Месть Самсона филистимлянам
15 Некоторое время спустя, во время жатвы пшеницы, Самсон взял козлёнка и пошёл навестить свою жену. Он сказал:
– Я хочу войти в комнату моей жены.
Но её отец не дал ему войти.
2 – Я был уверен, что ты отверг её, – сказал он, – и отдал её твоему другу. Разве её младшая сестра не красивее её? Возьми же её вместо той.
3 Самсон сказал ему:
– На этот раз я имею право причинить филистимлянам зло.
4 Он пошёл, поймал триста лисиц и связал их хвостами по парам. Затем он привязал по факелу между хвостами каждой пары, 5 поджёг их и выпустил лисиц на несжатые поля филистимлян. Он спалил скирды и несжатый хлеб, виноградники и масличные рощи.
6 Когда филистимляне спросили о том, кто это сделал, им сказали:
– Самсон, зять тимнатянина, потому что его жену отдали его другу.
И филистимляне пошли и сожгли её и её отца.
7 Самсон сказал им:
– Раз так, я не остановлюсь, пока не отомщу вам.
8 Он бросился на них и жестоко расправился с ними. Потом он ушёл и укрылся в расселине Етамской скалы.
9 А филистимляне разбили стан в Иудее и совершили набег на Лехи. 10 Жители Иудеи спросили их:
– Почему вы пришли воевать с нами?
– Мы пришли, чтобы связать Самсона и отомстить ему, – ответили они.
11 Три тысячи человек из Иудеи пошли к расселине Етамской скалы и сказали Самсону:
– Разве ты не понимаешь, что филистимляне правят нами? Что ты с нами сделал?
Он ответил:
– Я всего лишь отплатил им по заслугам.
12 Они сказали ему:
– Мы пришли связать тебя и выдать филистимлянам.
Самсон сказал:
– Поклянитесь, что не убьёте меня сами.
13 – Хорошо, – сказали они. – Мы только свяжем тебя и выдадим им. Мы не убьём тебя.
И, связав его двумя новыми верёвками, они вывели его из скалы. 14 Когда он подходил к Лехи, филистимляне с криками вышли ему навстречу. Дух Вечного сошёл на него, и верёвки на его руках стали словно сгоревший лён и сами свалились у него с рук. 15 Он нашёл свежую ослиную челюсть, схватил её и перебил тысячу человек.
16 Самсон сказал:
– Ослиной челюстью я положил груду на груду[a];
ослиной челюстью – тысячу перебил.
17 Сказав это, он отшвырнул челюсть. Поэтому то место было названо Рамат-Лехи («холм челюсти»).
18 Ему очень хотелось пить, и он воззвал к Вечному:
– Ты дал Твоему рабу эту великую победу. Неужели теперь я должен умереть от жажды и попасть в руки необрезанных?
19 Вечный раскрыл впадину в Лехи, и оттуда хлынула вода. Когда Самсон утолил жажду, силы вернулись к нему, и он пришёл в себя. Поэтому источник был назван Ен-Коре («источник взывающего»). Он и до сегодняшнего дня находится в Лехи.
20 Самсон был судьёй в Исраиле двадцать лет в дни филистимлян.

Samson Strikes Down the Philistines
15 Now it happened that after a while, in the time of the wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife (A)with a young goat and said, “I will go in to my wife in her room.” But her father did not let him enter. 2 And her father said, “I really thought that you hated her intensely; so I (B)gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister better than she? Please let her be yours [a]instead.” 3 Samson then said to them, “This time I shall be innocent in regard to the Philistines when I do them harm.” 4 So Samson went and caught 300 foxes and took torches and turned the foxes tail to tail and put one torch in the middle between two tails. 5 Then he set fire to the torches and sent [b]the foxes into the standing grain of the Philistines. So he caused both the shocks and the standing grain, along with the vineyards and groves, to burn. 6 Then the Philistines said, “Who did this?” And they said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because [c]he took his wife and gave her to his companion.” So the Philistines came up and (C)burned her and her father with fire. 7 Then Samson said to them, “If you act like this, then I will surely take revenge on you, but after that I will cease.” 8 And he struck them [d]ruthlessly with a great slaughter; and he went down and lived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.
9 Then the Philistines went up and camped in Judah and spread out in Lehi. 10 So the men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” And they said, “We have come up to bind Samson in order to do to him as he did to us.” 11 Then 3,000 men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam and said to Samson, “Do you not know (D)that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” And he said to them, “As they did to me, so I have done to them.” 12 And they said to him, “We have come down to bind you so that we may give you into the hand of the Philistines.” And Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you yourselves will not [e]kill me.” 13 So they said to [f]him, “No, but we will bind you fast and give you into their hands; yet surely we will not put you to death.” Then they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock.
14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. And (E)the Spirit of Yahweh [g]came upon him mightily so that the ropes that were on his arms were as flax that is burned with fire, and his bonds [h]dropped from his hands. 15 And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, so he sent forth his hand and took it and struck down (F)1,000 men with it. 16 Then Samson said,
“With the jawbone of a donkey,
[i]Heaps upon heaps,
With the jawbone of a donkey
I have struck down 1,000 men.”
17 Now it happened that when he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone from his hand; and he named that place [j]Ramath-lehi. 18 Then he became very thirsty, and he (G)called to Yahweh and said, “You have given this great salvation by the hand of Your slave, but now [k]shall I die of thirst [l]and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?” 19 So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi and water came out of it. Then he drank, (H)and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he named it [m]En-hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day. 20 And (I)he judged Israel twenty years in (J)the days of the Philistines.

Samson’s Vengeance on the Philistines
15 Later on, at the time of wheat harvest,(A) Samson(B) took a young goat(C) and went to visit his wife. He said, “I’m going to my wife’s room.”(D) But her father would not let him go in.
2 “I was so sure you hated her,” he said, “that I gave her to your companion.(E) Isn’t her younger sister more attractive? Take her instead.”
3 Samson said to them, “This time I have a right to get even with the Philistines; I will really harm them.” 4 So he went out and caught three hundred foxes(F) and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch(G) to every pair of tails, 5 lit the torches(H) and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks(I) and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.
6 When the Philistines asked, “Who did this?” they were told, “Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because his wife was given to his companion.(J)”
So the Philistines went up and burned her(K) and her father to death.(L) 7 Samson said to them, “Since you’ve acted like this, I swear that I won’t stop until I get my revenge on you.” 8 He attacked them viciously and slaughtered many of them. Then he went down and stayed in a cave in the rock(M) of Etam.(N)
9 The Philistines went up and camped in Judah, spreading out near Lehi.(O) 10 The people of Judah asked, “Why have you come to fight us?”
“We have come to take Samson prisoner,” they answered, “to do to him as he did to us.”
11 Then three thousand men from Judah went down to the cave in the rock of Etam and said to Samson, “Don’t you realize that the Philistines are rulers over us?(P) What have you done to us?”
He answered, “I merely did to them what they did to me.”
12 They said to him, “We’ve come to tie you up and hand you over to the Philistines.”
Samson said, “Swear to me(Q) that you won’t kill me yourselves.”
13 “Agreed,” they answered. “We will only tie you up and hand you over to them. We will not kill you.” So they bound him with two new ropes(R) and led him up from the rock. 14 As he approached Lehi,(S) the Philistines came toward him shouting. The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him.(T) The ropes on his arms became like charred flax,(U) and the bindings dropped from his hands. 15 Finding a fresh jawbone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men.(V)
16 Then Samson said,
“With a donkey’s jawbone
I have made donkeys of them.[a](W)
With a donkey’s jawbone
I have killed a thousand men.”
17 When he finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone; and the place was called Ramath Lehi.[b](X)
18 Because he was very thirsty, he cried out to the Lord,(Y) “You have given your servant this great victory.(Z) Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?” 19 Then God opened up the hollow place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When Samson drank, his strength returned and he revived.(AA) So the spring(AB) was called En Hakkore,[c] and it is still there in Lehi.
20 Samson led[d] Israel for twenty years(AC) in the days of the Philistines.

Pero el padre de ella no lo dejó entrar. 2 Y el padre[a] dijo: «Realmente pensé que la odiabas intensamente y se la di a tu compañero(B). ¿No es su hermana menor más hermosa[b] que ella? Te ruego que la tomes en su lugar».
3 Entonces Sansón le[c] respondió: «Esta vez no tendré culpa en cuanto a los filisteos cuando les haga daño». 4 Y Sansón fue y capturó 300 zorras, tomó antorchas, juntó las zorras cola con cola y puso una antorcha en medio de cada dos colas. 5 Después de prender fuego a las antorchas, soltó las zorras[d] en los sembrados de los filisteos, quemando la cosecha recogida, la cosecha en pie, y además las viñas y los olivares.
6 Entonces los filisteos dijeron: «¿Quién hizo esto?». Y les respondieron: «Sansón, el yerno del Timnateo, porque este tomó a su mujer y se la dio a su compañero». Y los filisteos vinieron y la quemaron a ella y a su padre(C). 7 Y Sansón les dijo: «Ya que actúan así, ciertamente me vengaré de ustedes, y después de eso, cesaré[e]». 8 Sin piedad los hirió[f] con gran mortandad. Y descendió y habitó en la hendidura de la peña de Etam.
La quijada de asno
9 Entonces los filisteos subieron y acamparon en Judá, y se esparcieron por Lehi. 10 Y los hombres de Judá dijeron: «¿Por qué han subido contra nosotros?». Y ellos dijeron: «Hemos subido para prender a Sansón a fin de hacerle como él nos ha hecho». 11 De Judá descendieron 3,000 hombres a la hendidura de la peña de Etam, y dijeron a Sansón: «¿No sabes que los filisteos reinan sobre nosotros(D)? ¿Qué, pues, es esto que nos has hecho?». «Como ellos me hicieron, así les he hecho», contestó él.
12 Y ellos le dijeron: «Hemos descendido para prenderte y entregarte en manos de los filisteos». «Júrenme que no me matarán[g]», les dijo Sansón. 13 Ellos le respondieron[h]: «No, sino que te ataremos bien y te entregaremos en sus manos. Ciertamente no te mataremos». Entonces lo ataron con dos sogas nuevas y lo sacaron de la peña.
14 Al llegar él a Lehi, los filisteos salieron a su encuentro gritando. Y el Espíritu del Señor vino[i] sobre él(E) con poder, y las sogas que estaban en sus brazos fueron como lino quemado con fuego y las ataduras cayeron[j] de sus manos. 15 Y halló una quijada de asno fresca aún, y extendiendo su mano, la tomó y mató[k] a 1,000 hombres con ella(F).
16 Entonces Sansón dijo:
«Con la quijada de un asno,
Montones sobre montones[l],
Con la quijada de un asno
He matado[m] a 1,000 hombres».
17 Al terminar de hablar, arrojó la quijada de su mano, y llamó a aquel lugar Ramat Lehi[n].
18 Después sintió una gran sed, y clamando al Señor(G), dijo: «Tú has dado esta gran liberación por mano de Tu siervo, y ahora, ¿moriré yo[o] de sed y[p] caeré en manos de los incircuncisos?». 19 Y abrió Dios la cuenca que está en Lehi y salió agua de ella. Cuando bebió, recobró sus fuerzas[q] y se reanimó(H). Por eso llamó a aquel lugar[r] En Hacore[s], el cual está en Lehi hasta el día de hoy.
20 Sansón juzgó a Israel veinte años(I) en los días de los filisteos(J).
