Песнь Деворы
5 [a] В тот день, когда Сисара был разбит, Девора и Варак, сын Авиноама, пели такую песнь:
2 Слава Господу!
Вожди подняли армию Израиля,
и шли они на битву добровольно.
3 Слушайте, цари!
Внимайте, правители!
Тебе пою я песню эту, Боже,
и музыкой своей тебя, Господь, восславлю.
4 Господь, когда Ты вышел из Сеира[b],
шёл маршем с Едомской земли,
земля тряслась, небеса проистекали дождём,
и облака проливали воду.
5 И сотрясались горы
перед Господом, Богом горы Синай,
перед Господом, Богом Израиля.
6 Когда правил сын Анафа Самегар[c],
во времена Иаили,
караваны и путники окольными дорогами ходили,
а главные дороги были пусты.
7 Не стало воинов в селениях Израиля,
пока к ним ты, Девора, не пришла,
пока ты не пришла, чтоб матерью им стать.
8 Война пришла к воротам городским,
когда они пошли за новыми богами[d].
И никто не нашёл ни щита, ни меча
в сорокатысячном войске Израиля.
9 Вожди Израиля, сердце моё с вами.
С теми, кто шёл на войну добровольно.
Слава Господу!
10 Внимайте, люди,
на белых ослицах едущие,
на коврах[e] сидящие и по дороге идущие!
11 У водопоев, где собираются стада,
кимвал мы слышим звон.
О подвигах Господних народ поёт.
О подвигах вождей Его в Израиле.
О том, как сыны Господа в битве у ворот
победу одержали.
12 Вставай, Девора, вставай!
И песню свою запевай!
Восстань, сын Авиноама, Варак,
и в плен пусть будет взят твой враг!
13 Вы, уцелевшие, к вождям своим идите.
Люди Господа, за мной и за воинами следуйте.
14 Ефремляне пришли из горной страны Амалика[f]
и следом за тобой, Вениамин, пошли.
Начальники шли из семьи Махира[g].
А те, кто бронзовым жезлом владел,
пришли из семьи Завулона.
15 Вожди Иссахара были с Деворой.
Народ его преданным был Вараку.
И пешими шли в долину за ним.
Много бравых солдат в твоей армии, Рувим!
16 Так почему же вы у стен овчарен[h] ваших сидели,
слушая песни пастухов?
И почему отряды Рувима погружены в раздумья были?
17 Народ Галаада спокойно жил за Иорданом.
И с кораблями люди Дана оставались.
На берегу морском народ Асира
спокойно жил у пристаней своих.
18 А народ Неффалима и народ Завулона,
рискуя своей жизнью, в горах сражение вели.
19 Цари ханаанские пришли сразиться в Фаанахе,
у вод мегиддонских, но добыча не досталась им.
20 С небес сражались звёзды,
с путей своих с Сисарой воевали.
21 Поток Киссон, эта древняя река,
увлёк людей Сисары.
Душа моя, вперёд иди, набирая силу!
22 Стук копыт лошадиных о землю был слышен,
когда Сисары мощные кони скакали.
23 Ангел Господний произнёс:
«Пусть будет проклят город Мероз,
и жители пусть будут прокляты его за то,
что отказались они выйти на помощь Господу.
Они не пришли на помощь в битве с Его могучими врагами».
24 Да будет Иаиль, жена Хевера кенеянина,
благословенна среди женщин,
в шатрах живущих!
25 Сисара воды просил напиться.
Она же молока ему дала,
в сосуде, подобающем вождям,
принесла ему лучшего молока.
26 И, выйдя, взяла кол от шатра,
а в правую руку работников молот.
Кол к виску Сисары приложила
и голову ему пронзила!
27 И к ногам он её опустился.
Сражённый пал он, к ногам её склонился,
и мёртвый там лежал.
28 В окно выглядывает мать Сисары
и громко плачет, спрашивая:
«Что колесницы сына долго так не едут?
И почему не слышен стук копыт его лошадей?»
29 И отвечали ей служанки мудрые,
как и она сама себе ответила:
30 «Наверное, они сейчас ликуют
и делят меж собой добычу.
Берут себе бойцы одну иль две девицы каждый.
Сисара же выбирает разноцветные одежды из добычи.
Одежды, вышитые с двух сторон,
какие носит победитель».
31 Так пусть враги твои все так погибнут, Господи!
А любящие Тебя будут сильны,
как солнце, восходящее во всей силе!
И покоилась земля в мире сорок лет.

5 Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam (A)sang on that day, saying:
2 “When[a] leaders (B)lead in Israel,
(C)When the people [b]willingly offer themselves,
Bless the Lord!
3 “Hear,(D) O kings! Give ear, O princes!
I, even (E)I, will sing to the Lord;
I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.
4 “Lord, (F)when You went out from Seir,
When You marched from (G)the field of Edom,
The earth trembled and the heavens poured,
The clouds also poured water;
5 (H)The mountains [c]gushed before the Lord,
(I)This Sinai, before the Lord God of Israel.
6 “In the days of (J)Shamgar, son of Anath,
In the days of (K)Jael,
(L)The highways were deserted,
And the travelers walked along the byways.
7 Village life ceased, it ceased in Israel,
Until I, Deborah, arose,
Arose a mother in Israel.
8 They chose (M)new gods;
Then there was war in the gates;
Not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel.
9 My heart is with the rulers of Israel
Who offered themselves willingly with the people.

10 “Speak, you who ride on white (N)donkeys,
Who sit in judges’ attire,
And who walk along the road.
11 Far from the noise of the archers, among the watering places,
There they shall recount the righteous acts of the Lord,
The righteous acts for His villagers in Israel;
Then the people of the Lord shall go down to the gates.
12 “Awake,(O) awake, Deborah!
Awake, awake, sing a song!
Arise, Barak, and lead your captives away,
O son of Abinoam!
13 “Then the survivors came down, the people against the nobles;
The Lord came down for me against the mighty.
14 From Ephraim were those whose roots were in (P)Amalek.
After you, Benjamin, with your peoples,
From Machir rulers came down,
And from Zebulun those who bear the recruiter’s staff.
15 And [d]the princes of Issachar were with Deborah;
As Issachar, so was Barak
Sent into the valley [e]under his command;
Among the divisions of Reuben
There were great resolves of heart.
16 Why did you sit among the sheepfolds,
To hear the pipings for the flocks?
The divisions of Reuben have great searchings of heart.
17 (Q)Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan,
And why did Dan remain [f]on ships?
(R)Asher continued at the seashore,
And stayed by his inlets.
18 (S)Zebulun is a people who jeopardized their lives to the point of death,
Naphtali also, on the heights of the battlefield.
19 “The kings came and fought,
Then the kings of Canaan fought
In (T)Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo;
They took no spoils of silver.
20 They fought from the heavens;
The stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
21 (U)The torrent of Kishon swept them away,
That ancient torrent, the torrent of Kishon.
O my soul, march on in strength!
22 Then the horses’ hooves pounded,
The galloping, galloping of his steeds.
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the [g]angel of the Lord,
‘Curse its inhabitants bitterly,
Because they did not come to the help of the Lord,
To the help of the Lord against the mighty.’
24 “Most blessed among women is Jael,
The wife of Heber the Kenite;
(V)Blessed is she among women in tents.
25 He asked for water, she gave milk;
She brought out cream in a lordly bowl.
26 She stretched her hand to the tent peg,
Her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
She pounded Sisera, she pierced his head,
She split and struck through his temple.
27 At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still;
At her feet he sank, he fell;
Where he sank, there he fell (W)dead.
28 “The mother of Sisera looked through the window,
And cried out through the lattice,
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why tarries the clatter of his chariots?’
29 Her wisest [h]ladies answered her,
Yes, she [i]answered herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoil:
To every man a girl or two;
For Sisera, plunder of dyed garments,
Plunder of garments embroidered and dyed,
Two pieces of dyed embroidery for the neck of the looter?’
31 “Thus let all Your enemies (X)perish, O Lord!
But let those who love Him be (Y)like the (Z)sun
When it comes out in full (AA)strength.”
So the land had rest for forty years.

The Song of Deborah
5 On that day Deborah(A) and Barak son of Abinoam(B) sang this song:(C)
2 “When the princes in Israel take the lead,
when the people willingly offer(D) themselves—
praise the Lord!(E)
3 “Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers!
I, even I, will sing to[a] the Lord;(F)
I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.(G)
4 “When you, Lord, went out(H) from Seir,(I)
when you marched from the land of Edom,
the earth shook,(J) the heavens poured,
the clouds poured down water.(K)
5 The mountains quaked(L) before the Lord, the One of Sinai,
before the Lord, the God of Israel.
6 “In the days of Shamgar son of Anath,(M)
in the days of Jael,(N) the highways(O) were abandoned;
travelers took to winding paths.(P)
7 Villagers in Israel would not fight;
they held back until I, Deborah,(Q) arose,
until I arose, a mother in Israel.
8 God chose new leaders(R)
when war came to the city gates,(S)
but not a shield or spear(T) was seen
among forty thousand in Israel.
9 My heart is with Israel’s princes,
with the willing volunteers(U) among the people.
Praise the Lord!
10 “You who ride on white donkeys,(V)
sitting on your saddle blankets,
and you who walk along the road,
consider 11 the voice of the singers[b] at the watering places.
They recite the victories(W) of the Lord,
the victories of his villagers in Israel.
“Then the people of the Lord
went down to the city gates.(X)
12 ‘Wake up,(Y) wake up, Deborah!(Z)
Wake up, wake up, break out in song!
Arise, Barak!(AA)
Take captive your captives,(AB) son of Abinoam.’
13 “The remnant of the nobles came down;
the people of the Lord came down to me against the mighty.
14 Some came from Ephraim,(AC) whose roots were in Amalek;(AD)
Benjamin(AE) was with the people who followed you.
From Makir(AF) captains came down,
from Zebulun those who bear a commander’s[c] staff.
15 The princes of Issachar(AG) were with Deborah;(AH)
yes, Issachar was with Barak,(AI)
sent under his command into the valley.
In the districts of Reuben
there was much searching of heart.
16 Why did you stay among the sheep pens[d](AJ)
to hear the whistling for the flocks?(AK)
In the districts of Reuben
there was much searching of heart.
17 Gilead(AL) stayed beyond the Jordan.
And Dan, why did he linger by the ships?
Asher(AM) remained on the coast(AN)
and stayed in his coves.
18 The people of Zebulun(AO) risked their very lives;
so did Naphtali(AP) on the terraced fields.(AQ)
19 “Kings came(AR), they fought,
the kings of Canaan fought.
At Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo,(AS)
they took no plunder of silver.(AT)
20 From the heavens(AU) the stars fought,
from their courses they fought against Sisera.
21 The river Kishon(AV) swept them away,
the age-old river, the river Kishon.
March on, my soul; be strong!(AW)
22 Then thundered the horses’ hooves—
galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds.(AX)
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the Lord.
‘Curse its people bitterly,
because they did not come to help the Lord,
to help the Lord against the mighty.’
24 “Most blessed of women(AY) be Jael,(AZ)
the wife of Heber the Kenite,(BA)
most blessed of tent-dwelling women.
25 He asked for water, and she gave him milk;(BB)
in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk.
26 Her hand reached for the tent peg,
her right hand for the workman’s hammer.
She struck Sisera, she crushed his head,
she shattered and pierced his temple.(BC)
27 At her feet he sank,
he fell; there he lay.
At her feet he sank, he fell;
where he sank, there he fell—dead(BD).
28 “Through the window(BE) peered Sisera’s mother;
behind the lattice she cried out,(BF)
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?’
29 The wisest of her ladies answer her;
indeed, she keeps saying to herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoils:(BG)
a woman or two for each man,
colorful garments as plunder for Sisera,
colorful garments embroidered,
highly embroidered garments(BH) for my neck—
all this as plunder?(BI)’
31 “So may all your enemies perish,(BJ) Lord!
But may all who love you be like the sun(BK)
when it rises in its strength.”(BL)
Then the land had peace(BM) forty years.
