Иефтах и ефраимиты
12 Ефраимиты приготовились к битве, переправились к Цафону и сказали Иефтаху:
– Почему ты ходил воевать с аммонитянами, а нас с собой не позвал? Мы сожжём твой дом вместе с тобой.
2 Иефтах ответил:
– Я и мой народ были в сильной ссоре с аммонитянами, и хотя я звал вас, вы не спасли меня от их рук. 3 Когда я увидел, что вы не поможете, я рискнул жизнью и переправился, чтобы сразиться с аммонитянами, и Вечный дал мне одержать над ними победу. Что же вы пришли сегодня биться со мной?
4 Иефтах собрал всех галаадитян и сразился с ефраимитами. Галаадитяне разбили их, потому что ефраимиты говорили:
– Вы, галаадитяне, отступники от Ефраима и Манассы.
5 Галаадитяне перехватили на Иордане броды к Ефраиму, и всякий раз, когда уцелевший ефраимит говорил: «Дайте мне переправиться», галаадитяне спрашивали его: «Ты ефраимит?» Если он отвечал: «Нет», 6 они говорили: «Скажи „шибболет“». Если он говорил: «Сибболет», – а ефраимиты не могли произнести это слово правильно, – они хватали и убивали его у бродов на Иордане. В то время было убито сорок две тысячи ефраимитов.
7 Иефтах был судьёй в Исраиле шесть лет. Потом галаадитянин Иефтах умер и был похоронен в одном из городов Галаада.
Ивцан, Елон и Абдон
8 После него судьёй в Исраиле был Ивцан из Вифлеема. 9 У него было тридцать сыновей и тридцать дочерей. Он выдал дочерей замуж не в своём клане, и сыновьям нашёл в жёны тридцать девушек не из своего клана. Он был судьёй в Исраиле семь лет. 10 Потом Ивцан умер и был похоронен в Вифлееме.
11 После него десять лет в Исраиле был судьёй завулонитянин Елон. 12 Потом Елон умер и был похоронен в Аялоне, что в земле Завулона.
13 После него судьёй в Исраиле был Авдон, сын Гиллела, из Пирафона. 14 У него было сорок сыновей и тридцать внуков, которые ездили на семидесяти ослах. Он был судьёй в Исраиле восемь лет. 15 Потом Авдон, сын Гиллела, умер и был похоронен в Пирафоне, что в земле Ефраима, в амаликитских нагорьях.

Jefta anfaller Efraims stam
12 Männen i Efraims stam samlades vid Safon och hotade Jefta: Varför bad du inte oss vara med i striden mot Ammon? Som straff tänker vi bränna ner ditt hus och även dig.
2 Jag frågade er, men ni vägrade komma, svarade Jefta. Ni svek oss just när vi var i stort behov av hjälp.
3 Själv riskerade jag mitt liv och drog ut i strid utan er, och Herren hjälpte mig att besegra fienden. Vad ger det er för rätt att börja strida mot oss?
4 Jefta blev förargad över glåporden från Efraims män. De påstod nämligen att männen i Gilead var avskummet från Efraim och Manasse. Jefta mobiliserade därför sin armé och gick till anfall mot Efraim.
5 Han besatte vadställena över Jordan bakom Efraims armé, och varje gång en överlevande från Efraim försökte komma över floden blev han förhörd.Tillhör du Efraims stam? frågade männen från Gilead. Den som nekade till detta,
6 uppmanades att säga schibbolet. Om det då blev sibbolet i stället för schibbolet, dödades han omedelbart. På så sätt fick 42.000 efraimiter sätta livet till.
7 Jefta var Israels domare i sex år, och när han dog begravde man honom i en av Gileads städer.
Ibsan
8 Näste domare hette Ibsan och bodde i Betlehem.
9-10 Han hade trettio söner och trettio döttrar. Han gifte bort sina döttrar med män utanför sin släkt och skaffade också trettio flickor som hustrur åt sina söner. I sju år var han domare i Israel innan han dog och blev begravd i Betlehem.
Elon
11-12 Efter honom blev Elon från Sebulon domare i tio år. Efter sin död begravdes han i Ajalon i Sebulon.
Abdon
13 Näste domare hette Abdon från Pirgaton. Han var son till Hillel
14 och hade fyrtio söner och trettio sonsöner, som alla red på åsnor. I åtta år var han domare i Israel.
15 Sedan dog han och begravdes i Pirgaton i Efraims land, i amalekiternas bergsbygd.

Jephthah and Ephraim
12 The Ephraimite forces were called out, and they crossed over to Zaphon.(A) They said to Jephthah,(B) “Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you?(C) We’re going to burn down your house over your head.”
2 Jephthah answered, “I and my people were engaged in a great struggle with the Ammonites, and although I called, you didn’t save me out of their hands. 3 When I saw that you wouldn’t help, I took my life in my hands(D) and crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave me the victory(E) over them. Now why have you come up today to fight me?”
4 Jephthah then called together the men of Gilead(F) and fought against Ephraim. The Gileadites struck them down because the Ephraimites had said, “You Gileadites are renegades from Ephraim and Manasseh.(G)” 5 The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan(H) leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he replied, “No,” 6 they said, “All right, say ‘Shibboleth.’” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.
7 Jephthah led[a] Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in a town in Gilead.
Ibzan, Elon and Abdon
8 After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem(I) led Israel. 9 He had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He gave his daughters away in marriage to those outside his clan, and for his sons he brought in thirty young women as wives from outside his clan. Ibzan led Israel seven years. 10 Then Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem.
11 After him, Elon the Zebulunite led Israel ten years. 12 Then Elon died and was buried in Aijalon(J) in the land of Zebulun.
13 After him, Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon,(K) led Israel. 14 He had forty sons and thirty grandsons,(L) who rode on seventy donkeys.(M) He led Israel eight years. 15 Then Abdon son of Hillel died and was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.(N)
