9 Мудрість свій дім збудувала, сім стовпів своїх витесала.
2 Зарізала те, що було на заріз, змішала вино своє, і трапезу свою приготовила.
3 Дівчат своїх вислала, і кличе вона на висотах міських:
4 Хто бідний на розум, хай прийде сюди, а хто нерозумний, говорить йому:
5 Ходіть, споживайте із хліба мого, та пийте з вина, що його я змішала!
6 Покиньте глупоту і будете жити, і ходіте дорогою розуму!
7 Хто картає насмішника, той собі ганьбу бере, хто ж безбожникові виговорює, сором собі набуває.
8 Не дорікай пересмішникові, щоб тебе не зненавидів він, викартай мудрого й він покохає тебе.
9 Дай мудрому й він помудріє іще, навчи праведного і прибільшить він мудрости!
10 Страх Господній початок премудрости, а пізнання Святого це розум,
11 бо мною помножаться дні твої, і додадуть тобі років життя.
12 Якщо ти змудрів то для себе змудрів, а як станеш насмішником, сам понесеш!
13 Жінка безглузда криклива, нерозумна, і нічого не знає!
14 Сідає вона на сидінні при вході до дому свого, на високостях міста,
15 щоб кликати тих, хто дорогою йде, хто путтю своєю простує:
16 Хто бідний на розум, хай прийде сюди, а хто нерозумний, то каже йому:
17 Вода крадена солодка, і приємний прихований хліб...
18 І не відає він, що самі там мерці, у глибинах шеолу запрошені нею!...

Мудрість і Глупота
9 Мудрість збудувала собі дім,
поставила його на семи стовпах[a].
2 Вона приготувала м’ясо й розбавила вино,
накрила на стіл.
3 Вона послала своїх служниць до міста,
щоб ті зійшли на найвище місце в місті
й сповістили від її імені:
4 «Приходьте до мене всі,
хто має потребу в мудрості».
А кому бракує розуму, вона каже:
5 «Приходьте, почастуйтеся тим,
що маю, випийте вина, яке я зробила.
6 Залиште нерозумних і живіть!
Зростайте на шляху мудрості».
7 Хто повчає богохульника, дістає зневагу,
а хто ганить кривдника, той страждає.
8 Не повчай богохульника, бо він зненавидить тебе,
дорікни мудрому, і він полюбить тебе.
9 Поясни мудрому,
і він набереться ще більше мудрості,
повчи праведника, і він ще глибше пізнає.
10 Мудрість бере свій початок зі страху Господнього,
пізнання святості—це розум.
11 Зі мною твої дні примножаться,
роки життя твого додадуться.
12 Якщо ти наберешся мудрості,
це буде тобі на користь, якщо будеш надмірним,
сам страждатимеш від цього.
13 Глупота—то жінка невгамовна, нерозумна,
вона не знає нічого.
14 Вона сідає на порозі дому свого,
всідається на найвищому місці міста
15 і галасливо зачіпає перехожих,
що поспішають у справах:
16 «Приходьте до мене всі нерозумні».
Невігласу вона каже таке:
17 «Солодка крадена вода,
а хліб, здобутий потай,—найсмачніший».
18 І не здогадується він,
що там гостюють лише мерці,
її гостям місце в глибинах Шеолу.

The Way of Wisdom
9 Wisdom has (A)built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 (B)She has slaughtered her meat,
(C)She has mixed her wine,
She has also [a]furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “Whoever(D) is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5 “Come,(E) eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.
7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8 (F)Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
(G)Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, (H)and he will increase in learning.
10 “The(I) fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 (J)For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
12 (K)If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
The Way of Folly
13 (L)A foolish woman is [b]clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing.
14 For she sits at the door of her house,
On a seat (M)by the highest places of the city,
15 To call to those who pass by,
Who go straight on their way:
16 “Whoever(N) is [c]simple, let him turn in here”;
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17 “Stolen(O) water is sweet,
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that (P)the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of [d]hell.

Invitations of Wisdom and Folly
9 Wisdom has built(A) her house;
she has set up[a] its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;(B)
she has also set her table.(C)
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls(D)
from the highest point of the city,(E)
4 “Let all who are simple(F) come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(G) she says,
5 “Come,(H) eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.(I)
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;(J)
walk in the way of insight.”(K)
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.(L)
8 Do not rebuke mockers(M) or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.(N)
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.(O)
10 The fear of the Lord(P) is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One(Q) is understanding.(R)
11 For through wisdom[b] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.(S)
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
13 Folly is an unruly woman;(T)
she is simple and knows nothing.(U)
14 She sits at the door of her house,
on a seat at the highest point of the city,(V)
15 calling out(W) to those who pass by,
who go straight on their way,
16 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(X) she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is delicious!(Y)”
18 But little do they know that the dead are there,
that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.(Z)

3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
