと、2枚の銀貨分の神殿税を徴収する税金取りがペテロのもとにやって来た。彼らは聞いた。「あなたのところの先生は神殿税をお支払いしますか？」
25 ペテロが答えた。「えぇ、払いますが・・・」
ペテロがイエスのいる家へと入って行くとペテロが話す前に、イエスが彼に言った。「世の中の王は人からいろんな税金を徴収するが、そのお金はいったい誰が払っている？王家の人々か？それともその他の人々か？」
26 ペテロは答えた。「その他の人々が払っています」
イエスは言った。「ということは、王家に属する俺たちが神殿税を支払う必要はないよな。 27 だが、税金取りを怒らせるのはよくない。だからペテロ、湖にいって釣りをしてこい。最初に獲った魚の口を開ければ、俺とお前の分になる大きな銀貨が入っているから、それで税金取りに支払ってきてくれ」

Moses and Elijah Appear with Jesus(A)
17 After six days Yeshua took Peter, James, and John (the brother of James) and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone.
2 Yeshua’s appearance changed in front of them. His face became as bright as the sun and his clothes as white as light. 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them and were talking with Yeshua.
4 Peter said to Yeshua, “Lord, it’s good that we’re here. If you want, I’ll put up three tents here—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 He was still speaking when a bright cloud overshadowed them. Then a voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I love and with whom I am pleased. Listen to him!”
6 The disciples were terrified when they heard this and fell facedown on the ground. 7 But Yeshua touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid!” 8 As they raised their heads, they saw no one but Yeshua.
9 On their way down the mountain, Yeshua ordered them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen. Wait until the Son of Man has been brought back to life.”
10 So the disciples asked him, “Why do the experts in Moses’ Teachings say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Yeshua answered, “Elijah is coming and will put everything in order again. 12 Actually, I can guarantee that Elijah has already come. Yet, people treated him as they pleased because they didn’t recognize him. In the same way they’re going to make the Son of Man suffer.”
13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking about John the Baptizer.
Jesus Cures a Demon-Possessed Boy(B)
14 When they came to a crowd, a man came up to Yeshua, knelt in front of him, 15 and said, “Sir, have mercy on my son. He suffers from seizures. Often he falls into fire or water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t cure him.”
17 Yeshua replied, “You unbelieving and corrupt generation! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me!”
18 Yeshua ordered the demon to come out of the boy. At that moment the boy was cured.
19 Then the disciples came to Yeshua privately and asked, “Why couldn’t we force the demon out of the boy?”
20 He told them, “Because you have so little faith. I can guarantee this truth: If your faith is the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”[a]
Jesus Again Foretells That He Will Die and Come Back to Life(C)
22 While they were traveling together in Galilee, Yeshua told them, “The Son of Man will be betrayed and handed over to people. 23 They will kill him, but on the third day he will be brought back to life.” Then the disciples became very sad.
Paying the Temple Tax
24 When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter. They asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Certainly,” he answered.
Peter went into the house. Before he could speak, Yeshua asked him, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the world collect fees or taxes? Is it from their family members or from other people?”
26 “From other people,” Peter answered.
Yeshua said to him, “Then the family members are exempt. 27 However, so that we don’t create a scandal, go to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that you catch. Open its mouth, and you will find a coin. Give that coin to them for you and me.”

The Transfiguration(A)(B)
17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John(C) the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.(D) Listen to him!”(E)
6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”(F) 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone(G) what you have seen, until the Son of Man(H) has been raised from the dead.”(I)
10 The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.(J) 12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come,(K) and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished.(L) In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer(M) at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.(N)
Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy(O)
14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures(P) and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”
17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith(Q) as small as a mustard seed,(R) you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.(S) Nothing will be impossible for you.” [21] [a]
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time
22 When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of Man(T) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. 23 They will kill him,(U) and on the third day(V) he will be raised to life.”(W) And the disciples were filled with grief.
The Temple Tax
24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax(X) came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” he replied.
When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes(Y)—from their own children or from others?”
26 “From others,” Peter answered.
“Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him. 27 “But so that we may not cause offense,(Z) go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
