7 Потом я увидел четырех ангелов: они стояли на четырех углах земли и удерживали четыре ветра земли, чтобы те не дули ни на землю, ни на море, ни на какое дерево. 2 Я увидел еще одного ангела: он поднимался с востока и держал печать живого Бога. Он громко крикнул четырем ангелам, которым было дано право причинять вред земле и морю:
3 – Не причиняйте вреда ни земле, ни морю, ни деревьям, пока мы не отметим слуг нашего Бога, поставив печать им на лоб[a].
4 Я услышал число отмеченных печатью. Было отмечено 144 000 человек, и это были люди из всех родов Израиля:
5 из рода Иуды были отмечены печатью 12 000,
из рода Рувима – 12 000,
из рода Гада – 12 000,
6 из рода Асира – 12 000,
из рода Неффалима – 12 000,
из рода Манассии – 12 000,
7 из рода Симеона – 12 000,
из рода Левия – 12 000,
из рода Иссахара – 12 000,
8 из рода Завулона – 12 000,
из рода Иосифа – 12 000,
и из рода Вениамина – 12 000 отмеченных печатью.

9 Потом я увидел огромное, неисчислимое множество народа. Там были люди из каждого рода, каждого племени, каждого народа и каждого языка. Они стояли перед троном и перед Ягненком. На них были белые одежды, и в руках они держали пальмовые ветви[b]. 10 Они громко восклицали:
– Спасение у Бога нашего,
сидящего на троне,
и у Ягненка!
11 Все ангелы стояли вокруг трона, старцев и четырех живых существ. Они пали перед троном на свои лица и поклонились Богу. 12 Они говорили:
Аминь!
Хвала и слава,
мудрость и благодарность,
честь, власть и сила
у нашего Бога вовеки!
Аминь.
13 Затем один из старцев спросил меня:
– Кто эти люди, одетые в белые одежды? Откуда они пришли?
14 Я ответил:
– Ты знаешь, господин мой.
Он тогда сказал:
– Это те, кто пришел от великой скорби. Они омыли свою одежду и отбелили ее в крови Ягненка.
15 Поэтому они стоят перед троном Бога
и служат день и ночь в Его храме,
и Сидящий на троне раскинет над ними Свой шатер.
16 Они больше не будут голодать
и томиться от жажды,
их больше не будет палить солнце
и никакая жара.
17 Ягненок, находящийся посреди трона, будет пасти их
и поведет их к источникам живой воды,
и Сам Бог сотрет всякую слезу с их глаз[c].

11 Все Ангелы стояли вокруг престола, старцев и четырёх животных, и все они пали ниц перед престолом и стали поклоняться Богу, 12 говоря: «Аминь! Хвала и слава, мудрость, благодарение, честь, власть и сила Богу нашему во веки веков. Аминь!»
13 Тогда один из старцев спросил меня: «Кто эти люди, облачённые в белые одежды, и откуда они пришли?»
14 Я ответил ему: «Господин, ты знаешь, кто они».
Тогда он сказал мне: «Эти люди—те, кто прошли через великие испытания. Они омыли свои одежды[a] в крови Агнца и сделали их чистыми и белыми. 15 Вот почему они стоят сейчас перед престолом Божьим и день и ночь поклоняются Богу в Его храме. Сидящий на престоле защитит их Своим присутствием. 16 Они никогда больше не будут испытывать ни голода, ни жажды. Их никогда не опалит солнце или испепеляющий жар. 17 Агнец, Который находится перед самым престолом, будет их Пастырем и поведёт их к животворному источнику, и Бог осушит их слёзы».

7 Ezek után láték négy angyalt állani a földnek négy szegletén, a földnek négy szélét tartva, hogy szél ne fújjon a földre, se a tengerre, se semmi élõfára.
2 És láték más angyalt feljõni napkelet felõl, a kinek kezében vala az élõ Istennek pecséte; és nagy szóval kiálta a négy angyalnak, a kinek adatott, hogy ártson a földnek és a tengernek,
3 Ezt mondván: Ne ártsatok se a földnek, se a tengernek, se a fáknak addig, míg meg nem pecsételjük a mi Istenünk szolgáit az õ homlokukon.
4 És hallám a megpecsételtek számát: Száznegyvennégyezer, az Izráel fiainak minden nemzetségébõl elpecsételve.
5 A Júda nemzetségébõl tizenkétezer elpecsételt [vala;] a Ruben nemzetségébõl tizenkétezer elpecsételt; a Gád nemzetségébõl tizenkétezer elpecsételt;

9 Azután látám, és ímé egy nagy sokaság, a melyet senki meg nem számlálhatott, minden nemzetbõl és ágazatból, és népbõl és nyelvbõl; és a királyiszék elõtt és a Bárány elõtt állnak vala, fehér ruhákba öltözve, és az õ kezeikben pálmaágak;
10 És kiáltanak nagy szóval, mondván: Az idvesség a mi Istenünké, a ki a királyiszékben ül, és a Bárányé!
11 Az angyalok pedig mindnyájan a királyiszék, a Vének és a négy lelkes állat körül állnak vala, és a királyiszék elõtt arczczal leborulának, és imádák az Istent,
12 Ezt mondván: Ámen: áldás és dicsõség és bölcseség és hálaadás és tisztesség és hatalom és erõ a mi Istenünknek mind örökkön örökké, Ámen.
13 Akkor felele egy a Vének közül, és monda nékem: Ezek, a kik a fehér ruhákba vannak öltözve, kik és honnét jöttek?
14 És mondék néki: Uram, te tudod. És monda nékem: Ezek azok, a kik jöttek a nagy nyomorúságból, és megmosták az õ ruháikat, és megfehérítették ruháikat a Bárány vérében.
15 Ezért vannak az Isten királyiszéke elõtt; és szolgálnak neki éjjel és nappal az õ templomában; és a ki a királyiszékben ül, kiterjeszti sátorát felettök.
16 Nem éheznek többé, sem nem szomjúhoznak többé; sem a nap nem tûz rájok, sem semmi hõség:
17 Mert a Bárány, a ki a királyiszéknek közepette van, legelteti õket, és a vizeknek élõ forrásaira viszi õket; és eltöröl Isten az õ szemeikrõl minden könyet.

7 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners(A) of the earth, holding back the four winds(B) of the earth to prevent(C) any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal(D) of the living God.(E) He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:(F) 3 “Do not harm(G) the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads(H) of the servants of our God.” 4 Then I heard the number(I) of those who were sealed: 144,000(J) from all the tribes of Israel.
5 From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from the tribe of Gad 12,000,
6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,
7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000,
from the tribe of Levi 12,000,
from the tribe of Issachar 12,000,
8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000,
from the tribe of Joseph 12,000,

The Great Multitude in White Robes
9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language,(K) standing before the throne(L) and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes(M) and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders(P) and the four living creatures.(Q) They fell down on their faces(R) before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
“Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!”(S)
13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes(T)—who are they, and where did they come from?”
14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”
And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes(U) and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.(V) 15 Therefore,
“they are before the throne of God(W)
and serve him(X) day and night in his temple;(Y)
and he who sits on the throne(Z)
will shelter them with his presence.(AA)
16 ‘Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.(AB)
The sun will not beat down on them,’[a]
nor any scorching heat.(AC)
17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;(AD)
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’[b](AE)
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’[c]”(AF)

The 144,000 Sealed. 1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth,[b] holding back the four winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on land or sea or against any tree.(A) 2 Then I saw another angel come up from the East,[c] holding the seal of the living God. He cried out in a loud voice to the four angels who were given power to damage the land and the sea, 3 “Do not damage the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”(B) 4 I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand marked[d] from every tribe of the Israelites:(C) 5 twelve thousand were marked from the tribe of Judah,[e] twelve thousand from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand from the tribe of Gad, 6 twelve thousand from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand from the tribe of Manasseh, 7 twelve thousand from the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand from the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand from the tribe of Issachar, 8 twelve thousand from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand from the tribe of Joseph, and twelve thousand were marked from the tribe of Benjamin.
Triumph of the Elect. 9 After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches[f] in their hands. 10 They cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation comes from[g] our God, who is seated on the throne,
and from the Lamb.”
11 All the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They prostrated themselves before the throne, worshiped God, 12 and exclaimed:
“Amen. Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving,
honor, power, and might
be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
13 Then one of the elders spoke up and said to me, “Who are these wearing white robes, and where did they come from?” 14 I said to him, “My lord, you are the one who knows.” He said to me, “These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress;[h] they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.(D)
15 “For this reason they stand before God’s throne
and worship him day and night in his temple.
The one who sits on the throne will shelter them.
16 They will not hunger or thirst anymore,
nor will the sun or any heat strike them.(E)
17 For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them
and lead them to springs of life-giving water,[i]
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”(F)

- 7:1–17 An interlude of two visions precedes the breaking of the seventh seal, just as two more will separate the sixth and seventh trumpets (Rev 10). In the first vision (Rev 7:1–8), the elect receive the seal of the living God as protection against the coming cataclysm; cf. Rev 14:1; Ez 9:4–6; 2 Cor 1:22; Eph 1:13; 4:30. The second vision (Rev 7:9–17) portrays the faithful Christians before God’s throne to encourage those on earth to persevere to the end, even to death.
- 7:1 The four corners of the earth: the earth is seen as a table or rectangular surface.
- 7:2 East: literally, “rising of the sun.” The east was considered the source of light and the place of paradise (Gn 2:8). Seal: whatever was marked by the impression of one’s signet ring belonged to that person and was under his protection.
- 7:4–9 One hundred and forty-four thousand: the square of twelve (the number of Israel’s tribes) multiplied by a thousand, symbolic of the new Israel (cf. Rev 14:1–5; Gal 6:16; Jas 1:1) that embraces people from every nation, race, people, and tongue (Rev 7:9).
- 7:5–8 Judah is placed first because of Christ; cf. “the Lion of the tribe of Judah” (Rev 5:5). Dan is omitted because of a later tradition that the antichrist would arise from it.
- 7:9 White robes…palm branches: symbols of joy and victory; see note on Rev 3:5.
- 7:10 Salvation comes from: literally, “(let) salvation (be ascribed) to.” A similar hymn of praise is found at the fall of the dragon (Rev 12:10) and of Babylon (Rev 19:1).
- 7:14 Time of great distress: fierce persecution by the Romans; cf. Introduction.
- 7:17 Life-giving water: literally, “the water of life,” God’s grace, which flows from Christ; cf. Rev 21:6; 22:1, 17; Jn 4:10, 14.
