12 А ето свещениците на левитите, които възлязоха със Зоровавела Салатииловия син и с Исуса: Сараия, Еремия, Ездра,

2 Амария, Малух, Хатус,

3 Сехания, Реум, Меримот,

4 Идо, Ганатон, Авия,

5 Миамин, Маадия, Велга,

6 Семаия, Иоярив, Едаия,

7 Салу, Амок, Хелкия и Едаия. Тия бяха началниците на свещениците и на братята им в дните на Исуса.

8 А Левитите: Исус, Вануй, Кадмиил, Серевия, Юда и Матания, който, заедно с братята си, бе над пеенето.

9 А Ваквукия и Уний, братята им, бяха срещу тях в стражите.

10 И Исус Роди Иоакима, а Иоаким роди Елиасива, а Елиасив роди Иодая,

22 В дните на Елиасива, Иодая, Иоанана и Ядуа левитите бяха записани за началници на бащини домове; също и свещениците през царуването на парсиеца Дарий.

23 Левийците, които бяха началници на бащини домове, бяха записани в Книгата на летописите, дори до дните на Иоанана Елиасивовия син.

24 А началниците на левитите бяха: Асавия, Серевия и Исус Кадмииловият син, с братята им срещу тях, назначени да хвалят и песнословят според заповедта на Божия човек Давида, ответно едни срещу други*.

25 Матания, Ваквукия, Авдия, Месулам, Талмон и Акув бяха вратари, и пазеха стражата на влагалищата при портите.

26 Тия бяха в дните на Иоакима син на Исуса, син на Иоседека, и в дните на областния управител Неемия, и на свещеникът Ездра книжникът.

27 И при посвещаването на ерусалимската стена потърсиха левитите по всичките им места, за да ги доведат в Ерусалим да празнуват посвещението си с веселие, със славословия и песни, с кимвали, псалми и арфи.

28 И тъй, дружните певци се събраха, както от ерусалимската околност, така и от нетофатските села.

31 Тогава изкачих Юдовите началници на стената, и определих две големи отделения хвалители; едното отиваше в шествие надясно върху стената към портата на бунището;

32 и подир тях вървяха Осаия, и половината от Юдовите първенци

33 и Азария, Ездра, Меулам,

34 Юда, Вениамин, Семаия и Еремия,

35 и някои от синовете на свещениците с тръби: Захария син на Ионатана, син на Семаия, син на Матания, син на Михея, син на Закхура, син на Асафа,

36 и братята му: Семаия, Азареил Милалай, Гилалай, Маай, Натанаил, Юда и Ананий, с музикалните инструменти на Божия човек Давида; и книжника Ездра им беше на чело;

37 и при портата на извора те се изкачиха първо пред себе си по стъпалата на Давидовия град, гдето стената се възвишава над Давидовата къща, дори до портата на водата към изток.

38 А другото отделение хвалители вървеше в противоположна посока, и аз подир тях, тоже и половината от людете, по стената, край кулата на пещите и по широката стена,

39 и над Ефремовата порта, и над старата порта, и над рибната порта, и край кулата Ананеил, и край кулата Мея, до овчата порта, докле застанаха в портата на стражата.

40 Така двете отделения хвалители застанаха в Божия дом, и аз, и половината от видните мъже с мене,

41 и свещениците Елиаким. Маасия, Миниамин, Михей, Елиоинай, Захария и Анания, с тръби,

42 както и Маасия, Семаия, Елеазар, Озий, Иоанан, Малхия, Елам и Езер. И певците запяха със силен глас, с Езраия за водител.

43 И в същия ден принесоха големи жертви и се развеселиха, защото Бог ги развесели премного; още жените и децата се развеселиха; тъй че увеселението на Ерусалим се разчу надалеч.

44 Тоже в същия ден се определиха човеци над стаите за влагалищата, за приносите, за първите плодове, и за десетъците, за да събират в тях от полетата на градовете дяловете узаконени за свещениците и левитите; защото Юда се радваше поради свещениците и левитите, които служеха.

45 Защото те и певците и вратарите пазеха заръчаното от Бога си, и заръчаното за очищението, според заповедта на Давида и сина му Соломона.

46 Защото отдавна, в дните на Давида и на Асафа, имаше главни певци и пеения за хвала и благодарение Богу.

47 И в дните на Зоровавела и в дните на Неемия, целият Израил даваха определените за всеки ден дялове на певците и на вратарите;

48 те посвещаваха даровете си на левитите, а левитите посвещаваха на Аароновите потомци.

The Priests and Levites(A)

12 Now these are the (B)priests and the Levites who came up with (C)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua: (D)Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra, 2 Amariah, [a]Malluch, Hattush, 3 [b]Shechaniah, [c]Rehum, [d]Meremoth, 4 Iddo, [e]Ginnethoi, (E)Abijah, 5 [f]Mijamin, [g]Maadiah, Bilgah, 6 Shemaiah, Joiarib, Jedaiah, 7 [h]Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, and Jedaiah.

These were the heads of the priests and their brethren in the days of (F)Jeshua.

8 Moreover the Levites were Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah (G)who led the thanksgiving psalms, he and his brethren. 9 Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brethren, stood across from them in their duties.

10 Jeshua begot Joiakim, Joiakim begot Eliashib, Eliashib begot Joiada, 11 Joiada begot Jonathan, and Jonathan begot Jaddua.

12 Now in the days of Joiakim, the priests, the (H)heads of the fathers’ houses were: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah; 13 of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan; 14 of [i]Melichu, Jonathan; of [j]Shebaniah, Joseph; 15 of [k]Harim, Adna; of [l]Meraioth, Helkai; 16 of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam; 17 of Abijah, Zichri; the son of [m]Minjamin; of [n]Moadiah, Piltai; 18 of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan; 19 of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi; 20 of [o]Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber; 21 of Hilkiah, Hashabiah; and of Jedaiah, Nethanel.

22 During the reign of Darius the Persian, a record was also kept of the Levites and priests who had been (I)heads of their fathers’ houses in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua. 23 The sons of Levi, the heads of the fathers’ houses until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib, were written in the book of the (J)chronicles.

24 And the heads of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brothers across from them, to (K)praise and give thanks, (L)group[p] alternating with group, (M)according to the command of David the man of God. 25 Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers keeping the watch at the storerooms of the gates. 26 These lived in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of [q]Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah (N)the governor, and of Ezra the priest, (O)the scribe.

Nehemiah Dedicates the Wall

27 Now at (P)the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, (Q)both with thanksgivings and singing, with cymbals and stringed instruments and harps. 28 And the sons of the singers gathered together from the countryside around Jerusalem, from the (R)villages of the Netophathites, 29 from the house of Gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth; for the singers had built themselves villages all around Jerusalem. 30 Then the priests and Levites (S)purified themselves, and purified the people, the gates, and the wall.

31 So I brought the leaders of Judah up on the wall, and appointed two large thanksgiving choirs. (T)One went to the right hand on the wall (U)toward the Refuse Gate. 32 After them went Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah, 33 and Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, 34 Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, Jeremiah, 35 and some of the priests’ sons (V)with trumpets—Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph, 36 and his brethren, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with (W)the musical (X)instruments of David the man of God. And Ezra the scribe went before them. 37 (Y)By the Fountain Gate, in front of them, they went up (Z)the stairs of the (AA)City of David, on the stairway of the wall, beyond the house of David, as far as (AB)the Water Gate eastward.

38 (AC)The other thanksgiving choir went the opposite way, and I was behind them with half of the people on the wall, going past the (AD)Tower of the Ovens as far as (AE)the Broad Wall, 39 (AF)and above the Gate of Ephraim, above (AG)the Old Gate, above (AH)the Fish Gate, (AI)the Tower of Hananel, the Tower of [r]the Hundred, as far as (AJ)the Sheep Gate; and they stopped by (AK)the Gate of the Prison.

40 So the two thanksgiving choirs stood in the house of God, likewise I and the half of the rulers with me; 41 and the priests, Eliakim, Maaseiah, [s]Minjamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets; 42 also Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer. The singers [t]sang loudly with Jezrahiah the director.

43 Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and the children also rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard (AL)afar off.

Temple Responsibilities

44 (AM)And at the same time some were appointed over the rooms of the storehouse for the offerings, the firstfruits, and the (AN)tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the cities the portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and Levites who [u]ministered. 45 Both the singers and the gatekeepers kept the charge of their God and the charge of the purification, (AO)according to the command of David and Solomon his son. 46 For in the days of David (AP)and Asaph of old there were chiefs of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. 47 In the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah all Israel gave the portions for the singers and the gatekeepers, a portion for (AQ)each day. (AR)They also [v]consecrated holy things for the Levites, (AS)and the Levites consecrated them for the children of Aaron.

Priests and Levites

12 These are (A)the priests and the Levites who came up with (B)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and (C)Jeshua: (D)Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra, 2 Amariah, Malluch, Hattush, 3 Shecaniah, Rehum, Meremoth, 4 Iddo, Ginnethoi, Abijah, 5 Mijamin, Maadiah, Bilgah, 6 Shemaiah, Joiarib, Jedaiah, 7 Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, Jedaiah. These were the chiefs of the priests and of their brothers in the days of Jeshua.

12 (G)And in the days of Joiakim were priests, heads of fathers' houses: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah; 13 of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan; 14 of Malluchi, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph; 15 of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai; 16 of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam; 17 of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai; 18 of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan; 19 of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi; 20 of Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber; 21 of Hilkiah, Hashabiah; of Jedaiah, Nethanel.

22 In the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, the Levites were recorded as heads of fathers' houses; so too were the priests in the reign of Darius the Persian. 23 As for the sons of Levi, their heads of fathers' houses (H)were written in the Book of the Chronicles until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib. 24 And the chiefs of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and (I)Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brothers who stood opposite them, (J)to praise and to give thanks, (K)according to the commandment of David (L)the man of God, (M)watch by watch. 25 Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers standing guard at (N)the storehouses of the gates. 26 These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and in the days of (O)Nehemiah the governor and of (P)Ezra, the priest and scribe.

Dedication of the Wall

27 And at (Q)the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, with thanksgivings and with singing, (R)with cymbals, harps, and lyres. 28 And the sons of the singers gathered together from the district surrounding Jerusalem and from the villages of the Netophathites; 29 also from Beth-gilgal and from the region of Geba and Azmaveth, for the singers had built for themselves villages around Jerusalem. 30 And the priests and the Levites (S)purified themselves, and they purified the people and the gates and the wall.

31 Then I brought the leaders of Judah up onto the wall and appointed two great choirs that gave thanks. (T)One went to the south on the wall to (U)the Dung Gate. 32 And after them went Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah, 33 and Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, 34 Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, 35 and certain of the priests' sons (V)with trumpets: Zechariah the son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph; 36 and his relatives, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, (W)with the musical instruments of David (X)the man of God. And Ezra the scribe went before them. 37 At (Y)the Fountain Gate they went up straight before them by (Z)the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, to (AA)the Water Gate on the east.

38 (AB)The other choir of those who gave thanks went to the north, and I followed them with half of the people, on the wall, above (AC)the Tower of the Ovens, to (AD)the Broad Wall, 39 and above (AE)the Gate of Ephraim, and by (AF)the Gate of Yeshanah,[a] and by (AG)the Fish Gate and (AH)the Tower of Hananel and (AI)the Tower of the Hundred, to (AJ)the Sheep Gate; and they came to a halt at (AK)the Gate of the Guard. 40 So both choirs of those who gave thanks stood in the house of God, and I and half of the officials with me; 41 and the priests Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, (AL)with trumpets; 42 and Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang with Jezrahiah as their leader. 43 And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children also rejoiced. And the joy of Jerusalem was heard far away.

Service at the Temple

44 (AM)On that day men were appointed over the storerooms, the contributions, the firstfruits, and the tithes, to gather into them the portions required by the Law for the priests and for the Levites according to the fields of the towns, for Judah rejoiced over the priests and the Levites who ministered. 45 And they performed the service of their God and the service of purification, as did the singers and the gatekeepers, (AN)according to the command of David and his son Solomon. 46 For long ago in the days of David and (AO)Asaph there were directors of the singers, and there were songs[b] of praise and thanksgiving to God. 47 And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah gave the (AP)daily portions for the singers and the gatekeepers; (AQ)and they set apart that which was for the Levites; (AR)and the Levites set apart that which was for the sons of Aaron.
