Всевышний обвиняет Исраил
6 Послушайте, что говорит Вечный:
– Поднимись, изложи своё дело перед горами;
пусть слышат холмы то, что ты говоришь.
2 Слушайте, горы, тяжбу Вечного,
и вы, прочные основания земли!
У Вечного тяжба с Его народом,
Он будет состязаться с Исраилом.
3 Народ Мой, что Я сделал тебе?
Чем измучил тебя? Ответь Мне.
4 Я вывел тебя из Египта,
выкупил из края неволи.
Я послал Мусу, Харуна и Марьям,
чтобы вести тебя.
5 Вспомни, народ Мой,
что задумал Валак, царь Моава,
и что ответил ему Валаам, сын Беора,[a]
и что случилось по пути из Шиттима в Гилгал[b];
вспомни, чтобы постичь праведные дела Вечного.
6 С чем мне предстать перед Вечным,
с чем мне склониться перед Богом небесным?
Предстать ли со всесожжениями,
с телятами годовалыми?
7 Можно ли Вечному угодить тысячами баранов,
нескончаемыми реками масла?
Отдам ли первенца в жертву за грех мой,
плод тела – за грех моей души?
8 О человек, Вечный сказал тебе, что есть добро
и чего Он требует от тебя:
действовать справедливо, любить милосердие
и смиренно жить перед твоим Богом.
Вина и наказание Исраила
9 Голос Вечного взывает к городу
(и мудрость – бояться Его имени):
– Внимайте жезлу и Тому,
Кто его поставил.
10 Забуду ли, о дом злодеев, злодейством нажитое богатство
и меру уменьшенную, которая Мне ненавистна?
11 Потерплю ли неправильные весы
и обманные гири?
12 Богачи твои кровожадны,
твои обитатели лгут,
обман у них на устах.
13 За это Я начал губить тебя,
разорять дотла за твои грехи.
14 Будешь есть, но не наешься;
желудок твой останется пустым.
Будешь копить, но не сбережёшь,
а то, что сбережёшь, Я предам мечу.
15 Будешь сеять, а жать не будешь;
будешь давить оливки, но не будешь умащаться маслом;
будешь топтать виноград, но вина пить не будешь.
16 Ты соблюдал злые уставы царя Омри
и сохранил все нечестивые обычаи дома царя Ахава;[c]
всем их традициям следовал.
За это предам тебя разорению,
а твоих обитателей – позору;
ты будешь сносить глумление народов[d].

The Lord’s Case Against Israel
6 Listen to what the Lord says:
“Stand up, plead my case before the mountains;(A)
let the hills hear what you have to say.
2 “Hear,(B) you mountains, the Lord’s accusation;(C)
listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth.
For the Lord has a case(D) against his people;
he is lodging a charge(E) against Israel.
3 “My people, what have I done to you?
How have I burdened(F) you?(G) Answer me.
4 I brought you up out of Egypt(H)
and redeemed you from the land of slavery.(I)
I sent Moses(J) to lead you,
also Aaron(K) and Miriam.(L)
5 My people, remember
what Balak(M) king of Moab plotted
and what Balaam son of Beor answered.
Remember your journey from Shittim(N) to Gilgal,(O)
that you may know the righteous acts(P) of the Lord.”
6 With what shall I come before(Q) the Lord
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?(R)
7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,(S)
with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?(T)
Shall I offer my firstborn(U) for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?(V)
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly(W) and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a](X) with your God.(Y)
Israel’s Guilt and Punishment
9 Listen! The Lord is calling to the city—
and to fear your name is wisdom—
“Heed the rod(Z) and the One who appointed it.[b]
10 Am I still to forget your ill-gotten treasures, you wicked house,
and the short ephah,[c] which is accursed?(AA)
11 Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales,(AB)
with a bag of false weights?(AC)
12 Your rich people are violent;(AD)
your inhabitants are liars(AE)
and their tongues speak deceitfully.(AF)
13 Therefore, I have begun to destroy(AG) you,
to ruin[d] you because of your sins.
14 You will eat but not be satisfied;(AH)
your stomach will still be empty.[e]
You will store up but save nothing,(AI)
because what you save[f] I will give to the sword.
15 You will plant but not harvest;(AJ)
you will press olives but not use the oil,
you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.(AK)
16 You have observed the statutes of Omri(AL)
and all the practices of Ahab’s(AM) house;
you have followed their traditions.(AN)
Therefore I will give you over to ruin(AO)
and your people to derision;
you will bear the scorn(AP) of the nations.[g]”
