12 Ефраимиты приготовились к битве, переправились к Цафону и сказали Иефтаху:
– Почему ты ходил воевать с аммонитянами, а нас с собой не позвал? Мы сожжём твой дом вместе с тобой.
2 Иефтах ответил:
– Я и мой народ были в сильной ссоре с аммонитянами, и хотя я звал вас, вы не спасли меня от их рук. 3 Когда я увидел, что вы не поможете, я рискнул жизнью и переправился, чтобы сразиться с аммонитянами, и Вечный дал мне одержать над ними победу. Что же вы пришли сегодня биться со мной?
4 Иефтах собрал всех галаадитян и сразился с ефраимитами. Галаадитяне разбили их, потому что ефраимиты говорили:
– Вы, галаадитяне, отступники от Ефраима и Манассы.
5 Галаадитяне перехватили на Иордане броды к Ефраиму, и всякий раз, когда уцелевший ефраимит говорил: «Дайте мне переправиться», галаадитяне спрашивали его: «Ты ефраимит?» Если он отвечал: «Нет», 6 они говорили: «Скажи „шибболет“». Если он говорил: «Сибболет», – а ефраимиты не могли произнести это слово правильно, – они хватали и убивали его у бродов на Иордане. В то время было убито сорок две тысячи ефраимитов.
7 Иефтах был судьёй в Исраиле шесть лет. Потом галаадитянин Иефтах умер и был похоронен в одном из городов Галаада.
Ивцан, Елон и Абдон
8 После него судьёй в Исраиле был Ивцан из Вифлеема. 9 У него было тридцать сыновей и тридцать дочерей. Он выдал дочерей замуж не в своём клане, и сыновьям нашёл в жёны тридцать девушек не из своего клана. Он был судьёй в Исраиле семь лет. 10 Потом Ивцан умер и был похоронен в Вифлееме.
11 После него десять лет в Исраиле был судьёй завулонитянин Елон. 12 Потом Елон умер и был похоронен в Аялоне, что в земле Завулона.
13 После него судьёй в Исраиле был Авдон, сын Гиллела, из Пирафона. 14 У него было сорок сыновей и тридцать внуков, которые ездили на семидесяти ослах. Он был судьёй в Исраиле восемь лет. 15 Потом Авдон, сын Гиллела, умер и был похоронен в Пирафоне, что в земле Ефраима, в амаликитских нагорьях.

Jephthah Fights Ephraim
12 Then the men of Ephraim were summoned, and they crossed [a]to Zaphon and (A)said to Jephthah, “Why did you cross over to fight against the sons of Ammon, but did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you.” 2 Then Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the sons of Ammon. And I cried out to you, but you did not save me from their hand. 3 And I saw that you would not save me, so I [b](B)took my life in my hands and crossed over against the sons of Ammon, and Yahweh gave them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?” 4 Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim down because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, O Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim and in the midst of Manasseh.” 5 And the Gileadites (C)captured the fords of the Jordan opposite Ephraim. And it happened when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead would say to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No,” 6 then they would say to him, “Say now, ‘Shibboleth.’” But he said, “Sibboleth,” for he could not [c]pronounce it correctly. Then they seized him and slaughtered him at the fords of the Jordan. Thus there fell at that time 42,000 of Ephraim.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
Ibzan, Elon, and Abdon Judge Israel
8 Then Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel after him. 9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters whom he [d]gave in marriage outside the family, and he brought in thirty daughters from outside for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years. 10 Then Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem.
11 Then Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel after him; and he judged Israel ten years. 12 And Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
13 Then Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel after him. 14 And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys; and he judged Israel eight years. 15 Then Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died and was buried at Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

12 Los hombres de Efraín se reunieron y cruzaron el Jordán hacia el norte[a], y dijeron a Jefté: «¿Por qué cruzaste a pelear contra los amonitas sin llamarnos para que fuéramos contigo(A)? Quemaremos tu casa sobre ti». 2 Y Jefté les respondió: «Yo y mi pueblo estábamos en gran lucha con los amonitas, y cuando los llamé a ustedes, no me libraron de sus manos. 3 Viendo, pues, que no me iban a librar, arriesgué mi vida[b](B) y crucé contra los amonitas, y el Señor los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué, pues, han subido hoy a pelear contra mí?».
4 Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín. Los hombres de Galaad derrotaron[c] a Efraín, porque estos decían: «Son fugitivos de Efraín, ustedes los galaaditas, en medio de Efraín y en medio de Manasés».
5 Y se apoderaron los galaaditas de los vados del Jordán(C) al lado opuesto de Efraín. Cuando alguno de los fugitivos de Efraín decía: «Déjenme cruzar», los hombres de Galaad le decían: «¿Eres efrateo?». Si él respondía: «No», 6 entonces, le decían: «Di, pues, la palabra Shibolet». Pero él decía: «Sibolet», porque no podía pronunciarla correctamente[d]. Entonces le echaban mano y lo mataban junto a los vados del Jordán. Y cayeron en aquella ocasión 42,000 de los de Efraín. 7 Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Y murió Jefté el galaadita, y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.
Ibzán, Elón y Abdón, jueces de Israel
8 Después de Jefté[e] juzgó a Israel Ibzán de Belén. 9 Y tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas, a estas las casó[f] fuera de la familia, y trajo de afuera treinta hijas para sus hijos. Él juzgó a Israel siete años. 10 Murió Ibzán, y fue sepultado en Belén.
11 Después de Ibzán, juzgó a Israel Elón el zabulonita; quien juzgó a Israel diez años. 12 Murió Elón el zabulonita, y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.
13 Entonces Abdón, hijo de Hilel el piratonita, juzgó a Israel después de Elón[g]. 14 Tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos que cabalgaban en setenta asnos. Él juzgó a Israel ocho años. 15 Y murió Abdón, hijo de Hilel el piratonita, y fue sepultado en Piratón, en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.
