2 Братя и сестри, като вярващи в нашия славен Господ Исус Христос не проявявайте пристрастия. 2 Ако в събранието ви влязат двама души — единият със златен пръстен и облечен в скъпи дрехи, а другият беден и целият в дрипи — 3 и ако към богато облечения покажете специално отношение и кажете: „Седни на това хубаво място“, а на бедно облечения кажете: „Стой там прав“ или „Седни при краката ми“, 4 вие всъщност правите разлика между хората и се поставяте в ролята на съдии — съдии, които вземат лоши решения.
5 Чуйте, скъпи братя и сестри! Нали Бог избра бедните в очите на света да бъдат богати с вяра и да наследят царството, обещано от него на онези, които го обичат? 6 А вие унижавате бедняка! Нали богатите са тези, които ви потискат и ви влачат по съдилищата? 7 Нали те хулят прекрасното име на Христос — името, с което сте известни?
8 Ако спазвате царския закон, който според Писанието гласи: „Обичай ближния си[a] както себе си!“,(A) правилно постъпвате. 9 Но ако проявите пристрастие, извършвате грях и сте осъдени като закононарушители, 10 защото ако някой спази целия закон, но не се подчини на една единствена заповед, той става виновен в престъпването на всички заповеди. 11 Това е така, защото Онзи, който е казал: „Не прелюбодействай!“,(B) е казал също и „Не убивай!“(C) Затова ако не прелюбодействаш, но извършиш убийство, ти си закононарушител.
12 Говорете и действайте като хора, които ще бъдат съдени по закона на свободата. 13 Божият съд ще бъде безмилостен към този, който не е бил милостив. Но човекът, показвал милост, може без страх да застане пред Съдията.
Вяра и добри дела
14 Каква е ползата, братя и сестри, ако някой каже, че има вяра, но няма дела? Ще го спаси ли тази вяра? 15 Ако някой брат или сестра в Христос нямат с какво да се облекат или какво да ядат 16 и ако някой от вас им каже: „Бог да ви благослови! Дано да се стоплите и нахраните!“, без да им даде онова, от което се нуждаят, ще им помогне ли с това? 17 Така и вярата сама по себе си е мъртва без дела.
18 Някой може да каже: „Възможно е да имаш вяра и да не вършиш добри дела.“ Ще му отговоря: „Покажи ми вярата си без дела, а аз ще ти покажа моята вяра чрез делата си.“ 19 Ти вярваш, че Бог е един. Добре! Но демоните също вярват това — и треперят от страх.
20 Искаш ли да разбереш, ти, глупав човече, че вяра, която не върши нищо, нищо не струва? 21 Не беше ли нашият праотец Авраам оправдан чрез делата си, когато принесе върху жертвеника своя син Исаак? 22 Виждаш, че вярата и делата му взаимно се допълваха и чрез делата вярата стана съвършена. 23 Така се изпълни Писанието, което казва: „Авраам повярва на Бога и заради вярата му Бог го прие за праведен“(D) и Авраам беше наречен „приятел на Бога“.(E) 24 Виждате, че човек се оправдава чрез дела, а не само чрез вяра.
25 Друг пример е Раав, която беше проститутка, но Бог я оправда чрез делата й: тя подслони съгледвачите и им помогна да избягат по друг път.[b]
26 Както тялото е мъртво без дух, така и вярата е мъртва без дела.

Treat Everyone the Same
2 My brothers and sisters, you are believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. So treat everyone the same. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes. And suppose a poor man in dirty old clothes also comes in. 3 Would you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes? Would you say, “Here’s a good seat for you”? Would you say to the poor man, “You stand there”? Or “Sit on the floor by my feet”? 4 If you would, aren’t you treating some people better than others? Aren’t you like judges who have evil thoughts?
5 My dear brothers and sisters, listen to me. Hasn’t God chosen those who are poor in the world’s eyes to be rich in faith? Hasn’t he chosen them to receive the kingdom? Hasn’t he promised it to those who love him? 6 But you have disrespected poor people. Aren’t rich people taking advantage of you? Aren’t they dragging you into court? 7 Aren’t they speaking evil things against the worthy name of Jesus? Remember, you belong to him.
8 The royal law is found in Scripture. It says, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Leviticus 19:18) If you really keep this law, you are doing what is right. 9 But you sin if you don’t treat everyone the same. The law judges you because you have broken it. 10 Suppose you keep the whole law but trip over just one part of it. Then you are guilty of breaking all of it. 11 God said, “Do not commit adultery.” (Exodus 20:14; Deuteronomy 5:18) He also said, “Do not commit murder.” (Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 5:17) Suppose you don’t commit adultery but do commit murder. Then you have broken the law.
12 Speak and act like people who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom. 13 Those who have not shown mercy will not receive mercy when they are judged. To show mercy is better than to judge.
Show Your Faith by What You Do
14 Suppose a person claims to have faith but doesn’t act on their faith. My brothers and sisters, can this kind of faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister has no clothes or food. 16 Suppose one of you says to them, “Go. I hope everything turns out fine for you. Keep warm. Eat well.” And suppose you do nothing about what they really need. Then what good have you done? 17 It is the same with faith. If it doesn’t cause us to do something, it’s dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith. I do good deeds.”
Show me your faith that doesn’t cause you to do good deeds. And I will show you my faith by the goods deeds I do. 19 You believe there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that. And they tremble!
20 You foolish person! Do you want proof that faith without good deeds is useless? 21 Our father Abraham offered his son Isaac on the altar. Wasn’t he considered to be right with God because of what he did? 22 So you see that what he believed and what he did were working together. What he did made his faith complete. 23 That is what Scripture means where it says, “Abraham believed God. God accepted Abraham because he believed. So his faith made him right with God.” (Genesis 15:6) And that’s not all. God called Abraham his friend. 24 So you see that a person is considered right with God by what they do. It doesn’t happen only because they believe.
25 Didn’t God consider even Rahab the prostitute to be right with him? That’s because of what she did for the spies. She gave them a place to stay. Then she sent them off in a different direction. 26 A person’s body without their spirit is dead. In the same way, faith without good deeds is dead.

Favoritism Forbidden
2 My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious(A) Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.(B) 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges(C) with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters:(D) Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world(E) to be rich in faith(F) and to inherit the kingdom(G) he promised those who love him?(H) 6 But you have dishonored the poor.(I) Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?(J) 7 Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?
8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”[a](K) you are doing right. 9 But if you show favoritism,(L) you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.(M) 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles(N) at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.(O) 11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,”[b](P) also said, “You shall not murder.”[c](Q) If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.
12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged(R) by the law that gives freedom,(S) 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful.(T) Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Faith and Deeds
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?(U) Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.(V) 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?(W) 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.(X)
18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”
Show me your faith without deeds,(Y) and I will show you my faith(Z) by my deeds.(AA) 19 You believe that there is one God.(AB) Good! Even the demons believe that(AC)—and shudder.
20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]?(AD) 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?(AE) 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together,(AF) and his faith was made complete by what he did.(AG) 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[e](AH) and he was called God’s friend.(AI) 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?(AJ) 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.(AK)
