Вярата – победа над света
5 (A)Всеки, който вярва, че Иисус е Христос, е Божие дете. И всеки, който обича Родилия, обича и Родения от Него. 2 По това познаваме, че обичаме Божиите деца – като обичаме Бога и спазваме Неговите заповеди. 3 (B)Защото любовта към Бога се състои в това: да спазваме заповедите Му. А Неговите заповеди не са тежки. 4 (C)Защото всеки, който е дете на Бога, побеждава света. И тази е силата[a], която победи света – нашата вяра. 5 Кой побеждава света, ако не този, който вярва, че Иисус е Божият Син?
Божието свидетелство за Сина
6 Този е Иисус Христос, Който дойде чрез вода и кръв, както и чрез Духа[b] – не само чрез вода, а чрез вода и кръв. И Духът е, Който свидетелства, понеже Духът е истината[c]. 7 Защото три са, които свидетелстват[d]: 8 духът, водата и кръвта; и трите свидетелстват за едно. 9 (D)Ако приемаме човешкото свидетелство, Божието свидетелство е по-голямото, защото е Божие свидетелство, с което Бог свидетелства за Своя Син. 10 (E)Който вярва в Сина Божий, има това свидетелство у себе си. Който не вярва в Бога, прави Го лъжец, защото не е повярвал в свидетелството, с което Бог е свидетелствал за Своя Син. 11 (F)А свидетелството е това, че Бог ни е дарил вечен живот и този живот е чрез Неговия Син. 12 Който има Сина Божий, има този живот. Който няма Сина Божий, няма този живот.
Вярата и вечният живот
13 Това писах на вас, вярващите в Сина Божий, за да знаете, че имате вечен живот, и да вярвате в Сина Божий[e]. 14 (G)И дръзновението, което имаме пред Него, се състои в това, че ако молим за нещо по Неговата воля, Той ни слуша. 15 И ако знаем, че Той ни слуша, за каквото молим, знаем и че получаваме, каквото сме Го помолили.
16 (H)Ако някой види своя брат да съгрешава с грях, който не води към смърт, нека се моли и Бог ще даде живот на такъв – именно на такива, които съгрешават с грях, който не води към смърт. Има смъртен грях – не за него казвам да се моли. 17 Всяка неправда е грях, но има грях, който не води към смърт.
18 (I)Знаем, че всеки, който е дете на Бога, не съгрешава, но Роденият от Бога го пази и лукавият не се докосва до него. 19 (J)Знаем, че ние принадлежим на Бога и че цял свят лежи в злото. 20 (K)Знаем също, че Божият Син дойде и ни даде разум, за да познаем истинския Бог. И ние пребъдваме в истинския Бог – в Неговия Син Иисус Христос. Той е истински Бог и вечен живот.

5 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And everyone who loves Him Who begat, also loves him who is begotten of Him.
2 In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep His Commandments.
3 For this is the love of God: that we keep His Commandments. And His Commandments are not burdensome.
4 For all that is born of God overcomes this world. And this is that victory that has overcome this world: our faith.
5 Who is it that overcomes this world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 This is that Jesus Christ Who came by water and blood - not by water only, but by water and blood - and it is that Spirit that bears witness. For that Spirit is Truth.
7 For there are Three Who bear record in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these Three are One.
8 And there are Three Who bear record on the Earth: the Spirit and the Water and the Blood. And these Three agree in One.
9 If we receive the witness of man, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God which He testified about His Son:
10 The one who believes in that Son of God, has the witness in himself. The one who does not believe God, has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the record that God witnessed of His Son.
11 And this is that record: that God has given us eternal life. And this life is in His Son.
12 The one who has that Son, has that life. And the one who does not have that Son of God, does not have that life.
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the Name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life (and that you may believe in the Name of the Son of God).
14 And this is that assurance that we have in Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have the petitions that we have desired from Him.
16 If anyone sees his brother sin a sin that does not lead to death, let him ask, and He shall give him life for those whose sin does not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death. I do not say that you should pray for that.
17 All unrighteousness is sin. But there is sin that does not lead to death.
18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin. But the one who is begotten of God guards himself. And the wicked one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are of God, and this whole world lies in wickedness.
20 But we know that the Son of God has come and has given us a mind to know Him Who is true. And we are in Him Who is true; in His Son Jesus Christ. The same is that very God and that Eternal Life.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

5 Wer da glaubt, daß Jesus sei der Christus, der ist von Gott geboren; und wer da liebt den, der ihn geboren hat, der liebt auch den, der von ihm geboren ist.
2 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir Gottes Kinder lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote halten.
3 Denn das ist die Liebe zu Gott, daß wir seine Gebote halten; und seine Gebote sind nicht schwer.
4 Denn alles, was von Gott geboren ist, überwindet die Welt; und unser Glaube ist der Sieg, der die Welt überwunden hat.
5 Wer ist aber, der die Welt überwindet, wenn nicht, der da glaubt, daß Jesus Gottes Sohn ist?
6 Dieser ist's, der da kommt mit Wasser und Blut, Jesus Christus; nicht mit Wasser allein, sondern mit Wasser und Blut. Und der Geist ist's, der da zeugt; denn der Geist ist die Wahrheit.
7 Denn drei sind, die da zeugen: der Geist und das Wasser und das Blut;
8 und die drei sind beisammen.
9 So wir der Menschen Zeugnis annehmen, so ist Gottes Zeugnis größer; denn Gottes Zeugnis ist das, das er gezeugt hat von seinem Sohn.
10 Wer da glaubt an den Sohn Gottes, der hat solches Zeugnis bei sich. Wer Gott nicht glaubt, der macht ihn zum Lügner; denn er glaubt nicht dem Zeugnis, das Gott zeugt von seinem Sohn.
11 Und das ist das Zeugnis, daß uns Gott das ewige Leben hat gegeben; und solches Leben ist in seinem Sohn.
12 Wer den Sohn Gottes hat, der hat das Leben; wer den Sohn Gottes nicht hat, der hat das Leben nicht.
13 Solches habe ich euch geschrieben, die ihr glaubet an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes, auf daß ihr wisset, daß ihr das ewige Leben habt, und daß ihr glaubet an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes.
14 Und das ist die Freudigkeit, die wir haben zu ihm, daß, so wir etwas bitten nach seinem Willen, so hört er uns.
15 Und so wir wissen, daß er uns hört, was wir bitten, so wissen wir, daß wir die Bitte haben, die wir von ihm gebeten haben.
16 So jemand sieht seinen Bruder sündigen eine Sünde nicht zum Tode, der mag bitten; so wird er geben das Leben denen, die da sündigen nicht zum Tode. Es gibt eine Sünde zum Tode; für die sage ich nicht, daß jemand bitte.
17 Alle Untugend ist Sünde; und es ist etliche Sünde nicht zum Tode.
18 Wir wissen, daß, wer von Gott geboren ist, der sündigt nicht; sondern wer von Gott geboren ist, der bewahrt sich, und der Arge wird ihn nicht antasten.
19 Wir wissen, daß wir von Gott sind und die ganze Welt im Argen liegt.
20 Wir wissen aber, daß der Sohn Gottes gekommen ist und hat uns einen Sinn gegeben, daß wir erkennen den Wahrhaftigen; und wir sind in dem Wahrhaftigen, in seinem Sohn Jesus Christus. Dieser ist der wahrhaftige Gott und das ewige Leben.
21 Kindlein, hütet euch vor den Abgöttern! Amen.

Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
5 Everyone who believes(A) that Jesus is the Christ(B) is born of God,(C) and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.(D) 2 This is how we know(E) that we love the children of God:(F) by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.(G) And his commands are not burdensome,(H) 4 for everyone born of God(I) overcomes(J) the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.(K)
6 This is the one who came by water and blood(L)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.(M) 7 For there are three(N) that testify: 8 the[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony,(O) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,(P) which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.(Q) Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar,(R) because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,(S) and this life is in his Son.(T) 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.(U)
Concluding Affirmations
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God(V) so that you may know that you have eternal life.(W) 14 This is the confidence(X) we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.(Y) 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know(Z) that we have what we asked of him.(AA)
16 If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life.(AB) I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.(AC) I am not saying that you should pray about that.(AD) 17 All wrongdoing is sin,(AE) and there is sin that does not lead to death.(AF)
18 We know that anyone born of God(AG) does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one(AH) cannot harm them.(AI) 19 We know that we are children of God,(AJ) and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.(AK) 20 We know also that the Son of God has come(AL) and has given us understanding,(AM) so that we may know him who is true.(AN) And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.(AO)
