Мъртви за греха, но живи в Христос

6 Какво да кажем? Че трябва да продължим да грешим, за да се умножи Божията благодат? ²Не, разбира се! Как можем ние, които умряхме за греха, да продължим да живеем в него? ³Или не знаете, че ние, които бяхме кръстени в Христос Исус, бяхме кръстени в неговата смърт? ⁴И чрез кръщението в смъртта му бяхме погребани заедно с него, за да може както Христос бе възкресен от мъртвите чрез славата на Отца, така и ние също да живеем нов живот.

⁵Защото ако сме били съединени с него в смърт като неговата, ще бъдем съединени с него и във възкресение като неговото. ⁶Знаем, че старата ни същност бе разпъната на кръста заедно с Христос, за да бъдат унищожени грешните ни тела и да не бъдем вече роби на греха, ⁷защото този, който е умрял, е освободен от властта на греха.

⁸И след като умряхме с Христос, вярваме, че и ще живеем с него, ⁹защото Христос, който възкръсна от мъртвите, вече няма да умре и смъртта вече не господства над него. ¹⁰Когато умря с тази смърт, Христос умря за греха веднъж и завинаги, а животът, който сега живее, е живот с Бога. ¹¹Така и вие смятайте себе си мъртви за греха, но живи за Бога чрез Христос Исус.

¹²Грехът не трябва да господства над земното ви тяло, за да не се подчинявате на неговите грешни желания, ¹³а също и не позволявайте никоя част от вашето тяло да бъде използвана като оръдие на греха в служба на злото. Служете на Бога като хора, възкръснали от мъртвите и живи сега. Нека телата ви бъдат оръдия на Бога в служба на доброто. ¹⁴Грехът няма да господства над вас, защото живеете не под закона, а под Божията благодат.

Роби на праведността

¹⁵Какво да правим тогава? Да грешим, защото живеем не под закона, а под Божията благодат? Не, разбира се! ¹⁶Не знаете ли, че когато служите на някого и му се покорявате, сте негови роби — или роби на греха, което води до смърт, или роби, покоряващи се на Бога, което води до оправдание? ¹⁷Вие бяхте роби на греха, но се подчинихте с цялото си сърце на учението, което ви бе дадено. Благодарим на Бога за това! ¹⁸Бяхте освободени от греха и станахте роби, които вършат онова, което Бог изисква. ¹⁹За да стане ясно, използвам пример от живота, защото ви е трудно да разберете. Както бяхте роби на нечистотата и злото и живеехте за злото, така сега трябва да станете роби, които вършат онова, което Бог изисква, и да се посветите на Бога.

²⁰Когато бяхте роби на греха, не бяхте задължени да вършите онова, което Бог изисква. ²¹И какви плодове пожънахте тогава? Romans 6

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

6 What shall we say then? ^(A)Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? ²By no means! How can ^(B)we who died to sin still live in it? ³Do you not know that all of us ^(C)who have been baptized ^(D)into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴We were ^(E)buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as ^(F)Christ was raised from the dead by ^(G)the glory of the Father, we too might walk in ^(H)newness of life.

⁵For ^(I)if we have been united with him in ^(J)a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. ⁶We know that ^(K)our old self^[a] ^(L)was crucified with him in order that ^(M)the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. ⁷For ^(N)one who has died ^(O)has been set free^[b] from sin. ⁸Now ^(P)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. ⁹We know that ^(Q)Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; ^(R)death no longer has dominion over him. ¹⁰For the death he died he died to sin, ^(S)once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. ¹¹So you also must consider yourselves ^(T)dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

¹²Let not ^(U)sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. ¹³^(V)Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but ^(W)present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. ¹⁴For ^(X)sin ^(Y)will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Slaves to Righteousness

¹⁵What then? ^(Z)Are we to sin ^(AA)because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! ¹⁶Do you not know that if you present yourselves ^(AB)to anyone as obedient slaves,^[c] you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷But ^(AC)thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the ^(AD)standard of teaching to which you were committed, ¹⁸and, ^(AE)having been set free from sin, ^(AF)have become slaves of righteousness. ¹⁹^(AG)I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For ^(AH)just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members ^(AI)as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

²⁰^(AJ)For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. ²¹^(AK)But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things ^(AL)of which you are now ashamed? ^(AM)For the end of those things is death. ²²But now that you ^(AN)have been set free from sin and ^(AO)have become slaves of God, ^(AP)the fruit you get leads to sanctification and ^(AQ)its end, eternal life. ²³^(AR)For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ

6 What shall we say, then?^(A) Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?^(B) ²By no means! We are those who have died to sin;^(C) how can we live in it any longer? ³Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized^(D) into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death^(E) in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead^(F) through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.^(G)

⁵For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.^(H) ⁶For we know that our old self^(I) was crucified with him^(J) so that the body ruled by sin^(K) might be done away with,^[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin^(L)— ⁷because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.^(M)

⁸Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.^(N) ⁹For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead,^(O) he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.^(P) ¹⁰The death he died, he died to sin^(Q) once for all;^(R) but the life he lives, he lives to God.

¹¹In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin^(S) but alive to God in Christ Jesus. ¹²Therefore do not let sin reign^(T) in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. ¹³Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness,^(U) but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.^(V) ¹⁴For sin shall no longer be your master,^(W) because you are not under the law,^(X) but under grace.^(Y)

Slaves to Righteousness

¹⁵What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace?^(Z) By no means! ¹⁶Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey^(AA)—whether you are slaves to sin,^(AB) which leads to death,^(AC) or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷But thanks be to God^(AD) that, though you used to be slaves to sin,^(AE) you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching^(AF) that has now claimed your allegiance. ¹⁸You have been set free from sin^(AG) and have become slaves to righteousness.^(AH)

¹⁹I am using an example from everyday life^(AI) because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness^(AJ) leading to holiness. ²⁰When you were slaves to sin,^(AK) you were free from the control of righteousness.^(AL) ²¹What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!^(AM) ²²But now that you have been set free from sin^(AN) and have become slaves of God,^(AO) the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.^(AP) ²³For the wages of sin is death,^(AQ) but the gift of God is eternal life^(AR) in^[b] Christ Jesus our Lord.
