Каин и Авель
4 Адам познал Еву, свою жену, и она забеременела и родила Каина («приобретение»)[a]. Она сказала: «С помощью Вечного я приобрела человека». 2 Потом она родила его брата Авеля.
Авель пас стада, а Каин обрабатывал землю. 3 Через некоторое время Каин принёс в дар Вечному плоды земли, 4 а Авель пожертвовал лучшие части[b] первородных своего стада. Авель и его дар были угодны Вечному, 5 но Каин и его дар не были угодны Ему. Каин разгневался, и лицо его потемнело от злости.
6 Тогда Вечный сказал Каину:
– Почему ты сердишься? Почему твоё лицо потемнело? 7 Если ты будешь поступать правильно, неужели ты не будешь принят? Но если ты поступаешь неправильно, то у твоих дверей притаился грех: он желает овладеть тобой, но ты должен властвовать над ним.
8 Каин сказал своему брату Авелю:
– Пойдём в поле.
Когда они были в поле, Каин накинулся на своего брата Авеля и убил его.
9 Тогда Вечный сказал Каину:
– Где твой брат Авель?
– Не знаю, – ответил тот. – Разве я сторож моему брату?
10 Вечный сказал:
– Что ты наделал? Кровь твоего брата взывает ко Мне из земли. 11 Теперь ты проклят, изгнан с земли, которая впитала кровь твоего брата, пролитую твоей рукой. 12 Когда ты будешь трудиться на земле, она не станет больше плодоносить для тебя. Ты будешь на земле бесприютным скитальцем.
13 Каин сказал Вечному:
– Моё наказание тяжелее, чем я могу вынести. 14 Ныне Ты гонишь меня с лица земли, и я буду скрыт от Твоего присутствия: я буду на земле бесприютным скитальцем, и первый же встречный убьёт меня.
15 Но Вечный сказал ему:
– Нет, если кто убьёт Каина, тот примет за это семикратное возмездие.
И Вечный сделал Каину метку, чтобы никто, встретившись с ним, не убил его.
16 Каин ушёл от Вечного и жил в земле Нод («скитание»), к востоку от Эдема.
Потомки Каина
17 Каин познал свою жену, и она забеременела и родила Еноха. В то время Каин строил город и назвал его по имени своего сына Еноха. 18 У Еноха родился Ирад, у Ирада родился Мехиаил, у Мехиаила родился Метушаил, и у Метушаила родился Ламех.
19 Ламех взял себе в жёны двух женщин: одну звали Ада, другую Цилла. 20 Ада родила Иавала: он стал праотцем тех, кто живёт в шатрах и разводит скот. 21 Его брата звали Иувал: он стал праотцем всех, кто играет на арфе и свирели. 22 У Циллы тоже был сын, Тувал-Каин, который ковал все виды орудий из бронзы и железа[c]. Сестрой Тувал-Каина была Наама.
23 Ламех сказал своим жёнам:
– Ада и Цилла, послушайте меня,
жёны Ламеха, внимайте моим словам.
Я убил мужчину за то, что он ранил меня,
юношу – за то, что он ударил меня.
24 Если за Каина отомстится в семь раз,
то за Ламеха в семьдесят семь раз.
Сиф и Енос
25 Адам вновь познал жену свою, и она родила сына и назвала его Сиф («даровал»), говоря: «Всевышний даровал мне другое дитя вместо Авеля, которого убил Каин».
26 У Сифа тоже был сын, и он назвал его Енос. В то время люди начали призывать имя Вечного.

4 Conoció Adán a su mujer Eva, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: Por voluntad de Jehová he adquirido[a] varón. 2 Después dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y Abel fue pastor de ovejas, y Caín fue labrador de la tierra. 3 Y aconteció andando el tiempo, que Caín trajo del fruto de la tierra una ofrenda a Jehová. 4 Y Abel trajo también de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, de lo más gordo de ellas. Y miró Jehová con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda;(A) 5 pero no miró con agrado a Caín y a la ofrenda suya. Y se ensañó Caín en gran manera, y decayó su semblante. 6 Entonces Jehová dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué te has ensañado, y por qué ha decaído tu semblante? 7 Si bien hicieres, ¿no serás enaltecido? y si no hicieres bien, el pecado está a la puerta; con todo esto, a ti será su deseo, y tú te enseñorearás de él.[b]
8 Y dijo Caín a su hermano Abel: Salgamos al campo. Y aconteció que estando ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel, y lo mató.(B) 9 Y Jehová dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está Abel tu hermano? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso guarda de mi hermano? 10 Y él le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra. 11 Ahora, pues, maldito seas tú de la tierra, que abrió su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano. 12 Cuando labres la tierra, no te volverá a dar su fuerza; errante y extranjero serás en la tierra. 13 Y dijo Caín a Jehová: Grande es mi castigo para ser soportado. 14 He aquí me echas hoy de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé, y seré errante y extranjero en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me hallare, me matará. 15 Y le respondió Jehová: Ciertamente cualquiera que matare a Caín, siete veces será castigado. Entonces Jehová puso señal en Caín, para que no lo matase cualquiera que le hallara.
16 Salió, pues, Caín de delante de Jehová, y habitó en tierra de Nod,[c] al oriente de Edén. 17 Y conoció Caín a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad, y llamó el nombre de la ciudad del nombre de su hijo, Enoc. 18 Y a Enoc le nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mehujael, y Mehujael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec. 19 Y Lamec tomó para sí dos mujeres; el nombre de la una fue Ada, y el nombre de la otra, Zila. 20 Y Ada dio a luz a Jabal, el cual fue padre de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganados. 21 Y el nombre de su hermano fue Jubal, el cual fue padre de todos los que tocan arpa y flauta. 22 Y Zila también dio a luz a Tubal-caín, artífice de toda obra de bronce y de hierro; y la hermana de Tubal-caín fue Naama.
23 Y dijo Lamec a sus mujeres:
Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz;
Mujeres de Lamec, escuchad mi dicho:
Que un varón mataré por mi herida,
Y un joven por mi golpe.
24 Si siete veces será vengado Caín,
Lamec en verdad setenta veces siete lo será.
25 Y conoció de nuevo Adán a su mujer, la cual dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Set:[d] Porque Dios (dijo ella) me ha sustituido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, a quien mató Caín. 26 Y a Set también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós. Entonces los hombres comenzaron a invocar el nombre de Jehová.

4 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.

Cain Murders Abel(A)
4 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore [a]Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother [b]Abel. Now (B)Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And [c]in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit (C)of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of (D)the firstborn of his flock and of (E)their fat. And the Lord (F)respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is [d]for you, but you should rule over it.”
8 Now Cain [e]talked with Abel his [f]brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and (G)killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, (H)“I do not know. Am I (I)my brother’s keeper?”
10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood (J)cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now (K)you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”
13 And Cain said to the Lord, “My [g]punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; (L)I shall be (M)hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that (N)anyone who finds me will kill me.”
15 And the Lord said to him, [h]“Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him (O)sevenfold.” And the Lord set a (P)mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
The Family of Cain
16 Then Cain (Q)went out from the (R)presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of [i]Nod on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, (S)and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
19 Then Lamech took for himself (T)two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20 And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and [j]flute. 22 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
23 Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!
For I have [k]killed a man for wounding me,
Even a young man [l]for hurting me.
24 (U)If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
A New Son
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and (V)named him [m]Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, (W)to him also a son was born; and he named him [n]Enosh. Then men began (X)to call on the name of the Lord.
